“Looking for a quick reference on where to find Dragon Tree Fruits in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana? Look no further! This guide will help you locate all the spawning points for these valuable items, which can heal you for 1,000 HP and even revive you. Whether you’re just looking to find them or wanting to farm them for survival, this guide has got you covered.”
Introduction
I have tried to present them here in the order in which you’d probably unlock the areas, and I have separated Adol and Dana segments as well (to be discussed later).
There could be !!! SPOILERS !!! for some in my guide and screenshots. That is not the intention, but inadvertently, some items or information in the screenshots provided may reveal things story-wise that you didn’t know, so I recommend using this guide late in your first playthrough (around when Adol specifically is granted something very useful to use), or do this on a subsequent playthrough.
Earlier in the game, some of these may be difficult to get if they’re in trees because you can’t jump high enough. It becomes easier once you obtain the double-jump item through basic progression. In the Dana segments, she always has double-jump. Some of them you can reach via rocks or ledges with a single jump, and some are just on the ground for easy access. There are also some special skills a few of the characters have which have some vertical ability and can knock these down off trees.
Why Do You Care About These?
Dragon Tree Fruit are farmable and valuable healing items in-game that can heal you for 1,000 HP. They will carry over to New Games as well if you choose to carry items over. Farming these can be a useful tactic for helping yourself survive during Nightmare mode or harder parts of the game, and unlike the potions that require empty bottles, you can farm these over and over and stack them. And unlike the food which have a buff that prevents re-use (unless you use a juice to remove the buff or wait for the buff to end), these fruits can be used multiple times in succession, immediately, at any time, even during a fight.

Dragon Tree Treasure is a more rare version of Dragon Tree Fruit that you can obtain from the same locations. Which one you get seems to be based on chance. The Treasure version will Revive a fallen party member in addition to giving the 1,000 HP.

Timer
As much as you want. From what I can tell, there seems to be no limit. They are only limited to respawning based on gameplay time.
Most people online suggest they think these respawn every 5-7 minutes of game time, however in my experience playing this game on PS Vita and on Steam, it seems more like 15 minutes to respawn (I’ve been using timers to find out).
I’m also pretty sure you need to leave and re-enter the area for the respawn to work too. You could just warp to the same point you came in at. But I think if you’re farming them, you could do a loop of all these locations, and by the time you are through it all, perhaps the first one you did has respawned. You’ll have to experiment and find what works for you.
Adol & Dana Segments
Yes. The main game (Adol) is separate from the segments where you play as only Dana. Dana’s segments can also have difficult sections and hard bosses, and her segments have fewer options for gear, leveling up, and items to heal, so it can be valuable to farm in her segments separately from Adol’s segments.
As you can see here, my inventory and item list for my Dana segment is different and separate from the previously shown Main game, or Adol segment, ones.
Helpful Gear
There are three armlets that can increase your obtained items rate, or amount. All three are the same, with increasing rate levels for each, so use the best one you have at any time. I don’t have any proof that these will actually increase the number of fruits you can pick up.
Here is the Bandit Gloves, probably the first ones you’ll find. Found in Towering Coral Forest:
Then the Bandit Bracelet, second best. A reward for completing the “Gather Supplies” village quest:
And finally the best one, the Bandit Gauntlets. Found on Pirate Ship Eleftheria:
More importantly, there is one accessory that can increase the quality of what you pick up. This item will give you a higher chance of your found item being a Dragon Tree Treasure rather than just a Fruit version, meaning it’ll additionally have the Revive effect.
The Gambler Coin accessory. Purchase this at Dina’s shop at some point for Gwaranga Pincer (x2), Bullfrodon Mucus (x2), and Salamandine Hide (x2):
~~Main Game / Adol Segments~~
Titis Primeval Forest
It’s probably easiest to warp to the Titis Primeval Forest crystal shown centered on the marker here on the world map.
Head north from the crystal. Here’s an area map view with the location centered.
This one’s hanging in a tree.
Pangaia Plains
It’s probably easiest to warp to the Breath Fountain location point if you’ve discovered it (shown centered on the marker here on the world map).
Alternatively, you can go to the Stone Pillar Wind Cave crystal, exit the cave behind you, and head north.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered.
This location usually has two on the ground, on either side of the tree and water.
Lodinia Marshland
It’s probably easiest to warp to the Lodinia Marshland crystal (shown centered on the marker here on the world map). Then basically head east (away from the vines near the crystal) and around the corner with the load screens, and over the muddy waters back to where it is.
Alternatively, you can come from the Vista Ridge crystal, but it’s very far away. You’d have to head all the way down the hill and into Lodinia Marshland, and then west across the muddy water.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered. It’s kind of an island in the back of all the muddy waters here.
There is one in a tree, with a rock to jump from to reach it. Watch out because there’s always a large Primordial here guarding it, and another one in the muddy waters on the way here.
Eternal Hill
It’s easiest to warp to the Graves of Ancient Heroes location point (shown centered on the marker here on the world map). Then head south.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered.
There are three on the ground on the edge of the hill, in the middle of the area.
