Welcome to the ultimate text guide for unlocking every achievement in Thief Simulator 2. In this article, we will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to acquire all of the game’s achievements. Whether you are a seasoned thief or just starting out, this guide will help you maximize your success in Thief Simulator 2. Let’s get started!
Preface
There are NO miss-able achievements
There is 1 difficulty based achievement (Complete the story on Hardcore mode) For more info, check the listed achievement for details.
Story Achievements
Escape Cops: Escape from cops without leaving location ——————————-
One of the first you will probably unlock. On the second job, cops will be called to the house you are in. Your contact will recommend that you hide in the nearby trash bin on the property and wait. After the cops leave, the achievement should pop. (Technically, you can ignore the contact and run away, but this is the easiest way to get this achievement early.)
Whoops: Get caught by police ———————————————————–
Unmissable if you are playing the story.
Lawbreaker: Go to jail ——————————————————————–
Unmissable if you are playing the story. Goes hand-in-hand with above achievement
Prison Break: Escape Jail —————————————————————
Unmissable if you are playing the story.
Pay rent: Pay rent like a normal citizen would ————————————
Every 5 in-game days, you have to pay rent for staying at your “hideout”. It happens automatically on the 5th day and deducts it from your carried money. It’s $150 dollars and if you don’t happen to have that much on you, you will see a negative number where your money is. Beyond that, there is no negative consequence to not having money on you when rent triggers.
Traveler: Travel 15km ——————————————————————–
Hard to miss. You will be walking, running and driving A LOT in this game so it should pop pretty early.
Garage Owner: Buy a garage ———————————————————-
Unmissable if you are playing the story. Cost $8,000 at your hideout; yellow icon on the fence to the right of your hideout.
First Heist: Complete your first heist ————————————————-
Unmissable if you are playing the story.
Shh, Time to Sleep: Buy the tranquilizer gun ————————————-
Unmissable if you are playing the story. Required for final mission.
Free Man: Complete the story mode ————————————————-
Unmissable if you are playing the story. Should pop after the credits.
Difficulty-based Achievements
Hardcore Thief: Complete the story on Hardcore mode
Here are the main difference’s from normal difficulty:
- You lose the perception ability to see tenants/dogs through walls
- If you get caught by police, your carried loot get’s taken and put into a storage room at the police station. If you want to keep that loot, you have to retrieve it before you escape.
- Bailing out costs all of your carried money (As of 09/26/2024, this seems to be bugged and is only costing roughly a 3rd of your carried money, not all of it)
- You can only have 1 manual save + the auto save.
The biggest change is the loss of the perception mechanic. Now during jobs, you have to rely solely on audio cue’s (footsteps & other noises people make) and the tenant’s schedule. It’s up to you whether you want to jump into hardcore mode immediately or play on an easier difficulty first. I decided to just bite the bullet and do my first play-through on hardcore. I figured it would easier that way so I don’t rely too much on the perception mechanic, only to have it taken away on a second play-through. I’m not going to make a full walk-through on how to complete each job, but I will provide some tips that helped.
1. Planning is crucial in this mode. Before taking on a job, ALWAY’S buy all of the RobTips and use the micro camera to unlock a job’s full tenant schedule. If you don’t know the full tenant’s schedules before starting the job, you’re gonna have a bad time.
2. Pay attention to the current day event. A feature in this game is a variety of different daily event’s that can occur. Some are beneficial (i.e. Blood Donation day = All tenants will be out of the house from 7-8) and some are detrimental (i.e. Burglar Awareness Day = People are on high alert). You can check the month’s event’s by opening your phone with the up-arrow and selecting “Calendar”.
3. There is a rather annoying feature in the game where sometimes, tenant’s will randomly decide to change where there are located. It’s only a 10% chance (which you can reduce to 5% with an unlockable purchase), but when it does happen, it always happens at the worst time. Never assume a tenant is where the schedule puts them. “Sleeping” and “out of the house” are the only times that i’ve never seen random schedule change-ups occur.
