“Welcome to our guide for UFO 50: Mini & Max! This article will help you complete quests, find missing upgrades, and understand the purpose of certain items. We’ve skipped any unnecessary steps to keep things concise and spoiler-free. If you notice anything we’ve missed, let us know in the comments. Main Room Full Map
Required for Gold/Cherry
At the beginning of the game, shrink where Max shrinks, then go in the house.
Grab the teacup, grow to normal size, and shrink in the bottom-left corner of the room, in front of the left flower pot. Climb up the platforms to reach this house. Give him the tea to gain the Magic Shrinking Potion, to now shrink even more.
There’s a few ways to reach the doorknob; the easiest is to:
1. Shrink and grab any block, then grow to normal size
2. In the bottom right corner of the room, place the block below you, then shrink on top of it.
You should shrink and be placed on top of the doorknob. To enter the doorknob, you can either;
1. Enter the town in this corner by the doorknob. Run to the far left side of town, enter the last house, and talk to the left NPC to pay 50 shinies to lower the doorknob bridge.
2. If you have the Glove upgrade to pick up enemies, grab a floating green germ from the microscopic world. Grow to small size, and use the germ as a platform to enter the doorknob.
Talk to Mittens and pay him 500 shinies. Gearface will attack, but you can’t beat him yet. Grow to normal size.
Shrink on the right power outlet. Shrink on the blue pixel above the bottom outlet. Talk to the NPC to the left and watch the machine break. Pick up the gear and grow to normal size.
Shrink on the shelf above the piggy bank. Drop down into it and enter the coinslot (like any door). Give the gear to the spider NPC to learn the code to blow up Gearface.
NOTE: Before returning to Gearface, make sure you’ve obtained Magic Potion 2 to shrink extra small, either Gravity Charm or Glove to let you fall down a long distance without dying, and some way to ascend vertically, ideally Protein 1 or 2.
Return to the doorknob throne room. Wait for Gearface to shoot out his face, and shrink on his torso. Enter his body and proceed through. Interact with the console at the end to defeat him.
After you’ve defeated Gearface, re-enter the doorknob. Shrink in the far-right corner of the room and talk to Pongo. Complete the conversation, then return to normal size.
Shrink on the portait, then use the mold blocks to create springs to platform up to the clock.
Enter the hole, then platform up via the wires on the left side of the inside of the clock. Talk to the spider at the top-right and give them 1000 shinies to trigger the Cherry ending.
Equipment Upgrade Locations
Upgrades in the microscopic world are often in these gray blocks with a diamond in the center. Pick them up and break them to get the upgrade inside. (Note if one doesn’t spawn in an expected location, you already have the equipment piece fully upgraded, noted by (1/1) or (2/2).)
There’s a very large number of locations for each of these upgrades. Only one or two locations will be noted to keep this short, as that’s all you need to get fully upgraded anyway.
1. In the Dust Bunny Warren (between the right flowerpot and the bookshelf), shrink to the tile to the right of the shopkeeper, then jump left.
2. On the portrait, shrink on the left side of his shirt, then run right.
1. First one is given to you by William. (See beginning of the guide.)
2. On the portrait, right side of the shirt, before the black portion.
1. In the Dust Bunny Warren (between the right flowerpot and the bookshelf), shrink on the left tile this bunny is standing on, then run right.
1. In the bottom left corner of the bookshelf (jump up from the carpet via the screw platform), shrink in this spot and go right.
2. Shrink on this tile on the portrait (one right of the buttons) and go left.
1. Shrink on the shelf below the portrait, right before his shirt turns black.
2. Shrink on the top right of the bookshelf. Go right and spring off of the red sewing thing and land on the peeled wallpaper. Shrink on the right tile of the platform.
1. Shrink on the carpet below the right flowerpot. Two tiles to the right of the lowest platform, shrink and go right.
1. Shrink on the top-left of the bookshelf. Drop down through the shelf and land on the red game box. Shrink one tile right of the edge.
2. Shrink between the two flowerpots. Go right and move the blocks out of the way of the doorway. Go in, and go 2 tiles right. Shrink and the boots are visible to the right.
1. First, shrink between the right flower pot and the bookcase, and enter the Dust Bunny Warren. Talk to the leftmost dustbunny to buy dynamite from him for 2 shinies. (Or get anything that’ll blow up some tiles).
