Welcome to the ultimate guide for obtaining 100% achievements in Horizon Forbidden West! In this guide, we will cover all achievements in the base game, as well as those in the Burning Shores and New Game+ DLCs. For your first playthrough, you can choose any difficulty you prefer. However, to obtain all achievements, a New Game+ playthrough on Ultra Hard will be necessary. Let’s dive in and conquer all the challenges Horizon Forbidden West has to offer!

One Missable
80 achievements, 1 is missable.
There are a total of 43 Machines in Horizon Forbidden West. Most of them can be found in the Wild or in the Arena with the exception of:
– Specter[horizon.fandom.com] (only appear during story missions and Kotallo’s quest)
– Specter Prime[horizon.fandom.com] (ONLY appears on the final Main Story Quest “Singularity”).
Even if you can find the other machines after you finish the game, I would recommend you to scan a machine everytime you see that is a new one that you never saw before. This will make you save time searching for a specific machine.
Full list of machines that count is in Combat & Machines section👀
Story
If you complete all main missions you will complete all the achievements above.

In order to not overcomplicate this guide, this is basically what you need to do to get the achievements above:

Main Quest #3: To The Brink & All 4 Melee Pits Done

Level Ups & Skills
Reached Level 30
Reached Level 50
Reached Level 60 (DLC)
All New Skills Learned (DLC)
Learned all new skills in the Burning Shores.
Down here it’s an image of the skills trees. Basically, unlock all nodes and you will have both skill achievements above unlocked.
Suggestion: As you progress on the Melee Fighting Pits[horizon.fandom.com], you should unlock all the skill nodes on the Warrior skill tree. It is recommended to focus on this one alone from the beginning. You will have more than enough points later on to upgrade other trees.
While grinding for the achievements above you will most likely get this one.
Valor Surges are a brand new type of ability that you can unlock. Each Skill Tree has 2 different Valor Surges you can get, though you can only ever have 1 equipped at a time. To unlock a surge, you have to purchase the skills on branches directly connected to it. Each Valor Surge can be further upgraded after unlocking it for a total of 3 times, also using skill points.
Combat & Machines
First of all, in the game there are 6 elemental states:
- Brittle: inflicted with Frost attacks;
- Burning: inflicted with Fire attacks;
- Corroding: inflicted with Acid attacks;
- Drenched: inflicted with Purgewater attacks;
- Shocked: inflicted with Shock attacks;
- Plasma Blast: inflicted with Plasma attacks.
Try all of them!
During your gameplay, damaging specific machine body parts will make them drop components or heavy weapons. You will get these achievements easily while playing normally.
For melee combat, you will most likely get this achievement while grinding for Defeated the Enduring achievement.
Try to be stealth at least 10 times in the game.
(I know it’s hard for some of you)
Overridding machines is something that can help you a lot during the game. Some to mount, others to use in battle. You won’t be able to override all machine types right away and will have to unlock more by completing Cauldrons.
To conclude this section, we have the general achievements for the different types of machines.
DON’T FORGET THE MISSABLE ONE
Basically, kill and scan every type of machine in the game.
The missable achievement is explained at the beginning of the guide.
Decided to put it there since it’s the one you will probably need to pay attention. The rest of the achievements you can do any time.
You can access the list of machines already scanned in-game.

Earned at least a Quarter Stripe mark in all three trials at all Hunting Grounds.
For these achievements you need to “complete” the following objectives:

Besides the pairs of achievements above, there are a couple more achievements related to “secondary objectives” in the open world:
For these ones you need to “complete” the following objectives:

There is also an achievement that requires you to complete all 4 Melee Pits. You’ll need to unlock all 8 melee combos/skills in the Warrior tree to complete all Pits. After completing all those challenges in the Melee Pits, you will be able to face that Melee Pit’s “Pit Master”.
You will need to get a mark from the fighting pits from each of the Tenakth clans, which mean that you have beaten that clan’s pit and Pit Master. The game will only allow you to fight The Enduring after beating every Melee Pit completely.
You also have a little board game to play. And you need to win it against 2 different players.
For this one, you need to go to a high place to be able to complete a long glide.
To finish this section, you also have an achievement for different collectables.
Equipment
Firstly, there are some achievements about weapon and outfit upgrades. Use the workbench to do it.
Pouches also need to get upgraded.
All type of pouches:
- Food Pouches increase the number of food items you can carry;
- Potions Pouches increase the overall number of potions you can hold;
- Resource Pouches increase the number of several different resources you can carry;
- Trap Pouches increase the number of traps you can carry;
- Ammo Pouches increase the amount of that type of ammo you can carry.
There is an achievement for coils too. Coils are items you can socket in weapons to increase specific stats, similar to runes or gemstones in other games. To open coil slots you need to upgrade your weapons.
Weapon Techniques have one too. These techniques are special abilities you can learn via the Skill Trees.
And, if you are that person that likes to customize your outfits with the colors you like. There is also an achievement for you.

