Welcome to our guide for Retro Mystery Club Vol.2: The Beppu Case! This article will help you unlock all the achievements in this exciting game. Get ready to solve mysteries and earn achievements. Let’s get started!
Introduction
More wise words from Ken.
This guide will detail how to obtain each of the 13 achievements in the game. As with my guide for the first game, I have not included a full walkthrough for the story itself because sometimes there may potentially be multiple ways to progress the conversation to the desired outcome, and certain dialogue may be optional. This game plays just like the first game, where you can easily progress by exhausting all the dialogue options (and potentially repeating certain options to hear more details).
One difference in this game is that Ken allows you to use the smartphone’s camera much more often than before, and a couple of achievements involve using this. The game on the smartphone is also different, and the achievement for this can once again be obtained on multiple different days.
The story spans multiple days, and I have split this guide up into the days that have achievements available during them.
If you spot any errors in this guide, please let me know and I will update it.
K-Drone GOAT
Not sure how 28th place makes you the GOAT…
This achievement can be obtained on multiple days by choosing Use smartphone > Game. Once again, your access to this game is somewhat sporadic, as Ken will sometimes scold you and prevent you from playing.
I personally found this a lot easier than Ninja Kai in the first game, as you don’t need to survive long at all to get the 10,000 points required for the achievement. The game is simple, you just need to avoid colliding with or being shot by the enemy ships. You get points from destroying the enemies and then gathering the people who fall out of the destroyed ships.
When you boot up K-Drones, there is an instruction manual for the mini-game which details how many points you get from gathering the different people. There are also multiple weapon types, and various sorts of enemies (even boss fights), but you don’t need to get that far to get the 10,000 point achievement. An easy way to get the 10,000 points is to just stay fairly still (only moving occasionally to dodge the odd bullet) and spam the shoot button (spacebar on keyboard) as at the start of the game, the enemies will often spawn in a line. It also makes it easier to gather up the falling people, as they fall in line with where the ships were destroyed. Note that if you spam too many shots, you’ll run out of energy/bullets.
Prologue / Day 0
When you get to the showdown with Cheshire Taro, do the following:
Show > Police badge
Show > Martial arts
Show > Martial arts
Show > Martial arts
At this point, Taro should say “I’m getting the crap beaten out of me!” and the achievement will unlock.
You will obtain this achievement automatically at the end of the prologue.
First day in Oita / Day 1
Near the start of your first day in Oita, Fumika will take you to the Anans’ house.
You can’t initially take photos of the house, as Ken insists on asking for permission first. Do the following to get the photo for the achievement:
Ask > Social media posts
Investigate > Building
Investigate > Shadowy Figure
Ask > About Mitsu
Show > Police badge
Use phone > Camera
Day 2 in Oita
When you reach Mt. Kirikabu, do the following to get this achievement:
Question > Nearby
Question > Food stall
Question > Building
Investigate (at which point the UFO will appear and Ken will comment on it)
Use phone > Camera
Day 3 in Oita / Investigation Day 1
At the end of the day, you’ll be at Bar Karamatsu. Do the following:
Order > Sake x 7
The dialogue will look like it’s stopped changing partway through, but once you’ve done it some more Ken will eventually say “Looks like I’m gonna have a hangover from today…” and the achievement will trigger.
Investigation Day 2 (Day 4 in Oita)
There aren’t any achievements on this day of the investigation in this version, but I think the “missing” achievement from the Japanese version might potentially trigger at some point during this day. Looking at the achievement image, I think it might potentially be from winning the Duck Race at Rakutenchi theme park:
I’ve not particularly looked into how to trigger the duck race to actually start (the staff member mentions needing more people first) seeing as there wasn’t an achievement for it in this version of the game, but if it’s ever added in I’ll come back to amend this.
Investigation Day 3
When you go to the Seven Hells on this day, you must take a photo at each of the hells, by doing Use phone > Camera.
