If you’ve ever had trouble playing Call of Duty® on multiple monitors with different resolutions and refresh rates, you’re not alone. Many gamers have run into issues where the game is running on the wrong monitor or the wrong display settings are being used. But don’t worry, there’s a simple fix that will not only solve these problems, but also prevent the annoying BIOS and motherboard logo from showing on the wrong monitor. All you need is a program called Display Fusion, and you’ll be able to play in borderless fullscreen with no issues. So keep reading and get ready to level up your gaming experience!
THE FIX – WILL WORK 90% OF THE TIME 100% OF THE TIME
This guide assumes your display settings for refresh rate/resolution/main monitor is set correctly for all monitors in Windows Display settings.
If you haven’t, please right click on Desktop > Display settings and familiarise yourself with this page cause if you have multiple monitors and this page is new to you I don’t know what neuron cooking bacteria you’ve been injecting into your smooth brain every morning but you need to stop.
Now, make sure you have your preferred monitor set to max res and refresh rate and is indeed set to main display. If main preferred monitor is set to main display but has a number other than 1 this guide will also fix that.
This will ALSO fix the annoying MB Logo and BIOS showing on wrong monitor during startup AND the main monitor showing as any number other than 1 in the display settings bug a lot people seem to have even though again, this is a very obvious solution
Note that you can swap the monitor for current selected Window with Windows Key+Shift+ Left/Right Arrow keys but lets forget that for now as this fix below is a more permanent solution and that hotkey doesn’t work for multiple rows of monitors from I could tell
- Disconnect all monitors from display ports except the one you have set as main display.
- Restart PC after you disconnect monitors – This step is important as solution sometimes doesn’t work if you don’t do this
- Make sure you Restart with all monitors detached EXCEPT for the main one, as this is the fix for the BIOS and MB Logo showing on wrong monitor AND number 1 not showing on the main monitor in display settings. This should save for all subsequent restarts (but if problem comes back just repeat this step). Depending on setup just use the monitor you want for BIOS and MB Logo, as it clearly doesn’t have to be main
- Launch the game again with monitors still detached
- COD will only show on the main monitor now, obviously cause nothing else is attached
- Go settings, change Display Mode to Exclusive Fullscreen and it will allow you to increase main monitors max resolution and refresh rate, which you need to do now
- Then MAKE SURE you hit APPLY once you’ve done that. (E.G. it will now show 240hz/440p res/Exclusive Fullscreen)
- Now change Display Mode to Borderless Fullscreen Screen and it will lock to your main monitors refresh rate and resolution (E.G. 240hz/1440p/Borderless Fullscreen).
- MAKE SURE TO Hit APPLY SETTINGS AGAIN
- Finally Attach your other monitors.
- Make sure in display settings your other monitors aren’t sitting at 60hz when they’re attached again.
- Also, don’t close the game at any point when you’re attaching the monitors. Once they have attached and you confirmed the correct res/refresh/position for your other displays you can close the game. Some games might reset the settings when you launch again and you hadn’t closed with monitors attached
If all steps followed this is what should happen:
- COD or whatever other game will use main display whenever you launch
- Borderless Windowed Mode will work properly and you’ll be able to use the main displays max Resolution and Refresh Rate
- BIOS and MB Logo will only show on main display (or whatever monitor you choose)
- Main Display will show number 1 in Windows Display Settings
- You’ll get endless amounts of DM’s from E-Girls cause of you got your multiple monitors to work properly.
– STILL DOESN’T WORK OR
– YOU’RE PLAYING AN EARLY ACCESS TITLE OR
– YOUR GAME DOESN’T HAVE BORDERLESS FULLSCREEN
DOWNLOAD DISPLAYFUSION ON STEAM OR SOME VATNIK PIRATE FORUM AND FOLLOW THESE STEPS
Great program in general for multiple displays cause the amount of options it has that can be binded to a hotkey is extremely useful especially when you have multiple rows of monitors
https://store.steampowered.com/app/227260/DisplayFusion/
- Install then Open – might just open in system tray so just double click on the icon there and open it
- Functions Menu – should be second option on the left menu
- In the filter on the top right of the window (essentially search) type in PREVENT
- It should filter the options to PREVENT WINDOW DEACTIVATION (keeps game windows focused)
- Double click on that option and make a keybind that’s kind of complicated so you don’t accidentally press it (mine is Shift + Ctrl + Alt + Z)
- Hit Ok on the little keybind window and then hit APPLY on the DisplayFusion window and wait a bit for it to save (4-5 secs and program might automatically close). If it doesn’t, just hit exit after settings applied – The program should still be running in system tray.
- Then go Into a game and turn to Full Screen Exclusive (older games don’t have the option so just go to Fullscreen instead of windowed). Change all your necessary settings and save
- During play or in the menu, hit the key combination you made for that focus option.
- It should make a sound to show it’s enabled and you’ll be in Borderless Windowed mode. Test it by alt tabbing and you should instantly be able to move to next screen without issue. [/loist]
NOTE THIS DOESN’T WORK FOR ALL TITLES, BUT MOST OF THEM SHOULD WORK.
