In this guide I will try cover all things you need for Steam controller.

Of course I did this on purpose for ease of beginners 🙂

Basics

What I think you must know before you use any controller with steam

Attention Mac users, to prevent any trouble in mac add The game&Steam from >System Settings>privacy&security>Bluetooth, Accessibility, Input Monitoring & Developer. In this way your steam controller will work like it’s in windows ( I didn’t tried other controllers with mac but I guess they will work in same way)
To connect your controller with steam whether is playstastion, xbox, nintando, generic, etc. controller watch this (Steam support over 200 gadget, whatever is your controller, it will work for your pc through Steam)

Troubleshoote

To quick fix controller not recognized on non-steam games watch this (of course you can make your own layout from the place he showed you, very important to know If you are going to name the game, just name the game same as it was released and it will show you hundreds of community layouts or simply if the game available on steam, find the APPID of the game on steamdb and add it)

To make your own trackpad protector, go to any store, buy any sticker fabric or carbon etc., cut 40mm circles(steam controller diameter is 40mm) and apply them on your trackpads.
