Attention all Dinkum fans! The long-awaited Flaming Winter update is here with exciting new additions for you to explore. Get ready for lava fields, display cases, double wide gates, and much more. Let’s dive in and discover all the amazing features this update has to offer.
Hot, Hot, Hot!
Accessed from the deep mine elevator, only this time you use emerald shards to access the hot, hot, hot lava level. The level has new treasure rooms and new loot! As the mine is full of lava, there are also strategically placed water jugs you can melee to free from their cages and then toss into the lava to form into safe, passable, rock. Feel free to take some of these water jugs home for decoration, you know, as an office water cooler.
But lava is hardly the only danger here. The first of the new enemies is a flaming lava jelly that spawns from the lava fountains spread across the map.
The second, known as Yobbolins come in two forms, one wearing a Bush Devil Hat with a ranged cannon ball wand with a berkonium gemstone that can stun and light you on fire, and another shaman style wearing a Pincher Plant Hat that can create an area effect to heal other Yobbolins that also damages you.
Oh did I forget to mention? Peaceful wish DOES NOT work in the Hot, Hot, Hot mine level. The Yobbolins and lava jellies will still come for you. With their cute kid sounds, but deadly, deadly attacks.
There are also new treasure rooms, which come in various layouts ranging from a long line to the single chest room to a bush like layout of three chests in three separate but connected rooms, to huge complexes with six or more chests in interconnected rooms. They are infested with Yobbolins and lava jellies, so you’ll need to bring top tier weapons and top tier foods like prime roast, bottle brew and lotta burger. Don’t worry about buffs other than defense or offensive, and cool as there’s no need to chop wood or break stone. Cool foods will reduce how long you stay on fire which is imperative on a lava map where many enemies can also light you on fire. Treasure rooms come in various different layouts but only one opening each, you’ll want to look for this as it’s the gateway to finding the new treasure rooms:
Because the treasure rooms are now extensive labyrinths, you should mark every intersection and the opening so you don’t get trapped inside and then run out of energy in late. It can be very easy to get lost inside some of the larger treasure rooms. Here’s an example of an intricate large set of interconnected treasure rooms:
Berkonium is found in its gemstone form as well. You can either break it with a melee weapon, or utilize the gemstone grinder located next to the mine elevator. If you break the Berkonium, you’ll either get no or a single Berkonium, where if you toss it into the gemstone grinder, you’ll get way more. Same for gemstones, only that gemstones now also give you four shards plus a chance at a perfect gemstone depending on what type of gem you grinded.
Fun Fact: James apparently used his kid’s voice to voice the Yobbolins.
Gliders are absolutely vital as they let you avoid combat and let you quickly fly over the lava. It’s not viable to have to try to find water jugs to create safe paths across the map. Also, if you thought the Undergrove was intense, you’re in for a shock as the Hot, Hot, Hot mine is a whole different level of combat, so bring your glider and just fly over as much combat as you can to avoid getting mobbed.
The yobbolins and lava jellies will swarm you in the treasure rooms in large numbers. Outside the rooms they attack in small numbers, but in the rooms their numbers can easily get out of control. Their capacity to stun you also makes it difficult to get out. It’s best to only land to open doors with keys and to grab the treasure and then get out. Top tier foods, alpha weapons and blastoads to stun the enemies are all great. The torch and bat zapper do not stun these enemies.
A great trick is to drop a blastoad right next to the red chest which creates a stun field around the chest giving you time to grab the chest and the loot in relative peace. The Yobbolins have rare cosmetic and weapon drops too, so you’ll need to take a great many of these down if you want their loot. So again, blastoads are imperative as you can stun large groups and then get to work unaliving them. Blastoads are the MVP of the hot, hot, hot mine, so track down Ted Selly and get as many of these as you can.
The tele-caller does not work in the mine as it’s too deep. So you can’t teleport your way out of danger.
You can find some respite by landing on the iron lanterns to catch your breathe or find an isolated island in the mines surrounded by lava to use the new sitting emote to rapidly heal.
Some of the cosmetic dropped items may be elusive to acquire. You can encourage the game to give you them by camping enemy spawn points. Flame Jellies spawn from the erupting lava fountains. You’ll need to trigger them by entering their area, but once you do and stay in that area, they’ll send flame jellies at a very quick intervals. If you can find an area with 3-4 lava fountains in a small area, you can easily farm the flame jellies for their drops including their elusive hat. Take this setup for example:
Cold, Cold, Cold!
Then proceed to break the snowmen with a weapon to get snowballs which you can then craft into various furniture and tiles once you find and then smash an ice block, revealing the ice crafting table. Be sure to save some snowballs as a certain nomadic hunter can make you one of the best weapons in the game with those.
There’s new ice furniture and tiles to create the winter wonderlands of your dreams that do not melt in the sun.
Penguins also make an appearance on snow days. Search for them on the small islands in the South West quadrant of your map.
New Equipment, Tools, Weapons, Cosmetics & More!
