Welcome to our guide on how to earn all 8 replay achievements in the popular game Team Fortress 2, even those that were previously unobtainable. This guide will show you how to do so without using Steam Achievement Manager, and also includes information on how to get free items. Keep reading to become a master at TF2 in 2024 after the 64-bit update!
Disclaimer
Furthermore, it is no longer possible to obtain the Time For Your Close-Up, Mr. Hale achievement without a workaround because it relies on 32-bit software, which does not work with TF2 after the 64-bit update on April 18, 2024.
Luckily, there is no need to use SAM or any other third-party programs because there is still a method to obtain all these achievements. However, these methods can be considered cheating. Please use caution when obtaining these achievements if you are signed up for any Steam achievement tracker website, such as Astats, as these methods can be considered cheating and may result in a ban.
I am not responsible for any bans as a result of these workarounds.
This guide is for Windows only.
Preparation
You can download QuickTime from Apple’s official website here.[support.apple.com]
After you get the achievements, you can uninstall QuickTime.
That’s a Wrap
Save your very first replay.
Notes:
- Replays cannot be created in official “Casual” servers.
Press find a game in the top right of the screen and select “Community Servers”.
A window should pop up with thousands of servers. To sort by servers that support replays, press the small replay icon in the top left, which will place all replay-supported servers at the top.
Join any server from the list. Ping or player count is unimportant as this process takes less than a few minutes.
Once in, press F6 after a few seconds. There should be a confirmation pop-up that asks you to name your replay.
Name it whatever you like, or leave it as the default, and click save.
Once you see this popup, type “kill” in the console or simply die in the game and wait.
After a period of time, this pop-up should show.
After the replay finishes downloading, you should get the achievement.
We Can Fix It In Post
While watching a replay, press space bar to enter the editor.
Go back to the main menu and click the TV icon in the bottom right to access the replays menu.
Once in, click on the replay you just created. In the new menu, choose “Watch/Edit.”
When the replay loads, press the space bar. This opens the replay editor.
After you press the space bar, you should get the achievement.
Star of My Own Show (Item)
Spend some time editing a replay.
This achievement can be a bit finicky, as it took me a few tries to get it, but keep experimenting and you should eventually get it.
Select each class in the bottom-left at least once.
Press each button in the bottom-middle section at least once.
Press each button in the bottom-right section at least once. Some of these buttons open up menus with sliders; use every slider and playback the video once you have edited some of these values.
The free-cam menu has a slider at the bottom, which is just off-screen, so make sure you have also changed this value.
After spending a good amount of time in the editor and messing with all of the options, you should eventually get the achievement and the Director’s Vision.
Time For Your Close-Up, Mr. Hale
Render a replay into a movie.
This is where things start to get a little ugly. From now on, none of the methods have been thoroughly tested and may not work.
Notes:
- This step requires QuickTime. Please refer to the “Preparation” section.
- This achievement cannot be obtained without a workaround after the April 18, 2024 update, as the 64-bit version of TF2 is incompatible with QuickTime.
Exit TF2 and go to your Steam library. Right-click on TF2 and select “Properties.”
Click on “Installed Files” on the list and select “Browse”.
Open up the application named “tf.” Do not open the application named “tf_win64.”
Once TF2 opens up again, return to the replay menu and select your replay and click “Save To Movie.”
Leave all settings at default and click “Go!”
TF2 will load you into a new server. Wait for the replay to finish downloading.
After the replay finishes exporting, you should get the achievement.
YouTube Achievements (Item)
Achieve x YouTube™ views for your movie.
This method should work but requires that you have a rendered replay.
Note:
- These achievements cannot be obtained without a workaround after roughly 2015 because YouTube retired Data API v2, which is what TF2 relied on to track views on uploaded replays.
- This method could get you banned from Steam achievement trackers, such as Astats.
Close TF2 and go into your TF2 files again using the same method from before. Open the “tf” folder.
Open the “replay” folder.
Open the “client” folder.
Open the “movies” folder.
Right-click the .dmx file that relates to the replay file you created. If this was your first-ever replay, it should be “movie_10000.dmx.” I have only underlined the file I am using, so yours may differ.
Click on “Open with.”
Scroll until you see the option “Notepad” and select it. If “always use this app to open .dmx files” is checked, uncheck it. Click “Ok.”
Your file should look like this.
In the line that says “uploaded,” change the value to one. You will also need to add another line.
Copy this whole line of text, including the spaces, and paste it underneath the “uploaded” line.
After all of the modifications, the final file should look like this. Compare the underlines with yours and make the changes.
Save the file and re-open TF2. Once in, go back to the replay menu and click on your saved replay.
Your replay should look like this.
Once the replay opens, you should get 4 achievements simultaneously and receive the Frontline Field Recorder.
Conclusion
Please let me know if there are any issues.
Cheers!
