In short
Fortunately, the map “Mechanized Invasion” contains the REV9 mech, without which solo players would have no chance at all, so if you want to increase your chances, play only on the easiest difficulty level and only on the “Mechanized Invasion” map.
We’ll Try Again Tomorrow!
The easiest thing is to just get into the mech on the “Mechanized Invasion” map and don’t even touch the yellow and red crates during the first three rounds.
Dead Blind
Deep fog begins from the seventh round, while shelters and roofs are free of it. To get the achievement, sit in a mech on the map “Mechanized Invasion” and spend the entire round in it from start to finish.
I F.E.A.R. Nothing!
Insane difficulty level (T+) is unlocked after you complete the entire story campaign. There won’t be any difficulties, getting through the first round while in the mech will be easy even on maximum difficulty.
Handle with Care
A tedious achievement, especially for solo player. You have to get it on “Mechanized Invasion” just as with any other achievement, on other maps you will not be able to hold out long enough.
On this map, after each round, at least three crates will be located in random places, but the one player will almost never have time to take them to the shelter during a break – he will have to carry the remaining ones during the battle, leaving the last not very dangerous enemy in alive (when you sit in REV9, such enemies are usually marked with yellow rectangles). Sometimes there are rounds without such convenient enemies.
If the last enemy is marked with a yellow square (demon dog) or red (especially dangerous enemy), then you will not be able to carry boxes normally. Exception – enemн with shield, despite marked red, single of them is okay to carry crates.
The player must take at least one crate during a break to his base (this can be a two-story house or a church) and after that get into REV9, cut circles around the map and shoot enemies until only one remains. During the entire round, it is worth checking out where the crates you missed are located – in the fog they glow with small yellow and small red lights.
Be careful: if you pick up the crate, you won’t be able to drop it. Before you grab the crate, you must position the last enemy as far away from you as possible. If a shooting cannot be avoided, simply break the line of fire, constantly change direction and turn corners: if the enemy does not see you, he will not be able to hurt you.
The maximum number of rounds is 20. If you try hard, notice all the crates available per round and carry them in the ways indicated above, you will get the achievement somewhere near to the 12th or 13th round.
Hanging 20
The most difficult part for the last, you can do this immediately after a successful attempt to obtain the “Handle with Care” achievement. Killing all 460 enemies by yourself takes a very long time, and yes, it is very easy to fail at the last moment, so be extremely focused.
- Carry only red crates. And carry them only if you are sure you can do it during the break. We don’t need yellow crates; if we have to leave our mech, only the best weapons, which are stored in red crates, will help us. Best weapons: “Goliath” grenade launcher (against enemy mechs and phase commanders) and “Arc Beam” (against all others – the weapon does not require reloading, has a legal auto-aim, can injure several enemies at once and at the same time stun them);
- In a mech use the laser rather than the cannons. It’s much more accurate and can shoot through fences, while your cannons (and enemy’s missiles) cannot;
- Avoid Alma. If she gets into your field of view or, God forbid, you shoot at her, then she will do something nasty to you: at best, she will simply blind you, at worst will kick you out of the mech and teleport you to a random location on the map, which is tantamount to death in later rounds. She likes to appear right where you are looking, based on this I can give a few tips:
1. Walk and look in the same direction as little as possible, it’s better to constantly strafe – walk sideways.
2. It’s not just that you can’t aim at Alma, it’s better for her not be rendered on your screen at all.
3. Never shoot continuously at normal enemies, shoot in short bursts instead so that there is less chance of hitting the appearing Alma.
4. If Alma appears in front of you, you have time to sharply turn away. If you react quickly enough, she won’t do anything to you.
5. Don’t shoot at enemies who are too far away, let them get closer – the closer the enemy, the less chance Alma will get in front of you.
6. If the enemy attacks in close combat (demonic dogs and zombies) – do not shoot at them, because then you will look at your feet, and Alma in this case may appear right under your nose. When attacked by such enemies, it is better to look above the horizon and press the spacebar to damage the enemies with your stomp.
7. In the fog Alma glows red, if you see a bright red glow – do not go there! Don’t even look there!
8. A little trick – you can specifically look in the direction that you don’t need, wait until Alma appears there, and then turn towards the enemies and kill them with confidence that within 20 seconds she it won’t hurt you. - Always remember where you are – if this little crap teleports you, even in the deep fog you will have a chance to realise where you are and where your mech remains. If you go higher, the fog will weaken and it will be easier for you to understand where to go. In extreme cases, the mech in the fog glows with blue lights from the front side;
- Constantly move. If you stand in one place for a long time, the burning red spots on the ground will not allow you to heal, even inside the mech;
- Your mech can make dashes. Press shift and fly diagonally – it’s ideal for escaping from enemies in order to get repairs in a secluded places;
- Learn to kill enemy mechs. Your cannons can stun the enemy REV9: if you shoot periodically, they will not even be able to scratch you. Hide behind the fence from the Big Mech so you can hit him with the laser, but he won’t be able to destroy you with his missiles. By the way, Big Mech will not be able to launch rockets if you shoot off his “shoulder pads”.
Advice from the comments from my original guide: both small and large mechs can be killed with spam in close combat (while you yourself are in the mech, of course), if you fly up to the small ones with a dash, and wait for the big ones to come from around the corner. Due to the constant stun, they will not be able to do anything to you, but if the big mech has activated its shield, you better hide and wait until its effect ends; - Quick repair. If your mech is badly damaged, then you can repair it in three seconds: hide around the corner, turn to face the wall, get out of the mech, wait a couple of seconds and get back in – it is 100% undamaged again;
- Never climb into the channel in the center of the map. This is a deadly zone: there are no cover at all, you are shot at from all directions and you can only get out of here in one narrow place;
- Best area for camping. This is the area with columns without REV9 mech. There are a lot of corners and cover, including a fence that allows you to safely circle around enemy mechs;
- Big Mech does not know how to look up. If you climb onto the rooftops, you can shoot him with a pistol (it has infinite ammo stored in its hideout) while they quietly awaits their fate.