Clover sells a new furniture item you can dress up and show off all your fancy or not fancy clothing. The human shaped statues you can redeem your anniversary tickets for work the same way, but have a slightly different look. Clover only sells one mannequin per day at the cost of 12,000 dinks.
Theodore has two types of on sale for 12,000 Dink and 8,000 Dink each that lets you place items on display. One for carryables like gemstones and one for everything else. One of each type sold per day.
Ted Selly can craft you a fancy new weapon to put your enemies on ice. The Ice Hammer requires a heft amount of snow, perfect gemstones and a load of iron, but will help you put the freeze on those flame jellies and yobbolins!
Jimmy has a hilarious but dumb new item. Definitely going to let you find this out yourself what it does, but I’ll give you a hint that it takes the classic kids’ game of hide and seek to a whole new level. Buy it and enjoy the shenanigans for a mere 20,000 permit points.
The snowman hat is a rare cosmetic drop you can get from destroying snowmen built from two large snowballs.
New craftables include bridge types, glass fencing, double wide gates, and tool/weapon displays. Learn these via blueprints, rewards, or buying the recipe from Franklyn as it comes on sale in his shop.
Many of the new items are found in the Hot, Hot, Hot mine level. Some are drops from slain enemies and some are from red chests.
A new glider that resembles a flaming bird, like a phoenix. Same range as the leaf, galaxy, bat, and pirate gliders.
A cellphone like device that can create a temporary teleporter location for 10,000 dinks per use, can teleport you to any of the normal teleporter towers, and teleport you to the temporary teleporter location. It is rechargeable at the charging station.
A backpack that holds an additional 24 storage slots. It can be selected, loaded and unloaded via the hotbar and then dragging items into the swag pack. You can also temporarily dye it another color by moving a paint into the pack. And no, I know what you’re thinking, equipping more than one swag pack does not grant you an additional 24 storage slots per pack. Each swag pack shares the same additional 24 storage slots.
Similar to the Alpha Spear, only that it now the earth eruptions are volcanic and burn the target in addition to the regular damage.
A hybrid axe and pickaxe letting you combine two tools into one.
Think worm bin, but that it creates keys not fertilizer. Place it and forget it, but check back in a few days and a new key will be ready for harvesting. Har-Vac capable.
The Pincher plant joins the many of the other native Dinkum life as a concrete work of art. Decorate your town with the fearsome pincher plant, ready to strike!
This tool allows you to move a tree anywhere without having to cut it down. You can even plant it on pathing. Great for people who want to move trees to mow and create uniform grass, or people who planted trees like jacarandas in places they now want to redevelop, which are too expensive to cut down. This tool opens all sorts of new decorating ideas.
Cut and polished versions of gemstones can also be acquired by being lucky when tossing in a gem into the gemstone grinder, can also be found in the red chests. Perfect gemstones come in three forms, aquamarine, emerald, and ruby.
A new gothic style lamp can be found in the treasure rooms, usually in the corners. Interact and then pick up them for your own use.
Strewn across the hot mine, they can be carried out of the hot mine and brought up for decorations. Be careful as you can break them by throwing or damaging them, releasing their water.
is a new path that is found under clusters of water jugs and in the treasure rooms. You don’t have to move the jugs first to start mining the black marble.
An alpha bat like weapon that fires what appears to be three cannon balls that light the target on fire and can stun. Does slightly less damage than the alpha bat. Drops from a slain Yobbolin.
A cosmetic item drop from a slain Yobbolin, it recreates the pincher plant from the Undergrove but on your head. No poison ranged attack included.
A cosmetic item drop from a slain Yobbolin, it recreates the bush devil from the surface and the first mine level but on your head. No fireballs included.
A cosmetic item drop from a slain flame jelly, it recreates the a flame jelly on your head.
Flame Jellies are items left from slaying flame jelly enemies. This item is used in certain crafting for a new path. Toss it into a furnace to get the new path.
It’s not all hot lava and ice cold conditions with the new update. There are three new critters, two new bugs, and one new fish. They’re spread out across various seasons and several are quite fast so be prepared to chase them down.
Game Mechanic Changes
You can still break gems normally, but the drop rate of shards is much lower than if you use the gem grinder.
The Undergrove now is foggy.
The tractor now harvests and collects rice at the same time.
Several of Ted Selly craftable items that used to use gem shards now require perfect gemstones.
Critter bubbles are larger and more noticeable.
Take a divergent ramp back to the table saw to get a convergent ramp.
Ruby shards are now a gacha item, giving people more ways to get shards if they dislike going into the mines.
There’s a new food buff, represented by an snowflake. Find it on the watermelon Popsicle and ice cream:
Worm Farms can be harvested by Har-Vac now.
You no longer need to sit on a chair to heal faster as the sitting emote does the same thing, This helps on inventory space.
A big change is now the silver watch found on the Island Reef no longer slows time anywhere but the main island. There is a slight graphic change to indicate when the silver watch is engaged to note that time is slowed down. When using the gold watch, the double chevrons face right.
