Character Creation (cont)
Here is some notable discovers I want to share: Melody kungfus depend on the maximum capacity of your MP. Higher MP higher DMG. Hid WEP kungfus require you to select an item to throw (can be your money). The better the item the higher the DMG. And if the item has some effect, like burn or freeze, your enemy will gain those effect as well.
First of all, MOR or morality point: the higher the MOR the more righteousness you are and vice versa, the lower the MOR the vilest you become. There are some kungfus required high MOR and, also, some required low MOR. This point also affects the outcomes of some events like recruiting new characters and learning new kungfus. Some characters like you more if you are a good man; and some likes you more when you are a naughty boy.
A lot of your actions thru out the game will either increase or decrease MOR. Additionally, there are some items, equipment, and traits that can affect MOR.
My advice is: begin with 5 MOR and avoid any encounters that increase or decrease MOR before you buy all contrabands and recruit your desirable characters
This will be quick. There are some kungfus that are characterized as an wine art which means that the damage of this kungfu will be affected by how drunk you become. Yup, very interesting. If you are a wuxia fan, you will notice there is a certain kungfus that exists. This means that while on battle you can drink wine (take up a turn) and then perform your wine art. The damage will increase as your intoxication level increase. However, there is a downside: the higher the intoxication level, the less accurate your kungfu is.
Very fair… not until you have a trait called “Universe in a sip”. This trait will grant you no miss from intoxication. Therefore, if you plan to build a drunken sage, make sure grab this trait a long your journey in jianghu. There is another trait: “High Tolerance” which can negate the effect of INTOX, but the downside is that the effect on your wine art DMG will also be negated.
Travel around the wuxia world, you will definitely gain lots of equipment, from weapons to armors to accessories. Their basic stats might seem good, but not good enough when you face more powerful enemies. Therefore, the game allows you to enhance your equipment when you progress to a certain point. I’ll dedicate a section for this later on since there is a lot of in-depth details I want to go over.
This point represents how much you progress with kungfu. You will gain 1 point of Core for every level of a kungfu until it reaches 300. What does this matter, you might ask? This will affect the level of kungfu when you create a new one. Yes, you can create a new kungfu. Before talking about this, let’s go back and talk about kungfu. What is kungfu? Kungfu is skill, for short. In Chinese mythology, there is a lot of different type of skill: internal, external, mind art, defense art, etc. If you want to know more about this, just look up Google or read some wuxia novels.
In this game, kungfu has level, appearing as star and each star represents a tier. Maximum tier has 10 star. The higher the tier the higher the requirement to learn that kungfu. Every tier requires at least 20 points of the kungfu stat to learn. For example, “It Rains Like Strings” has 8 stars melody kungfu which means that it is a tier 8 kungfu that requires 8 x 20 = 160 melody stat to learn.
Later on in the game, when you create a new kungfu, the tier level will be affected by your kungfu Core. Every 50-point will increase a tier. Therefore, 300-point (max Core) will allow you to make a tier 6 kungfu. You might want to ask: Why can’t a make a tier 10 kungfu due to the fact that there is an achievement for create a level 10 kungfu? Well, there is another mechanic called kungfu breakthrouh that allows you to improve your kungfu with traits. And this is how you make a tier 10 kungfu.
Traits
You only get to choose 3 traits at the beginning. Later on, you will gain/buy more as you venture the jianghu. Yes, you can buy traits, no kidding. Moreover, there is some trait that has shackles chain around it. This means that once you put it on, you can no longer replace it. So think carefully before you use them.
You can also receive some “name” when you roam around jianghu. Preciously, when you finish all the bounties for a city, you will receive a Jianghu nickname. This is also considered as trait. Moreover, some event thru out the game will also give you a nickname, too.
Additionally, there is a mechanism: traits can be couple as combo to give more benefits. This is going to be a big project to figure out all the trait combos. I’ll work on this as I finish the other part first.
