Whether you’re a scavenger or in need of general advice for quests, this guide has got you covered. Get ready to conquer the Trenches like a pro!
Mech Trenches: Introduction
In this guide I will be showing Quest locations and giving a brief overview of this small but dense map and informing you lot of my discoveries, tips and general advice, hope this helps you survive and that you enjoy the read!
I will include a video of my most recent run (source of a lot of these gifs) at the end of the guide to give a better idea if you need blanks filling.
Spawns: Which to pick?
Firstly, lets start with spawn locations of which (at the time of writing) there are 3.
These are as follows:
Trench
The Trench spawn is fairly straightforward, you will spawn in, you guessed it, an open section of the trench with a pair of downed mechs’ in it (no screenshot of this one as I’ve not had a reason to spawn there) it branches off to the left and right but taking either will more than likely lead you to the interior of the bunkers which will be mentioned below.
It is however, a great extract to use should you spawn at either of the other locations as the exit zone is often clear and there is no timer!
Elevator
Elevator is my go to spawn, as it is relatively safe AND has a direct route to the Mech Hangar for questing! this one is a straight line forward which leads you to two options and usually some enemies dead ahead.
In the below image there are two arrows,
Red! (up the staircase in front) will lead you to the medical bay area, ill be honest this place I’ve not explored much beyond for looting purposes so I’m not certain on where exactly the questing objective for this place is, BUT its all enclosed so route around indoors and your sure to find the hacked door!, under the quests section I explain how to use the hacking interface so don’t worry if you’ve not done it yet.
BE WARNED, activating the doors on this map does make noise and will alert patrols if they are close enough, so get ready to dip and hide once the door is opened!
Blue! The blue arrow (ground level to the right) will put you in a long trench line, often with patrolling drones/exo’s and some infantry, lots of fighting here if you want it but I prefer the sneaky option, to the right you will see some loot containers, large items and greenish crates, to reach the Mech Hangar you can climb these crates to bypass opening the loud ass doors which I recommend if you want to live.
To the left of the light at the end of this screenshot is an opening to the actual quest room through some maintenance pipework, be warned the quest room will be occupied and the Europans will shoot regardless of if you’re doing their quest or not! there is also an opening to an “airlock” of sorts between the outside trench and the hangar which is accessible from a drop-down directly behind you!, some loot here but avoid opening the big doors at. all. costs.
Tunnel
Ah Tunnel, not my usual spawn admittedly but it is a useful one, head up the stairs shown in the gif above and head straight, you’ll find yourself in a mirror trench to the one on the Elevator spawns opposite side!, head left to loop around to that trench, straight to access the inner bunkers and medbay area (mind the enemies/gunfight) or right to reach the Trench extract.
Not much more needs explaining with this one
Quests! (The ones I’ve got round too anyway)
For quite a dense map questing is surprisingly awkward where you might think it’d be easy, but don’t fret, I am here to give you the knowledge I have gained so far!
Lets start with the main reason you’ll be coming here quest wise.
The Mech
Yes the Gundam loving Europans and Gundam Sabotaging Euruskans love to hate this thing in equal measure and as such it is the maps set piece as far as questing goes, which is handy for me, the author of this guide as I can summarise it all neatly here for you.
The Big Man himself
Pretty much all quests relating to the Mech Directly are in the same spot which while handy, is also often a death trap so take heed!
In front of the Mech will be a little wooden trolley, the kind you find at the local DIY store carting barrels or something, to deposit quest items you need to be stood on this thing first which means jumping on it, in the open, with 0 cover. I’m sure you see the issue with this.
This place has never not been crawling with hostiles so its a matter of timing and effective use of sprinting to plant and get out of dodge!
Now for the not so obvious questing elements of the Mech stuff.
Mech Parts
These things, are actually easy to find! I’m sure you’re relieved to hear, the quickest one to grab is at the elevator spawn, directly in front of you will be a destroyed Mech, there are parts loose on the ground behind it, keep in mind you will need a large slot free so don’t bring a camera, light or IED if doing this quest. (especially the last one it arms when you drop it)
All other specifics are in the quest description, if you need explosives you can find them often in the shantytown on the cliff side of Ashen Mesa or in the previously mentioned climb area to reach the Mech hangar as loose pickups.
