Welcome to our guide for AFTER HE ESCAPED, a thrilling escape game set in a museum. In this walkthrough, we will provide helpful tips to successfully navigate the challenges and ultimately escape the museum. Let’s get started!
The Entrance Hall
There’s a closed door in the hall that grants access to the museum but it is closed, so you need to open it frst.
Tip 1: The door is connected to an opening mechanism inside one of the rooms.
Tip 2: The opening mechanism is inside a small alcove in the left room, it requires some kind of pass to be inserted.
Tip 3: The golden tickets laying around the mechanism and on the ground are the passes you need, but you’ll need to look around the rooms to find a stack with unused tickets.
Solution: Look for a golden ticket in front of where you began, next to the broken window in a disjointed drawer. Pick it up and go to the left room, then to your right towards a smaller room behind a brown curtain. Open the inventory and select the golden ticket, then insert it inside a black, rounded mechanism to open the door to the museum.
Turning the lights on
Tip 1: There’s a note with a drawing in the room where you began, hanging from a wooden box next to the door. It will tell you where the light control room is located.
Tip 2: The control room is at the top of the museum. However, you will find a closed door that blocks the path to the 3rd floor, so you’ll need to find another route at the 2nd floor.
Tip 3: There are lights and illuminated environment clues that can lead you to the destination. Turning off your lights might be useful to see them more clearly.
Solution: Go up the main stairs of the museum and turn left on the second floor, towards a curtain with a golden circle and red stripes. Go past the curtain and then turn left again once you see a narrow set of stairs. Go up and then turn left again. Go through the corridor and you will be now in the 3rd floor of the museum. The access to the control room is behind the previously seen closed door of the second-to-third floor, atop of the spiral staircase.
Light control
Tip 1: Each button controls the light of each floor of the museum, with the top one controlling the lights of this room. When you turn one of them on, you will hear a strange noise indicating that you are no longer alone…
Tip 2: By turning one of the lights, the creature will start appearing accross the museum, but this is a safe zone and you’re always safe here. There’s a note with a drawing hanging from the bottom left of the control panel that tells you about the lights and the consequences of turning them on.
Tip 3: The creature appears more frequently on the floors where the lights are on. You can avoid getting caught by turning your own portable lights off when you see it react to your lights.
The main objective
Tip 1: It is a map of the museum showing the location of four different triangular light switches that connect to a main device.
Tip 2:You will need to find the four of them before the main device can be activated. In the room you are at right now there is something that can lead you to each of the triangular switches…
Solution: The cables on the right wall are connected to the four objectives, follow them and turn the switches on to activate the main device, located behind the main stairs on the first floor.
Progression routes
See the individual Key item sections for more information on them.
On the other hand, the Triangular switch sections hold information on the four main switches you need to activate.
The improvised blockade
You will need to solve it by interacting with the buttons in order to lift the block.
Tip 1: The papyrus that hangs from the wall has the solution to the puzzle.
Tip 2: To check if your solution is right, you need to press the three main buttons in a specific combination and then do a check by pushing the golden button. The rounded button at the bottom resets the combination.
Tip 3: The papyrus is divided in three different sections, each for one button.
Tip 4: Are any symbols repeating?
Solution: The circle symbol repeats in every division of the papyrus. Press each corresponding button according to the amount of times they are displayed in each division and then press the golden button.
Key item: Bottle
- Finding the bottle.
Tip 1: The museum looks like it used to be a house, therefore there might be some sort of kitchen around…
Tip 2: There’s a kitchen room on the first floor of the museum.
Tip 3: The bottle we need is big, weirdly shaped and semi transparent.
Solution: Go to the kitchen on the first floor, west side (from the perspective of someone going down the stairs). There are two rooms on this side, one is locked. The other, at the end of the hall, is the kitchen door. The bottle is in the sink.
- Filling the bottle with water.
Let’s find a water source with which to fill the bottle.
Tip 1: There is a certain part of the museum that is dedicated to things related to water.
Tip 2: Some doors were not intended for visitors, and might be camouflaged as part of a wall.
Solution: There is a room with a boat on the second floor of the museum. In front of it there’s a wall with a hidden door to the left. Go inside and climb the various things scattered around until you reach the opposite side of the room, where the tank is. Take out the bottle and fill it with water.
Key item: Hammer
(See Improvised blockade)
Once the blockade is opened, get inside the room and go down the ramp into the underground access. You are now inside a labyrinthine set of hallways that lead to the room where the hammer is.
Tip 1: The incorrect paths tend to have more rubble and obstacles laying around.
Solution: Go past the hanging lightbulb and turn right and follow the stones. There is a hidden chamber with a wooden plank covering a strange hole at the end. The hammer is on the right part of the wooden plank.
Key item: Dining Room Key
But first you will need the hammer to access the room where the key is. See Key item: Hammer to know where to find it.
If you already posses the hammer:
Tip 1: The key locker is usually located on the entrance of buildings.
Tip 2: Go back to where you started and look around.
Tip 3: The wooden plank of the underground was hanging by two screws.
Solution: Go to the entrance hall and inside the room where you started. There’s a wooden plank to the left. Take out the hammer and remove any of the screws to gain access to the alcove. The key to the dining room is inside a drawer hanging on the wall next to a hat.
Key item: Main du Tât
The hand has been violently taken out of its original position and you need to take it back.
Tip 1: The room you need to access is on the second floor and is blocked by the collapsed floor from above. You need to find another route.
Tip 2: The collapsed floor might have opened a different route to the floor below from the third floor.
