Welcome to our Dead by Daylight Settings Guide! In this article, we will be sharing custom settings that can improve the overall visibility and performance of your game. Whether you’re a new player looking for a simpler approach to enhancing your visuals or a veteran player wanting to tweak your settings for a better experience, this guide is for you. Please keep in mind that these settings may not be suitable for everyone and if you’re looking for more advanced options, this guide may not cover them all. So, let’s dive in and start improving your Dead by Daylight gameplay!
Ingame Settings
- Quality : Low
- Auto-Adjust : Off
- Screen Resolution : 100%
- Full Screen Mode : Windowed Fullscreen
- 16:9 Aspect Ratio : On
- VSync : Off
- FPS Limit : 120
- FSR : OFF
- Anti-Aliasing : Off
- XESS Mode : Off
- UI Scale : 80%
“This setting adjusts the UI scale for menus in the lobby, store, and tome. It’s largely a matter of personal preference, so feel free to choose the scale that feels most comfortable for you.”
- In-Game HUD Scale : 70%
“This setting adjusts the HUD size during matches, including the survivor portraits, item and status icons, and perk icons. While it’s mostly a matter of personal preference, I recommend setting it to the lowest value of 70% to minimize screen clutter and maximize visibility.”
- Player Names Visibility : On
“This setting is pretty straightforward. I recommend keeping it on, as it makes it easier to tell who’s who when multiple survivors pick the same character. Plus, it helps you remember the names of those survivors you absolutely can’t stand during the match!”
- Killer Hook Count Visibility : On
- Score Events Visibility : On
- Mini Item Pop-Up : On
“This setting is entirely based on personal preference. For newer players, I recommend keeping it on, as it allows you to see detailed descriptions of the items you’ll find and use during the game. It also provides information on killer-specific items, like those from characters such as Vecna. However, for more experienced players, I suggest turning it off, as it can clutter your screen and obstruct your vision during critical moments.”
- Bloodweb Interaction Behaviour : Press
“I recommend keeping this setting enabled because navigating the blood web can be incredibly time-consuming. Having it on allows you to click once instead of holding down the button, making the process much smoother.”
- Heart Beat Visual Support : On
“This setting adds a visual heartbeat effect to your survivor character when you’re within the killer’s terror radius or lullaby. I recommend enabling it, as it provides both a visual and audio cue to alert you to the killer’s presence. This can be especially beneficial for players who have difficulty hearing or are hearing impaired.”
- First Person FOV : 103
“This setting is currently experimental, but I recommend increasing it to the maximum for better visibility. Players who are accustomed to a lower field of view may find it a bit disorienting at first, but the improved perspective can enhance your overall gameplay experience.”
- Interaction Behaviour : Hold
- Run To Cancel : Off
“Both of these controls are a matter of personal preference. I have mine set this way for greater flexibility and control.”
Config files
- Open the Run window: Windows + R
- Type in: %localappdata% and hit Enter
- Navigate to: DeadByDaylight > Saved > Config
- For Steam users: go to WindowsClient
- For Epic Games users: go to EGS
- Open GameUserSettings.ini, You can use programs like Notepad, Notepad++, or VSCode to open the file
“Here are the recommended settings to optimize visibility, clarity, and frame rates. Keep in mind that these are my personal settings that work well for me. Feel free to adjust or modify them to better suit your computer specifications and personal preferences.”
“Keep this setting at 100% to ensure the resolution matches your monitor’s native resolution.”
“I believe this setting controls the Level of Detail (LOD) view distance quality to minimize pop-ins and other LOD-related artifacts. It’s best to keep this set between 3 or 4.”
“For smoother edges in the game, I recommend enabling anti-aliasing and setting it to this quality level. If you don’t mind the jagged edges on objects, turning it off can provide a decent FPS boost.”
“Keep the shadow settings between 1 (Medium) and 4 (Cinematic) since shadows can significantly help you spot players lurking around corners and other areas.”
“This setting was introduced with the Unreal Engine 5 update. I recommend keeping it off for more stable performance and improved FPS.”
“Turn it off”
“I have the post-processing set to 0. I’m not sure if this affects the fogginess of the game, but I’ve noticed that lower settings provide better visibility and reduce fogginess when tuned down.”/i]
“I have the texture quality for models set to 2 (High) because I can’t notice a significant difference between High and Ultra. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and how much VRAM you have.”
“I’m also unsure if this setting affects fog and visibility, but similar to before, I’ve set it to 0 and noticed an improvement in visual clarity.”
“I keep this setting on low because I don’t notice much difference in visual quality, so I’ve adjusted it to improve FPS.”
“I’m not entirely sure what this setting does, but I have it set to 0 for better FPS. It doesn’t affect the active shadows of survivors or the killer at all.”
“Keep this setting enabled.”
“Since we’ve already adjusted most of the settings in-game, the only settings that still need to be changed are the following:”
“I set this to the highest audio quality available. Previously, I encountered issues where some audio cues weren’t playing. This setting fixes those problems and ensures you benefit from all the audio cues the game has to offer.”
“I set this to the highest setting the game allows for a smoother gameplay experience. If you’re having trouble reaching 120 FPS, I recommend lowering the cap in increments of 15 or 30.”
“I turn V-Sync off to reduce input lag, but if you’re experiencing screen tearing, I suggest enabling it as a potential fix.”
“To enable anti-aliasing, set the option to 2 for TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing).”
5. Save all the changes you’ve made and exit the editor
6. Right-click on the file to open the options menu, then select ‘Properties
7. Set the file to read-only, then close the properties window, and that should be it