4. Abuse the sleep system in the game. Unless you are playing on Survival Mode, you can sleep/pass the time whenever and however long you want. This allows you to skip bad event days and position you for the most optimal time to sneak on to a property.
5. Don’t be afraid to tackle certain properties multiple times. A lot of the later houses have some really frustrating tenant schedules and there will be some times where you need to bail early because it’s getting impossible to move around. Additionally, if a job is too difficult for the tools you have available, go do some of the other houses you haven’t done yet until you level up and get some money to buy/upgrade your tools. At some point, you will be able to purchase a cloaking device which, when used, gives you 60 seconds of invisibility. This makes some of the end game houses much more manageable
6. ALWAYS scout out the nearest hiding spot(s) before beginning a job. It’s almost inevitable that bad luck will happen and the police will get called. Knowing where you can run to evade the cops is critical. Pro-tip – If the cops haven’t seen you yet, you can run to the edge of the map to go back to your hideout. Don’t worry about your truck; it will teleport back with you. Speaking of running……
7. You should avoid over-encumbering yourself during a job unless you know for sure you can get back to your car safely. In this game, you can carry up to 5 kg’s over your normal weight limit, BUT if you do, you cannot run and you will be producing more noise as you move through the house. That 4kg, $250 dollar microwave looks enticing, but not at the cost of you moving like a turtle.
8. Weight-to-value. As you progress through the game and sell new items, the value of previously sold items will be shown when hovering your crosshair over those items. You will learn pretty quickly that some items are not worth the weight. Early game, it’s not critical to pay too much attention to this, but as you tackle bigger houses, you should be mentally keeping a list of items not worth picking up and weighing you down. That being said, in terms of XP, the first time you pick up a specific item on each property, you get 10x the amount of experience you would typically get for normally picking up that item. If you want the XP, but don’t care about selling an item, just picking it up and dropping it will give you that XP HOWEVER if you do this and leave the map, the item you picked up and dropped will de-spawn!! DO NOT DO THIS TRICK FOR ITEMS YOU INTEND TO PICKUP LATER!!!! There are a lot of items that do not respawn.
9. Try to park your truck as close to the property as you can, ideally near where you plan on exiting. Thankfully, npc’s do not really seem to care where you park your truck EXCEPT on sidewalks and in the middle of the road. As long as your truck isn’t blocking an NPC from walking/driving, everywhere is fair game. Additionally, if the police are called, you should avoid getting into you car. The reason why is if you are driving away and a cop car happens to hit you once, you are immediately arrested. Unless you can get to your car quickly and have a clear shot of escaping, you are much better off on foot than in your car.
10. ALWAYS put the majority of your money into the Dark Bank back at your hideout computer. At no point should you have more than $2,000 on you when you leave your hideout. Beyond buying lockpicks, dog meat, a spare crowbar, some car upgrades and rent, there is nothing in any of the neighborhoods that require having a ton of money on hand. If you need money to buy something at your hideout, just pull it back out of the Dark Bank. There is no cost in withdrawing any money from there.
11. This tip is shown in game occasionally on the loading screen, but I wanted to highlight it here. Tenant’s cannot hear you if you are on a different floor than them. If no tenant’s are on the same floor as you, go nuts; slam open doors, sprint around the house, throw a party. This helped me clear a lot of the bigger houses much faster with this knowledge.
12. There is no concept of item damage in this game, so don’t be afraid to yeet big items out of windows to make things easier when clearing a house. Funny enough, once you are outside of a property, NPC’s don’t care if you are carrying a big item. If a house has a lot of big items you want to take, throwing them over the fence and outside the property to pick up afterwards is a common tactic to use.
13. Tenant’s have a chance of noticing if an item is missing. The more items you take, the higher chance a tenant passing through a room you stole items from will notice. Same goes for doors and cabinet’s; if you have time, make sure you are closing any doors you open. Lastly, tenants can detect if you lockpicked your way through a door when they walk through it. Unless the door is critical for your escape route, always try to re-lock doors you came through.
