Welcome to our comprehensive guide for achieving 100% completion in the popular game, Death & Taxes. If you have any suggestions, questions, or notice any errors in the guide, please leave a comment and we will respond as soon as possible. Let’s dive into conquering Death & Taxes together.
Introduction
Office Achievements: 6
Conversations with Fate: 6
Quartermaster Mortimer’s Plunder Emporium: 12
Cerberus’ Den: 5
Profiles to look out for: 3
Mortimer’s Stories: 3
Post-Game Achievements: 3
World Parameters: 12
Endings: 10
I made this guide in order to organise all of the achievement information into one place, with links to other relevant guides.
There are quite a few different guides, specialising in different achievements, and there’s a lot of outdated or wrong info floating around. So, I wanted to combine all of the info into one list.
Hopefully, this guide will be easy to follow, and you’ll be able to get all of the achievements without any problems.
Office Achievements
Lemons
Start the game
Should unlock as you start the game. (Or play through the intro at the latest)
Lifegiver
Spare everyone on a single day
Mark all the profiles to live on one day.
You’ll receive a penalty but will not get fired for this (if it’s not your third mistake).
Deathbringer
Doom everyone on a single day
Mark all the profiles to die on one day.
You’ll receive a penalty but will not get fired for this (if it’s not your third mistake).
You can get this achievement if you’re going for Long Live the King or Insubordinate. (See guide below)
Desk Jockey
Cram all of your stuff into your desk drawers
Put all the stuff from the desk into the drawers. This includes the fax machine, marker, and profile sheets.
To Be Or Not To Be
Spend 10 minutes behind your desk without marking any profiles
Just go to your office, and don’t mark any profile for 10 minutes. You can play around at your desk, or just leave the game running.

Below are the Fate conversation answers I picked that led me to the achievement:
DAY 9 – WEEK 2, TUESDAY
- Oh my gods, you are just SO INCREDIBLY CUTE AND FLUFFY!
DAY 12 – WEEK 2, FRIDAY
- AAA! I still can’t believe how FLUFFY you are!

Meat Your Unmaker
Suggest that the afterlife is an eldritch monster dating show
DAY 19 – WEEK 3, FRIDAY
Choose the following options when presented:
- Hey, can I ask you some more questions, maybe?
- What do you think dying is like?
- But what if death is *extremely* bad and unpleasant?! (the other option “Yes, that feels right.” should also be ok here)
- Is there an afterlife?
- What if the afterlife is a dating game where you must charm *strange, monstrous* Gods!?
Darwin Award
Stop existing prematurely
Constantly complain to Fate about your job and your existence whenever possible.
On day 15 your own profile should show up and you need to mark it for death, thus getting the achievement.
You’ll be brought back to the Main Menu, and you can continue the run by marking your profile to live.

Below are the Fate conversation answers I picked that led me to the achievement:
DAY 1 – WEEK 1, MONDAY
- I hate following orders.
DAY 2 – WEEK 1, TUESDAY
- Bad. Really bad.
DAY 3 – WEEK 1, WEDNESDAY
- I feel… hungry all the time. How is that even possible?!
DAY 5 – WEEK 1, FRIDAY

DAY 7 – WEEK 1, SUNDAY

Quartermaster Mortimer’s Plunder Emporium
Yarr!
Visit Mortimer every day
Head to the shop at least once a day to unlock this, every day – 28 times total.
You don’t have to buy anything when you visit, and Mortimer will always greet you first time you enter the shop each day.
Probably the best time to visit is after you converse with Fate and get your pay check .Keep in mind, on the last day, you’ll need to visit Mortimer BEFORE the conversation with Fate, since the run ends immediately after.
Necropimp
Hold over 5000 darksouls
In game currency, easy to achieve once you’ve bought everything from the shop.
Alternatively, you can hoard your darksouls until you have this achievement, and then go on a shopping spree.
Booty Obsession
Buy all the items from the Shop
This one should read “Collect all items”, since you’ll need to buy all shop items, and receive an additional two items from the Cerberus’ Den.
You’ll need 7300 darksouls to buy every item from the shop.
Shop items (widgets) are:
- Threnody to Desolation – 1800 darksouls. A snow globe that shows the effects of your decisions in a vague way.