Solution: Go to the collapsed floor on the third floor. Walk over the furtniture and place yourself at the edge. Look for a protruding furtniture piece and jump down on it. You are now on the opposite side of the blocked path of the second floor. Go inside the room and jump down again through the broken floor. Pick up the clay hand and leave the room by opening the lock of the door.
Triangular switch: The Pyramid Room
Tip 1: Look to the stars.
Tip 2: The switch is not on ground level.
Solution: There are stairs on the left. Go up and you’ll see a set of boxes blocking the way to a small room where the switch is. Next to you there is a column you can get on top of. Follow the path to reach the switch.
Triangular switch: The Plant Room
Tip 1: The plants are pointing at something important, dying to reach it.
Tip 2: They point at a small device with some water on it that connects with the door.
Tip 3: There’s a small arrow in the device indicating the water is below a certain level.
Solution: The door mechanism is linked to the water level, you need to fill it with more water to open the door. (See Key Item: Bottle).
Triangular switch: The Dining Room
When you open the door you will find a room with a table turned over, some frames leaning on the walls and many statues laying around. There’s two doors on opposite sides of the room. One of them holds the triangular switch, but it is locked and can only be accessed by the elevated gangway that connects the two rooms.
Tip 1: The gangway is blocked by a mechanical claw that pick ups things that are below it.
Tip 2: Listen carefully whenever you enter or exit the Dining Room or the room inside it. Has anything changed?
Tip 3: The statues seem to be moving everytime you go through a room without looking at them…
Tip 4: Maybe if one of the statues end up below the claw it will pick it up.
Tip 5: The big frame and one of the objects near the right wall might have clues.
Solution: You need to make the statues move 4 times before entering the right room for the claw to pick one of them up with you inside said room. You will know if they’ve moved by the sounds of them dragging around. However, they won’t move if you are looking at them while going through the doors. Once the claw has picked it up you can go to the gangway and walk over the statue towards the other room, where the triangular switch is.
Triangular switch: HA’s Domain
You’ll find galleries with glass shelves that lead to a big scale that is missing one of two pieces. Until it has the second, lost piece, the scale won’t grant access to the gallery where the switch is.
Recovering the missing piece
Tip 1: The mural behind the scale shows what the pieces are.
Solution: The missing piece is the Main du Tât, a clay hand you will need to find in another part of the museum, maybe the hole on the ground next to the scale has something to do with it. See Key item: Main du Tât to get help finding it.
Lights off
Once you place the Main du Tât on the scale, the blockade will lift, granting you access to the triangular switch, which is next to a mysterious figure.
However, there is a spotlight that pushes you back if you try to cross.
Tip 1: The light comes from one of the museum’s lights.
Solution: Go to the control room and turn off the 3rd floor’s lights, then go back in darkness. The light is no longer there to push you back.
Awakening and recovering again
At the end of the corridor there is a figure and the triangular switch. The figure doesn’t look friendly, but it is not moving.
Tip 1: Activating the triangular switch will wake up the figure and make it rush to the galleries, accompanied by sounds of glass breaking.
Tip 2: The scale is missing the recovered piece again and the main gate is closed. The figure is roaming around and won’t be kind to whoever it can find.
Solution: You need to recover the hand and place it on the scale again to make the figure disappear and open the main gate back to the museum hall. It has been placed reandomly in one of the glass shelves. Avoid contact with the figure.
The Shadow Sarcophagus
A golden button has appeared in front of it. You will now need to solve one last challenge that will begin once you press the button.
Get in position, right next to the button, and push it. It will lift, activating a light source that will break soon after. Look closely, the button also activates a mechanical hand that adopts a new position when you press it.
Getting away will reset the mechanism and bring down the button for you to activate it when you’re ready to try again.
Tip 1: The whole scene seems familiar, maybe the safe room’s map has information on it.
Tip 2: The mechanical hand seems to be attempting to touch the sarcophagous’s tail with its fingertips, but it can’t quite reach it and it won’t move further. Maybe you can make them touch in a less… physical way.
Tip 3: The button activated a light source that is now broken. Maybe the solution has to do with lights and shadows.
Tip 4: If you aim your lantern at them, the tail and the hand project shadows on a curtain with a narrow white passageway of sorts that connects them both.
Solution: Turn on your lantern and press the button. From where you are, aim your light to the mechanical hand so that its shadow is positioned inside the white border of the curtains. Keep the shadow inside the border while you move to your right until its shadow touches the shadow of the tail.
The 8 Rooms
Once you solve the challenge of the Shadow Sarcophagus, a door will open that grants exit to the outside. Crossing it will make you unable to return to the museum, but you are not done yet.
There are 8 rooms in front of you, 4 of them containing a key that you need to open the final door at the end of the sandy hallway. The keys are distributed randomly across the 4 rooms, and you need to find them all and get next to the door to progress.
The Final Escape
But alas, something irrupts in front of you. A giant, shadowy pyramid is blocking your way, trying to prevent you from getting way. With all sides of your path covered and the museum behind you, your only way seems to be through the pyramid…
Someone familiar is waiting for you inside, but something is different about it, as if things were upside down and you were now the one looking for him.
Tip 1: Your lights are more powerful inside the shadow pyramid.
Solution: Light the creature up whenever he shoots up from the ground. He will appear in different areas inside the pyramid, trying to make it harder for you to see him while he prepares his charge. Taking too long to take him down will make him see you and take you down. Every light impact will make him and the pyramid weaker, until you finally defeat him by hitting him 8 times.
Once you’ve done that, you have finally escaped the museum. Congratulations!
