I’ll show you some tips that worked very well for me, as well for some configuration for those that struggle very quickly with turns, keeping the pace or overall everything.
Before the rally
- Racing radiator – Keep the car cool at all times
- Racing carburator – Better performance
- Racing exhaust system (pipe and muffler) – Less weight
- Rally suspension kit installed (SEE BELOW FOR CONFIG. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING) – Better handling
- Tachometer – Time good gear shifts and prevent blowing a piston out
- Extra gauges – Monitor battery status
- Roll cage
- Bucket seat (driver only)
- Racing harness (the reason for the bucket seat also being mandatory)
- Have your car inspected
- No drag tires, all other allowed
You CAN get anything cosmetic, but make sure to remove those that can make extra weight, like body kits, spoilers and the window grille. You can keep the door and main stuff, I did not find any problem with keeping them personally.
If you know what to do with the rally suspension, skip this. Some people, myself included, do not know what the hell to set up the rally suspension values to. I have searched for many values, but one has stuck right to me for the rally, and it’s from the youtuber ItsVictorC, i’ll attach the video where he explains everything, after that, you should be done with that.

Now, for the A/F ratio, I like to set it to the usual safe level, 14.6∼ ish. Never had any problem in the rally with normal ratio.
And for the liquids, try and play it safe, I have them usually filled at normal amounts.
Now that your Satsuma is “rally-ready”, let’s actually get to the rally.
But wait…
Before signing up
- Be sober, you can celebrate if you do well, so don’t ♥♥♥♥ it up
- Have the helmet when signing, taking it off afterwards is okay
- Make sure you have all necessary parts installed in the car for the rally
- Make sure the engine does NOT have any issue before the rally
- Bring milk with you to fulfill thirst, and any food for hunger, just in case
And now, let’s go to the rally itself.
Hell begins
The configuration I use for driving are the following, although, tune them to your comfort:
Now, for the important stuff while on the dirt tracks.
Be careful around bumps
These can ruin your run, to prevent this, brake slightly before one, preventing you from steering like crazy or go flying. There are two “tops of the death” that I call on the first stage rally start, that if you do not brake or drive carefully, you run the risk of ruining your run, or even dying.
Memorize turns, practice makes master
Try to start turning a bit before the turn comes over, so your car is prepared for it, as well to maximize speed instead of driving like a grandma and slowing every turn… like I did first time I tried the rally.
Optimal speed, not overkill
Going TOO slow will make you not even appear on the top 16. Going TOO fast can get you killed. The optimal speed is between. For me, it was 3rd gear overall, specifically around 80 km/h (lowest) and 130 km/h (highest). Balance these out during turns, and if a turn seems very dangerous, don’t be afraid to lower to 2nd gear, just make sure to make up for the time lost on straight and plain roads.
Don’t push it fully
Don’t press the turn keys fully if not necessary, begin by tapping them slightly to smoothen the turning of the car, this way, you do not lose control, and perform better at the rally.
Persistence is key
Don’t give up. Seriously. If you concentrate enough, and maybe improve upon yourself with driving, you can even win the rally, Junior or Amateur class. You just need to believe in yourself, and instead of being mad at your mistakes, learn from them.
Map to watch out for certain parts on both stages:
End
If you did very well, you might end up winning!
Just remember, keep practicing, keyboard rally is possible, with enough patience with this punishing game.
Good luck.
