Are you looking for the ultimate support build in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Look no further than the Mage of Fumes! By combining the warfare vocation with skills from Mage, trickster, and sorcerer, you’ll have access to powerful curative magic and fumes to both support and deal damage. This build also allows you to command and enable your Pawns to tank and deal massive damage. Get ready to be a true support commander in the game with this build.
Character Concept
This is a fully support build hybrid between Mage and trickster aimed at your main character as pawns cannot use warfare vocation. This build porpuse is to enable and command youy pawns at battle. Align the utility and buff skills from the trickster with the healing and buff from the mage. You will have a great amount of skill to choose from. DOuble healing with damage buff for pawns and a DPS skills, No DPS skill with 2 buffs and 1 healing. Defense dps and buff. This builds allows you to do all of that.
I created this character while trying to make trickster more fun, i abandoned the tank aspect of the trickster and focused in the utilitarian aspect. The only moment we will want to aggro mob is when one of our pawns is dawn, so we can use our clone/effigy to draw attention while we revive then.
Character Apperance and race
This character can be of any race as mages come from various sizes and forms.
Leveling up and stat Spread
This game stats and leveling system is a little different from more traditional RPGs, the vocation you have while leveling up will dettermine which attributes will be increase more or less. For example If you level up as a mage more magick will increase and less strength, and if you level up as warrior more strngth and less magick but ultimately this won’t affect you character so much. I recomend leveling up in the following order if you want to have access to all skills in this build.
Mage 1 >> Mage 9 >> Sorcerer 1 >> Sorcerer 5 >> Trickster 1 >> trickster 9 > Warfare
Also as we are using WARFARE as our main vocation for most part of the game we will need to go to vulcano island and soons as possible.
Weapon Skills
For weapon skill we have a lot of options, and that’s the neat part of this build as a support this two vocations we are using offer us a lot.
Damage and Heal
One of the suggestions is to use a damage skill as levin paired with the trickster pawn buff and a healing skill to maintain your pawns. The beneffit of this combination is that we are able to deal some damage and we can more optimaly compensate for the aromatic life drain our pawns will receive.
Damage and Buff
Considering that mage already has a form of healing by the Anodyne skill you can go with another buff my favorite in this case is Paladium, but Halidom and Celerity are also good alternativies.
The complete support choice
Dish compleately the damage and go full buff and support, no wrong here you can deal damage with auto atacks and have the maximum healing and damage buff potential for you pawns.
Skills Overview
Argent Succor
Good boost healing for when you tank “accidentaly” get blown into some dragons meteor, also the skills keeps on healing for a while ideal for really strong enemies.
Aromatic Rally
This is our core skill from the trickster vocation and the main advantage of this build, this skill simply turns you pwans into DAMAGE GODs, i’m still not sure how much is the increase but the difference is incredible. Is worth noticing that this skill will also make your pawns lose health over time, in a trickster this can be a problem but we are not tricksters, are we?
Celerity
This is a good buff speacily if you party consist in mostly meele pawns, this skill increses the move and atack speed for everyone it touches. Thiefs and Warriors get increasily strong if affected by this skill.
Halidom
Halidom is almost a “oh ♥♥♥♥” button, removing debilitating effects can be extremely helpfull for stronger fights.
High Levin
Hight levin is here as a example of damage skill, and because I HATE harpies and levin drops then out of the sky easily. But you can use any of the mage available damage skills whatever suits your playstyle better.
Paladium
Paladium is a overall strong buff, it creates a shield that blocks the next 3 atacks giving your pawns extra defence and making your heals less necessary. Also if your party have a lot of mages it can prevent their cast to be interrupted by atacks.
Core Skills
Warfare allow us to take all core skills in the game so there is no reason not to go all the skill from mage and trickster.
Quick Overview
Drifiting Brume
This is a very situational skill, I recomend only using this one when you have your main tank downed, you can invoke the clone/effigy and taunt the enemies so you have time to revive your tank making your a second tank if needed.
Effigial Quickburn
This will help a lot when you have to emergency tank, without this one takes too long to create a clone/effigy.
Focused Bolt
This is a good buf for your auto atacks and if you decide to go full support on your weapons skill i recomend always using this skill to deal damage.
Levitate
Best utility skill in the game, this can take you out of bad positioning, can make you out of enemies range, can help you get loot and definetily a MUST tool for exploring.
Mendim Vapor
Another skill that will be usefull if you need to emergency tank, idealy you will never need to realocate the clone with this build but things happen sometimes.
Quickspell
This is addictive, speend stamina to make your spell go out quickly, i use all the time just useful.
Trailing Aroma
Another skill that will be usefull if you need to emergency tank, allows you to make distance of your clone, this can be helpfull to scape desperate situations drop your clone and run.
Augments
For augments we will focus on stam regen, defense augment and utility. Again we have access to a LOT of good options that can easily be usefull, you can drift for more damage or more healing, try it out see how well you fare with the options and adapt for your own style.
FInal Augment examples
Augment List
Beatitude
Very straight forward this will increase your healing I recomend this one for all scenarios.
Apotropaism
This will boostem your defenses, is a overall good option but if you find yourself not getting hit at all take this one out for something more ofensive.
Detection
A good choice for exploration, this will allow you to easily detect seekers tokens. Be warned that the constantly sound of itens around you can be annoying.
Exaltation
Augments stamina recovery. I thing this is the best augment in the game, all vocations are very dependant in stamina.
Fugacity
If you are like me and hate being ambushed during your oxcart travels just take this, will save you so much time.
Catalysis
This one is only usefull if you are using damage skills, this will allow you tu put target on fire or freeze then more easily also increases the damage to the elemental weakness the enemy already has.
Sagacity
More magick = more health for the clone, more damage for the skills, more healing for the heals and etc etc, Go with this one.
Items
For itens you can go with a good staff with an permanent elemental buff and a good censer to increase magick and free elemental damage. Clothes whatever you feel like really and rings is were we need to play a little more attention. Rings can be overlooked sometimes but they are the most strong pice of clothing after the weapon in my opinion.
Weapons
Staff
The Tintreach is one of the strongest staffs available for the mage and can be aquired in the early stages of the game in the ancient battlegrounds. This staff already has built in eletric damage that can trigger elemental weaknesses from enemies and has augmented damage. Good overall choice.
You can algo go with another staff but remember elemental damage is a must as you probably wont be buffing yourself with this build.
I recomend upgrading your staff with Elven smithing.
Censer
The censers will only interfer with the life of your clone, not our priority with this build, so go with the one you like the most. This is one censer that can be bought in Bakbattahl easily.
I recomend upgrading your censer with Elven smithing.
Clothes
Go for what ever your fashion desires, of courses trying to get good defensive stats. I recomend upgrading your clothes with Battahli smithing.
My character
Rings
Ring of Momentum
This is the ring I recomend as your primary ring and never change. This will increase you stamina and so will increase your magick casting capabilities.
Ring of Articulacy
Use this if you think your spell take too long to cast. The difference of casting time is considerable and there is a stronger version of this ring that can be used in pair with this one. Allign this 2 rings with quickscast and you will have ZERO cast time.
Ring of Exultation
Use this if your see ourself getting hit often. WIll increase your overall health.
Ring of Reassurance
Use this if your pawns keep dying, it shouldn’t happen but can help if does. They will receive a great boost when being revived.
Combat
In the battlefield you role is to buff and then deal damage. Position yourself behind the Pawns, cast Aromatic Rally, Paladium and then go to your damage option, being a skill or basic atacks. If any ally gets low on health Anodyne then as fast as you can. And thats it your need to keep the party going.
Good game and have fun.
