This is a walkthrough which describes how the endings in Fatal Falls can be achieved. It contains spoilers. This guide does not explain how the achievements can be unlocked!
Introduction
Every time a dialogue option, action or inaction influences the game’s ending, you see three asterisks. ***This is an example.***
Chapter 1: Arrival at The Grand Elysium hotel
1. Walk to the reception desk and talk to Mr. Edwards. Choose the following dialogue option:
Hello, I have a reserveration for a single room for three nights. My name is <your Steam name>.
After Mr. Edwards prepares your keycard, he will tell you your room number. Pay attention and remember it. It’s currently always either 100, 101, 102 or 103. Your room number, including various other information, will be saved in the save data. When the dialogue is finished, pick up the keycard on the reception desk.
Next, go to the grand piano behind you and talk to the woman standing there. Choose the following dialogue options:
- You: Do you play the piano?
- Sophia: Yes, I am a pianist. I’ve been playing the piano since my childhood.
- You: Mind if I listen to you play for a while?
She won’t play immediately but take you to the bar instead. At the bar she will ask you various personal questions. Don’t get annoyed and scare her away, answer all of the questions. Here’s how the dialogue could go:
- Sophia: So, tell me about yourself. What do you do for a living?
- You: Umm, just a normal nine-to-five-job.
- Sophia: I see. As I said, I am a professional pianist (lie)
- Sophia: You have … friends, right? (this will depend on your Steam friend count)
- You: Umm, yeah… How do you know?
- Sophia: I can read people quite well.
- Sophia: Are you in a relationship?
- You: Yes, I am in a relationship.
- Sophia: Okay. Please excuse all the questions. […]
- Sophia: Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
- You: Hmm, something in between.
- Sophia: How are things going for you financially at the moment?
- You: Excellent. I can’t complain.
Next, she’ll ask you whether you are or have ever been suicidal. Your reply does not influence the story but if you answered yes please seek help in real life. She will reveal that she’s a police officer in plain clothes and investigating the hotel at the moment. Sophia suspects that the hotel targets mentally ill people but isn’t sure what the actual goal is. When she asks if you can understand her answer yes. Finally, she’ll give you the last two digits of the code for the door leading you to the employee area. This door is located next to the bar:
She gives you two possibilities for the last digit, one of these is always correct. Note: Brute-forcing the 4-digit code to avoid gathering the other clues is possible but not recommended.
After talking to Sophia, use the elevator and go to the ninth floor. You’ll see a man named Leonard very close to the railing there, approach him. A dialogue will begin. The dialogue can have three possible outcomes:
- You choose terrible, reckless dialogue options, and Leonard jumps.
- You choose neutral or dismissive options, and Leonard ends the conversation without sharing any clues.
- You choose empathetic and supportive options, and Leonard shares the first digit of the code.
Of course, we choose appropriate options to get the first digit. By approaching the conversation with empathy, you’ll not only save Leonard for now but also uncover the first code digit. Here’s how the conversation could go off:
- You: S-Sir… Why are you standing there? Can I be of any help to you?
- Leonard: Who are you? Why do you care? Leave me alone. I can’t stand this anymore!
- You: My name is <your Steam name>. I’m staying here at the hotel. I just… I saw you, and I couldn’t walk away.
- You: What’s your name?
- Leonard: Leonard.
- You: Listen to me, Leonard. Whatever you’re going through right now, DON’T JUMP!
- Leonard: Sigh… Everything’s a mess. My life is a mess. I’ve got nothing left. No one would even miss me.
- You: Why is your life a mess? What happened?
- Leonard: I’m broke, divorced, lonely, homeless. I have nothing to lose. Life is cruel and I am sick of it!
- You: Why are you broke?
- Leonard: I’m suffering from a gambling addiction and lost all my money.
- You: Have you ever tried therapy?
- Leonard: I don’t trust therapists. I’ve done eight therapies. I am beyond treatment.
Leonard will proceed to reveal the first code digit. Remember it! Leonard promises you that he won’t jump.
Use the elevator and go to the first floor. Walk to your room’s door and interact with the keycard device next to it. The door will open. Enter your room and close the door behind you. Interact with the bed and wait until the short cutscene finishes. Day 2 will start. Use the elevator and go to the ground floor. Check three possible locations for a scrap of paper:
- The leftmost dumpster outside
- The reception desk
- The waste basket in the men’s lavatory
Note: This clue’s location is randomized every time this chapter is loaded.
Open your inventory (default key: TAB) and hover on the scrap of paper. It will reveal the second digit. You should now have all of the four digits and can proceed to the employee area.