Status Effect
If you look below the character portrait, you will see this:
It is very straightforward: when the number is green that means you have resistance toward that status, when the number is red that means you are under effect of that status.
- Poison will make your character lose HP with every action unless you standby or heal the status.
- Injury will lower the maximum capacity of MP and reduce your ATK and DEF
- Bleed will make your character lose HP but decreases as turn goes by. If your bleed is too high, you will spray blood and extinguish other character’s Burn effect. Yea, very funny.
- INTOX means intoxication level. The higher it is the higher the damage of Wine art attack becomes but your attack will be less accurate. More detail will be at Wine Art section.
Stealing
When you have access to Jiangdong area, go to JiaXing. There will be an event happening there regrading the Ghosthand, his mom, his jianghu brothers, and the imperial court. Choose to help. After the battle, pick the first option: bury his mother. This is very important. Progress until you are tasked to go back to Temple of Lord Wang. Make sure you talk with the Ghosthand TWICE. He will give you Supreme Theft.
First playthrough: Optional: pick the “I Go My Way Without Complain” trait when you pray at the first temple(last option). This trait will give you another item slot to “inherit” to your next playthrough. Progress until the end of the game (World Kungfu Competition in Shaolin Temple). Make sure you talk with the merchant who stands next to the stone sculpture. Pick Supreme Theft. Optional: Thru out the game try to collect book “Tales of the Mirror” as many as possible so that you can “inherit” this book later on.
Second playthrough: Character creation, origin selection: pick 2nd, 4th, 6th, or 8th origin. Randomize until you see and lock these 3 criteria:
- Six Fingers trait
- Stealing stat = 30 (60 with the above trait)
- Special stat = 40 (or around 38)
Then, randomize until your INT is 5 or less. Next, beat up the Beggar couple in Xiangyang city and then beat up the newly appear Beggar guy to get Black Cur’s Nutcracker. Learn and level this kungfu until you have 60 Special Stat.
Now you have the ability to steal item, what can you steal? Kungfus, trait scrolls, and stat boosters. Thru out the game, lots of enemy have items in their inventory. You just need to hold left-click on an enemy to open their status to check.
When you are stealing, there is a chance or failure (of course). Moreover, the more items the enemy has the lower the chance of success for you to steal. Therefore, you will have to increase the Stealing stat up via kungfus or books. The maximum is 999. You don’t have to max it out, around 200 will do the trick.
You can find Buglar Sutra at Temple of Lord Wang’s secret room. The kungfu gives 36 Stealing stat. You can steal the trait “The Way of Breaking into Chests” from the Persian Merchant in Tomb of the Wusun King. This trait will give you +100 Stealing stat and -3 MOR.
Additionally, there is a set of equipment that can boost the stealing process. The set will allow the wearer to steal while attacking an enemy. If you attack multiple enemies, you will steal only 1 item from the one that has an item(s). If multiple enemies have item(s), you still only steal 1 item but I don’t know who will get stolen.
- Tattered Oil-Paper Fan (30 Stealing stat) – can be found at JiaXing city grocery kid. Buy contraband (require MOR<=5)
- Satin Fox Fur Coat (10 Stealing stat) – can be found at Temple of Lord Wang’s secret room
- Tiger Cap (10 Stealing stat) – can be found at Lin’An city grocery kid Buy contraband (require MOR<=5)
So 60 (originally) + 36 (from the Buglar Sutra) + 100 (trait) +50 (equipment set) = 246 Stealing stat. You can technically steal anything from anyone without fail with this build.
Oh, did i tell you that you can COMBO steal? Yes, yes you can. Just enhance your weapon with Gobi stone (+0.2% combo) and have lots of traits that give you combo%. And voila, steal 3 times with the cost of 1 action. However, there is a small bug here: make sure that you left-click to close the comment immediately after each time of success(or failure), or you will only get 1 item out of 3-hit combo.
And that wraps up our share on The World of Kungfu: Dragon and Eagle: Basic Walkthrough Guide (to be continue-try to achieve 100% in the future).