Night Exploration: Pangaia Plains
This area is also very late game, and unless you have leveled up a decent amount and geared up decent, you may find this area somewhat difficult at first. To transition to a Night exploration, you must select it at specific campsites. So go to the Pangaia Plains Camp (shown centered on the marker here on the world map).
Then examine the tent and select “Conduct Night Exploration” and it should load.
If you’re curious, here’s the night time world map for it. You are technically in a dungeon now.
The first spot is shown on the area map view with the location centered. It’s east of the camp.
There is one in the tree here before you head down the hill.
The second spot is shown on the area map view with the location centered. To get here from the first one, head north, and around to the east, and south, to a corner tree.
There is one on the ground under the tree.
The third spot is shown on the area map view with the location centered. To get here from the second one, head east across the thin strip of land, then north to kind of the center of the area.
There is one in the tree here that is next to the edge where the water is. Two screenshots of the same tree here.
The last spot is shown on the area map view with the location centered. To get here from the third one, head north up the hill and through the loading screen to the last part of this area, then east to this sort of corner under the overlooking ledge.
There is one in the tree here.
This is actually by far the shortest night exploration area, which is nice. Rather than running all the way back to the camp, if you got to the fourth one, then you’re near the end. Just continue north and east around the water and you’ll eventually hit an invisible wall asking you if you’re done and want to exit.
The exit is shown on the area map view with the location centered. It’s not far from the fourth one.
~~ Dana Segments ~~
Getting To and From Dana Segments
Dana segments are marked on the main game world map by red crystal markers. For any particular location, go to the red crystal, examine it, choose to “Touch the Crystal” and then wait for the transition to occur.
During the transition cutscenes, there is a button you can hold to fast-forward it. Which button it is will depend on your settings and if you’ve changed it. Check your controls in the game menu for that information.
Dana can get back the same way, but instead of touching the crystal, you touch the sapling (the tiny tree) that she had planted as part of the story in that section.
However, it’s far easier to just open the game menu and select the Cross Era option that only appears in Dana segments (shown here). No matter where you are, it’ll will initiate a transition back to Adol’s time.
Pangaia Plains [Dana]
If you warp to the Pangaia Plains camp (shown centered on the marker here on the world map) you will find it. It’s labeled as “The Red-haired Swordsman” segment for Dana. Touch the crystal here near the camp to transition to Dana.
This will put us in Titis Approach in Dana’s segment.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered on the first one. It’s near where you transitioned to Dana.
There is one in the tree.
To get to the second one, head slightly north and then east to load into a new area. Then head up the steps and back west to load into another area. Then hop up the hill back to where there was a Dana segment side quest to clear up a blocked waterway.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered. It’s kind of in the middle up high on a hill.
There is one in the tree.
To return to Adol’s time, just open the menu and use the Cross Era option. Or you can run back to the crystal and touch Dana’s sapling tree near it.
Towal Highway [Dana]
If you warp to the Towal Highway camp (shown centered on the marker here on the world map) you will find it. It’s labeled as “A Day in the Life of a Wandering Maiden” segment for Dana. Touch the crystal here near the camp to transition to Dana.
This will put us in Towal Highway in Dana’s segment.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered on the first one. It’s near where you transitioned to Dana. Just below the ledge, in a tree next to a big rock and a Saurian.
It’s near where you transitioned to Dana. Just below the ledge, in a tree next to a big rock and a Saurian.
To get to the second one, head south down the steps, then north west through two loading screens to an area where you likely completed a side quest finding a spirit and fighting a Saurian.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered.
This one is also in a tree next to a rock.
To return to Adol’s time, just open the menu and use the Cross Era option. Or you can run back to the crystal and touch Dana’s sapling tree near it.
Lodinia Highway [Dana]
This is the easiest segment to reach this one. If you warp to the Lodinia Marshland crystal (shown centered on the marker here on the world map) you will find it. It’s labeled as “Beneath the Sullen Clouds” segment for Dana. Touch the crystal here to transition to Dana.
This will put us in Lodinia Highway in Dana’s segment.
Here’s an area map view with the location centered on it.
It’s near where you transitioned to Dana. Easy access, right?! There will be two on the ground here.
If you’re so interested, you can also do this from a different Dana segment, but as stated, it’s the same location, so it’s on the same respawn timer. There’s no point in doing this twice, pick one or the other segment to loot this one. This particular segment is less convenient for this location.
If you warp to the Temple Approach crystal (shown centered on the marker here on the world map) you will find it. It’s labeled as “A Painful Decision” segment for Dana. Touch the crystal here to transition to Dana.
This will put us in a slightly different Lodinia Highway in this Dana segment.
You’ll have to exit the garden you start in, and then head very far south through multiple loading screens to get to this part of Lodinia Highway. Here’s an area map view with the location centered on it.
It’s the same one’s on the ground as described from the earlier segment. Again, remember they’re the same fruits and on the same timer, so doing both segments won’t get you double fruits.
Thank You
I have also extensively played this game in its original form on PS Vita and found nearly all of these locations to be the same there, so this can serve as a guide for probably any version of the game.
Let me know if I’ve missed any and I can add them.
