In this article, we will provide step-by-step instructions on how to prepare your GZ save data in order to receive bonuses in The Phantom Pain. Get ready to enhance your gaming experience with these simple tips!
Spoiler-Free Extraction List
- Ground Zeroes – 5 prisoners, not counting Chico and Paz.
- Eliminate the Renegade Threat – 2 prisoners + 2 special soldiers.
- Intel Operative Rescue – 1 very special soldier. Hard to miss.
- Classified Intel Acquisition – 3 prisoners + 2 special soldiers.
- Destroy the Anit-Air Emplacements – 4 prisoners.
- Déjà Vu – 1 special soldier. Not only is he incredibly well-hidden, the extraction only counts if a certain condition is met. Feel free to resort to the below hints if you’re having trouble finding him.
Hint #1:
The soldier is a Genome Soldier, not a US Marine.
Hint #2:
The soldier is an enemy, but he isn’t able to harm the player.
Hint #3:
The soldier is a part of a certain SCENE. - Jamais Vu – N/A; no prisoners or special soldiers.
Bonus Item Unlocks
- SV-Sneaking Suit – No requirement; just upload the save data.
- Gold Bionic Arm – Complete the main mission, “Ground Zeroes”.
- Solid Snake (Uniform) – Complete “Déjà Vu”. Unlock the mission by collecting every hidden XOF patch in the main mission.
Uploading Save Data
Once you download GZ save data in TPP, the prisoners and special soldiers you extracted in GZ will gradually join Diamond Dogs as the story progresses. If you’ve already progressed past certain points, they’ll show up after finishing any mission.
Similarly, the bonus items won’t be immediately available. You’ll have to meet the required unit levels and develop them like any other item.
Prisoner & Special Soldier Locations
I strongly recommend at least attempting to find every prisoner and special soldier listed above by yourself before reading further. All but one shouldn’t be terribly difficult to find.
Ground Zeroes
The prison to the east where Chico is located has four additional prisoners to extract.
These prisoners will show up in MGSV:TPP as Ochre Chameleon, Grizzly Hedgehog, Hungry Crocodile, and Wild Harrier.
An escapee is hidden in the northwest side of the west refugee camp. If you fail to extract him before contacting Chico, he’ll be captured and eventually executed around the east end of the same area. If you contact Paz, the escaped prisoner will simply disappear.
This prisoner will show up in MGSV:TPP as Gray Wallaby.
Eliminate the Renegade Threat
The prison where Chico and the four prisoners were located in the main mission houses two prisoners.
These prisoners will show up in MGSV:TPP as Blue Chameleon and Midnight Mastiff.
Instead of killing the two targets, extract them. Glaz is initially located in the admin building’s watchtower, and Palitz starts out near the warehouses. They’ll quickly move away from their starting positions, so it’s best to mark them as soon as possible. If you want, you can extract both targets by putting them onto a jeep and driving out of the mission area.
Glaz and Palitz will show up in MGSV:TPP as Eye and Finger. Strangely, their monikers are swapped in TPP, which may or may not be a mistake.
Intel Operative Rescue
This VIP will show up in MGSV:TPP as Hideo. He can be recruited in TPP without needing to finish this mission in GZ, but only much later. Because of his excellent abilities, it’s great to have him join Diamond Dogs very early on.
Classified Intel Acquisition
This time, there’s 3 prisoners.
These prisoners will show up in MGSV:TPP as Frigid Mongoose, Hunting Stallion, and Assassin Harrier.
Upon contacting the agent, wait for him to wake up and follow him to the warehouse section. He’ll eventually be approached by a bald marine who will reveal the info provided by the agent is a trap. After interrogating the bald marine to get the real tape, extract him and the agent.
The agent and bald marine will show up in MGSV:TPP as Mad Wallaby and Wild Stallion.
Destroy the Anti-Air Emplacements
Like last time, there’s 3 prisoners. Watch out for mines to the north.
These prisoners will show up in MGSV:TPP as Night Tree Frog, Pirate Capybara, and Roaring Capybara.
You can find him in the admin building’s boiler room.
This prisoner will show up in MGSV:TPP as Bitter Centipede.
Déjà Vu
The soldier that gets blown out of the tank after recreating the tank SCENE is actually unique. However, you need to extract him with either the Solid Snake or Cyborg Ninja skin equipped. Because of this, he’s extremely easy to miss.
This soldier will show up in MGSV:TPP as Crying Sturgeon.
