Welcome to the Dig or Die 100% Achievements Guide! This guide will show you how to obtain all 18 achievements in the game. It is specifically designed for those who have already completed the game and are looking to fully complete it.
Overview
Note: different people may find different achievements easier/harder, this is just my opinion.
All of the achievements in this guide are earned in survival mode. The game contains other game modes but these often disable achievements. To get all of the achievements, you will likely need to play through the game multiple times (at least one of these has to be on brutal difficulty). Brutal sounds tough but it’s doable if you play it safe and save scum a lot. Save scumming is recommended when playing this game as enemies tend to hurt and defences break quickly. More on brutal difficulty later.
I worked hard on this so I hope it helps. If you have any questions/difficulties, please say so in the comments.
Note: This guide WILL contain spoilers and I will not be going over any story content (unless required). This guide is intended for people that have already beaten the game. So go do that first if you want to experience the game blind.
Note 2: Achievements are only available in single player.
Tier II
To obtain this achievement you need to craft a Tier 2 Auto-Builder.
This requires:
– The Tier 1 Auto-Builder (you start with it).
– 3 Blue Gems (dropped by the Blue Fireflies).
Once you have them, you can craft the Tier 2 Auto-Builder and earn this achievement.
Tier III
This requires:
– The Tier 2 Auto-Builder (crafted earlier).
– 5 Red Ferns (obtained from the red biome on the far left side of the world’s surface).
– 15 Radioactive Blood (dropped from enemies during the night)
Once you have all of these, you can craft the Tier III Auto-Builder and earn this achievement.
Tier IV
This requires:
– The Tier 3 Auto-Builder (crafted earlier).
– 2 Gas Rocks (mined from the sky islands).
– 5 Black Piranha Regen Organs (dropped from the black piranhas in the big underwater lake).
Once you have all of these, you can craft the Tier IV Auto-Builder and earn this achievement.
Tier V
This requires:
– The Tier 4 Auto-Builder.
– 4 Black Crystals (found rarely deep underground in the ant area).
– 30 Gas Rocks (found in the sky islands).
Once you have all of these, you can craft the Tier V Auto-Builder and earn this achievement.
Lucky Shot
You may have gotten this achievement whilst playing through the game normally. This is best done in the midgame with the Overcharged Plasma Gun. This is much easier at night as there are so many enemies. Your best bet is to funnel them all down a single tunnel and shoot when you think there are enough of them.
Not much to say on this one. A lot of piercing guns work for this achievement, but the Overcharged Plasma Gun works best in my opinion.
M-M-M-Monster Kill!
You’ll likely have gotten this achievement throughout your playthrough (assuming you made at least one attacking drone).
For this, you will either need the Combat Drone or the War Drone. Both of these work pretty well depending on what part of the game you’re in (Combat Drone works well earlier, War Drone works well later).
Similarly to the Lucky Shot achievement, your best bet is to funnel a bunch of monsters into a single tunnel and let your drone do the work. Just keep trying and you’ll get it.
Note: you can teleport your drone to you at any point by using it again.
Crystal Multiplication
Note: This one confused me a bit when I read it for the first time. Yes, you can generate more crystals, and it is incredibly easy to do.
The rocks inside the ant biome will sometimes regenerate when they make contact with water. So, all you have to do is pour some water onto a naturally forming black crystal. This can either be done by digging a tunnel upwards to the underground lake OR the much easier method of shooting the crystal with the Storm Gun (the Storm Gun generates water). You only need to generate one crystal for the achievement.
Note: You can keep doing this and you’ll quickly find that you have more crystals than you know what to do with. Yes, this works with the white crystals too. So farm as much as you like.
Escaped!
To do this, you will need to build and launch a rocket.
The rocket is made up of 7 blocks (1 Rocket Top, 1 Rocket Engine and 5 Rocket Tanks)
Rocket Top Recipe:
– 30 Titanium (mined at the bottom of the world but above the big cave).
– 1 Diamond (mined from the bottom of the volcano using an explosive) (Good luck with this one).
– 1 Demon’s Skin (dropped by one of the demon bosses at the bottom of the world).
Rocket Engine Recipe:
– 30 Titanium
– 3 Strange Rock Hearts (mined from the centre of the strange rock at the top right of the world using an explosive).
– 5 Sapphires (mined at the bottom of the world but above the big cave).
Rocket Tank Recipe (you need 5):
– 10 Titanium
– 10 Gas Rocks (mined from sky islands).
– 10 Deadly Radioactive Blood (dropped from strong enemies during the night).
Once you have all of these, place them on top of each other (from the bottom: engine, then tanks, then top) and launch. Be careful, as launching the rocket takes a few minutes and you will need to hold off a horde of enemies. You just need to survive.
Also, I hoped you mined out the sky islands lol. Your rocket needs a clear view of the top of the map.
Note: during the second half of the launch, you cannot fire manually. You will need to rely entirely on your defences.
Epilogue
Once the credits are done, you will reload back into your world but in creative mode. You will be awarded the achievement when you spawn back in.
Note: Creative mode disables achievements. So you cannot get any from this point onwards. I recommend you return to an earlier save if you’d like to continue to get achievements on that world.
Xenocide
To do this, you will need an Explosive and a way up to the Strange Rock (ideally a jetpack). Once you have an Explosive and are on the Strange Rock, you will need to dig down to the Strange Rock’s hearts. Be careful, as the rock likes to grow back, and avoid those moving white bits (they are unbreakable and like to trap you).
When you get to the centre, place down your Explosive as close to the hearts as you possibly can (you need to destroy them all in one blast). Set the Explosive off and dig away as fast as you can, don’t get blown up.
Once the Explosive has gone off, if you have successfully destroyed all of the hearts, you will earn the achievement and the Strange Rock will slowly fall apart.
Brutal Escape
Note: This is just a harder version of the Escaped! Achievement. Go reread that if you’d like to know how to do it.
This is done the same way but is much harder. You will need to fortify your base a lot more. The enemies take a lot of hits and deal a lot of damage. Just spam loads of high level turrets and repair turrets everywhere you can.
You can place an armoured door above the rocket and have it open automatically using some wire and a player sensor (placed above the rocket).
Oh, and remember to clear a path to the top of the map lol.
Note: If you are having a lot of difficulty with this one, check out the section “Amish Paradise”, I will go into more detail there.
Joined in Hell
This achievement is earned by defeating both of the demons at the very bottom of the map.
The first demon (and likely the one you’ll face in your playthrough) is found at the bottom of the world and on the left side of the volcano. So go defeat him first.
The second demon is found on the right side of the volcano. So you need to go to the volcano, climb over it and go to the other side, dig all the way down to the big cave again, and fight the much harder second demon.
This fight is harder because she is much stronger, has more health, and there is a lot less room to fight her in. Once you win, you will earn the achievement.
Note: You can fight them in any order, the right one is just harder.
Action Man
So chuck your Auto-Builder into your inventory, you won’t be needing it. You are not allowed to craft ANYTHING until the second day. You will have to rely on your starting weapon, your Tier 1 Miniaturizer, and whatever blocks or terrain you can get your hands on.
Dirt is your best friend in this, dig as much as you need to. If you are cornered, dig as far as you can and fill in the tunnel behind you.
This one may take a few attempts, but you’ll get it. Also remember there is a big hole you can jump into if you need to get away.
Note: the achievement says “First Night” but that also includes the first day.
Early Dive
This one isn’t too bad. Make sure to cut down a lot of trees before jumping down the hole. You can use the wood to craft a bunch of Wooden Platforms and Wooden Walls.
Once you jump down the hole, all you have to do is make your way back up. You can place Wooden Walls hanging from the ceiling and use them to get out of the cave section. After that, you just platform your way up the side of the hole. Watch out for the bats, they will kill you very quickly and you don’t do much damage.
Keep going, you will eventually get to the surface and earn the achievement.
Run, Forest Run!
So put your Auto-Builder and Gun into your inventory and get digging. I have 2 strategies for this, feel free to use either one. How well they work depends on your play style and the world gen. I personally recommend strategy 1 as it’s more consistent, but 2 works too.
The day is fairly safe, since there aren’t many monsters. You should be fine to just run/hide until nighttime.
Strategy 1:
This involves going to the water cave at the bottom of the big hole. Since the Fireflies can’t go in the water and the Hounds suck at swimming. Just watch out for Piranhas and remember to resurface for air. Don’t go too far left as that will summon the boss and increase spawn rates a lot. Also, be careful if you’re down there during the day, Black Bats, Black Piranhas and Sharks will do a lot of damage.
Strategy 2:
For this, I recommend digging a fairly deep, wide hole on the surface. This will fill up with water throughout the day. The water will allow you to swim down and avoid all of the Fireflies. This is easier if you dig somewhere where there is already a small lake (make it fill up faster).
You should spend the night hiding at the bottom of the lake, occasionally popping up for air. Watch out for the Hounds, as they can swim downwards. Thankfully, they are pretty dumb and often either get stuck or go back to the surface. The fireflies are deadly and will shoot a lot. If the lake is deep enough, they will not be close enough to shoot at you and will just hover at the top of the water. Watch out for their attacks when you surface for air.
