Attention all gamers! Are you struggling to unlock all the achievements in Torn Away? Look no further! This guide will walk you through every achievement in a step-by-step, chapter-by-chapter format. Plus, we’ll give you some hints along the way to make your journey even easier. Get ready to conquer Torn Away and achieve 100% completion!
Introduction
A notable exception to this is the Memory in your pocket achievement, which requires collecting diary entries throughout the game. I will underline the different parts of the guide when they relate to progressing this achievement.
I try to avoid spoilers to the game in how I word my instructions as much as possible, but clearly this can only work so well in a 100% achievements guide, so spoilers ahead. Sometimes I put hints that are not always necessary to get an achievement but may be helpful if you are stuck somewhere around that part of the game, and those are hidden as spoilers like this.
Chapter 1 (August 23, 1942)
Father’s Message: Read the letter on the cupboard in the main room.
You also have to examine the photo on that cupboard next to the letter to find the key.
Torn away: Complete the first chapter of the game (awarded automatically).
For the Memory in your pocket achievement:
- Observe the chocolate wrappers under the desk in Asya’s room.
- Find the Little Octobrist badge under the table in the main room. You will need to move some papers to reveal it.
- When you take the vinyl, a photo will fall out. Make sure to pick it up from the floor later.
Chapter 2 (December 23, 1942)
No Turning Back: Early on you will reach a house that you need to crawl under (the first such house in the game). Use the stairs on the other side to climb on top of the roof. You will later need to push the stairs while standing on the roof to go further – don’t do it yet, get the achievement first! Triggered by walking to the opposite end of the roof.
Exemplary student: When you fall through the roof of an abandoned house, walk up to the table, observe and read a crumpled up letter. This will also result in an entry for your diary, which you need for Memory in your pocket achievement.
Almost Alice: In the same abandoned house, examine the ‘cupboard’ on the right side of the room. Collect beets on the top shelf to activate the achievement.
To progress the game, examine the lower shelf to find a passage to an adjacent room where the axe can be found. Then use the axe on wood in the first room.
Keep your head down: Pass the first stealth section of the game without getting caught. Use trees and boxes as covers, and for the final leg of the section, take note of one box which you can move while crouching behind it at the same time.
Chapter 5
Mother and child: When you reach the house during the blizzard, explore the table in the basement and read the diary. The achievement triggers when you read every entry. Reading it also unlocks your diary entry needed for Memory in your pocket achievement.
Also in the basement you will find matches, the final item needed to start the fire.
On the ground floor, make sure to explore the cupboard and find pearl earrings in one of the drawers to unlock another diary entry.
Kind soul: Choose to feed the mouse once the fire is burning and you are in the armchair.
War is war: Choose to not feed the mouse.
Chapter 8
All by Herself: Awarded automatically for completing the chapter.
Chapter 9
Unexpected Guests: When you wake up back in the house, immediately go for the bookshelf and move it so that you can escape from the window. The achievement is awarded for succeeding on the first try.
Chapter 11
First Aid: Bandage the pilot’s wound. Awarded after the bandage is applied.
Chapter 12
Igor’s Sacrifice: Achieved by reaching the end of the chapter.
Chapter 13
Today without dinner: Complete the second stealth section of the game without getting caught. It’s okay if you mess up any other platforming in the game before the wolves show up, too. The section has only three animals:
- The first one will be on top of the exit from the cave, you just need to wait for it to leave.
- For the second one, you need to run through three gaps betweeen stones while the wolf is looking to the other side. The pattern is: right gap (long) – middle gap 1 – right gap (short) – middle gap 2 – left gap – middle gap 3. So, pass the left gap when the wolf looks at right gap (long), wait, pass the middle gap when the wolf looks at right gap (long) again, and finally go through the right gap as soon as the wolf finished looking at right gap (short) and switches to middle gap 2.
- The third wolf does not look away, you simply need to crouch and proceed to the right.
Chapter 14 (December 25, 1944)
The past is in the past: Achieved automatically close to the start of the chapter, once you cross the road.
People like you: In the town, go all the way to the right to a bakery. When kids run outside, follow them back to the left of the screen. Try to steal the breadcrumbs. The achievement is awarded once one of the kids helps you pick up your hat.