14. This more of a note for the mode itself. Once you start a hardcore save, you cannot switch that save to an easier difficulty later on. I was a little disappointed after I finished the hardcore achievement and found you can’t turn it off for that save. Granted, Hardcore mode does state this before you start the save, I just wasn’t paying attention.
Cumulative Achievements
Note: I believe these achievements have to be done on a single save file. Some of them are pretty straightforward and won’t need many details unless I have a tip or clarification that needs to be pointed out.
I Like Stealing: Steal 250 items ———————————————————
Half a Thousand: Steal 500 items ——————————————————
Treasure Hunter: Dig 5 holes ————————————————————
Over the course of the game, there are leaf piles you can use a shovel to dig up. Normally, the dig spots are shown on your mini-map, however, if you are playing on Hardcore, they don’t show up. It would be easier to do this on any other mode besides Hardcore, but if you are stubborn, the first heist has a marked dig spot that refreshes every time you do the heist
Blackbay: Complete 20 lists on Blackbay ——————————————
Blackbay is the ebay for the thief world. As you play the game, you will notice some items you pickup have a green envelope next to it. That indicates that particular item is something that can be sold in a set on Blackbay for more than it typically sell’s for. My advice is after every job, before you sell anything to the pawnshop or sellbox at your house, if an item is tagged with that green envelope, shove it in your storage (First room on the right in your hideout). If an item doesn’t have a tag, you are free to sell it at the pawn shop. There are a total of 57 lists of items that can be sold and these are static, meaning they never change per play-through.
Important Note: There are some item’s in the game that DO NOT respawn after stealing them. Never assume you can just go back to a house to steal something again.
Blackbay Master: Complete 50 lists on Blackbay ——————————–
See above details.
Errand Boy: Complete 25 missions —————————————————
I’m not 100% sure if this relates to just story missions and/or Thief Contracts and Hell Neighbor missions. I unlocked this naturally by just playing the story mode and completing side missions along the way.
Knowledge: Get to level 25 ————————————————————–
If you complete all of the houses in the game, this shouldn’t be a problem. This popped for me towards the end of the game without any intentional grinding.
Carrier: Steal 25 big items —————————————————————
These are items you specifically have to carry back to your truck and put them in the back.
My Poor Trunk: Steal 75 big items —————————————————-
This may require a little grinding unless you absolutely clean out almost all house’s of all their big items.
A Month: Pass 30 in-game days ——————————————————–
This should unlock naturally as you play. There is no limit to sleeping, unless you are playing survival mode, but even then, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Thief Discoverer: Discover 200 stealable items ————————————
There are 315 item’s in the game, so this shouldn’t be a problem as long as you are somewhat thorough each job. Any time I found an item that didn’t show a discovered value, I picked it up. Picking up new items will count towards this number; you don’t have to sell the item for it to count. Big items have to be placed in the back of your truck to count.
Money Maker: Make a total of 175K$ ————————————————-
You should get this by completing the story mode and having the majority of the houses completed.
Safe Thief: 50K$ balance in Dark Bank ———————————————-
I know I mentioned it earlier, but you should never have more than $2,000 on you at any time. Always deposit any money over that amount into the Dark Bank back at your hideout computer. It’s protects your money from being spent if arrested and you decide to bail out, it grows over time and it’s free to withdraw whenever you need it.
