For the Glory of Gods Trading Card Game
Staples
- Are You Not Entertained?!
- Divine Intervention
- Gladiatrix Specialist
- Thracian Wrath
A general Gladiator “Rare” action card from the Beta set. This card is crazy! Stuff your deck with as many of these as you can (or the 4 maximum you are allowed)… It is geared specifically for Gladiators. But most, if not all successful decks contain a few of those. The gladiator “blessed” with this card, gains +4 Attack AND Fury! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! You just created a TANK that can attack twice!!
A Deity faction card from the Beta set. It is “Mythic“, so only 1 per deck allowed. But you MUST have this in your deck. At 0 Action Point cost, you just pay with your Player life to give one of your character cards +5 Attack! Perfect toward the end of the game, when adding that 5 attack wins you the game.
Another general Gladiator card. This one is from the Alpha set. She is “Rare” and is a 3-drop (3 Action Points) with Haste and Taunt with 3 Attack / 4 Health. She is a first turn drop that can attack, right NOW. And she can block your enemies first-turn enemy drops! Staple!
A Thracian [Gladiator] sub-faction Action card, from the Alpha set, that you must have in your deck! It is “Common“, so you can have 4 of these in your deck. Allowing you to take out mid-range enemy characters with the 3 damage choice. Or popping off 1 damage on an enemy character and drawing a card. Its 2 Action Point cost, makes it that much more valuable.
Haste & Taunt as Deck Themes
The “Haste” ability is exactly how it sounds… A “hurry” or “rush”. When a character card comes in play with “Haste“, they do not have the normal card “exhaustion”, and can attack immediately.
As you can imagine, a deck full of “hasted” characters, can put you on the offensive the entire match! If you look through your collection cards, owned & not owned, you can see the variety of characters that have this ability. It is quite easy to build a dominant deck based on this ability.
Some popular character card choices for a “hasted” deck are:
- Blood Thirsty Secutor
- Egyptian Warrior
- Germanic Berserker
- Gladiatrix Specialist (as shown above)
- Murmillo Specialist
- Ninja of Kyoto
- Persian Fanatic
- Retiarius Elite
- Retiarius Veteran Elite
- Skilled Thracian
- Thracian Gladiator
- Tokugawa Elite
- Viking Berzerker
The “Taunt” ability allows your characters, or artifacts, to block enemy attack attempts. “Taunt” is the primary defense against direct attacks towards your Player’s life total.
Decks built around the “Taunt” ability are usually the opposite of the “hasted” decks described above. They are built for defense, counter-attack, or card manipulation.
Some of the popular character and artifact card choices for a “Taunt” deck are:
- Amazon Guardian
- Battle Ready Secutor
- Burning Wall
- Egyptian Gladiator
- Former Champion
- Germanic Chieftain
- Germanic Giant
- Gladiatrix Elite
- Gladiatrix Specialist (as shown above)
- Murmillo Specialist
- Murmillo Veteran Elite
- Persian Warrior
- Roman Ballista
- Roman Champion
- Samnite Veteran
- Spartan Phalanx
- Viking Elite
- Viking Shield Maiden
Hand & Deck Destruction Strategies
The key to hand destruction, in my opinion, is timing. You must try to keep your opponent’s hand empty, or close to empty as possible, until you win the game.
There are quite a few cards that can assist in this strategy. Here are some of them from the current Alpha and Beta sets:
- Call of Thraex (as shown above)
- Confusion
- Despoil
- Germanic Sorcerer (as shown above)
- Persian Spy
- Roman Spy
- Samnite Psychotic
- Samnite Trickster
- Samurai Spy
- Secutor Infiltrator
The key to deck destruction is keeping the pressure on, if you can, by trying to remove some cards from the draw deck every turn. The ultimate goal would be to remove all of the draw deck cards, causing the opponent to lose by what is called “decking” or unable to draw a card the next turn. This is one of the “Lose” conditions.
- Brain Dump (as shown above)
- Cairo
- Dishonor from Within
- Forced Inspiration
- Retiarius Infiltrator (as shown above)
- Return to the Earth
- Shinobi Infiltrator (as shown above)
Staples for these types of decks are cards that allow you to play the above cards multiple times. The following cards are great for this:
- Book of the Dead
- Champion Thracian
- Reincarnation
- Samnite Witch
- Thracian Shaman