- Infernal Illuminator – 1200 darksouls. A lamp that displays the real-world ramifications of your actions. And remembers them.
- Lethean Obliviator – 400 darksouls. Eraser, lets you erase ONE mark on ONE profile per purchase. Its price goes up by 200 darksouls every time you buy it, until it reaches 2000 darksouls.
- Aphotic Reflector – 200 darksouls. A mirror that enables you to use the Dressing Room to change clothes.
- Ephemeral Mortality – 600 darksouls. A decision coin, with live/die faces.
- Annals of Transience – 700 darksouls. A calendar with 28 days on it.
- Athereal Resonator – 500 darksouls. A radio you can use to toggle music.
- Boo the Gerbil – 200 darksouls. A cat toy.
- Tenebrous Curiosity – 900 darksouls. A fidget spinner.
- Kaktos – 800 darksouls. A cactus.

- Piggy Bank – When you first meet Cerri the bartender, during the conversation you’ll get the option to say “Your tip jar is pretty neat.” and she’ll give you one.
- Breathalyzer – On DAY 27 or DAY 28, Mortimer will give it to you if you tell him a story he likes (see Talemaster achievement in this guide for more info).
The Sacrifice
Appeased the boss’ cat with a gift
Purchase Boo the Gerbil (the cat toy) and give it to the cat on DAY 9 or DAY 10.
In conversation, when available, choose:
- Hey cat, I bought you a gift. (Give her the rubber gerbil.)
Let it RIP
Get the fidget spinner to go up in flames
Purchase the Tenebrous Curiosity (fidget spinner) for your office, and click on it until it bursts into flames.
What does the cactus say?
Get the cactus to meow
Purchase the Kaktos (cactus) for your office, and click on it until it mews.
Two Face
Flip the Decision Coin 100 times
Purchase the Ephemeral Mortality (live/die coin) and flip it 100 times by clicking on it.
Squeaky Clean
Use the Eraser 10 times
Purchase the Lethean Obliviator (eraser) for your office, and use it 10 times.
It’s a one-use item, so you’ll have to keep buying it, and its price will go up until it reaches 2000 darksouls.
Easiest accomplished during New Game+ after everything has already been purchased, and you have a lot of darksouls.
Oink
Chunk up the Oink Bank
Get the Piggy Bank from Cerri the bartender & put your money in it until you get this achievement.
You can drag the coins you’ve collected so far into it, and future coins will be added automatically (you’ll hear an “oink” sound when leaving the Fates office).
Mirror Lover
Choose your appearance for more than 15 minutes straight
You must purchase Aphotic Reflector (a mirror), in order to access the Dressing Room.
It’s not necessary to buy any clothing items for this achievement.
You need to spend 15 minutes in the Dressing room. You can change your appearance, or just leave the game running.
R.I.P. Fashion
Collect all clothes and visages
You’ll have to buy all of the clothing sets from the shop, and receive on set from Cerri at the Cerberus’ Den.
You’ll get the Eradicator set (bird head) if you go to the Den for two successive weekends and talk to Cerri without changing your appearance.
You’ll need 5100 darksouls to buy every clothing set from the shop.
Shop clothing sets are:
- A Fancy Suit (Bowie Edition) – 700 darksouls.

- Unholy Smokes – 200 darksouls.
Classical
Change your look to regular skull and cape
You must purchase two things from the shop:
- Aphotic Reflector (a mirror), that allows you to change your appearance.
- Grim Cape – Clothing item.
Go to the dressing room and wear:
Stone Cold Classic (Grim Reaper Cape), Bonehead (white skull, yellow eyes), no hat.
Cerberus’ Den
If you go to the Cerberu’s Den on DAY 6 or DAY 7, you can talk to Cerri the bartender, and she’ll give you a personality quiz. Depending on the result, there are 3 achievements to obtain (and 3 different runs required):
Balancer
Score a vague personality in Cerri’s quiz
Misery Guts
Score a grouchy personality in Cerri’s quiz
KILLDOZER 9000
Score an aggressive personality in Cerri’s quiz
There are four questions. Try to answer what you think might be vague, grouchy, or aggressive.
