Welcome to our guide for Ember’s Side Quest Achievements! In this article, we will be discussing the four missions you can complete at any time before the final boss fight. These side quests are called “What Happened to the Dragon?”, “A Lost Soul”, “The Cult that Lies Beneath”, and “A Blade of Legend”. Just a quick reminder, make sure to finish these side quests before restoring the White Shrine in Radiance, as using the Blade of Armageddon during the final boss fight will end the game and remove all progress. So, don’t forget to hard save before using the Blade of Armageddon for the Deathbringer Achievement. Let’s dive into these side quests and conquer them all!
What Happened to the Dragon?
If you miss the dying postman on the road, that’s ok, you don’t have to activate the post man quest to find her house. Here is her location below.
Once you enter the house you will see a book behind her near the fireplace, pick up this book and read it. This will begin the quest. Talk to Hamish and say you will help him find Moros.
The cave will be marked on your map under Quests. or use this map below.
Once you get to the cave…. before you go inside, hard save the game. You don’t have to fight the boss (Bovid) to get the Achievement. You just have to walk in and see the body of Moros. If you don’t want to fight Bovid, return to the save outside the cave once the Achievement pops, otherwise you cannot leave until Bovid is slain. The boss here is tough in the early game, so it may be better to come back if your’e not level 15 or so…. up to you.
The Cult That Lies Beneath
Once the main storyline involving the Thieves guild is finished it is important to remember where the trap door is as it will not show up on the side quest. I spent quite some time trying to find it again because I did not know I would need to return here and the side quest won’t show you it’s location.
If you are struggling to rediscover the trapdoor, here is the location (from an earlier main quest save). ( Green Main Quest Marker. )
Anyway, before getting back here you will have to start the quest by finding a citizen called Anna Benclain. This is her location in the City of Light. (Red Your Location Marker)
Anna will send you on a quick mission to slay some fools. Return to her and after some dialogue, she will send you to Marla. Marla lives in the City of Light, not too far away. Go to her and she will start the mission into the sewers to find the Cultists.
This is where you need to return to the trapdoor, head down beneath the city. Instead of following the arrows painted about, go in the opposite direction. If you encounter a huge, scary spider you’re on the right path. After this fight you will inevitably encounter Alicia. She gives you a key and after unlocking the gate, go on a slaying spree. Bag and tag all the cultists and return to Alicia and the Achievement is yours.
A Lost Soul
Head towards the “Your Location” on the map below.
Here you will encounter a dying man on a wooden bridge. His name is Liam. Liam needs your help and you can either choose to help him or let him die.
The benefit of helping him, is that he will come to your aid when you fight the boss of this side quest. If you let him die, he will come back as a hateful ghost. So really the choice is a no-brainer, but its up to you.
He will ask for a herb, Spikey Muskweed, so it’s a fetch quest. Once you return heal him and then cross the bridge.
Continue down the path, until you encounter Albert. Albert will ask you to rescue Gloria. Continue to the marker on your map.
Eventually you will fight the Soul Collector. Liam will help if you saved him, or Liam will attack you if you let him die.
Once the Soul Collector is slain, you can choose to save Albert with the Phylactery or not. I think if you save him you get more xp, and if you don’t the potion is worth lots a coin to sell. Up to you.
A Blade of Legend
The quest can only be started if you have retrieved your heart from the Necromancer, this will happen in the main storyline. Once you have completed this mission, make your way to the City of Light and find a dude named Horatio. Here is his location.
If you talk to him before you have recovered your heart, he will tell you to come back when your more reputable. Once you have your heart, he will ask you to court his daughter, Elena. Select “Guess I could talk to her.”
Upstairs Elena will ask you to find her true love Horace, which will begin the Quest “Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places.” This side quest is quite lengthy, you will need to visit a few map locations in your travels. I’m not going to go into this too much, just follow the markers. Eventually you will find Horace fighting goblins. Help him, then tell him to return to Elena. Return to Horatio.
The talking choices do not effect the next side quest, which is the one you want for the Achievement and the epic weapon. After the quest ends, talk to Horatio again until he tells you the swords location and gives you a key, starting “A Blade of Legend” quest.
The cave location is in the Southern Forest. There is a door, unlock it with Horace’s key and follow the tunnel until you enter a room with colorful barriers, four Effigies and four colored candles. You need to hard save here. If you don’t save and you get the order of the candles wrong, the guardian will most likely squad wipe your party. The guardian is super powerful.
Here is a picture of the order I placed the candles in to open the barriers. I’m not sure if this is random or this is a fixed sequence. Let me know how you do!
Once the barriers are down, you will encounter the boss. He is fairly tough, so you might want to hard save again. Once the Illuminated One is defeated, take the Rusted Light’s Awakening and return to Horatio. Horatio will restore the blade. Achievement done.
