Sonic Adventure DX: How to get ‘Big The Cat’ Achievement if it is bugged.

When starting a play through, you want to talk to the colourful characters when you see them and that is only natural. However, in this steam version of the game, ‘Big The Cat’ Achievement is slightly bugged.

If you go through the game as Sonic/Tails and DO NOT TALK to BIG (The giant Purple cat with a fishing rod) you will get the achievement part way through the game after encountering him in a cut-scene.

If this worked for you, then congratulations, however if this achievement did not activate for you, then it is bugged. Please Read on.

So, you didn’t get it too huh? No worries, I got you. TL;DR at the bottom.

WARNING: DO NOT TALK TO BIG AT ALL. I cannot emphasize this enough, if you do, it will render the achievement broke again, and you will have do this all over again.

Right, where were we?

Create a new save file
Quit the game. Reload the game from your library and once you are through the warning messages and have skipped the intro cut-scene, push start. Then instead of continuing your current save file, create a new one.

SonicYou will start as sonic and must defeat the first chaos boss fight and then complete Emerald Coast Act 1. Then you will unlock tails, after the auto save, quit out and start game this time as Tails.

Tails
As Tails you need to do 3 levels, 2 bosses and 2 sub games, and a tiny bit of running around.

Note: As soon as you start I recommend going out into the street, go behind the Twinkle Park lift and down into the drain. Follow that around until you are under a hole in the ceiling, fly up and grab the boots. They allow Tails to fly faster.

Windy Valley Act 1
Go meet Sonic at Tails’s workshop in the Mystic Ruins. After the cut-scene Egg Man: Now you have to face Egg man’s hornet. Run and dodge, and when he slams into the ground, jump on his head, rinse and repeat. Grab the stone and head to Windy Valley Act 1 (to the right of the giant pond), Race sonic to the end using your flight as much as you can. Once you complete this, you have to head to the Casino-zone in Station Square next. Head back to the station and take the train and then once the train alights, exit through the stair way to the left of the platform stairs. Head to the Casino in the far left corner, fly up and hit the button and enter the building.

Casinopolis Act 1
Race Sonic to the end, again use your flight to bypass any hazards, nasty robots and to generally be quicker. Note when you are in the floaty zones if Sonic is ahead of you, don’t worry, find the top-most access vent in both sections and that will lead you where you need to go. After this we have the ice stone key appear in the alley, go retrieve it and then time to head back to the Mystic Forest via the train.

Icecap Act 1
Once you enter the Mystic Forest, hop off the train and head to the left where the wall just crumbled, carry the ice stone key with you and go into the hole. Follow the tunnel until you reach the blue door, place the stone at the entrance where prompted and go inside.

Your next mission is a snowboarding race against your pal sonic. Follow it through, keep calm and dodge icicles, use the ramps as they will help you move quicker. Do all of that and you will get to the bottom in first place. A dream sequence starts and you enter Angel Island, from the start fly to the left and get Tail’s other power up, then head around the pyramid to find the girl. Once the sequence is over, leave the area head to the Mystic Forest and head to the giant pond.

Knuckles and Chaos 4 Boss fights

• Knuckles: Before you reach the pond, Knuckles will come for you. This is a mini-boss encounter, just dodge and use your tailspin attack to get him. 3 hits and you win.
• Chaos 4: After the cut-scene you will face Chaos again on some Lilly pads. Just fly around, dodge his attacks, when he surfaces drop in-front of him and tail spin his face (you can jump on his head but can get hurt, so tailspin is more effective.) Do this 4 times and you will win. Once you have beaten Chaos, it’s time to head to Tail’s workshop to the left of the train station, just past the bridge and up the stairs.

Sky-chase Act 1
After the boss, head to the workshop and go after Egg-man’s ship. it’s on rails, so just shoort (hold to lock on shoot) down enemies and turrets until the end.

Jungle
Once you land, you can head to the jungle to find a chaos Emerald, after a bit of running about ( on right path after the river) You will find the emerald and be ported to a cave entrance. Enter the cave you will see the sand fall, just fly up to activate a switch and drop down and after the sand clears enter.

Sand Hill
Follow the goal posts to get through the sand hill level, once you get to the bottom you get the emerald. You will have a cut-scene play out where Tails meets Froggy and Big.

Congratulations!! You have earned the Big The Cat Achievement.
Note: If this does not work, complete the steps above and remember to create a NEW save file.

TL;DR

• Make New Save
• Complete Chaos 1 and Emerald Coast.
• Switch to Tails.
• Grab the upgrade in drain behind Twinkle Park
• Mystic Forest and Complete Windy Valley.
• Tails’s Workshop and Defeat Eggman.
• Complete Casinopolis in station square.
• Take blue key to Mystic forest cave
• Complete Snow Cap zone
• Face Knuckles
• Defeat Chaos
• Complete Sky Chase 1
• Go to Jungle and find emerald
• Complete Sand Hill
• Unlock achievement