Special Item: Steal a special item —————————————————–
See “So Special” achievement below for more details
So Special: Learn 8 special skills —————————————————–
There are a total of 11 special item’s that can be found in the game. Each one, when picked up, immediately gives you a special skill point to use for purple skills. Achievement unlocks after purchasing your 8th special skill. Below is a list of where each item is located:

Cumulative Achievements (cont’d)
Courier: Open 5 parcel lockers ———————————————————
Throughout the game, you will come across notes that will give you a parcel code (your phone will automatically record them after looking at the note). In each neighborhood, there is a red parcel locker (Madison – Center of the map, in front of 101 | Hillville – By the pawn shop on the side) Punch in the code you found and a locker will open. Below is a list of all the parcel codes and locations that I was able to find (there might be more):
Note: Codes only work if you find the note
(Parcel Code) – (Property\Location) – (Precise Location)

Thief Contract: Complete 10 thief contracts —————————————
Optional missions that can be picked up at your hideout computer. When accepted, these contracts generate a special loot that spawns at the specified location. You can only accept 1 at a time. If you need help finding a specific one, check the list below to see what property and location the item is found:

Mr. Lockpick: Open 150 locks ———————————————————-
Long Hand: Pickpocket 25 people —————————————————-
I had to grind this a bit at the end of the story, but it’s not that bad. You can pickpocket people that you have knocked out (except for some guards and cops) One thing to note about people you see walking around the neighborhoods is there seems to be a limit to certain NPC model’s each time you visit an area. If you pickpocket from a specific NPC, until you leave the map, you can’t pickpocket from that NPC again. Leaving the map and going back to the neighborhood should refresh the NPC to be pickpocketed from again.
Brutal Thief: Knock out 30 people (baton/sleeping gas/tranquilizer) ————
This should unlock naturally as you unlock more ways to knock people out. If you beat the game and still don’t have this done, simply buying 4 darts for your tranquilizer and going into a neighborhood to target 4 people should work. Rinse and repeat until you have the achievement.
Note: Some people have stated that only people knocked out on properties count towards this. The people on the sidewalks do not count. I can’t test that as I already had the achievement beforehand
Cumulative Achievements (cont’d)
Car Dealer: Steal all cars/vehicles —————————————————
There are a total of 8 you need to steal. 6 are cars and 2 are specific vehicles you can only find during certain heists. Below is a list of all cars/vehicles and where to find them:
- Mercenas-Benc – 106
- Rover Rider – 112
- Thunderdrive – 114
- Mercenas-Benc Sport – 204
- Prospect – 206
- Vintage Vixen GT – 202
- Golf Cart – Forestside Resort Heist
- Forklift – Warehouse Heist
Clever Eye: Find 10 hidden items —————————————————–
Scattered throughout the neighborhood’s are 10 small statues, 5 in each neighborhood. Picking one up gives you some money. Below is a list of where to find them:
Madison Hidden Statues
- 102 – Right of wooden swing
- 105 – Backyard on grill
- 116 – From spawn, turn left and look under stairs
- Madison – By fountain near 103
- Madison – Playground fence in front of 104
Hillville Hidden Statues
- 205 – Backyard behind shed
- 206 – Backyard behind big statue
- Hillville – Fountain behind 200
- Hillville – Fountain behind 207
- Hillville – Right of the parcel lockers
Madison St.: Complete all residences in Madison Street ———————-
For a house to be considered complete, you only need to complete the following tasks:
- Steal all noted loot from the RobTips app
- Complete all Bad Neighbor missions for that location
You do not have to steal anything else beyond the listed loot. Additionally, Thief Contracts are not counted for property completion. Also, keep in mind this includes the police station (116) which you can only access if you get arrested (specific to Madison Street only)
Hillville St.: Complete all residences in Hillville Street ————————-
See above achievement details.
Quick Work: Complete all payphone missions in Madison Street ————-
In the center of the map, in the park is a payphone. Walking near it will cause it to ring. As soon as you pick it up, a timer starts. Within the time limit, you have to steal a marked item at a specific residence without being spotted. I would recommend trying each payphone mission at least once blindly as it’s fun trying to be quick and stealthy at the same time. However, if you are having any trouble with them, the following tips should help:
- Prep the house. If you fail, you can try again immediately. The houses don’t change, nor does the item and location, so before you start the timer, go to the house and see what you can do to prep it. Unlock doors, turn off cameras, etc.
- Going along with the above tip, use the “Pass Time” mechanic to set yourself up at the best time where most tenant’s are gone, asleep or at least out of the rooms you need to pass through to get to the item.