Shrink up on the top-left corner of the bookshelf. Climb up the books. (I recommend getting a Protein and using up+jump to jump high enough. Or just climb with some blocks.)
Shrink on this dust block. Use the dynamite to blow up the blocks blocking the phermones.
1. Shrink on the portrait, and immediately shrink again on the shelf, then go right.
2. Shrink in the far right corner of the room, then run left to the 4 lint block. Pick up the leftmost lint block (right of the Hexan village), then shrink on that spot. Go to the far left side of the screen.
1. Shrink on the bottom left of the bookshelf, on the ground. Go left and jump up on the shelf via the screw. Go back to the angel statue, and shrink to the left of the plaque. (Note that the left side of the plaque is only half of a tile, so go slightly more left than you might think, then shrink). Go right for the coffee.
1. Shrink on the top left bookshelf. Drop down onto the board games, shrink on the 4 die on the left side.
2. Shrink on the portrait. Shrink where the shiny is located. Go left for the spin bauble.
One-of item, requires killing the Cockroach. You must first return the egg to the termite queen, see the quest in the first Quest section.
After returning the termite queen’s egg, shrink in the bottom right corner of the big room. Go left and talk to the termite in front of the small door to have them open the door. Go inside and kill the giant Cockroach and it’ll drop the Chitin Armor.
1. Shrink in front of the door. In the small world, shrink 1 tile left of the door. Whistle is to the left.
One-of item.
1. Go to the Dust Bunny Warren (between right flowerpot and the bookshelf) and buy a glass jar from the shopkeeper to the left. Pick up the jar, then shrink on the right tile the shopkeeper is standing on. In the micro-world, hold the jar above your head and go to the right to catch some pink slime.
2. Shrink on the bookshelf in front of the piggybank. Shrink on this tile, on the right side of gold-looking coin in front of the piggy bank. Go left into the house and give the Mol Dok the pink slime, and he’ll give his meat.
Equipment Upgrade Locations (cont)
One-of item.
1. Grab one of these shiny blue blocks. Most straightforward location is on this blue beetle on the right side of the right flowerpot. Shrink on its back and grab any of the blocks.
2. Go to Beldor, the Algaean town in the right flowerpot, located here. Talk to the blacksmith in the first door and give him the blue block to be given the dog armor.
One-of item.
1. Grab an earthquake block. Easiest location is here, one tile in front of the door. Also recommend going left and picking up the Whistle upgrade if you haven’t already.
2. Find and pick up Max. If you have the Whistle, double-tap up to call him to you. Otherwise, he’s probably on the starting house, or the bottom left corner of the bookshelf.
NOTE: If you’ve paid Mittens 500 shinies but haven’t defeated Gearface, Max is still trapped in the throne room. You will need to defeat Gearface before you can do this.
2. Get on top of the angel statue on the wings, on the bottom of the bookshelf. Easiest is to drop down from above. Throw the earthquake tile and the angel statue should talk to you. Hold Max above your head and she’ll spawn the Sacred Wings in her arms.
Quests – Queen Termite, Algaeans, Spiders, Lamptopia
Note these main locations, as they’re referenced often:
1. Shrink in the bottom right corner of the room. On the right power outlet, shrink on the tile on the bottom outlet with a blue pixel on it. Talk to the engineer and they’ll break the power outlet. Grow to normal size, then go in the new doorway hole in the outlet.
2. Go to the far left side of the room. Talk to the termite NPC in front of the queen. Exit via the outlet on the left.
3. Go left, and talk to the termite in front of the door in front of the left flowerpot, and they’ll open the door. Go inside, climb to the very top and retrieve the egg. Return it to the queen and the termites will now be your friends.
1. (Recommended). Go to the Dust Bunny Warren (between the right flowerpot and the bookshelf) and buy some dynamite from the shopkeeper.
2. Shrink on the left flowerpot. Shrink in this spot, right below where you spawn in. Go to the right, and while the waterbear is spitting out bubbles, jump on its back to expose its weakspot. Throw the dynamite at its exposed weakspot to kill it. (If you miss, you’ll need to either get another dynamite, or kill it with normal blocks).
