I’ve noticed a bunch of wrong info about these creatures in the game, so I decided to create a guide listing all the things I’ve discovered that the Dogs will and won’t react to.
This is just a list of things they can hear and things they can’t, based on my own experience and testing. Remember, they’ll attack and kill you if they touch you, so even if they didn’t hear you, they might accidentally run into you and get you.
What the Eyeless Dog CAN hear:
- Your voice (obviously)
- Running
- Walking
- The sound of items being dropped (size doesn’t matter much, but bigger items like two-handed scrap or the Ladder attract them from farther away)
- Stun Grenades (used ones work too)
- Roars of other Eyeless Dogs
- The Ship’s Loud Horn
- Airhorns and Clown Horns
- Any scrap item making noise
- Extension Ladder falling
- Transport rocket
- Flashlight being toggled
- Sound of a Shovel or Sign hitting something
- Boombox
- Radar Boosters turning on
- Radar Boosters being pinged (if close enough)
- Manticoils flying away when disturbed
What the Eyeless Dog CAN’T hear (or at least, what they don’t react to):
- Sound of a Walkie-Talkie when used or finished using
- Any voice or sound on the other end of a Walkie-Talkie
- Sound of a Walkie-Talkie being toggled on and off
- Beeping of an Extension Ladder before retracting
- Other creatures (They attack Baboon Hawks, but only if provoked)
- Sound of a player hitting the ground (This also means they can’t hear you jumping)
- Ship’s doors opening and closing
- Pin being pulled on a Stun Grenade
- Walking while crouched (I crouch-walked around Eyeless Dogs to test this. If they can hear it at all, you’d probably have to be inside the dog)
If I missed anything, I’ll add it later. Thanks for reading.