- The mission completes as soon as you pick up the item so use that to your advantage. Some of the missions have some short timers so don’t be afraid to sprint to the object, as long as you aren’t spotted before you pick it up. You can deal with the consequences afterwards
- If you are struggling to complete a specific one, go gain some levels, upgrade or buy new tools. New tools mean new routes to reach the item.
- If all else fails and you are really having a tough time, than wait until you can buy the cloaking device. You need to be rank 5 in the thief app on your phone AND have the skill “Sneak Master” unlocked to purchase it. At $150,000 dollars though, it isn’t cheap, but it 100% trivializes the payphone missions.
There are a total of 11 payphone missions in Madison. Below is the list of locations and times in order:
- 105 – Toaster (White) – Upstairs kitchen counter – 7:00
- 103 – Leather Wallet – Backyard table – 3:00
- 107 – Gamestation Console – Upstairs living room on TV stand – 7:00
- 100 – Microwave – Open blue shipping container – 2:00
- 101 – Drawing Tablet – Storage Room (Key is on left nightstand in bedroom) – 7:00
- 108 – Gold Medal – Upstairs room with metal racks – 4:00
- 109 – Monitor – Office desk – 4:00
- 106 – Dex Camera – Basement – 5:00
- 115 – Multimeter – White cargo container in the back – 3:00
- 112 – Coffee Machine – Downstairs kitchen counter – 4:00
- 114 – High-end Headphones – Upstairs bedroom on nightstand – 4:00
Quick, Hard Work: Complete all payphone missions in Hillville Street ———-
Same as above, just a with a lot tougher houses. Payphone is located just past the pawn shop. With 6 in total, it will take some trial and error attempts to figure out the speediest way to complete each one:
- 206 – High-end Headphones – Upstairs directly to the right of the stairs – 3:00
- 204 – Samlong Tablet – Garage 2A – 2:00
- 207 – XCube Gaming Console – Living room TV stand – 5:00
- 201 – Blue Guitar – Bedroom – 4:00
- 203 – Coffee Machine – Ground floor kitchen counter – 4:00
- 202 – Telescope – Upstairs living room by window – 5:00
Collect All 5 Easter Eggs: Find all photo’s from Thief Simulator 1 —————–
There are 5 Polaroid camera pictures to find. Below is the location for all of them:
- Hideout – On the Electronics desk
- 107 – Office Cabinet
- 116 – Ground Floor – Turn right out of cell and next to cabinet
- 202 – Upstairs bedroom to the left of the stairs – Bottom Cabinet
- Central Bank Heist – Main Floor – Back left on a chair
StolenRewards: Get all rewards on StolenRewards ——————————
On your hideout computer, there is an app called StolenRewards. In here is a list of goals you can achieve, rewarding you with certain passive rewards, some of which that are incredibly beneficial. I was able to complete all of them by the time I finished the story mode. None of them are super difficult to complete and you should be able to get almost all of them done while doing the achievements alone.
Miscillaneous Achievements
So Hot it Burns: Sell a hot item ——————————————————-
This isn’t explained very well, but in the pawn shop every day, there is an item that is considered hot (Item in question is located on a pallet in the pawn shop, with a sign over it). If you sell this item to the pawn shop, it will go for triple what it normally sell’s for. My advice is to check the pawn shop before each job and see what the hot item is so you can keep an eye out for it.
GTA: Escape from a 3 star police chase ——————————————–
There are a few ways to trigger a 3 star police chase. A specific story mission Blowing up the cargo containers in Hillville is a guaranteed way to get it. If you happened to miss that or got caught, hitting a cop with your car will definitely do it (specifically a cop who is not in a police car). I managed to trigger it by smacking one with a crowbar, but I don’t know how reliable that way is.
The tricky part is getting away because a helicopter does get summoned shortly after the 3 star triggers and what’s worse is it start shooting you as well. If you are fast enough, just hiding in a garbage bin will work as long as no one saw you. Another tactic is running around the outskirts of the map, near the border until the cops lose sight of you. As soon as they do, you can step over the border and escape to your hideout.