3. Enter the West Algaean town. Talk to the mayor to receive 50 shinies.
On the far right side of the West Algaean town, there’s an Algaean trying to construct a building with slime blocks. He requires 3 to complete the building. Here’s 3 easy-ish locations.
1. On the RIGHT flowerpot, to the right of the East Algaean town, right of the crack.
2. On the LEFT flowerpot, on the vine above where you kill the waterbear.
3. On the LEFT flowerpot, on the far left side, on the tile to the right of the hermit’s house.
4. Bring each to the Algaean on the far right side of the West Algaean town, and he’ll give 10 shinies for each. After the 3rd, leave and re-enter the area and he’ll build the building. Go inside to get another 10 shinies from him.
A package failed to be delieverd to the East Algaean queen.
1. Shrink in front of the portrait. Go to the right side of the shelf and grab one of the mold blocks.
2. Shrink in front of the left power outlet. Throw the mold block beneath you to create a spring to bounce you up to the power outlet. Jump to the top and shrink on the dead fly. Grab the box with a crown on it.
3. Go to the East Algaean city on the right flowerpot. Go in the main building, climb to the top and give the package to the queen. Go back down to the middle floor and talk to the NPC on the far left, and he’ll award you 50 shinies.
1. Buy a jug from the Dust Bunny Warren (between right flowerpot and bookcase).
2. Shrink in front of the portrait. On the right side, hold the jug above your head to get a drop of water. (NOTE: You need to have at least Backpack 1 to store the jug in your backpack, otherwise you’re too tall to get on top of the shelf.)
3. On the right flowerpot, to the right of the East Algaean city, drop down onto this platform. Shrink on the right side that has the green pixel. (NOTE: You’ll need the Special Circlet to drop through the platform). Run right and talk to the NPC while holding the water to give it to them.
4. Go to East Algaean city. Past the 3rd door of the main building (with the pot sign above the door), talk to the next soldier and he’ll give you 50 shinies for saving him.
1. In East Algaean city, go to the far right side inside the main building. Talk to the algaean and take the love letter behind them.
2. Go to West Algaea. Talk to the NPC standing on the roof above the shop, on the far right side of town, while holding the love letter. Take the new love letter.
3. Return to East Algaea and give the original algaean the reply love letter, and they’ll award you 30 shinies.
1. Go to the Dust Bunny Warren (between right flowerpot and bookshelf) and buy a jug.
2. Shrink on top of the left flowerpot. Climb to the very top-center, and enter the hole in the wallpaper.
3. Hold the jug above your head and catch some honey, then talk to the bee to get 25 shinies.
NOTE: Need Glove upgrade to complete this.
1. On the left flowerpot, ride on one of the purple bugs to go up the wall.
2. Shrink on one of the tiles in front of the spider. Pick up one of the flying green germs, grow back to small size, and talk to the spider to give it to them for 30 shinies.
1. Shrink on the top right corner of the bookshelf. Pick up this thread I’m standing on (it might not look like it, but it’s a block).
2. On the right flowerpot, climb up to the top right and jump over to the hole in the wallpaper. Give the thread to the spider for 15 shinies.
(NOTE: This quest by itself doesn’t reward anything, but is a prerequisite for another quest.)
Recommended to have Protein II to jump higher.
1. Shrink in front of the lamp. Jump up to the very top, and shrink on the far right side. Go to the far right, and talk to the last NPC standing next to a flashing light. You’ll grow back to normal size and a fly will be approaching you. Jump on the fly to ride it to the hanging light. (Or use any other method to get on top of the hanging light).
2. Jump up to the hanging light. Run all the way to the wall, then shrink. Climb up the platforming challenge (use up+jump to use your Protein high jumps). Talk to the light at the very top. (You’ll have some sparkles hover over you for a moment).
3. Return to Lamptopia, and you’ll immediately become a Lamptopian citizen.
1. Become a Lamptopian citizen (see previous quest).
2. Jump on top of the lamp’s light switch and shrink. Talk to the NPC inside the house while holding the scroll to turn off the light.
3. Go to the bookshelf and shrink in front of the game boxes, on the left side. Get up on top of the green box (in front of the yellow WAR box) and go in the door on the left side. Reach the far right side of the warzone and pick up the nuke at the end. (Don’t break it or it’ll explode and you’ll need to get another one).
