This gaming guide is all about achieving success in Dragon Age™: The Veilguard. We’ll give you the inside scoop on how to unlock all the achievements without spoiling any surprises. Let’s dive in!
Story (14)
They are all numbered per chapter/part, up to 14. You can’t miss those. Just finish the game, in any difficulty, with any ending, and you’ll get them.
1. During part 6, you’ll have to make a big decision. You can choose whatever you want; however, if you want to get to the good ending, you’ll need an extra precaution.
Here’s a simple spoiler with no names if you want to make sure you don’t miss anything: one of the game’s factions will be affected negatively, and it will be pretty obvious which one. This means that you’ll have a bit of a harder time getting faction strength with them because their quartermaster NPC, where you can sell valuables, will be gone. For the good ending, it is important that you don’t forget to raise their strength to AT LEAST 2 stars before the end, while also finishing the companion quests related to that place.
Even though you won’t have access to the quartermaster NPC, there will be plenty of quests to achieve this, and even to reach 3 stars if you put some effort. You don’t need to max them, just don’t leave them at 1 star!
2. Close to the end of part 11, you’ll receive the “When Plans Align” quest. This is your warning to finish ALL other achievements before advancing with this quest. You won’t be able to go back to take care of any unfinished business. Make a new manual save at this point. The game will warn you of this when you start the quest.
Factions (7)
There are 6 factions, with bases on different maps. For some of them, you just need to get to the highest rank of 3 stars (no need to get the strength cap). For the others, you have to finish their storylines.
You can raise their ranks by selling valuables to their quartermaster NPC and completing their quests, including companion quests, since those can also give you faction strength.
You’ll also get one achievement when you upgrade a faction’s shop for the first time. Upgrading their shops will unlock more gear upgrades and other itens, including more Caretaker’s mementos, which are needed for another achievement.
Obs: some of those achievements can be bugged and might not trigger correctly for some people. Keep backup saves. I got all of them without issues, but many others are still having problems.
Companions (7)
One for each companion. You just have to finish their storylines.
Make a habit of always returning to the Lighthouse after every quest to check for banter and quests from them so you don’t possibly miss any. You have to finish their quests before the story’s point of no return to get the achievement. Do those as soon as possible.
Note: at the end of their quest lines, they will receive the title of “Hero of the Veilguard”. Don’t worry if you don’t get the achievement at this point. There’s still another conclusion quest after this point; finish that one and you should get your achievement.
Obs: some of those achievements can be bugged and might not trigger correctly for some people. Keep backup saves. I got all of them without issues, but many others are still having problems.
Upgrades (4)
Change the look of an item for the first time using the wardrobe at the Lighthouse.
Rune For Improvement
Socket a rune for the first time. This functionality will be unlocked with the story. As soon as you get your first rune, open your inventory and place the rune on the appropriate slot.
Enhancements!
Fully upgrade a weapon, armor, and belt to their highest level and rarity. For this, you’ll need to reach max level with the Caretaker in order to upgrade your items to +10 status. This will require a LOT of mementos, some of which are missable, so keep an eye out!
Then, you’ll also need to find their rarity upgrades around the world, in chests or faction stores, to make those items legendary.
Stacking the Deck
Spent at least 52 points in Rook’s skill trees. Max level is 50, but you can also get skill points by finding Fen’Harel statues.
Combat (2)
Defeat an enemy by knocking them off a ledge during combat.
Between a Rook and a Hard Place
Perform five takedowns.
Exploration (6)
Find at least 20 & 80 mementos and return them to the Caretaker. Those items can be found via exploration and can also be bought from faction stores. Because of this, you’ll probably want to raise your rank with them to be able to buy all the mementos they have, since some mementos are missable. You’ll need more than 100 mementos anyway for another achievement…
Across the Imperial Highway
Visit every district possible throughout Northern Thedas. Keep in mind that this includes places you can only access during companion quests, so don’t miss those!
No Real Gods
Find all the Evanuris’ altars. Check your map to see how many are located in each zone.
A Most Esteemed Purveyor
At some point starting from chapter 6 or 7, the Caretaker will have a quest for you. Visit the required place to get the achievement.
The trigger for this quest seems to be inconsistent. For me, it showed up during chapter 9, but some people got it earlier. Check back at the Lighthouse occasionally.
Nostalgia Trip
Jump from the highest balcony inside the Lighthouse. To get access to this place, first you’ll need to solve the puzzle related to the statues around the Lighthouse. This will make a wisp appear and also unlock the music room. Then, during chapter 7, a second wisp will appear nearby. Take both wisps to the pedestals inside the music room to open a passage. Go through it and you will arrive at your destionation. Now, jump!
Memories (7)
Last icon hidden for spoiler reasons.