Police Down: Take out a policeman/policewoman —————————–
This one will probably unlock if you do the above achievement. However, if you need a good way to do this, I found house 103 is a good place. Reason being is when the cop is called to investigate, 99% of the time, they will come in through the front gate.
1. Hop over the fence and get the owners attention (you need him to detect you so he call’s the cops).
2. Hit the owner with your baton so it knocks him out.
3. Now you need to hide near the front gate, specifically on the opposite side of where you hit the property owner.
4. Wait for the cop to open the gate and head over to the knocked out tenant.
5. Sneak up behind him quickly and smack the cop with your baton.
There is a good chance this will trigger a 3 star chase so be prepared to hide or run. Last note – For some reason, the cops at the police station do not count for this achievement. Some people said they do, but I could never get it to trigger that way.
Who am I?: Buy a ski mask ———————————————————
More than likely, you will unlock this earlier in the story BUT it’s not a requirement to progress the story. You will want this item any way; other wise if you get spotted during a job, people will recognize you and start putting up posters with your face. Cost’s $2,000 at the Steal Gear store.
House Flipper: Fix your house ——————————————————–
At your hideout on the computer, there is a button for House Renovator. In here, there is an option for $2,500 that will fix up your house.
Art Collector: Fill all places with painting’s in your hideout ———————
There are a total of 4 spots you can hang a painting in your hideout. This is just a matter of finding 4 paintings to steal, bringing them back to your hideout and manually hanging them in each spot. Specifically, these have to be the big paintings you need to throw in your truck’s trunk.
Suspicious Van: Find the kidnapper’s van —————————————–
As you play, sometimes in the parking lot’s, you will see a van. On the back of the van, you will either need to lockpick or blowtorch your way through the doors. Once open, there will be an item or 2 for you to grab. For this achievement, you are looking for the kidnapper’s note. Picking up the note will pop the achievement. It’s random for this to spawn so it could take multiple van’s before you find this.
Need for Speed: Buy the Shadowhawk GT —————————————–
After you buy the garage for your hideout, this car becomes available to purchase at the Car Service area for $25,000
I’M CELEBRATING: Get so drunk you can’t drink anymore ——————–
In your hideout in the kitchen, there is a beer bottle that cost $5 to drink from. Just keep clicking on the bottle until it won’t allow you to any more.
Dude, Get Sober: Steal an item while drunk —————————————–
You can do this in tandem with the above achievement. After you get drunk, drive out to a neighborhood and steal an item from any location. Easiest place is going to be 102 since no one is ever home there.
Survivalist: Survive a week on Survival Mode ————————————
This one really isn’t that bad. Survival mode sounds daunting, but it just adds a new mechanic that can for the most part be completely ignored, albeit with some in game penalties. In this mode (you can turn it on in the Gameplay settings), you now have a hunger, thirst and sleep bar. Additionally, rent now cost’s 4x what it normally does.
Now before you panic, this isn’t Minecraft’s hunger where if you go for too long without food, you die. In this game, if you are hungry, thirsty and/or tired, the only thing that happens is you get a carry weight and movement penalty. That’s it. On the flip side, if you are on top of keeping yourself full of food, water and sleep, you get bonus’s to those stats. (You can even exploit this to your advantage if you need a little extra carry weight in the middle of a job. Turn on Survival mode, open your phone app, drink and eat until your bars are full and boom; you have 5 kg’s of extra carry weight immediately) This mode add’s a new app to your phone where you can order food, water, energy drinks and sleep pills for some money. Additionally, in your hideout kitchen, there is a plate of food you can eat from for $25 and drinking from the beer bottle fills your thirst.
If you are like me and just want to get this for achievement purposes and then turn it off, it’s pretty simple to complete. Requirement of roughly $2,000:
1. Go into settings and turn on Survival Mode (Keep track of what day you started it on)
2. At your hideout, sleep in your bed for as long as you can
3. When you can no longer sleep, open your phone and purchase sleep pills until you clear your sleepiness bar.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you’ve gone 7 full days
5. On the 8th day, if the achievement hasn’t popped yet, travel to one of the maps and it should pop then.