Basically, complete:
- The Stars in Their Eyes, For His Amusement and His Final Act story missions;
- The Splinter Within and In His Wake side quests.
Specifically:
- To the Burning Shores
- Heaven and Earth
- The Stars in Their Eyes
- For His Amusement
- His Final Act
- Epilogue
- The Splinter Within
- In His Wake
- A Friend in the Dark
Burning Shores DLC Miscellaneous I
While completing all quests, don’t forget to scan all the machines that you have never seen before. There are 4 DLC machines:
- Stingspawn – first encountered in the story mission To the Burning Shores
- Bilegut – first encountered in the story mission To the Burning Shores
- Waterwing – first encountered in the story mission For His Amusement
- Horus – ONLY ENCOUNTERED IN HIS FINAL ACT MISSION
Brimshine is a new type of mineral fragment that can be found scattered throughout the Burning Shores. You can use your focus to try and spot Brimshine while looking around, but for the most part, you will just come across it. You must purchase one outfit and one weapon from the vendors in Fleet’s End. You can also use Brimshine and Metal Shards to purchase a specific elite coil or weave in Fleet’s End, or, you can get coils and weaves from defeating machines.
TIP: If you don’t want to spend Brimshine in one outfit and one weapon, try to save your game before making your purchase! After earning the achievement, reload the game you saved.
After getting the Specter Gauntlet in the story mission The Stars in Their Eyes and obtaining the Railgun component by looting Pirik’s body in the side quest In His Wake, you will need to go to Fleet’s End. There you will have to use a workbench to upgrade the Specter Gauntlet.
The main entrance is not accessible. Follow the valley outside the main door to the northeast, you will find a cave entrance a short distance away in an area surrounded by lava.
Collect 5 Pangea Dinosaur Figurines. These unlock the ability to answer quiz questions at 5 terminals located in the central area of Pange Park. You can easily find the answers to the quiz questions in the Notebook entry for each figurine, located under the section of Collectibles.
In order:
- 6837
- 4331
- 378
- 785
- 1051
7 Delver Trinkets that you can find at hidden sites around the map. Once you collect all of them, a new quest will automatically start named The Delver’s Trove. The achievement will pop once you find and open the trove.
There are a total of 6 Aerial Captures. The 6th will just appear after you recover the other ones. For those, you need to find a scannable box(pulsing purple circle using focus) to unlock a nearby flight path in the sky. The quest of the 6th Aerial Capture will automatically start after you finish all the other five. The achievement will be completed after completing this quest.
Burning Shores DLC Miscellaneous II
If you do no already own Knockdown Sharpshot Bow, you can purchase it from the Hunter vendor in Barren Light. Have Machine Grapple Strike skill unlocked(Hunter skill tree). After you knock down a machine, run close to it, jump and immediately use your grapple tool. You will then be prompted to complete the move. Don’t forget that this must be done on 5 different enemy types in order to complete the achievement. Smaller enemies are easier to do this(Burrowers, Chargers, Fanghorns, Leaplashers, Scroungers).
Specter Gauntlet weapon and Glide Targeting(Hunter skill tree) skill are needed. Use your flying mount to get to a good position above enemies. Dismount it and immediately activate your Shieldwing to glide over the enemies. Aim and shoot with the Specter Gauntlet on the enemies below. Basically, destroy 5 enemies while you still in the air. And, of course, doing this in weaker machines is easier.
Easy to understand what to do. If you have any difficulty getting this kills, check their spawn locations in the map. The statistics section in the notebook can also help you to know how many kills you have for each type of machine.
New Game +
Only 1 NewGame+ playthrough is needed. If you play it on Ultra Hard difficulty you will get both achievements above. I recommend you to finish all the other achievements before going for NewGame+. If you do that, it will be easier to play on Ultra Hard. Upgrades, skills, level, items, everything will be helpful for you NewGame+ Ultra Hard playthrough. It will take you way less time, especially if you focus only on the main story.
You need to buy specific items using Champion’s Tokens. You receive those tokens when you complete main story missions, side quests, some open world missions,etc. You can see how many tokens you receive by completing a quest.
