Walkthrough for those stuck in the story quest.
Chapter I
-Outsmart The Pack
-Catch Your Breath
-False Dawn
-Patching Up
Grab the Adventurer’s Journal in the cabin.
Your first real quest is to retrieve your gear. You want to do this before anything else because it will grant you access to the compass. Grab any long grass you find on the way because you will need 9 ropes to get to your walkie talkie.
During “In the Footsteps of Friends”, you will be tasked to enter a cellar. The entrance is around the back. The key to the door is in this cabinet. Opening the door will finish the quest and grant you xp.
Don’t forget to grab the nearby book Jammy Treats
Following the tracks, you will end up at a broken bridge and someone standing on the other end. Follow Danny’s stupid decision to cross a broken bridge.
In The Footsteps of Friends II
Press the button a couple of times so you can see the difference between on and off.
From the cabin, you’re going to want to wander SE, past the dead paratrooper. Be wary of the wolf nearby and enter the cave.
Oh, look. Danny ran right into a giant wolf lair! Swing a torch around to get them to retreat back into the lairs. Run to the back and find a rock to climb up.
Pick up the Adventurer’s Journal 7 on the way and exit the cave to see Mike jump to the ground.
No Smoke Without Fire will trigger. Build the bonfire.
The Survival Instinct will trigger once the bonfire is lit. Follow the prompts.
While waiting for the rabbit, I went back to the cabin to rest and got a cutscene with the bear trying to break into the cabin. This gave me the Basement Key.
The basement gives you your first spear holder and an Old Map.
Returning to the rabbit, you will be prompted to dry the fur.
Smoke Signal will trigger next and you’re prompted to craft a fur set. Follow the story to trigger the quest Lost Contact.
Chapter II
The nearby Hunting Cabin will provide you with better spears and a recipe for a new spear carrier.
Explore the cabin for the Hunting Book and Fletcher’s Note. Check out the nearby painting for the end of the quest.
Sleeping at the cabin will provide the quest Strange Dream. After completion of learning how to impale a wolf, you should end up with two main quests, Missed Train and Footsteps From The Past.
Following the rail east, you’ll come to a dead end. Return to the fork and take the right path, past the Blue Railway Switch. Following the line, you’ll come to the Yellow Railway Switch. Take the left trail to trigger an elk hunt. Before following the elk, walk up to the gate to trigger the next quest An Immovable Object. Get back to the Elk.
After gathering berries and washing yourself, you now have venison to eat and a new Winter set to craft. Return to the large gate. Your goal is to get to the other side, so head up the South East path. Eventually you’ll find another railroad but the bear is sitting on it. Head east up the mountain. Your goal is to the north. This view of a radio tower is your destination.
Head to the left to see the bear and the track you’re following. Follow the track north towards the tower. You’ll pass by the Green Railway Switch. You will hit a blocked tunnel and trigger the quest The Next Stop. Veer off to the right a little and you will find a passageway to squeeze into Navigate the cave to the other side.
You have found the rail car. Use it to smash open the blocked path. Build a house with Sarah. This will end Relocation. Get on the cart and ride it to trigger Echoes of Sabotage. The lever is up inside a little white shelter. Move the nearby box to reach it.
Ride the rail to the next junction. Now you need to find the Yellow Railway Switch. The trail for it sends you back up the mountain to a spot where you need to use a cage to lower a bridge. I slept here for four days but the blizzard never went away so you get a crummy shot.
Cut down the bridge and follow the trail that snakes around back to the top of the lift. Go back about halfway.
You’re going to want to leap forward onto the rock to new area. Past the wolf den is the yellow lever.
With the lever in hand, try to ram the gate. After the cutscene, Danny will remark about needing to upgrade the trolley. Back to the yellow switch to take the other trail all the way back to the Blue Railway Switch.
Time to track down the Blue Railway Switch. Use the instinct again to follow the trail to a cave. Navigate to the top of the cave to pick up the trail again. Cut down a bridge.
It looks like someone went up but there are no stairs. Go around to make your way up to a wolf den where you will learn the Wolf Blocade item. The Lever is right in front of you.
With the blue lever in hand, hit the switch to head to the trolley upgrade station. You will also find the box that was dropped earlier for the quest Wrong Address. When the trolley is upgraded, take it to finally open the gate and finish An Immovable Object.