Cerri will make you a drink based on the chosen personality – If it’s not what you’re going for, you can quit the game, and restart the conversation until you get personality (and drink) you want.
A couple of achievements linked to buying drinks from Cerri.
Phastmatological Zoologist
Collect all Desk Spirits
In order to get this achievement, you’ll need to drink 5 different cocktails based on the conversation options with Fate on DAY 22 – WEEK 4, MONDAY.
During the conversation, choose the following options:
- (any option)
- (any option EXCEPT “Um, it’s none of my business, so I won’t ask anything.”)
- Choose an option based on the drink you’d like to get.
On the final weekend (DAY 27 or DAY 28), go to the Cerberus’ Den, and you’ll get an option to order a special drink. Each cost 500 darksouls, so you’ll need 2500 darksouls for this achievement.
The drinks are:
- Sugar and Spice
- Rainbows and Puppies
- Blood and Guts
- Beeps and Boops
- Death and Taxes
On the following day, there will be a Ghost waiting for you on your desk.
The achievement will unlock once you’ve drank all 5 special drinks.
You can get only one cocktail per run, so you’ll need 5 runs to get this achievement.
Posthumous Spiritualism
Try all the drinks served at Cerberus’ Den
There are 16 drinks in total, and you’ll need to try them all for this achievement.
7 Regular drinks
You can buy them every weekend (except ‘One standard alcohol’), and you’ll need 1700 darksouls to buy them all.
- Djinn & Tariff – 300 darksouls.
- Tax on the Beach – 400 darksouls.
- Bloody Gary – 300 darksouls.
- Corpse Reviver – 300 darksouls.
- Heat Death of the Universe Iced Coffee – 100 darksouls.
- Milk – 100 darksouls.
- One standard alcohol – 200 darksouls. Available only during the final weekend.
3 Personality test drinks
Depending on your personality quiz result, 3 different drinks will be available on the menu.
You’ll actually have to buy them after tasting them for the first time during the quiz.
On the menu, they appear as “The Usual”.
Each drink cost 500 darksouls, so you’ll need 1500 darksouls to buy them all
You can get only one drink per run.
5 Ghost Cocktails
Depending on your conversation choices with Fate on DAY 22 – WEEK 4, MONDAY.
See achievement Phastmatological Zoologist above.
1 Kharon
Watch out for the profile Kharon Alpert. See “Profiles to look out for” section below.
You’ll have to kill her, and on the next weekend there will be a new menu option:
- I’d like a ‘Kharon’.
Go on with the following conversation until you’ve gotten the drink.
These are the choices I’ve made to get it:
- No ‘Kharon’? I demand to speak to the manager.
- I’ve got the recipe in my brain… somehow.
- High efficiency motor oil.
- Anti-dandruff shampoo.
- Dog fur.
- Bug spray.
The achievement will pop up once you’ve drank all 16 drinks.
Also, I encourage you to check this Guide for more info about this achievement, and Cerberus’ den overall:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2273666223
Profiles to look out for
These can appear anytime, so keep a lookout for them.
You must mark Kharon Alpert to die in order to get the Posthumous Spiritualism achievement – see section above for more info.
I found this profile to be extremely rare, and it took me a lot of runs until I got it, so definitely keep an eye out for this one.
If you’re having the same problem as I did, just keep going, and she’ll show up eventually. Probably doesn’t make a difference, but for me, her profile showed up on DAY 18, during a run I was killing everybody except one person each day. I didn’t go to the Cerberus’ Den, or talk to the voice in the mirror. And, I gave the toy to the cat.
Demon Hunter
Find the Immortal
You must mark Masashinge Oni Lanzo to die 5 different times.
During your next conversation with Fate, tell him that he keeps showing up in your profiles, and you should get the achievement.
He’ll show up often.
Pineapple Lover
Spare the guy who likes pineapple on pizza
Pineapple Hater
Doom the guy who likes pineapple on pizza.
These two achievements are tied to Michel St. James.
It’s recommended to mark him to live first, since it’s possible he’ll show up in the same run, but you can get these two achievements in separate runs.
He shows up relatively rarely, so keep a look out for him. It seems you tend to get his profile when Ecology is the lowest World Parameter.
