Double back
You will need to acknowledge the first TheWireorg email to unlock challenges. Wait until you get both Recursive I and Recursive II in your Black Market challenges tab. You can activate them both and complete them in a single mission. The best mission to get them is any one of the Races given by TheWire, and make sure you have Gatekeeper. Gatekeeper is a program you can buy from the Black Market as you progress in your game.
When you start the mission,
– Trigger Gatekeeper then remove it. This lands you on the a0 node for the first time (entering the mission does not count as a land).
– Move down the network and focus on getting to the goal first, because you’re on a timer. Don’t take any side paths yet.
– Once you reach the goal server, interface and select Finish (or Goal, I don’t remember). This removes the timer.
– Remove Gatekeeper and retrace your steps. Take the side paths and you should able to ping-pong between nodes on the side paths to get them twice.
– Land on the goal server again and exit. While in the network, the Challenge Complete pop up only shows up once, but when I got back to the home console I got both pop ups. Both Recursive I and II got completed.
Punchline
Keep completing the Wire missions until you get a final email from TheWireorg about a vulnerability that needs to be patched at Punditgen. Do the mission and select either of the patch options when you interface with the server node. (I got the achievement when I selected potato puns, but I’m sure the achievement works if you patched it normally too.)
The Sword
As you progress your game, you should get an email about moving a soldier to b5. Go to the Apps page on your home console and select Hacker Chess. Start a game and move your pieces in such a way that if the game board is big enough, moving a piece to b5 would have been a valid move. Make that move and wait for the scene to play out.
Start the address that just got added. Here are some tips on the interfaceable nodes:
– Ask for money upfront. IIRC the other option reveals 1 ICE.
– Search the corpse before picking the key. You can interface twice on this node.
– Study the painting. I don’t know what the other option does.
– Move upwards first to the vault and activate the bridge. Go through the door and to the right and down.
– Unless you’re drowning in money, take the money. It’s more impactful than drinking the potion (potion gives you 5 HP which is only valid in this mission and you don’t need it).
– Don’t look down the hole unless you’re okay losing HP.
– Move back up and to the left.
– Search the throne and you get the sword.
– Use the sword (vorpalsword without spaces) on the Jabberwocky. Maybe twice. Second hit is usually a crit and finishes it off.
– Exit

From beyond the grave and Killed twice
Getting one will lock you out of the other. Before getting either achievement, you should make a copy of your save file (instructions below).
To trigger the address you need, you must first complete the Customer Service virtual network. There is a vault in this network. The password is the answer to the sundrops’ riddle: shadows.
This triggers an email from Pavo. Acknowledge it to unlock an option to email Snail for info on Pavo. Email Snail. When he replies, ask him “what do you mean”. Do the missions that Pavo sends you on, and finally confront Pavo. This adds an address called Killing Pavo (iirc). You should make a copy of your save game now. You don’t have to quit the game. On Windows you can find save files if you
– go to %appdata% in your file explorer. This lands you in AppData > Roaming.
– go back one directory to AppData
– go to LocalLow
– go to LuGus Studios
– go to Midnight Protocol
Find the data1.sav or data2.sav or data3.sav you’re playing on and make a copy.
In the mission, kill Pavo to get the Killed twice achievement. If Steam didn’t pop up an achievement notification, quit your game entirely to get the achievement first. Then swap out your save file with the copy. Run your game again. Repeat the mission and release him to get the From beyond the grave achievement.
You will be locked out of these achievements if you don’t email Snail for info on Pavo (I think the opportunity expires) or if you reply to Snail with the other option (something like “never mind”). Fun fact, you need Pavo to give you the Rainbow program (which you need for The Raven achievement), which cannot be bought from the Black Market.
Connection and Brother
When Snail emails you about your brother, you must allow him to contact you. Help your brother out and remember the room number that his lover is in. This adds an address (I don’t remember the name of) with a bunch of chained up servers, one of them being the room number your brother mentioned. You need to either free your brother’s lover and euthanise everyone else, or free everyone. I don’t know if euthanising your brother’s lover will lock out the second achievement or not. This gets the Connection achievement.
This triggers an email from “Doc” with a threat. Resolve the threat either way you like. This gets the Brother achievement.
