Character & Team Guide
General
Team composition can vary, and there are many ways to build a good team, however I recommend making sure your entire squad has at least 100 Vital and 80 Speed, but more is not necessary. Minimum Aim for effective gun usage is 60, and minimum Melee skill for effective melee usage is 40, but dedicated gun or melee characters should have either at least 80 Aim or 80 Melee respectively. For characters that are going to be using any gun larger than a pistol, try to max out their Aim, as ammo is very valuable and every shot counts. Max out Melee on your melee characters. Put the character with the highest Search on your first slot.
The Survivors
The first team is probably the most well rounded and balanced team in the game. Their main downside is the fact that they are rather slow, practically forcing you to use their first level up entirely on Speed (except for the faster Scientist, to whom you might want to give 1 point to Vital and Speed each), however, outside of Sydney this team has the best melee characters in any of the starting teams.
You’re going to want the Scientist on your first slot and Sydney on your second, so you don’t need to swap between characters to make them search. The placements of the Cop and the Worker are irrelevant, but I prefer to have my melee character on 4.
Sydney is the vanilla ice cream of your group; She works very well as the second searcher and is a great asset with an SMG or MG. Her perk is situational, but it allows her to occasionally avoid unnecessary damage, making her an above average survivor.
The Cop has one of the best perks in the game, allowing him to reload while moving; This makes him incredibly efficient at fighting bosses. You’re going to want to give him the first big gun you get. Once you have more weapons, I recommend giving him a shotgun, as they are very powerful weapons only hindered by their need to reload often (The AA12, however, is great for any character). He does not have much use at HQ.
The Worker is the only strict melee character in the starting teams, but this is very good, as he is going to be your team’s literal backbone. He starts with the third best melee weapon in the game, which means you won’t need to equip him with a new weapon until you find the morning star or the lightsaber. His low Speed may seem like a downside, but it’s quite the opposite; it’s a good idea to keep him one Speed point lower than the rest of your team, as his Stun Blow perk allows him to slow down any boss zombie chasing you and give your party a moment to breathe. His high Build skill is useful for HQ work, and it allows you to set up turrets in scouting or ambush missions quickly.
The Scientist excels at searching, and is also the best character for HQ projects that require Search, thanks to his perk giving him random bonus Search points when working. Due to his low Aim and above average Melee, it’s a good idea to give him a melee weapon, but if you want him to carry a gun, then try to stick to pistols.
The Good & The Bad
This team puts a very neat twist on the way the game is played. Now that you only have two characters, HQ progress is very slow, but don’t worry; they can handle themselves in combat just fine. Make sure you swap their weapons as soon as you have enough ammo to do so. Although it’s not recommended, their decent Melee skill allows them to use melee weapons if they need to. Despite their competence, it’s not a bad idea to try and find at least two more survivors as fast as possible, as it only makes the game easier.
The SWAT has higher Search and Build, so make sure to put him on slot 1. If everything is clear, the Thug can help with searching.
The SWAT is going to be your searcher and shotgunner. His slightly higher Search compared to the Thug dooms him to be the searcher of this duo, but his perk to reload not only while moving, but also faster makes him a contender for the best character in the game, as with the double barrel shotgun he can explore the map all on his own as if he had an endless magazine. His literal only downside is that he is one point slower than the Thug, and trust me; it’s a very good idea to give him that one point in Speed, as duos need to do a lot more running than larger groups.
tl;dr he is a direct upgrade to the Cop
The Thug is a good gunner. He’s going to be following the SWAT everywhere and be watching his back whenever he’s searching. His high Speed allows you to put the first level up points you get straight to Aim. His perk is similar to Sydney’s, but it does not give you a complete evasion of damage, however, it is still useful, especially when he’s covering Vic or you choose to give him a melee weapon.
No Man Left Behind
At a glance they may seem like a downgrade from the previous team, but Pwnisher’s perk alone makes it worth it to play as them. They have the most unique starting weapons in the game, which is fun, but they do lack the skill to effectively wield melee weapons.
Put FreddieWong on slot 1. They can both be searchers, but because of Pwnisher’s perk, FreddieWong should be the one searching more often.
FreddieWong is identical to Pwnisher, except for the fact that he lacks the Gun Burst perk. FreddieWong takes over the more mundane tasks for this duo such as searching and building. Pwnisher generally takes priority over him when it comes to weapons, but FreddieWong can wield all the same weapons perfectly fine.
I may have mentioned his perk too much, but it’s seriously what makes this team so viable. Pwnisher’s burst fire mode when standing still is a wonderful tool for scouting and fending off ambushes. If you equip him with a reflex sight, he has the fastest rate of fire in the game. I usually give him an SMG or MG.
Character & Team Guide Part 2
The Left 4 Dead 1 survivors definitely earn their “Hero” titles in this game. They have the highest firepower and best Aim of any of the starting teams. You only need to spend a single point on Aim for each character to have a full team with 100% hit chance. They are easily the best fighters in the game with only a few minor downsides.