Mortimer’s stories
Please note, these will only be available if the World State is NOT at Utopian level.
Ears of Steel
Listen to all of Mortimer’s bar stories
There are 7 different stories, but apparently only 6 count towards the achievement. You can listen to only one story per run, so you’ll have to do at least 6 runs to get this achievement.
4 stories are default (3 for the achievement), while 3 depend on Cerri’s personality quiz.
—————————————————————————————————–
At first 4 choices, choose either:
STORY 1
- Can we skip the tale this time?
This is the story that supposedly doesn’t count (and this option doesn’t always show up), but you can go for it as well if you want to be certain you’ll get the achievement.
Other three choices will lead you to a second screen where you can choose other stories, so pick any of the other 3 options.
- I’m listening… with bated breath.
- Oh no, not more pirate tales!
- Actually, I wanted to ask a few questions.
If you didn’t visit Mortimer’s shop at all, you’ll get 3 different choices, each leading to a second choices screen.
—————————————————————————————————–
At second 4 choices, choose either:
STORY 2
- Wonderful, I love it!
STORY 3
- (Keep listening.)
STORY 4
- (Just clock out and let it happen.)
Final answer will depend on the personality quiz result:
STORY 5 – VAGUE PERSONALITY
- Listen, in perfect calm.
STORY 6 – GROUCHY PERSONALITY
- Oh gods, will you ever stop!?
STORY 7 – AGGRESSIVE PERSONALITY
- Listen, but angrily.

Non Sequitur
Spin a nonsensical story for Mortimer
When Mortimer tells you his story, regardless of the outcome, pick an option to tell him a story. Choose the most nonsensical answers.
The following choices should lead to this achievement:
- I was *also* sailing the many seas…
- A lot of *regular paperwork* in my hand…
- Suddenly, I smelled…
- A sharp spike of pain.
- Soon enough…
- I found myself face-to-face with a handsome stranger.
- They barked wildly at me.
- So I mumbled…
- Uh, hey you…
- And I ran away.
If you mess this up close the game before the conversation ends, and try again.
Talemaster
Spin a good story for Mortimer
When Mortimer tells you his story, regardless of the outcome, pick an option to tell him a story. Choose the answers that go well together.
The following choices should lead to this achievement:
- I was working at my desk…
- A lot of *regular paperwork* in my hand…
- Suddenly, I smelled…
- Old paper and ink…
- Afterwards…
- I’m told to report to the Boss!
- They said I’d been doing a ‘good job’.
- So I felt…
- Proud.
- Which was great!
Afterwards, Mortimer will reward you with a Phantasmalyzer.
Post-Game Achievements
Begin Again
Start a New Game+
Once you’ve finished the game, choose to A New Chance! when Mortimer asks, and start again.
Or, you can choose the other option, and start a New Game+ from the main menu – You’ll still get this achievement.
If you choose the other option the credits will play, where you will be able to collect the following achievements.
Much Love
Spare every profile that appears during the credits
Development Hell
Doom every profile that appears during the credits
For these two achievements, once you’ve finished the game, choose The End. when Mortimer asks.
You’ll get the credits rolling, with a profile sheet for each developer. Choose LIVE or DIE on every profile, and you should get the achievement. Be sure to choose only one option per run.
Subsequently, you’ll need two full runs to get both achievements.
World Parameters
Firstly, we should define the World Parameters, and World State.
There are 4 World Parameters: ECOLOGY, PROSPERITY, HEALTH, and PEACE.
Each parameter has its hidden stats that define the World State.
Recommended items, to check (and control) World Parameters:
- Threnody to Desolation – A snow globe, to check the current world state.
- Infernal Illuminator –A lamp, to check every profile effect.
- Lethean Obliviator – Eraser, as a back-up, if you’ve made mistakes.
In the snow globe, parameters are represented as tree on the right, building at the top, people at the bottom, and flag pole at the right – and this defines the World State.
Every profile affects these parameters differently, by a number of ± stats. These stats are hidden, and you can only get an overview by using the snow globe and the lamp.
If you want to see the exact numbers, you can find stats tables of every profile – I recommend this page [docs.google.com]. However, knowing the exact numbers is not necessary to get the achievements easily.
