Are you struggling with Onion Delivery in UFO 50? Look no further! This guide provides a map, tips, and advice to help you conquer this challenging game. With a little practice, you’ll become a pro at delivering onions in no time.
Introduction
Onion Delivery is the 23rd game in the UFO 50 collection, and along with games such as Combatants and Star Waspir, is considered one of the most difficult games in the collection to beat. You play the role of a green alien working for a delivery service across a sprawling alien cityscape, with only three continues and a limited amount of time to make your required five deliveries each day. You also have a maximum of three hitpoints, which can be recharged by driving quickly. Your main goal of the game is to survive working for a week.
General Tips
- The most important tip that can be stated about the game is to drive with confidence. You regain your health by maintaining a certain amount of high speed noted by your HUD on the left. Therefore, slamming into the occasional car shouldn’t deter you as long as you are still going fast.
- The game uses the red dot on the radar of the HUD to lead you to the next location, though it does not account for obstacles such as dead ends or dropoffs into rivers of slime. Therefore, memorization of the city layout is very important and useful to keep your speed up while avoiding obstacles such as these (or utilizing the map in this guide to help route your deliveries, based on the location listed on the HUD).
- Entering the terminal code ROAD-RAGE in the pause menu will enable you to explore the city with unlimited time and unlimited health. While you can’t experience any of the modifiers this way or make any progress in the game, this mode is very useful for getting used to the game’s controls and getting a better understanding for the city’s layout with minimal pressure.
- This city drives on the right side of the road. Therefore, if you stick to the right of the dotted line on the game’s roads, you should be able to avoid more oncoming traffic and keep your health up.
- You only have to deliver five onions a day before making your way back home, unless you are attempting to go for this game’s Cherry requirement (see later section). If you’re only going for a game clear, you can beeline for the end of the level as soon as possible after delivery number 5.
- Boxes suspended by balloons can often be found around the map, obtainable by driving into them by hitting a ramp. These are often in difficult/dangerous locations, but if you are confident enough and are driving fast enough at the right location, you can have more time to work with.
- Each day after Day 1 has a select number of modifiers to make deliveries more difficult, ranging from adverse weather conditions to something actively chasing and trying to harm you. These modifiers are explained in the news section before each day, and can happen in a randomized order each playthrough.
- This game uses two buttons, with one being for acceleration, and the other being for braking/reversing. However, if you hold down both buttons at once, you will enter a drifting state. This enables you to turn more sharply, especially useful for making full 180 degree turns without moving much. Try not to drift too hard though, or else you will spin out!
- Letting go of the acceleration button will allow you to make turns more easily.
- If the game’s pacing is too fast, some people like to drive everywhere in reverse to have a better reaction time. However, you sometimes may not be able to deal with the game’s modifiers this way, and may not be able to make enough deliveries to reach the Cherry requirement.
Cherry Tips
Onion Delivery’s Cherry requires the player to deliver a total of 50 onions by the end of the week. This means that overtime is required for our poor three-eyed shmuck. In order to pull off this feat:
- Keep in mind that you will be delivering 35 onions bare minimum by the end of the week, without overtime. This leaves you with 15 onions to deliver in overtime as you see fit, spread across the 7 day week.
- On average, you can hit this requirement by hitting 2 or 3 overtime onions a day, per day of the work week. Getting more onions in overtime during the day modifiers you are more confident with can help you end the day modifiers you are worse at early, and avoid losing a run due to dying too many times in the poor conditions.
- Since the first day of the run always doesn’t have any modifiers, it is useful to get as many onions in overtime during the first day as you feel like you can, especially through utilizing the time bonus crates. It is especially useful to go for maximum onions during the second day as well, due to there being less of a risk of lost process from restarting at that point. You don’t want to have to make up for a 5 or 6 onion deficit on your last day of the week.
Map
Here is a guide to the game’s map, which can be used for routing deliveries and avoiding obstacles. Due to the sheer size of the map, it has to be included as an Imgur link to prevent decreasing the quality of the map. Keep in mind that the game’s map loops horizontally and vertically. Using the map and some practice, you’ll be delivering onions like a champ in no time. Good luck!