Chapter 17 (April 25, 1945)
Frau’s kindness: Awarded at the start of the chapter, after the first dialogue.
Daddy’s Pride: After the first dialogue of Chapter 17, walk to the table and examine the paper boats. You will be offered a choice to make one right now. Achievement is awarded once a new paper boat is made. Don’t worry about making mistakes if you do not know the origami scheme, feel free to feel your way around it. But if you are having trouble then below is the manual that the game itself provides once you fold the boat. This is also a diary entry needed for the Memory in your pocket achievement.
No more fun: In the same room, jump onto and then on the bed a few times to trigger a dialogue with Comrade Mitten. Feel free to take note of the shelf above the bed for the next chapter.
Safe now: In the same room, walk to the closet up close to the screen. Examine Asya’s hat to trigger a dialogue and the achievement.
Books are Your Best Friend: In the main room, walk up to the bookshelf and open all five books. There is a key to the sewing machine drawer in the third book you open, but for the achievement open the other two.
There’s only one left: In the kitchen, walk up to the table in front and peel the three potatoes.
A Dear Friend: Once you have found the key to the sewing machine drawer see Books are Your Best Friend, sew the mitten without mistakes. Watch out for the yellow line and a yellow cone: to sew correctly, the yellow line should be just a bit to the left of the right side of the cone (the line and the cone disappear once the line is inside the cone, so make sure not to move the line too much to the left). Note that the wheel will not turn if the cone and the line are showing, so do make sure the line is inside the cone. When it is time to make a turn, the game will show the cone and the new position of the yellow line, so you only need to adjust when the game tells you to. Still, I recommend going max 2-3 stitches at a time and stopping to make sure you don’t spin that wheel out of control.
Chapter 18
Blinded enemy: When you reach the restricted area, avoid stepping into the projector’s light by waiting for a truck. Only cross the road when the truck stops, but do it immediately as it does, as it will stop for just long enough for you to reach the other side.
Chapter 19
Michael’s heroism: Once the train starts moving, examine the box you were hiding in to find Michael’s note. Achievement is awarded upon reading both sides. Finding the note will give you another diary entry for the Memory in your pocket achievement.
Chapter 22
Baby in the woods: The chapter starts in a first-person mode labyrinth. I got this achievement by spending about 7 minutes in the labyrinth while walking around: I am not sure if it is triggered by the time spent or by passing certain locations several times.
In case you are wondering how to solve the labyrinth itself (for example, because you are restarting this chapter multiple times for the Born Under a Lucky Star achievement and want to do it reliably instead of randomly): it is quite confusing since its layout changes (at least two times, I think?), and actually you cannot get out of it until it does. The way I complete it is by hugging the right wall until I reach the wires, find the wire cutter, and then go back to the wires again. I think it is also important to walk into the deadends for the layout change to trigger, so make sure to hug that wall tight.
Born Under a Lucky Star: Cross the front without dying; the achievement is awarded at the end of the chapter. This level requires a lot less ‘run to the right of the screen for your life’ and more looking for a way around obstacles compared to what was happening before. So don’t rush, and study the level layout to keep these environmental puzzles in mind. Despite the game trying to get you to panic and go fast, you are almost never in danger by just standing still and figuring out your next move (unless you are standing right in a gap where bullets shoot or stopping on a shattering stone platform).
Sveta’s care: Awarded at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 23 (April 30, 1945)
Nothing to Hide: Answer truthfully during the interrogation.
If you are having trouble, this is the dialogue choices that worked for me:
- (A) All right.
- (D) No.
- (A) Home.
- (A) Far away.
- (D) Worked…
- (A) It was bad.
- (A) Bombing…
- (D) Kind people.
- (A) Soldiers…
Chapter 24 (May 10, 1945)
Memory in your pocket: The start of this chapter is the last time entries in the diary are added, so the achievement should unlock if you also collected all the optional entries throughout the game. For me though, the achievement unlocked only when I completed the game and restarted this chapter in selection mode, so if the achievement is not working for you then you can also try that.
Old man’s hopes: Awarded at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 25
Flit away again: Run up to butterflies on the side of the trail and scare them away.
Homecoming: Continue down the trail, and the achievement will be awarded automatically.
Chapter 26
Connected: Reach the end of the story (awarded automatically).
Nice to meet you: Watch the credits till the end after completing the game.