- Marine Hell (starting location)
- Boiling Cauldron Hell
- Monk’s Hell
- Needle Hell
- White Sea Hell
- Blood Hell
- Dismemberment Hell
If you visit them in the above order, on going to White Sea Hell you’ll be told Fumika is at the Boiling Cauldron Hell. However, don’t go there just yet, make sure you get the rest of your photos first. On taking the last photo, the achievement should trigger.
Investigation Day 4
Partway through the day you will encounter Tokiko, who will eventually invite you to bathe in the hot springs.
When she asks, do the following:
>Reject
>Reject
>Go together
The scene will swap to the hot springs. Now, go through the conversation:
Listen > Arakane Baths
Listen > About Tsukimiso
Listen > About Arakane
Listen
Listen > Reason for meeting
Listen > About Tsuneba
Listen
At this point Ken and Tokiko will leave, and you’ll instead be joined by Fumika. Now do the following:
Look > Aim the cursor at her shoulder/skin
Look > Aim the cursor at her towel
Look > Aim the cursor at her towel
On looking at the towel a second time, progress the text until she says “Damn towel…” and also the – Select an option – text but don’t press anything on the menu afterwards. Instead, wait 2 minutes and an event will automatically trigger, earning you achievement.
Note that picking Reject three times instead at the start of this section will instead result in Tokiko staying in the hot springs with you, but there is no achievement for this.
Investigation Day 6
Later on in the day, you’ll be at the cliff. Eventually, Fumika will bring out a drone. Progress the conversation until you get given the options Fly or Case notebook. It’s probably worth making a save here in case you mess up.
Once you’re ready, select Fly and you’ll have to complete a mission where you fly a drone whilst avoiding trees. Watch out for the tree stumps! You’ll get the achievement if you do it successfully in 3 attempts or less. There’s two parts to the mission: during the first part, the sky is orange, whilst during the second it’s red. The second part has more trees to avoid.
It’s quite straightforward–you can dodge left or right, or instead make the drone fly higher (though it can then get hit by gusts of wind if you’re too high up, and these can destroy the drone). Be careful moving too soon after avoiding a tree, as you can clip a tree you think you’ve already passed. The achievement actually triggered early for me whilst I was partway through the second half.
Investigation Day 7
Partway through the day, you’ll be at the Anan family house. Once you’ve finished up all your conversations there, you’ll have 3 options of what to investigate next under Change location. Make sure you pick the first option to visit the clinic first:
Change location > Interrogate Hisae
Once there, Ken will go and buy some onigiri (before committing the ultimate betrayal!) and the achievement will trigger.
Investigation Day 8
When you go to Restaurante Filament, you’ll come across a familiar face from the first game: Nishizawa. Make sure to Use phone > Camera to get a photo of him for the achievement.
Investigation Day 9
At the Inazumi Underwater Caves, you’ll get to do an Underwater search. It’s probably best to make a save using the Case notebook first. Once you’re ready, proceed with the Underwater search.
You have a limited amount of oxygen–if you run out, you’ll automatically be warped back to the start. Alternatively, you can Go back to the start at any point using the option on the menu (or alternatively by navigating back there through the maze).
For this achievement, you will need to find a hidden room. When you first find it, you can’t actually enter the room:
I’m not 100% on what the exact condition to open it up is (whether it’s related to oxygen use, number of steps, or how much of the maze you’ve navigated), however it opened up for me after having navigated through the entire maze and stepped on every square in the caves (aside from the exit/target point) before going back to the crack in the wall.
I’ve made a map of the caves–make sure you’ve walked through all of it (except for the square marked E), before going back to the crack in the wall.
S = Starting location
L = Arrow on the wall pointing left
R = Arrow on the wall pointing right
X = X drawn on the wall
E = Exit (Don’t go on this square until you’ve been to the hidden room)
C = Crack in wall
H = Hidden room
Once the message has changed to the above, you should do the following:
Investigate > Between the rocks
Move forward
At this point you’ll be in the hidden room. To get the achievement, all you need to do now is:
Investigate > Nearby
If you’re not sure of the code for the briefcase, it’s 1603 (his birthday).
This achievement will automatically trigger near the end of the day.