Zoey should be on your first slot no matter what. Zoey shares the highest Search of the team with Bill, and her CPR perk can be a literal lifesaver, so you definitely don’t want to waste time trying to pick her to revive someone because you forgot what number she was on. Slot 2 is contested between Bill and Louis; Louis may have lower Search, but Bill is going to be your main source of firepower, so Louis may be a better choice as second searcher, even if he’s a tad bit slower. The rest of their placements are irrelevant.
Bill’s Eagle Eye perk makes him an incredible sharpshooter. His natural longer range with every weapon makes bandits a non-threat, and in the lategame you can make it even better with the use of scopes. I prefer to give him a sniper rifle, but he’s also great with automatic weaponry and not too shabby his starting shotgun either. As I said before, you might not want him to spend a lot of time searching, but if you want to be as time efficient as possible, it won’t hurt to have him help.
Francis is probably the character in the game closest to being considered a tank (not the zombie kind, of course). His perk allows him to stay revivable for 26 seconds after being killed, which is a lot better than the default 14 seconds, and also makes him one of the easiest characters to rescue. He is also the only character in the Left 4 Dead squad with decent Melee, so if you’re trying to conserve ammo you could give him a melee weapon. What I’m trying to say is that you should put Francis in the team’s most vulnerable positions. He is a little slow though, so depending on your playstyle you may need to put his first points into Speed rather than Aim.
Bonus: I like to think that he and Loco know each other, as they have similar facial hair, tattoos, and perks.
Louis is the most practical of the Left 4 Dead characters. His perk gives a slight boost to build constructions at HQ, making him the polar opposite of the Scientist. He doesn’t have Bill’s range, Francis’s strength, or Zoey’s agility, but he’s more than sufficient to fill that remaining spot in the team. There’s a lot of build variety to be had with Louis, as you could make him your second searcher, double down on his perk by giving him higher Build skill, or try to do both. He definitely plays a similar role that Sydney does in the first team.
Zoey is a great asset to any team she’s put in. Her Speed starting at 80 means you can put her first level up points into Aim and Search, pretty much completing her build in the first few in-game days. Due to her perk allowing her to revive fallen survivors quicker, make sure she’s the last to die. Her high stats coupled with the CPR perk make her a real battle medic, however the perk is replaced entirely by the defibrilator item in the lategame. Since she’s going to spend a large chunk of her time searching, you can give her MP5 to someone else and give her a pistol until you get your hands on more guns.
Rescueable Characters
Generally speaking, replacing one of your starting characters with a survivor you found later on is not always the best plan of action, but it can give you some very fun team compositions. I will be speaking about every character here as if they were starting characters (which they can be if you’re using Extra Survivors).
Pewdiepie shares the same stats as the YouTube Gunmen, however, his perk makes him uniquely special. His reloads cost less ammunition, so he’s far more cost efficient with guns than the rest of the cast. He’s great to have in your team if you’re trying to make a good profit on ammo.
CutiePie shares the same stats as the YouTube Gunmen and her boyfriend (now husband) Pewdiepie. She’s identical to FreddieWong except that she only starts with a glock. If you already have a full group she’s better for HQ projects, but she is a good fighter if you need her to be.
The Hobo, thanks to his perk, may be the best searcher in the game, but this comes at the cost of various downsides. He shares the lowest Speed in the game with the Worker, and his Aim and Melee skills are at the bare minimum for him to be viable with either guns or melee weapons. He makes for a great HQ worker as well. If you send him on an expedition with Pewdiepie you’ll be rich in no time!
The Outdoorsman is a pure combat character, having similar stats akin to the Left 4 Dead survivors, minus the perks. He’s a great gunner to have in your group and will do well with just about any weapon.
The Hunter is functionally identical to CutiePie in every way. Good as an HQ worker but also a capable fighter. Give him an AK47 if you want to blend in with the merchant’s guards.
The Nerd has nothing that he particularly excels at, but you can turn him into a good searcher. I like his description.
The Detective, similarly to the Left 4 Dead survivors and the Outdoorsman, starts with 90 Aim, at the detriment of low Speed and no other combat skills to make up for it. You can try to make him a gunman or a searcher, but he’s also a wonderful HQ worker.
The Researcher is a well rounded and average survivor. He’s slightly worse in combat than the Detective, but shares the same Search and Build stats, which make him a good fit for HQ.
The Boxer makes it easy to see why he was a rising star in the local boxing scene. He’s quite quick and his perk allows him to dispatch multiple zeds in one swing. He’s not as good at holding off bosses as the Worker, but far better in crowd control. You can make him a good Builder.
The Cheerleader is every bit as flashy as you would expect her to be. She is great both at fighting bosses and crowd control. Her Fast Cut perk allows her to chop down boss zombies quickly, and she can cut through hordes of zeds very effectively. Unlike the Worker and Boxer, however, she does not start with a melee weapon, and rather with a glock. She does not have much use at HQ.
Closing Remarks
I’ve wanted a full character list with stats to exist for a long time, so when I came back to the game again recently I decided to finally make it. Infectonator: Survivors is one of my favorite games, and while I know Toge Productions has been going in a different artistic direction (I love Coffee Talk), I do think this game has untouched potential and would love to see more of its kind.
