Are you struggling to obtain the exclusive Halo 2 Anniversary matchmaking achievements, such as Rock and Coil and Hit Back + Roadkill Rampage? Look no further, as this guide will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to easily obtain these achievements and several bonus ones in just one afternoon. You will need a friend to help, so make sure they are willing to commit up to two and a half hours. This guide covers a total of ten different achievements, so pay close attention to make the most out of it. If you find this guide helpful, please consider giving it an award and a thumbs up. I have spent several hours perfecting it to make it as helpful as possible. Let’s get started!
Covered Achievement Overview (Including Bonus)
Earn 100 environmental kills. In our case exclusively from falling icicles.
Earn 100 splatter kills. Also from the icicles, but the other player needs to jump into them.
kill 5 people from behind in H2A. For use in the maps Warlord or Shrine where we can’t use icicles
kill somebody with an icicle.
Kill somebody with a fusion coil. This one is optional, it isn’t to hard to get, but it is only in H2A.
Win 10 H2A games as an elite. This can be done easily as long as you select an elite as your preferred species before you start.
Earn 250 beatdowns. When you aren’t on the icicle map, you can grind them there instead of quitting. I am pretty sure that these are melee kills using ranged weapons, so it includes back smacks.
Earn 500 grenade kills. Same as above, except DO NOT STICK WITH PLASMA, it won’t count. Instead throw it nearby them.
Earn 100 killing spree medals. You should get three a match if you don’t die, one for 5, 10, and 15.
Earn 100 legendary medals. If you get all 15 kills without dying, you will earn one perfection medal. It is up to you whether or not to grind them here or in some other mode.
Requirements Before You Get Started
You need to set your preferred species in Halo 2 Anniversary (here on out known as H2A) if you have not already got the 10 multiplayer wins as an Elite. You can get this done while doing the others.
This is pretty self-explanatory, this will be much faster with somebody to cheat the system with.
This one is not so obvious, so let me explain. When you load into a match, you are put into the server with the lowest ping at the time. this is great to load into matches without rubber-banding everywhere, but this also causes a problem for us. By default, you will have all regions selected, allowing for the largest pool of players to battle. We want to limit this so you can have the highest chance of finding your help every time. So go to settings, then the network tab. Here, if your help uses a controller or keyboard AND you use the SAME as well, go ahead and restrict input-based matchmaking. If your help also plays on Steam like you do, also restrict platform-based matchmaking. Make sure that your friend does also, or else you might not find each other. Next, ask your friend what are their lowest ping servers, and go ahead and deselect all but the 2 best ones for BOTH of you. MAKE SURE TO UNDO THIS AFTER YOU ARE DONE
Next, you and your friend will both need to select the Social Games tab in the multiplayer menu. Make sure that both of you limit the only game to H2A, and both select 1v1. Do NOT immediately matchmake, talk to them and set up a schedule, examples being a countdown and press Play on “Now,” or press Play on the minute change.
What To Do In The Match
So to start, we are trying to get both Rock and Coil and Hit Back + Roadkill Rampage at the same time. To do this, you are going to only want to get the 15 kills by shooting the icicles. They respawn every two minutes, so you could be on a time crunch. Here’s how to do it:
- First, shoot the fusion coils in the center so they don’t explode and kill your helper. While you are doing this, have your help run to the left or right icicle, and stand under it, but DON’T SHOOT YET!
- Second, You need to control the spawns to make optimum time, stand as far back in the corner by the first icicle you take down, it will cause the other player to spawn in a specific spot furthest from you, allowing them to reach the other two icicles faster, as they will know exactly where to go when they respawn.
- Third, when the other player is ready to be crushed, have them shoot a BR burst, but NOT AT THE ICICLE. After they signal they are ready, shoot one burst, wait a second to make sure they know it is coming down, then shoot the icicle a second time. Make sure that the other player jumps up into the falling icicle so it counts as a splatter in addition to the environmental kill.
- Fourth, do not kill yourself, let them kill you, or any other deaths, as it will take away from your perfect medal at the end of the match, which you get for winning a slayer game with 15+ kills without dying.
You can’t get environmental or splatters here, so you will need to work on your beat down and grenade kills here. You can get beat downs by a back-smack as well, so it will be a little faster. If you work towards the grenade kills, grab a sniper on either side to knock their shields, then lob a grenade at their feet. If you decide to pick up a plasma, again DO NOT STICK THEM, it will not count.
Again, no splatters or environmentals here, but beat downs and grenade kills will ensure you are not wasting time. If you want some bonus xp, the other player can get the active camo in the middle so you can get the medal “I See You” when you kill them. Frags generally don’t work well here except in the center, so you can pick up plasmas at the base of each color on the bottom level. Again DO NOT STICK THEM as it will not count towards the 500.
What If’s
If you happen to load into Shrine or Warlord, DON’T QUIT. You can still make progress towards three different achievements, Dim Mak: 250 beatdowns, Catch This!: 500 grenade kills, and Domination: 100 legendary medals. Before you start, go to the Career menu, and click on H2. If you navigate to the Multiplayer tab, and scroll until you find Dim Mak and Catch This, you can see how much progress you have made in each. You can decide on which you would rather work on, but chances are, if you start with Dim Mak, you will finish and be able to move onto Catch This! IMPORTANT: If you are working on completing Catch This!, DO NOT stick them with a plasma! Throw it next to them after taking down some or all of their shield.
- Shrine: if you get this map, run to the Mausoleum in the center, and let them come to you, you can backsmack to speed up the beatdowns or grab one of the snipers on the sides to lower their shields and then frag them.
- Warlord: This one has a few tricks, first if you would like some bonus medals, have your friend run to the center and grab the camo. This will get you a special medal called “I See You” if you kill them while it is still active. Secondly, if you are trying to get the grenade kills, grab the plasma grenades instead. Again, IMPORTANT, DO NOT STICK THEM. It will not count as a grenade kill. As to find the ‘nades, if you run along the bottom of the arena, at the center of each color side are two plasmas each.
if you get a random, send a message to them through MCC, they could be on Xbox, asking if they would be willing to help. MAKE SURE that you select “All” for chat, on keyboard, press tab, on controller press RB. If they won’t help, DON’T QUIT. Let them get the 15 kills, and then wait 5 minutes or so before starting a new Play Queue.
If you cannot load into a match with them, double check your network settings, you could have selected different servers or locked yourself to only controller/keyboard&mouse, or only PC if they play on console.
TLDR
Optimize your network settings to be as exclusive as possible, making sure your helper can still match-make with you.
Shoot an icicle, and before it kills the other player, have them jump into it, earning you both an environmental and splatter kill.
Here you can farm beat-down (melee) and grenade kills. IMPORTANT: if you are using plasma grenades for any map, especially Warlord, DO NOT STICK THEM, it won’t count.
