Welcome to our quick tutorial on setting up the online campaign mode for Star Wars Battlefront II in the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to play with friends over multiplayer. Let’s get started!
Intro
As well as this written guide, I have also made a YouTube video detailing how to get this working which uses the same instructions as below.
Main Instructions
[2] Once the map has loaded, open chat by hitting T (default) and from here, it is possible to enter any map of your choosing, including those from the campaign.
[3] To insert a map, use the command
- /admin /addmap {mapid}
If, for example, you want to play the Hoth campaign mission, you can do this by typing:
- /admin /addmap hot1g_c
Note than when using /addmap multiple times, it inserts the map as the next one relative to what is currently being played, so if you want to set up a playlist of maps you’ll need to enter the commands in reverse order.
- For instance if you wanted to play the first three ground missions in the campaign you would need to type:
- /admin /addmap kas1c_c
- /admin /addmap fel1c_c
- /admin /addmap myg1c_c
which would then play Mygeeto, then Felucia, then Kashyyyk campaign maps in that order.
If you’re unsure of what the map order is, you can use
- /admin /maps
to see the list of maps in the rotation.
If you’ve accidentally added a map where you didn’t mean to, you can undo this using:
- /admin /dropmap {map id code}
The full list of Map IDs for all of the campaign missions can be found at the end of the guide
[4] Once you have finished adding in your maps, you can then use
- /admin /endgame
to end the dummy map and start playing the campaign.
Extra Considerations
- The first thing you may notice when hosting the server, you may notice that the framerate is now limited to 30fps. This will only affect the host and all others joining the server will not be capped – this is normal behaviour
- When joining someone’s client, it’s possible that you may be assigned to the enemy team. This can be a lot of fun by itself but can result in a lot of things breaking! If you want to play a campaign co-op, then you can do this by forcing players to switch teams.
When hosting a server, each user is assigned an ID based on who is first to join the server. If we assume that the server host and one friend are on the server, then the host is always assigned ID 1 while the friend is ID 2.
By using the command:
- /admin /swap {id}
this will allow the other player to swap teams to the other side.
Usually, the server host will already be on the playable Republic/Empire side so usually the command in question is /admin /swap 2
If you are planning on having multiple friends play on a single session, you may need to keep a track of who has which ID which you can do by using:
- /admin /players
Take a note of their ID and then use that to perform any swaps.
- Not all maps are 100% compatible. The campaign maps were never really meant to be played in this manner, meaning that certain bugs and glitches can occur as well as game crashes in places. I haven’t tested all of these maps in Classic Collection, but in the original 2005 release there were some maps that definitely didn’t work. The list in the final chapter includes every campaign map ID and whether or not its compatible for multiplayer co-op.
If you want more information on console commands for hosting your own online campaign sessions or just in general, then this discussion from the original game should prove to be very useful:
