Welcome to our basic guide for unlocking all the achievements in Dead Dreams. This article will provide you with the necessary information to successfully obtain all the achievements in the game. So get ready to conquer Dead Dreams and become a master achievement hunter!
Introduction
- The Cocoon achievement is currently unobtainable, but I provided a fix.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3330092373 - Going for the Dead Dream achievement ending will autosave the game and lock you at this ending’s credit scene and delete all your previous saves. However, I provided a fix.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3330113623 - For the Yume Nikki achievement, it can prevent you from unlocking the Dead Dream achievement ending depending on the choices you make after unlocking this achievement. I recommend you attempt this achievement after getting all 3 endings. Check the achievement for more details.
I didn’t bother trying to figure out a fix for this since most people will probably try to get all the endings first before attempting this achievement. If you did get locked from getting the Dead Dream achievement, you can load an earlier save not too far from here and speed run back to this point of the game.
I recommend you back up your saves when you reach Chapter 0 (Endings Chapter) in case you might lock yourself to one of the endings or the game deleted all the saves. The saves are in the www\save directory of where you installed Dead Dreams.
I highly recommended you apply both fixes before attempting these achievements to save time. With those two issues fixed and the third issue noted, here’s all the achievements listed in chronological order.

At the top of the tree, interact with the switch.
Choose Flip the switch to get this ending.
You can get “OFF” ending by deciding to end the frontier as Aaron inside the system.
Yume Nikki
Dream Diary
Secret
WARNING: If you haven’t unlock the achievements for the 3 endings yet, I urge you to do one of the following:
- Make a backup of your Chapter 0 saves. [Recommended]
- After unlocking this achievement, you’ll be transported to a new area and you can explore around. You have to make 5 choices to unlock the exit. Don’t enter the exit. Instead, quit to the main menu to load your save to get the endings.
Otherwise, depending on your 5 choices, if you enter the exit, the game will autosave those choices and possibly lock you to the Instrumentality ending.
In this chapter, there are 2 doors you can interact with.
The north door shows some text talking about a door_001 that leads to dream_diary, but the password can’t be read.
The south door requires a password to unlock. This is the door_001 for this achievement.

The developer provided this hint:
There’s a famous RPG Maker game which you could describe as Dream Diary :))
There’s a Japanese RPG Maker game called ゆめにっき which literally means Dream Diary. The password to unlock the door is the pronunciation of ゆめにっき: YumeNikki
After unlocking the door, you’ll be at the garden again. This time there are several doors you can enter.

Here’s what the doors lead to according to the developer:
so basically chapter 0 contains a bunch of Demo maps with minimal narrative importance. Cut content, ester eggs or imagery that went nowhere, stuff like that. Probably some extra lore, that didn’t fit well with the rest of the game.
As you’re exploring, there are 5 areas with a person or monster that will come to you.
- A monster at the beach at the south end of the garden below the stairs.
- A red pant person at the gallery.
- A yellow-haired person at the outdoor grass area where several groups of people are scattered.
- A monster at the upper right corner to the right of the escalator in a dream-like area. Watch out for an annoying monster that will catch you and kick you out of this area.
- A black-and-white striped shirt person at the southwest side of the subway.
Just like the gems, you can accept or reject them. After you accept or reject all the people/monsters, you can ascend the tree in the garden again to return to the beginning of Chapter 0.
There’s a bug relating to the 5 choices you make here. If you choose to reject all of them, you won’t run into any issues. However, if you choose to accept them, there’s a possibility that the game will register those specific choices as if you’re accepting the gems that lead to the Instrumentality ending. So, after you leave this place, the game autosaves your choices to the same autosave as Chapter 0 and returns you to the start of Chapter 0. Regardless of what choice you make with the gems as you ascend to the switch at the top of the tree, you’ll always get the Instrumentality ending. You can’t get the Dead Dream ending anymore unless you load an earlier save and get back to Chapter 0 again.
The reason for this bug might be that the variables to check if the player accepts or rejects the gems are global instead of local. So, when the game transports the player from the beginning of Chapter 0 to the new area, it’s not loading a new map. The new area and the starting area of Chapter 0 are on the same map. Only the player has been moved. So, the variables continue to carry over when the player moves to different areas. The developer might have set the choices of the gems and 3 of the 5 choices of those people or monsters to the same 3 variables. That’s probably why if you accept them, the game thinks you accepted all the gems and gives you the Instrumentality ending.
