This article is a guide to earning all the achievements in the indie horror game, You Will Die Here Tonight. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game, this guide will help you unlock all the achievements and conquer this terrifying game.
Introduction
Around half of the achievements are related to different ways to die, the rest are story-based and triggering the endings. It’s not too difficult, especially later runs where you’re already familiar and have more powerful items.
Story-related
Unlocked after Ashley meets Katherine in the Secret Lab.
Housekeeping: Lead a team member to final extraction.
Unlocked shortly after the previous one, when Katherine gets mauled by maid zombies in the dark.
Illumination: Empower a team member with technology.
Unlocked after fixing the generator and restoring power to the lab.
Midnight in the Garden: Inspire a team member to explore nature.
Unlocked by getting the Garden Key after the 2nd fight with the spider boss.
Death-related
Bloody Heck: Exsanguinated.
Get killed by a zombie. Pretty much story-based, you will most likely unlock at the same time as Housekeeping, if not earlier.
Bad Prognosis: Plagued.
Get killed by infection. When a zombie bit you, you’ll get a 5-minute timer with a biohazard icon on the top left of your screen, under your name and health. Let the timer reach zero. Don’t let a zombie or trap kill you, and avoid using the IV bag in the Secret Lab as it heals you and removes the infection.
Falling For You: Impaled.
Get killed by spikes. In a room called Dungeon Pit, the room has spikes in the middle, and stairs on a pillar leading up. Go up and you’ll be in a room with a shotgun. The cabinet with the dripping drink is actually a clue on how to survive. Every 3 drops, you can safely leave. If you move when it’s not, the floor opens and you’ll fall below.
Let the Good Times Roll: Crushed.
Get crushed by a boulder. On the way the room to the Torture Chamber, there will be this long hallway with a boulder that blocks the way to the Alchemy Room. After entering the Torture Chamber and going back this long hallway, the boulder will roll. Let it crush you, probably unavoidable or a very near miss if you play as the slower characters like Eric, Javier, or Cpt. Vincent.
Case Closed: Entombed.
Get killed by an iron maiden. In the Torture Chamber, unlock the padlock (you’ll get the code from the alchemy room puzzle, in case you want it anyway its 4596) and the iron maidens will spin around. Keep an eye on which one has the valve, and pick the other 2 that doesn’t so it kills you.
Flattering Portrait: Pulverized.
Get crushed by a wall. In the Art Gallery, the room with the paintings and a child’s dress, if you take the brooch from the dress before solving the puzzle, where you have to push the buttons under several paintings in order, the wall will crush you. You cannot put the brooch back if you picked it up, guaranteeing your death.
Heavy Metal: Slain.
Get slain by a knight. After solving the shield puzzle (look at the chess board: king, rook, pawn, queen) on the chained knight statue on top of the stairs in the Main Hall, you can take the shield but the knight will come to life and you must fight it. Allow it to kill you to unlock this achievement, but not before dealing as much damage as you can! This knight won’t respawn on later runs, so if you survived him you must play the game near its end where you’d have to fight 3 knights at once. Luckily, only 1 knight moves at a time, so if one stops moving one of the other 2 is advancing and attacking you.
Butterfly Effect: Arrested.
Get killed by a lightning strike. In the Ballroom, you’d find this dress with the butterfly brooch suspiciously surrounded by marks of lightning strikes. If you grab it and run away, you’ll get struck by lightning and die. To prevent it, put the Wooden Butterfly Brooch you find on the Art Gallery Balcony on the dress before leaving.
Creature Comfort: Devoured.
Get eaten by a spider. You’ll fight the massive spider 2 times in the 3rd floor, in the Master Bedroom and shortly after in the Attic. Chances are you’ll unlock this naturally in the Attic, it’s a lengthy fight with 2 phases, which is basically the spider back to its full health and you must fight it again.
K Coins
To earn this achievement, you’ll have to use a K Coin when you’re back in the character selection screen after everyone dies, and it will revive your whole team, all 6 of them. You will be given 1 K Coin at the start as Katherine wakes up, but you won’t get it this way again.
Another one is in Alchemy Storage, but you’ll need to get the Valve first to enter the room.
Another is found in the East Stairwell, on the round table with the candles.
The last one is on this run is on the Labyrinth, Western side. Kinda hard to explain since there’s no map, but in the picture below, the gate with the lit torches is where you enter, and the gateway with no torch leads to a short forest path with the coin inside a box. This won’t reappear as well.
When you start the next run, the remaining 2 coins will be in the same places. If you try to do the other endings (more explained below) at one point you’ll play as Spc. Mike Kelly, and will go down the basement below the cherub fountain after giving it an arrow. In the Control Room, in front of a computer you’ll have to interact with is a K Coin.
Endings
Global Conflict: Depart Breckenridge Hall with unfavorable results.
Pretty much the default ending. Defeat the 3 knights, get the helicopter key, and fly it.
New Meta: Guide a team member towards new horizons.
This one is unlocked when you started the true ending. After returning to ARIES HQ as Katherine, check your computer. KRKN will give a new mission with 2 important points:
– As Cpt. Vincent, observe the chess board, which can only be done after restoring generator power. This will distract him in HQ.
– As Spc. Mike, follow through KRKN’s mission. It involves destroying a statue in the Trophy Room, taking and fixing the broken arrow, using it on the cherub fountain on the Atrium, go down the basement, and deactivate the Firewall. This allows it to give you additional objectives. You’ll get a submachine gun. Finish the run or return to HQ.
Back in HQ, talk to KRKN. It will explain that your new mission is to escape the HQ. It will create a distraction where now you can take Javier’s brass knuckles. Then, enter the Captain’s room and interact with the chessboard to distract him, and take the armory key. In the armory, you’ll have to redo the training with Eric, but this time thanks to the brass knuckles you’ll KO him. Enter the armory and take the grenade launcher, starting a timer. Go back to Captain’s room, and enter the hole in the wall to unlock the achievement.
Truth and Consequences: Introduce a team member to your open door policy.
Finish the true ending. After entering the hole, the game is pretty much linear. There’s a 10-minute timer but you have infinite ammo and infinite lives, not much to worry about. Fight some enemies, avoid some death lasers, and a finally a boss as you’d expect.