While navigating the Crossroads, you’ll find strange fade “portals” that will lead you to a vision of the past. Explore those visions fully to find an wolf statuette at the end of the path, giving you the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest.
You’ll also come across some paths blocked by blighted vines. By coming close to one, you’ll receive a quest to open it. Those quests entail killing elite mini-bosses across the world. Those monsters will drop an special essence, which you’ll use to unseal the blocked paths at the Crossroads (just check the quest related to it to know where to use it). You’ll find more wolf statuettes by exploring these new places. Keep in mind that some of these monsters might be in areas that you can only access after certain quests are done, so take your time, it will take a while.
Later on, after finding all 6 statuettes, you’ll need to use them on specific pedestals inside the Lighthouse to witness all 6 different memories of Solas, each one giving you one achievement. After the last one, the Caretaker will appear to tell you that someone is waiting for you in the Crossroads. Go there. The following part is related to the “Clear Minds and Open Hearts” achievement.
Now, for the task ahead, you’ll have two options: try to finish the quest by diplomacy alone or just defeat your enemy in battle. To get the achievement, you must solve it with your words, without resorting to a fight.
If you want to try this for yourself, pay attention to the conversation with your friend. They can provide precious tips on how to steer the conversation in your favor. If you remember those tips, it should not be hard to convince your foe that you are worthy.
You only need 3 correct arguments from the 4 possible topics you can pick during the conversation. The correct answers are as follows:
– First, say that you want help (obviously, since the other option is fighting);
Then, pick the topics and give the correct answers:
- Blight > You stood against it;
- The Gods > They wronged you;
- Worthy > Building a safe place;
Completing this quest is a mandatory requirement for the good and secret endings, no matter how you decide to do it.
Optional Quests (3)
At the Necropolis, you’ll need to find 4 wisps to open one specific door. At the end of that now-opened path, you’ll come across yet another locked door, but this time you’ll receive a quest, telling you to kill 3 enemies around the world. Those enemies will be marked on your map. Kill those and return to the Necropolis to open the locked door and face the boss inside.
Bringing Down the Sky
You’ll have to kill four optional dragons. One is the boss from the Unbound achievement above, while the remaining 3 come from Taash’s personal story. There are more dragons to be faced throughout the game, but you only need those four for the achievement.
In Peace
First, you need to finish the Grey Warden’s storyline. The last quest is called “Something is Coming” (around the start of chapter 11).
After this quest, you’ll have to find 3 flowers in the Hossberg Wetlands and bring them to a ghost located on the arena where you’ve fought the two dragons during the story. Those flowers are not marked on your map since they are not related to a quest, but you’ll know them by their distinct looks.
The first flower is right next to the NPCs at the end of the Something is Coming quest.

Good Ending (1)
The Ones That Last (icon hidden for spoiler reasons)
Requirements:
- Obtain the Clear Minds and Open Hearts achievement (see “Optional Quests”);
- Get a 3-star rank with at least 5 of the 6 factions (see the spoiler in the “Story” section);
- Have all companions as Hero of the Veilguard (see “Companions”);
- Achieve the best possible outcome during the endgame. More details ahead.
The first 3 requirements were already covered on previous sections of this guide. For the fourth one, you’ll need to make a sequence of correct choices to prevent anything bad from happening. The game will give you very clear instructions on how to make those decisions, so pay attention to the prompts and conversations. The list of correct choices will be detailed below.
Attention: I will give you just the exact amount of information you need to avoid spoiling anything, but even then, read this at your own choice.
Chapter 12
Your 2 big decisions on this chapter (while you are on the island) will not affect the good ending, so you can pick whatever you want.
Chapter 13
Here you have more than one possible correct choice for each decision. As long as you pay attention to the game’s warnings and explanations before each one, you’ll probably do the correct choices without the help of this guide. Once again, create another manual save if you want.
Correct assignments:
- Wards: Bellara, Neve, or Emmrich;
- Venatori: Lucanis (obvious choice);
- Juggernaut: Taash, Davrin, or Harding.
After this segment, you’ll be close to the final battle. You have another decision to make:
- Defense: Davrin or Taash.
If you got everything correctly so far, you’ll have a special dialogue option during the final conversation (after the boss). For this, pick the “You don’t have to do this” line under the additional dialogue options. Enjoy!
Secret Ending (1)
The Storm Quelled
Requirements:
- Obtain the Clear Minds and Open Hearts achievement (see “Optional Quests”);
- Find the 3 mysterious discs.
Here’s a picture of the disc.
Discs locations:
– Necropolis: left side of the arena where you fought the boss from the Unbound achievement;
– Arlathan: next to a chest that can only be reached by solving a puzzle with the laser beams. This area is not accessible right away, so you might need to advance the story a bit first.
– Crossroads: upper-left area of the arena where you fought the enemy hidden behind the 3 champion essences (see the “Memories” section for more info).