4. Shrink in front of the lamp, and talk to the Din on the shelf to the right of the lamp while holding the nuke, and you’ll be awarded 80 shinies. (If he’s not there, you need to turn the lamp off. See step 2).
Quests (cont) – Mol Dok, Dust Bunnies
Between right flowerpot and bookshelf.
1. Go to East Algaean town, on the right flowerpot. In the main building, buy the 10-shiny tablet from the shopkeeper on the far right.
2. Go to the Mol Dok town, on the top right bookshelf. Place the tablet on the throne on the top-right, and a voice should talk to you.
3. Shrink in front of the portrait and climb up to the clock. Use the mold blocks to create springs to reach the top of the portrait.
4. Inside the clock, go left, climb up the wire platforms, then go right to walk on the motherboard. Shrink on the far right side that has the green pixel jutting out. Climb up-right and a cutscene should play, dropping 50 shinies for you.
NOTE: There’s multiple blue eye locations. Not sure if you can return more than one.
1. Shrink here on the shelf (NOT on the pencil) and pick up the blue eye next to you.
2. In the Mol Dok down, give it to the Mol Dok in the leftmost house for an upgrade inside of a block.
1. Left of the Mol Dok town, shrink on this tile and go to the far left. Pick one of the fruit off the tree, then break it to get the seed inside.
2. Bring the seed to the farmer on the far right side of the Mol Dok town. Gives you a blue egg upgrade (increased throw strength) or 5 shinies if you’re already maxed.
1. Mol Dok on the rightmost house in Mol Dok town asks for a red cave egg. In the micro-world, there’s occasionally caves that have tougher enemies in them. The orange octopus enemies drop blocks that turn into red eggs. Bring the Mol Dok one to get an upgrade or 5 shinies. (Don’t know which upgrade, don’t really care.)
NOTE: Glove needed to pick up enemy.
1. Shrink on top-left bookshelf. Walk 2 tiles left, and shrink on this tile. Go to the right and pick up the half-face.
2. Jump up onto the book above and shrink on the red pixel. Talk to the left-half-face while holding the right-half, and like 10 shinies will drop.
1. Shrink on the bookshelf right of the piggybank. The bookworm will ask you to kill all the silverfish inside the books. Go in the door, kill all the silverfish, then talk to the bookworm for 20 shinies. Straightforward.
1. Stand on the sick Dust Bunny on the right side of the dust bunny warren. Kill all the lice on him, then grow to normal size for him to thank you. Talk to the top-middle dust bunny for 20 shinies.
2. The top-left dust bunny will ask you to bring them special blue dust to make new friends. Top right bookshelf, on top of the WAR game box on the right side, is some blue dust. Bring to him, and he’ll create a new dust bunny. Leave and re-enter, talk to the new dust bunny to get 15 shinies.
Quests (cont) – Hexans, Mice, Doorknob Town
Bottom right corner of room by four lint balls.
1. Go to the evil Hexan town on the right of the four lint balls. Climb up to the top-most house, go inside and pick up the artifact.
2. Go to the Hexan Town (blue, left side of the 4 lint balls) and return it to the blue Hexan in front of a locked door. Go inside for 10 shinies + an upgrade.
1. The 2nd house on the ground floor has an NPC asking you to return any Hexan babies you find for 15 shinies each. There are two in town (one straight above, one to the top-right).
Note: There are far too many Hexan babies to cover in this guide. You can fill up the whole room and still find more. They’re typically on the carpet.
Note: If you return two Hexan babies in quick succession, before the 15 shinies from the first one finish counting, you’ll lose out on any shinies that weren’t yet counted. Wait for the first 15 to be tallied up, then trade in the 2nd baby.
NOTE: Glove needed to pick up enemy
In the Hexan town, the 3rd house on ground level will has a yellow Hexan with a captive virus. They ask to see a different variety of virus, which you can get from a cave.
Nearest cave is here, five tiles to the right. Talk to Hexan while holding the virus to get 15 shinies.
1. In the far-right house of Lamptopia, the blue NPC will give you a scroll to give to other races.
2. Go to the Hexan Town and give it to the 2nd green Hexan. Reload the area and he’ll become a Lamptopian and give you 15 shinies.