Each of these parameters has 5 Levels, depending on its stats:
- Great: Above 350
- Good: 100 to 350
- Neutral: -100 to 100
- Bad: -350 to -100
- Horrible: Below -350
Depending on this, World State has 3 stages. It can vary based on each parameter score, but here are some guidelines on all three stages:
- Utopian: Two parameters at Great level, and other two not lower than Good.
- Balanced: All parameters at Neutral level.
- Chaos: One parameter at Horrible level. Even if the other three parameters are at Great level, World State will be in Chaos.
You don’t need to know the exact numbers, since you can follow the world state using the snow globe – Each World Parameter level has its distinct image, and each World State stage has Its sky color.
Since you need to choose the fate of a profile before you can check its effect using the lamp, the more runs you do, it will get easier to control the world state.
Also, I encourage you to check this Guide, where you’ll find a link to a web app, that helps you track the world parameters:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2875357532
With all that out of the way, here are the achievements.
Benefactor
Increase a single world parameter value at least 2 levels in one day
This is Fine
Drop a single world parameter value at least 2 levels in one day
Choose profiles that will all affect one parameter, positively or negatively.
Recommended to try these achievements when there are a lot of profiles on the desk.
Cure Cancer
Finish the game with the lowest chaos in Health
Stonks
Finish the game with the lowest chaos in Prosperity
War Changes
Finish the game with lowest chaos in Peace
Treehugger
Finish the game with the lowest chaos level in Ecology
Plague Doctor
Finish the game with highest chaos in Health
Global Warming
Finish the game with the highest chaos in Ecology
Back to the Roots
Finish the game with the highest chaos in Prosperity
Total War
Finish the game with the highest chaos in Peace
Manipulate the stats depending on which achievement you’re going for.
Please note, in order to get the positive end achievements, you don’t have them at Great level (same goes for the negative end achievements).
E.g. You can have all 4 parameters at Horrible level, and still get the Treehugger achievement, if it’s the parameter with the highest value.
You’ll need at least 4 runs to get all 8 achievements, although it will probably take a few more.
Utopia
Reach utopian level on all stats simultaneously
Armageddon
Reach critical level on all stats simultaneously
Manipulate the stats to get all 4 parameters at Great or Horrible level simultaneously.
You don’t have to finish the run at this state, achievements are received immediately. Therefore, it’s recommended to go for these two while also attempting one of the ending achievements.
Endings
Insubordinate
Get Fired
Mark everyone to die each day, and you’ll get fired at DAY 4.
Fate’s Pet
Reveal Fate’s Plot by being completely loyal to him
Follow all the rules and agree with what Fate says.
On one day, before day 15, kill all humans. During your conversation with Fate, choose “But the humans deserve to die”.
On DAY 14, Fate should reveal his plan, and you’ll get the achievement.
I encourage you to check this Guide for a detailed walkthrough.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3041745509
The Great Dying
Knowingly fulfill Fate’s plan to end the world
Become Fate’s friend, wait until he tells you his plan and help him carry it out until everyone is dead. You don’t need to follow his instrucions completely, as long as you get the World State into Chaos. You can get this achievement after getting the Fate’s Pet, so it’s recommended to attempt these two in one run.
I’ll Be Back
Witness the end of the world
Finish the Game with World State in Chaos.
You can get this achievement while going for The Great Dying and Armageddon achievements.
Long Live the King
Usurp Fate and take over as the new Fate
Follow the directions of the red profiles. They will appear on the following days:
DAY 11 – WEEK 2, THURSDAY. Kill everyone.
DAY 14 – WEEK 2, SUNDAY. Let the human in the red profile live.
DAY 18 – WEEK 3, THURSDAY. Kill the human in the red profile.
DAY 22 – WEEK 4, MONDAY. Read the red profile.
DAY 23 – WEEK 4, TUESDAY. Kill the human named ‘Ron’. Their profile is marked red.
DAY 25 – WEEK 4, THURSDAY. Spare the human in the red profile.
DAY 27 – WEEK 4 SATURDAY. Kill the human in the red profile.
DAY 28 – WEEK 4, SUNDAY. Kill Fate.
Some guides are mentioning you also need to talk with the voice in the mirror every time you have the chance, but from my experience this is not necessary – You can tell it to leave you alone, or ignore it completely, and still get the achievement.
However, if you want to be certain you’ll get this achievement, keep talking to it.
Ouroboros
Relieve Fate of their duties and ascend as the new Fate
Finish the Game with World state in Balanced or higher.
On the final day, take over fate’s when offered.
The Goodest Ending
Get the most positive ending imaginable
Finish the Game with World State in Utopian.
You can get this achievement while going for the Utopia achievement.
Infinitarium
Get all endings
You’ll need to get all of the endings from the Gallery.
8 endings on the left are tied to World Parameters and World state.
Out of these 4 on the left are positive, and 4 on the right are negative.
For the positive ones, you’ll need to finish the game with World state in:
- Utopian, getting the endings for two highest parameters, or
- Balanced, getting the ending for the highest parameter.
For the negative ones, you’ll need to finish the game with World state in:
- Chaos, getting the endings for two lowest parameters, or
- Balanced, getting the ending for the lowest parameter.
Keep in mind that these endings aren’t tied with the World Parameters – End Game Achievements (earlier in the guide). E.g. In order to get the Good Ecology ending, Ecology stat needs to be the highest one, and you can’t finish the game with World State in Chaos.
3 endings in the middle are tied to the World State.
You’ll get two of them by following different ending achievements: I’ll Be Back for Chaos, and The Goodest Ending for Utopian.
For the Balanced ending, you should finish the game with World state in Balance – All 4 World Parameters should be at the same neutral level, like when you started the run.
4 endings on the right are tied to Grim’s fate. You should get them by following different ending achievements: Fate’s Pet – The Great Dying, Insubordinate, Ouroboros, and Long Live the King.
Rulebender
Never fully abide by Fate’s instructions
Always disobey what Fate asks without getting fired.
- ALWAYS mark the WRONG amount of profiles dead on every single day.
- Don’t let everyone live/die, or you’ll get a reprimand.
- On “wildcard” days, when Fate gives you no specific number of days, it doesn’t matter what you choose.
- You’re on the right track if you only get a bonus of 500 on day 14, and most of the days (except the “wildcard” ones) no money at all.
Additional points, not confirmed as important for the achievement, but strongly suggested:
- On “wildcard” days you can let everyone LIVE to annoy Fate. You will still get your 300 bucks, but this act of sass will still count towards the achievement.
- You can choose unfriendly/rebellious dialogue options, if possible.
I encourage you to check this Guide for a detailed walkthrough:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2731554214
Also, check this guide with instructions on how to achieve Balance Ending and Rulebender achievement, possibly in one run:

EGG
Find the ultimate Easter Egg
In order to get this achievement, you need to have all 4 World Parameter levels at Good Level or higher (so, above 100 points), by the end of DAY 5.
You should get this achievement on the morning of DAY 6, along with a surprise in your office.
I encourage you to check this Guide for a detailed walkthrough:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2893119834
This achievement used to be nearly impossible, since you needed to have all of the achievements at the same value by the end of DAY 5. Thankfully, the developers changed this, but there are still a lot of older guides that will point you in the wrong direction.
Hardest Achievements
Overall, they aren’t too complicated to get, but it will take you a few runs to get 100%.
If you’re wondering what I think the most difficult achievement is, I’d definitely have to pick the Posthumous Spiritualism, just because of the ‘Kharon’ drink, since it took ages until her profile showed up for me.
But, even if you’re lucky with Kharon, there are 15 other drinks to consume, and 4 other achievements you’ll have to get while going for this one, with 5 different runs at least.
So, I’d still say it’s a tough achievement.
The EGG achievement can also be hard to get, since it’s not too easy to get all 4 World parameters above 100 points by DAY 5, especially if you’re not using the profile list with exact stats. Still, it was a lot tougher before the update, and I was able to get it on my second attempt.
Finally, the Infinitarium is also a suitable candidate for the toughest achievement. You need to complete 14 other achievements while going for this one, and most likely still have to go for a couple of different endings. The upside is, if you focus on these other achievements, once only Infinitarium is left, there won’t be too much work to do.
