This guide is divided per-chapter, and comes in 2 parts: a set of big images to serve as general guide and text-based checklists to act as a supplementary for it. Includes information related to Companion Quests, Storyteller Notes and his craftable relics and details regarding the Secret Ending. Best used for repeat playthroughs when you have a general idea what to expect, but should work for a first-time playthrough as well. (if you don’t mind massive spoilers)
Introduction, and how to use the guide
Best used by creating a folder for yourself at the start of a playthrough, then putting in either a text file or 5 text files (1 per chapter) as well as saving copies of the Visual Guide images, then as you progress you remove things from the text files in notepad and from the images with your chosen image editor (or just one of those, whichever you find most convenient).
This guide is not extremely comprehensive, because the game is huge in content, however I made sure to include important information regarding these aspects:
1. Storyteller notes (usually marked as EN – Elven Notes)
2. Storyteller relics, and all the crafting components required for crafting them.
3. All the checks and details regarding the prerequisites for the Secret Ending, and when they appear (summarized in Chapter 5)
4. World Map areas, and the triggers for unlocking them (including the triggers for them in Drezen Events and road events)
5. Related to World Map areas, the triggers required to progress Companion Quests
6. Maps or descriptions for important loot and puzzles of certain dungeons, including an Enigma speedrun guide in Chapter 5 (included in the images)
What this guide doesn’t include:
1. Detailed information on Companion progression – especially important for characters like Wenduag, whose triggers are very complicated. I only mention the world map events required for unlocking the related areas. I recommend using the Neoseeker guide for those:

- Gwerm’s Mansion: (Camelia’s Story Area) in a room with Abrikandilus on the second floor, pick up a MAGIC ESSENCE.

- Houndheart Campsite: Shard of a Melted Ring in east side crate (STORYTELLER RELIC)
- Nightingale Grove: Has MAGIC ESSENCE in a random container.
- Conundrum Unsolved: After solving the puzzle, pick up ELVEN NOTES.
- Moondance Meadow: COLD IRON on a corpse.
- Chilly Creek: Sidequest area, unlocks minor sidequest later if you do it now.
- CAMP EVENT: (when entering 2nd Camp at River) Hellknight rescue encounter, accept the quest to unlock Reliable Redoubt.
- Reliable Redoubt: MAGIC ESSENCE in a random crate in camp area outside.
- Nameless Ruins: (Nenio Quest Area) Minor loot behind a puzzle (consult image for solution), Ring of Protection +2 if you succeed a Will save on a corpse (inside cave)
- ROAD EVENT: On the way to Leper’s Smile, there’s a Babau encounter/ambush. Search the area to find a note which unlocks “Inconspicuous Camp”.
- Leper’s Smile: Sosiel + Stand your ground on Book Event saves the most soldiers. 4 interactibles will cost you soldier lives while exploring the area: 1. Saving the halfling from chasm (reward in chapter 4); 2. Robe for monks with AC bonus; 3. Ring of bleed immunity; 4. Anti-plant light armor.
- Leper’s Smile: After killing the queen, there’s a cutscene where you have to pass a Perception DC:26 check in dialogue to get Perfumed Handkerchief.
- Leper’s Smile: Underground, after Queen – important items include Wand of Zacharius (interactible near wights), Terendelev’s Claw (examine cart into interactible)
- CAMP AFTER LEPER’S SMILE: in Nurah’s room, there’s a new perception check available (seemingly no DC), find a perfume bottle, then talk to Nurah about it.
- CRUSADE NOTE: After Leper’s Smile, conquering the fort to the west will move the camp there, and going to that camp will trigger an Ambush -> Lost Chapel. During this Ambush, go right out of your tent exit to find Nurah (Perception DC:15 in dialogue).
- Lost Chapel: After Nulkineth, the lower part of the area unlocks. COLD IRON available here + small quest relating to Arueshalae later – consult small map included on image.
- CAMP AFTER LOST CHAPEL: Don’t conquer the next fort in front of Drezen immediately to not trigger the Drezen Assault. Talk to Nurah. If you found the perfume after the handkerchief, succeeded the Perception check in dialogue about her past and during the Ambush before Lost Chapel, you can confront her and convert her (requires Trickster Mythic Path unlock)
- Inconspicuous Camp: There’s ELVEN NOTES available here.
- Underground Hideout: Has MAGIC ESSENCE in a container outside.
- Currantglen: (Ulbrig’s Quest Area – DLC) Knock down corpse from tree, clear area, pass diplomacy check on ghost (will cause things to change in Chapter 3)
- Assault on Drezen: Bring Radiance with you before going here.

- Forgotten Secrets: Can be solved (pieces from Shrine of Sacrilege), rewards ELVEN NOTES
- Gravestone Rock: (Seelah’s quest area) importantly rewards Hammer of Masterpiece from Derek, very powerful unique buff item that can be used 3x per rest.
- Ineluctable Prison: (4 portals available on the world map, only 1 is opened at any given time, they change every few days)

>(SECRET ENDING) After defeating the boss of the area, go to the cave-area and past a mobility check find Hepzamirah’s spirit, then choose “you shouldn’t have put faith in your father”.

>(SECRET ENDING) Do the Temple of the Stone Manuscripts first, make sure you pick up both “Glass Key” and “Key Crystal” from the Temple before fighting Deskari. You also need the Lexicon of Paradox back, but it should be automatic if you visit the temple and Galfrey is here (if Galfrey is here that means you gave her the lexicon, if you don’t get it from her that means you gave it to her while being on an evil path)

>(SECRET ENDING) Equip the midnight bolt before fighting Deskari, then shoot him to get a Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal in the dialogue afterwards.

>Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal from shooting real Areshkagal with a Midnight Bolt - (SECRET ENDING) If you’re missing 1 Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal, you can clear Murky Grotto – Midnight Isles DLC and do what Nocticula wants for an extra cystal at the end.
- (SECRET ENDING) Research “Studying the Unusual Crystal” in crusade mode before going to Threshold
- (SECRET ENDING) Research “Areelu Vorlesh’s Drafts” in crusade mode before going to Threshold (there might be 2 copies of the research available, you should only need 1)
- (SECRET ENDING) Research “Records of Pulura’s Stargazers” in crusade mode before going to Threshold
- (SECRET ENDING) Make sure you arrive in Threshold on Month IV (4), Days 15-21 (year is not checked)
Chapter 6 / Threshold
- There’s an extra ELVEN NOTES available past the camp in 2nd room with Balor, you can pick it up and return to the Storyteller.
- (SECRET ENDING) If you found all pages, you will get a Blank Page which lets you automatically solve the Lexicon of Paradox both parts – activate either part in inventory. If you don’t have the Blank Page, you will need to solve a set of difficult knowledge, lore and perception checks.
Secret Ending Specific Checklist
1. Purple Crystal Dagger – if you’re an Aeon you lose it at the end of Chapter 1, but gain it back after finishing your Mythic quest in Chapter 5
2. Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal from shooting Baphomet with a Midnight Bolt at the end of Chapter 4.
3. Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal from shooting Deskari with a Midnight Bolt in Iz
4. Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal from shooting Areshkagal at the end of Enigma/Nenio’s Quest
5. (Trickster/Demon only) Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal from shooting Nocticula if you fight her
6. (DLC) Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal from one of the potential endings after defeating Nahyndri
7-8. If you meet all the Secret Ending prerequisites, you can shoot Baphomet and Deskari with midnight bolts once again to get 2 more crystals.

1. Prologue – take the crossbow and shoot Deskari
2. Chapter 2 – give the non-good answer to Yaniel’s question
3. Chapter 3-5 – finish all Mythic quests to reach Rank 10 before the final boss (supposedly doesn’t count on the Devil/Gold Dragon mythic paths – bug?)
4. Chapter 4 – Exhaust all questions before taking/rejecting the power when talking to Areelu in Nocticula’s Palace
5. Chapter 5 – In Areelu’s laboratory, select the right order of items in the house and pick up Embroided Gloves
6. Chapter 5 – in Areelu’s laboratory, use the vial of summoning formula after Balor
7. Chapter 5 – in Areelu’s laboratory, give the “correct” answers to Areelu at the end depending on how you treated the two spirits
HARD REQUIREMENTS:
0. BUILD – Not going for LEGEND or SWARM
1. CRUSADE RESEARCH: Sword of Valor – no prerequisite in Chapter 3 to research as a decree
2. Suture observation:
2a. (Chapter 3) Suture Survived in Areelu’s Laboratory
2b. (Chapter 4) Free Suture from the Fleshmarkets – he frees himself if he took the power from the Lexicon in Chapter 3, otherwise purchase him (be nice to Sarzaksys) or kill Sarzaksys and destroy the Fleshmarkets
2c. (Chapter 4) In Nocticula’s Palace, talking with Areelu, remarked on him twice and got a perception check DC:38 which caused Areelu to remark on you analysing her
3. Lexicon of Paradox:
3a. Part 1 of the Lexicon – you can give it to Galfrey if you’re not going Lich or Demon at the end of Midnight Fane, otherwise keep it. You will get it back in Iz in Chapter 5.
3b. Part 2 of the Lexicon – pick it up from Nocticula’s Palace (on Trickster Mythic Path you have to give it away in the quest, but you will get it back)
3c. Decipher the Lexicon of Paradox – you can either pass a set of lore+knowledge+perception skill checks, or use the Blank Page from the Storyteller (if you got all 20 notes, with the last one in Threshold)
4. CRUSADE RESEARCH: Studying the Unusual Crystal:
You need any Fresh Nahyndrian Crystal to start this research in Chapter 5. Look up the list above. Uncertain if Purple Crystal Dagger counts for the research.
5. CRUSADE RESEARCH: Records of Pulura’s Stargazers:
4a. On Angel mythic path, you can research it after picking up the papers in Chapter 3 during mythic quest in Pulura’s Falls
4b. On other mythic paths, Chapter 5, you have to make sure Mutasafen doesn’t escape and then pick up the books in the room.
6. Kill Deskari in Iz
When fighting Deskari in Iz, he has to die. You’ll know if you succeeded if he shouts “impossible” after the fight.
7. CRUSADE RESEARCH: Areelu Vorlesh Drafts:
7a. In Iz, make sure to do the Temple of Stone Manuscripts first to pick up both Key Crystal and Glass Key from there before fighting Deskari.
7b. After Iz, go to Areelu’s Laboratory and use the Key Crystal and Glass Key to get the drafts from a secret room. This unlocks the research.
8. Knowledge from Hepzamirah:
After defeating the Hand of the Inheritor in Ineluctable Prison, go find Hepzamirah’s spirit in the cave area, and choose the dialogue option “you shouldn’t have put faith in your father”.
9. Meet 5/7 of Areelu Persuasion Requirements above
10. Enter Threshold at Month 4, Days 15-21
11. Have at least 1 Fresh Crystal or Midnight Bolt
