This article is a walkthru for the game “Port Of Peril” in Tin Man Games’ “FF Classics” series. It provides tips and strategies for completing the game and earning achievements.
Intro.
The game starts out as a general treasure-hunting expedition, but evolves into a quest to defeat (again) the evil night-prince, zanbar bone, who has returned to threaten Allansia.
It will be necessary to travel around Allansia to join forces with the good wizards Yaztromo and Nicodemus, before the final confrontation with zanbar and his skeleton army.
Another classic mission for the Analand Sorceress….
Stats.
Some of the opponents you will face later on seem quite daunting but there are some very generous skill bonuses on the optimum route and, if you survive the easier battles early on, some generous stamina gains.
The greater challenge is finding the correct route. Many wrong turns are punished with either severe penalties to your stats. or some rather cheap instadeath endings.
There is also a random-roll gamble required to gain an essential item late on, altho the odds are weighted reasonably in your favour.
In Adventurer mode it is not too difficult, providing your starting skill & luck are good.
In Hardcore Hero mode the stats are calculated differently to usual. Your skill and also luck are calculated by 1d6 + 4 and your stamina is calculated by 2d6 +8.
Therefore, you will require maximum skill and luck of 10, plus good stamina to have a decent chance.
In both modes choose the potion of fortune, as there is a critical luck test late on. Use the potion immediately before this to improve your odds.
Steam Achievements.
Three are self-explanatory: Free-read win, Adventurer win & Hardcore Hero win. Simply follow this guide to complete the quest in each mode.
Three of the other achievements, confusingly all called Cameo, can also be completed during this winning walkthru. They are indicated in the walkthru where they occur.
The remaining achievement, also called Cameo, (work as a deckhand for a famous fisherman) requires only a minor detour from the optimum route and is unlocked as follows:
