Welcome to the ultimate guide to raising your very own slugpup in Rain World! This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to unlock, find, tame, raise, train, and understand your new adorable companion.
Unlocking Slugpups
Before you can even think about raising a slugpup, you need to unlock them first. To do this, you’ll need to complete Gourmand’s Food Quest, which involves eating almost everything in the game. Keep an eye on the food tracker above your hunger to help you out. Once you’ve completed the food tracker, you need to get the Outer Expanse ending.
Finding Your Slugpup
Now that you’ve unlocked slugpups, it’s time to find one. Slugpups can be found in shelters in different regions, each with varying chances of finding them. For example, The Exterior has a low 5% chance, whereas Pipeyard and Shaded Citadel are easier regions to find them with 50% and 40% chances respectively. The Industrial Complex is the best region to find them, with a 25% chance and a high number of shelters. It’s worth noting that slugpups are only available in Survivor, Gourmand, and Hunter modes.
Taming Your Slugpup
When you first meet your slugpup, they’ll be afraid of you. To tame them, you can hold their hand (grab them) or give them food if they don’t let you grab them. After holding them, you can put them on your head by holding the grab button. It’s recommended that you do this as it won’t weigh you down. Then, take them to a shelter and sleep.
Raising Your Slugpup
After sheltering with your slugpup, you’ll notice a smaller food bar above yours. This is your slugpup’s food bar, and they need to be fed every cycle. Slugpups have food preferences, so experiment with different foods to see what they like. Feeding them something they don’t like will cause them to like you less. Slugpups cannot hold extra items when held. They might choose to take a nap when idle, and less energetic slugpups will do this more often, while energetic slugpups will tug on you.
Training Your Slugpup
You can train your slugpup to see certain enemies as threats and others as prey. Slugpups will more commonly kill enemies that you kill often. They can also kill enemies better than most players, even though they have the damage of a monk. Slugpups will move around like you, so avoid teaching them to jump straight into enemies.
You can also give your slugpup commands. If you jump while holding down, the slugpup will stay in their location. Jumping once without moving tells the slugpup to play with the player, and they’ll stay closer to you. Jumping while holding up tells the slugpup to stop playing.
Slugpup Personality Traits
Slugpups have six different personality traits: sympathy, bravery, energy, nervousness, aggression, and dominance. Sympathy affects aggression, and bravery affects nervousness, aggression, and dominance. Energetic slugpups want to hold pretty or shiny things and play more often, while less energetic slugpups nap more often. Nervousness is affected by bravery and energy, and nervous slugpups are anxious around other slugpups. Aggression is affected by energy, bravery, and sympathy and affects dominance. Dominance is affected by energy, bravery, and aggression, and dominant slugpups stick with other slugpups and pick up items more.