Just keep trying and you can do it.
The achievement is earned when Day 2 starts.
Note: the achievement says “First Night” but that also includes the first day.
Amish Paradise
This is probably the hardest achievement in the game, and it requires a lot of work. Unlike a normal playthrough of Brutal difficulty, you cannot put an electric door above your rocket and have it auto open when you launch. Since wires are classed as electric items and placing them will disable the achievement. You will need to survive the launch attack without ANYTHING being above the rocket. Meaning you will have a giant hole in the top of your base at ALL TIMES.
Thankfully, I have a solution.
Monsters in Dig or Die will use the easiest/fastest path they can to get to you. So, if you make the path through the top really difficult to get to then they won’t go that way. But how do you do that?
This is a long one, so I’ll break it into steps.
Step 1, Make your base:
(Screens: the width/height of what you can see).
Your base will need to be fairly deep underground (about 2 screens deep). You will then want to make a small area for the rocket (remember, it needs to have the view of the sky, so dig a tunnel all the way up). I prefer to build the rocket slightly below the player, so the Rocket Top is on the same level as the player (this isn’t required, but means less work later).
Step 2, Funnelling:
Once you have made your underground rocket room, you should make a fairly large (I recommend 4 blocks tall) tunnel going either to the left or right. This is where you will put all of your defences (turrets, traps, etc). I like to fill it with Death Pulse Turrets, they do a lot of damage, pierce, and enemies don’t target them. So use them to whittle down the enemies’ health bars.
Step 3, Mob proofing:
Monsters will spawn offscreen but no more than 2 screens away from you. So if you make your base underground and fill in all of the surrounding caves, you can control where the monsters spawn. Monsters cannot spawn inside solid blocks or where the player has placed a background wall.
So you will have to go collect thousands of blocks and fill in every hole around your base, with the exception of the Enemy Funnel Tunnel™ and the launch hole for the rocket. Then, fill up your base and the rocket launch hole with background walls. You do not want enemies spawning in your base or above you (if they spawn above you, you just lose).
When that’s all done, enemies should only be spawning in the Enemy Funnel Tunnel™ and nowhere else.
Note: If monsters have literally nowhere they can spawn, they will ignore the spawn rules and spawn wherever they want. So make sure you did Step 2.
Note 2: I recommend using a Grenade Launcher to mine dirt. It’s very quick and doesn’t damage you. You can get a lot of dirt very quickly.
Step 4, Fortify:
This is basically just that part of Step 2 where I said to fill the tunnel with turrets. Yeah, I can’t tell you enough. Death Pulse Turrets will do a lot and then you can pick the last few off with your actual turrets. This is your main defence, so if this fails, you need to add more.
Step 5, Launch:
This is the hardest achievement and will take a while. But if you’ve done all of the above, you should be fine. If you have any issues, it’s most likely Step 3 or Step 4, so go add to them. Good Luck, and don’t hit any sky islands lol.
Note: If you accidentally craft an electric item, you should be fine. Placing the item is what disables the achievement. So just avoid making anything and if you do, DO NOT PLACE IT.
Note 2: This was my method of getting this achievement, I am sure there are others. But this was the easiest one I could come up with so it’s the one I’m showing.
Amish Paradise Gallery
Building Achievements
For these I HIGHLY recommend making a creative world and testing a bunch of designs. Remember to craft the Eiffel Glasses as they let you see any strain on your structures. Once you have made a design in creative mode that works, go into a survival world and recreate it. You will get the achievement when it is done.
Blocks I recommend:
Tower:
– Composite Metal Supports
– Composite Walls
Bridge:
– Composite Metal Supports
– Composite Light Wall
These are pretty expensive, but very worth it.
For the tower I’d recommend building it on the spawn hill. It’s a fairly large and completely flat area. For the bridge I’d recommend building off of one of the pillars in the deep cave.
Note: Natural background walls will ruin the builds. The game considers them to be solid and will support those blocks itself. So a 70 block tower means the highest block needs to be at least 7 blocks above the highest background tile. The bridge needs to be 40 blocks away from any background tile horizontally.
Building Gallery (Spoilers)
If you consider copying these cheating, then fair enough.
Note: These images are from creative worlds.
Tower:
(If you are building this, do one row at a time. Bottom to top).
Bridge:
(If you are building this, do one column at a time. Left to right. Ignore the creative mode blocks, they can be anything. They just mark the pillar wall).
The End
Most of these achievements aren’t that bad, but some of them are really difficult (Amish Paradise and the building ones). Hopefully you can all do it though.