When entering the employee area and walking towards the spiral staircase, a furious Mr. Edwards will inform you that you shouldn’t be in this area of the hotel. In the second chapter, you’ll see why. He will start chasing you. ***Whether you get caught or not influences the game’s ending.***
If you don’t want to get caught run down and then straight. Avoid the obstacles and run towards the double door. You should have plenty of time since Mr. Edwards isn’t a very athletic receptionist. Suddenly, you find yourself talking to a psychologist.
If you do want to get caught, just stand still and wait until he catches and threatens you. Chapter 2 loads immediately, skipping over a long dialogue with a psychologist.
First psychologist dialogue
Not only does your answer completely alter the course of the discussion, ***it also influences the game’s ending.*** – skip to the respective sections for chapter 3 to see how.
Chapter 2: The gritty sewers
First, pick up the crowbar:
Proceed by walking straight and turn right. Your crowbar will be able to destroy the old metal rods. In the passage you’ll see the first clue for the pattern lock, write it down. All of the clues have the same structure – “<Position of the code digit> : <Code digit>“. So “1 : 7” means that the first digit of the code is 7.
When returning to the tunnel, turn right and destroy the planks with your crowbar. Walk further until you see debris, there’s an important clue:
Walk straight and turn left at the next junction (*). This leads you into several rooms. In one of the rooms there are barrels. Another clue is on one of them:
Walk out of the rooms and turn right. On a wooden box you’ll find yet another hint:
Now return to the junction where you headed left (*, see above) and walk straight to the end of the tunnel system instead. You’ll find several dumpsters there. Head left and continue exploring the rooms until you walk down and see the final clue on a pipe:
Having the five clues means you can unlock the door ahead of you. Interacting with the device opens a panel with an Android-style pattern lock. The dots simply represent digits:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
Unlocking the door reveals a hidden hangar-like room filled with disturbing content. This room serves as a grim confirmation that the hotel is not just a passive observer but an active participant in its guests’ downfall. When entering the room, unsettling piano music starts playing. You will not be able to return to the other parts of the sewer system now – it is recommended to save the game before if you want to explore the area or unlock achievements!
After about two minutes, Mr. Edwards is back and has a body on his shoulders. ***Whether you get caught by him influences the game’s ending.*** If you don’t want to get caught hide from him, e.g. by hiding behind the refrigerators. Wait until he unlocks the door on the other side of the room and until he is completely gone (important!). Walk through this door, you will be arrested by several SWAT officers.
Otherwise, if you do want to get caught just stand still after having entered the room.
Second psychologist dialogue
Chapter 3A: Strength
- You were not caught by Mr. Edwards a single time.
- In the first psychologist dialogue, you did not answer that you are afraid of death.
This level is the only way to unlock the single good ending of the game, bringing justice to the hotel’s countless victims. It is a long interrogation.
The interrogation only has a few set of answers that unlock the good ending. One of them is as follows (note: these are only your answers, they are ordered!):
- It wasn’t just a hotel. It was a trap, a prison designed to target vulnerable, mentally ill people. They lured us in, exploited our weaknesses…
- The receptionist, Stephen Edwards. He’s been part of it since the beginning. I recorded him in the… room. The room in the underground.
- I DO have evidence. Sophia, a police officer, can testify to everything!
- (Answer doesn’t matter) Never mind… Just my imagination. I haven’t slept much…
- Completely impossible that you investigated the hotel. There is evidence <b>everywhere</b> in the underground. Everywhere.
- I don’t have all the answers, but I know what I saw, and I know I’m not the only one.
- I think they are mentally unstable anyway.
- Listen, officer. I know I lack certain… crucial information. However, I can assure you that everything I’ve seen, recorded… witnessed – all of it was real. OR I was in a stressful situation. Can you blame me?
- I spoke to him on the hotel roof.
- Hmm, what else was on the recordings?
- And what happens now?
The good ending, Strength, will unlock.
Third psychologist dialogue
Chapter 3B: The Dead Elysium
- You were caught by Mr. Edwards once. OR
- In the first psychologist dialogue, you answered that you are afraid of death.
In the last chapter, you revisit the now-deteriorated hotel from Chapter 1. The surroundings are warped and decayed, symbolizing the protagonist’s deteriorating mental state. As you navigate the ruined halls, you’re haunted by visions which reveal important information and fill plot holes. There are no dialogue choices here, simply head to the rear of the lobby and watch the cutscenes.
Chapter 3C: Fool’s Errand
- You were caught by Mr. Edwards at least twice.
In this ending, the protagonist finds themselves in a maze which consists of huge walls with skulls. Here’s the solution:
At the end you get the chance to talk to an alternate version of Sophia. Finish the dialogue to unlock this ending.
