Are you tired of encountering menu glitches in Lair Land Story? Look no further! In this gaming guide, we’ll show you how to fix these pesky glitches without spoiling any surprises in the game. Read on to find out how to navigate the menus seamlessly.
the purpose
The good news is, you can. It’s not even that hard. There are 29 important menu fixes; that’s all that’s required to make the game playable. 29, out of 16,380 total lines, but they’re almost all the lines that give the player choice over the story.
It’s a real shame that a game with so much depth, such an interesting story, such enjoyable characters, and a really fun game loop that requires experimentation, is made opaque by such a fixable issue.
A few things to be aware of, before you start.
First, this requires changing a game file; it’s a text file and easy to edit or restore, but you’ll need to be careful and thoughtful in the process.
Second, this is not a fix for intention or mechanics– I don’t have any more idea than you do what triggers a specific set of strings to display, or calls one ending over another, or why a character gets mad at one choice and not the other (or even if they mechanically really do lose or gain points). None of that is available in the translation file. I just did my best based on context and the original text, translated as best I could.
Third, some spoilers are inevitable. I’ve done my best to divide this into two parts, the absolutely crucial menu stuff that should contain pretty minimal spoilers or at least not make sense out of context, and the stuff with somewhat more spoilers that supports the crucial menu stuff.
Fourth, this is really over-written. The basic process is super simple (open a file, change some text in it, save). But I wanted to hold your hand through it, because I know folks who would need that, and who would love a game like this.
Note: I can’t really figure out how to upload a file or I’d just upload mine with all my personal changes, but if you can, and want to, and it’s okay with whatever TOS, feel free. Also, this is my first guide, I had to do it because I was so annoyed that a friend and I put 40+ hours each into this game before I realized I could just fix that stuff. I hope this saves YOU some frustration and effort, and makes for a more fun experience.
Also, I found this, which would have been really nice my second through fourth play-throughs.
This is alt and ctrl on the keyboard.
tools and getting started
You can also import it into a spreadsheet (I’ve tested Google sheets), make your changes to the choice text, and then export it as a tab-separated .txt file when you’re ready to use it. This would be my recommended method if you have any concerns at all about messing up tabs and nulls.
To find the files to edit, go to your LLS library page, click the gear, “manage”, and then “browse local files”. Navigate to \Lair Land Story Remake Edition_Data\StreamingAssets\Data. Back up this entire folder. Just back it up, you’ll be glad later. Now pick the file that ends in _en.txt and make a duplicate of it. Rename it to _en-original.txt; you won’t touch it again unless you need to compare your edited version to the original, or restore your original.
You’re ready.
simple version
Note that this doesn’t really fix things downstream from that menu for coherency, because that’s a bigger task. With this minimal fix, I just did my best to stay faithful to the original text of each menu item. And I had to use google translate and a friend’s skills.
Open up EventTxt_en.txt (not your extra original copy). Copy-paste the code block below into a new txt file. Then, for each line, go to the given line number in your _en.txt file. Replace that line with the one I’ve provided, either entirely, or just the text after each number (11 or 12 usually), if you prefer, or are using a spreadsheet.
In the first line, 2194 is the line number; you’ll use that to find the line to convert. You won’t copy paste that or the “->” in, you’ll start with the block number, 1004, flush left.
Use common sense, and look at both lines before you change anything; it should look similar except that the original text is a duplicate of an earlier menu item. I’m human and typo too.
The tabs between each element are required. Don’t mess with those if you’re pasting the whole line. And be careful not to delete them if you’re just pasting in the choice text.
If you want to check my translation, or translate it yourself, you can open up the _XX.txt file of your chosen language, and go to the same line number, and you’ll find the same line in that language.

You can also fix a number of double spaces scattered throughout using find and replace. I personally also went through and changed “God” to “Goddess” (or “ugh” or whatever), because immersion. I only spotted two typos — a capitalized “If” and (near Fay’s “study humans” convo) the word “information” is misspelled.
Hope this gets you started playing the game properly, and maybe encourages the game maker to fix this. And that you have fun!

Once you’ve identified a line you want to change, note the line number provided by your text editor and the reference number if there is one (“ch_0000”). Look this up in the _jp file, translate it, then copy the text back into your _en file next to the proper choice number (usually 11 and 12). Again, be sure to preserve all tabs, don’t delete them by accident.
You can test if this process is working and how it works by searching for Herol’s “been two months” line, it’s around line 2025. Change “two” to “ten” or “a million” or something, save, and start a new game. The text will be changed. Note it will not change “on the fly”. You have to close the game and reopen it for changes to take effect.
To undo/revert all your edits, just delete your edited file and restore your backed-up original file. Worst case, uninstall and reinstall, AFTER BACKING UP YOUR SAVE FILES.
Have fun!