NOTE: This is technically skippable if you only want the reward. See next quest.
1. Shrink in front of the portrait. Run right and pick up a mold block.
2. Shrink in front of the left power outlet. Run right and go in the first door on the carpet. Talk to the rat while holding the mushroom spore/mold block/whatever it is, and a barrel of a drink will spawn.
NOTE: Need to complete the above Cooking Rat quest, although this quest is also skippable if you only want the reward. See step 3.
1. Bring the strong drink from the rat to the toy caboose, on the bottom right bookshelf. Enter through the window at the top.
2. Inside, get to the bottom right. Beware of your drink being destroyed. Give the Sheriff Spider the drink, and he’ll tell you where a secret stash is located.
3. Shrink on the bookshelf in front of the board games, on the right side. Shrink under the left side of the ! while on the shelf. Climb up past the guards to get the stash of 70 shinies.
NOTE: Need either Gravity Charm (no fall damage) or Glove (use a floating enemy to reset your fall distance as you descend).
1. Shrink in front of the lamp. Run right and clear the dust blocks out of the doorway before the portrait. Go inside and run left.
2. Fall down the gap on the far left side. The mouse will say his brain is being hijacked. Shrink on his head, and you’ll be confronted by a plasmage. Either kill him, or just pick him up and then grow. The mouse will give 20 shinies.
1. In the starting house (where you got the teacup), pick up the cat food.
2. Get on the doorknob. If you stand on the catfood while shrinking in front of the door, you’ll get on top of the doorknob with the cat food.
3. Go into doorknob town. Enter the 2nd doorway and give the NPC to the right the cat food for 15 shinies.
NOTE: Need Special Circlet to drop through platforms.
1. Go to the far-left side of Doorknob Town and go in the last house. Pick up the key.
2. Go back to the middle of town, and drop down into the passageway below the main building. Give the key to the guard for 10 shinies, or to the prisoner for him to escape. Find him back at the Hexan Town and he’ll give you 30 shinies.
“Quests” – Leads for shiny rewards
Shrink here on the portrait, below the buttons (not on the shelf). He’ll give 15 shinies.
On the game shelf, shrink under the right-half of the star of the tank. Mol Dak will give 20 shinies.
On the far left of the shelf, a Lamptopian says they’re throwing shinies over the edge. Either drop straight down, or climb up to the top-right leaf on the left flowerpot, then shrink to pick up 70 shinies on both of the leaf tiles.
Unresolved Quests – No known purpose
1. Climb up to the right side of the hanging lamp. Inside the door, a bed bug will tell you to leave them alone.
2. Shrink in the bottom left corner of the room to find a Red Blood Cell.
1. Straight down from the right edge of the hanging lamp is a peeled wallpaper tile. Shrink on the left tile.
2. There’s a broken Lamptopian next to a campfire. He says he doesn’t want to return to Lamptopia like this.
In between the train wheels at the bottom of the bookcase, shrink on this extended brown pixel. The Mol Doks inside speak of a supposed 5-eyed Mol Dok.
NOTE: Need Glove to catch the shiny
Shrink to microscopic in the farthest left corner of the room. Land on top of the running shiny to catch it.
You may come across a Mol Dok who asks for you to bring them something rare.
NOTE: You need to have completed the Termite Queen Egg quest to be friends with the termites. Also need Glove to pick up enemies.
1. Go into the door on the carpet in front of the left flowerpot. Pick up one of the soldier ants.
2. Shrink in front of the lamp. Go right and clear out the dust blocks blocking the doorway right before the portrait (if you haven’t already). Go inside.
3. Go right until you get to here. Shrink on this tile, on the top nail, one tile to the left of the right wall.
4. Go to the left. Feed the soldier ant to the pink amoeba. It will spit out a baby ant. Pick it up, and grow back to Small size.
5. Pick up this tile, between the big block and little block. Shrink on the floor, and give the baby ant to the Mol Dok.
6. The Mol Dok will tell you to go to the bottom of the bookshelf, between the angel and the toy train. Go in the doorway on the bottom of the shelf (might be hard to see) and a grasshopper will be inside. It says When the higher intelligence arrives, only play will still have value