You will be locked out of these achievements if you told Snail to ignore your brother, or if you finished the first mission without messing with the other servers, or if you let your brother fall to Doc.
Blackout
After you confront Kraken, you will get an email from Astrid. Do as she says until she tells you to fudge hospital records for someone. This adds the address Broken. Getting this achievement may mean failing this mission and Astrid will stop working with you. Not a big deal as she doesn’t give you more missions after this anyway. But if you care for non-gameplay reasons, make a copy of your save game. If you’re getting this achievement and not making a copy of your save game, you might as well steal all the money from the hospital, since stealing money will also end your relationship with Astrid even if you complete the objective.
To get this achievement, interface with the facilities node near the patient data notes. It’s the only action, something like “shut down”. This will exit the network immediately. I did this before completing the objective and Astrid stopped working with me. I don’t know if I had completed the objective, not stolen any money, and then shut down the hospital, if our relationship would still be intact. Someone can try that and comment below.
You will be locked out of this achievement if you blackmail Astrid or fail her prior missions before the hospital one.
Delayed
When you get the email from Gareth about removing his cheating photos, you must agree to help him. This gives you the Incubus address. You must download from both Beth’s data node and Gareth’s data note. You will learn that Gareth got Beth some Cyllene runners, and that Beth is working for ENRA. Fast forward, you will get an email from Det. Santos about Zigana. Zigana’s dead and the report mentions Cyllene runner footprints. Keep working with him until you get an option to reply to his email with something like “I know someone who works with ENRA”. You need to tell Det. Santos about Beth and he’ll try to catch her at a train station.
This adds an address (I don’t remember the name of, maybe Train Tracks?) and you need to download from a data node to learn of a track change. Then disable the correct track.
You will be locked out of this achievement if you didn’t download from the data nodes in the Incubus network, or if you didn’t work all the way with Det. Santos, or if you didn’t reply to his email with the correct option.
Control
When you confront Signal in the address Echo, you need to not succeed. Plant a trojan and exit. Then email Snail for help. Snail will give you the Prototype address. Golem is a multi-threaded ICE in Prototype that you need to defeat completely (head and hands).
You will be locked out of this achievement if you succeeded in Echo (e.g., using The Trrashman that gives you 1 extra move action), or if you completed Prototype without defeating all of Golem.
The Raven
You need to download from 3 data nodes in 3 separate addresses:
– The Trench (Kraken’s) at node d0
– Monarch & Reiter at node d2 on the third floor
– Prototype at node d0
You need to decrypt all 3 databits on your home console and wait for the scene to play out. This adds the address The Morrigan. You will need Rainbow (triggered by completing the Customer Service virtual network), and you need to crack the vault with Rainbow for this achievement.
You will be locked out of this achievement if you didn’t get all 3 databits, or if you breezed through Echo without asking Snail for help (see the Control achievement above), or if you exited The Morrigan without cracking the vault.
The Keepsake
When you are in terminal recovery (after Act II) and talking to Unknown on the subnet, you need to respond with “haven’t we caused enough pain”. Eventually the Archives address will be added. Interface with a server node to send a necklace.
You will be locked out of this achievement if you didn’t talk back to Unknown. The Archives address will still be added but Clover will have retrieved the necklace instead, not you.
Footer
FYI if you are missing an address and you don’t want to replay for achievements, you can edit your save game to insert the address. You will need to know the internal game id of the address though. Some are straightforward, like Prototype is just Prototype and Killing Pavo is KillingPavo. But some are not, like Broken is TriadHospital.
The code to insert is as follows:
<id>Prototype</id>
<done>false</done>
<locked>false</locked>
<grade>0</grade>
<creditsStolen>0</creditsStolen>
<objectivesCompleted>0</objectivesCompleted>
<reputationAwarded>0</reputationAwarded>
<seconds>0</seconds>
</mission>
Replace the name inside <id> </id> and put it underneath
<Data xmlns:xsd=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema” xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance”>
<missions>
The few key IDs that I still have in my save files (older missions get wiped after Act II, and all I have are 2 completed games and 1 gameplay at 30 minutes in) are:
Race01
TheENRAIncubus
TrainTracks
KeepsakeDigiSec
Keepsake
Prototype
TheTrench
TheMonarch
TheMorrigan
Hope this helps. Happy achievement hunting!