Server Room Quest and my usual Mech Quest Escape
That’s right these two conveniently roll into one for us, Neato!
So, you’ve deposited something for the Mech or are looking for the server room, good news you are going the same way for both, on the opposite side of the Mech hangar to the entrance described earlier in this guide, you will see a staircase leading up the wall, take it! this will lead you to the control area of the hangar which is the route to the server room and hacking quest.
Speaking of…
Hacking Quest
Above shows the server room, the door to the left leads to the first trench area (if you spawn Elevator) which is a convenient escape to avoid the often large and very pissed off Europan you’ve just ran away from DO. NOT. FORGET. opening that door will make noise! so be ready to run as there can and often will be enemies on the other side, it exits onto a walkway which can be followed into the bunker in the middle or the railings jumped off (use your own judgement, don’t be dumb and fall to your death)
The Panel highlighted at the end of the gif is the terminal you must hack, approach it, get real close then press E when prompted and you will be greeted with this.
Your symbols will be different, all you have to do is match the symbols in order, note the orientation does not matter, you just need to identify shape/pattern and match it in sequence within the displayed time limit, once you’ve succeeded you will be ready to extract with the Data as per the quest givers instructions, I don’t know what happens if you fail the hack but it cant be good, my guess is hunter killers.
Be smart not dead, don’t panic and ensure enemies are not on top of you before starting this, you dont want to feel rushed and accidentally fail.
Medbay Stuff
As previously mentioned I’ve not actually accepted any of these quests yet, but I know the general area they are situated, so, reach this zone and sniff around scav’s but be warned, this place is occupied with enemies and they do patrol into the quest zones so take your time and listen for clues such as movement or radios.
Its obvious you are in the right place with this one, plenty of bloodpacks, body bags and surgery tables there is a lower area but I’ve never been down there myself as I’ve not needed too but id wager the code lock door is down there somewhere, hack it as with above.
This zone is in the area shown up the stairs from Elevator spawn, which is the quickest way in.
General Advice
So this section is my general advice for this map and the game in general lets start with something obvious.
Stealth
Stealth is key to surviving in this game, and on a map as condensed as Mech Trenches even more so as there is almost always an enemy in earshot, take things slow, pay attention and mark enemies you see so they show on the compass.
Bring Suppressors, they arent that expensive you cheap hack! but in all seriousness despite the gun still often being deafening the suppressors help a ton with keeping a low profile, and if you need to shoot (Or want too >:3 ) they will often limit the aggro to the pack of enemies you are engaging.
Pay Attention!
Pay Attention, yeah the music rocks and yapping is the downfall of many a group but, its worth it to always keep an ear out through it all as often you will hear a threat before you see it which can help you avoid getting shot to death or something? sounds pretty good right? use those ears!
Dont be afraid, you keep what you kill
Due to the compact nature of this map and areas of others never be afraid to kill, its you or them pal and bonus! they have tasty loot for you to steal should you win, so if you absolutely cannot avoid combat be sure you have decent ammo and an AK bare minimum, and pump those a’hole’s full of lead.
Hunter Killers
This last one a lot of people don’t understand, so here’s how it works, certain quest items, high value loot and overall loot value/rarity affect the chance of a Hunter killer spawning and chasing you down, if this happens you either grabbed something important for a quest, (even if you don’t have it active yet and no, you cant use them if pre-grabbed when you accept a quest you have to go back in and find a new one so make note of these)
Do not panic, you can outrun and even kill these folks, just be smart about it, use cover, blast em with a shotty at point blank range and stun lock them etc, and loot them their stuff is expensive. But keep in mind, each one killed brings more and stronger hunter killers straight in after you, so play it safe when questing and get out if you need to survive.
That’s more or less it for the guide, the rest should be self explanatory or learned through experience, that said I’m not exactly perfect at this map but the video at the end shows an example run, the one which I took most of these gifs from so enjoy and I hope this guide helps!
Run Example
Thanks for Reading and/or Watching and thanks to the Dev’s for giving us their vision, cant wait to see how the game develops!
Comment tips and tricks of your own if you’d like and I just might edit them into the guide! (with credits given of course) this map is my favourite and if its expanded I will probably update this guide.
Let me know if I should do guides for the other maps or not!