“HSL Shift allows me to modify the colors displayed on my screen. In maps like Coldwind and Garden of Joy, the strong orange tones can make it difficult to see yellow and red auras when playing as either killer or survivor. By reducing the saturation of orange, HSL Shift enhances the visibility of yellow and red auras. You can customize the colors to your liking, but this means every yellow hue will appear differently. I simply adjusted the strength of each to make them more readable.”

Steam Launch Options
- Go to your library, find Dead By Daylight, right-click, and select Properties.
- Click on Launch Options and paste the following parameters:
- -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -dx12 -high
- Ta daaa
“I recommend these launch options because they enhance stability in my game. The -USEALLAVAILABLECORES parameter allows the game to better utilize CPU power, while -dx12 enables DirectX 12, which I’ve found significantly improves performance and reduces hiccups on newer hardware. Setting the game to high priority with -high helps prevent random freezes or FPS drops.”
Questions & Answers
“The preset is zipped, so you’ll need a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip to open it. If you’re using Windows 11, you should also be able to unzip files directly without additional software.”

7-Zip : https://www.7-zip.org/
“I understand that installing ReShade can be overwhelming due to the various optional downloads for its effects. I recommend selecting all of them so you can experiment with different effects and discover your own aesthetic. If you find yourself struggling, consider watching a YouTube tutorial that guides you through the installation process.”
Youtube Tutorial :
- Open the Windows search bar and type in ‘Disk Cleanup.’ A window will appear prompting you to select the drive you want to clean.
- Choose the C: Drive (this is the common drive name for Windows installations; if yours is different, select the drive where Windows is installed).
- Check the box for ‘DirectX Shader Cache’ and click ‘OK,’ then confirm your choice.
- That’s it! This will clear your shader cache.”
“I have an ultrawide monitor, and if I don’t lock the game at 16:9, the field of view becomes excessively zoomed in, which is uncomfortable for gameplay and severely restricts visibility.”
“The changes I’ve highlighted are not, to my knowledge, bannable, as they don’t modify the game’s files in the same way that modding does. However, I must caution you that using third-party software like ReShade to alter the game’s visuals comes with its risks, so please proceed at your own discretion. Modifying the config files isn’t bannable; it simply involves adjusting existing settings that are often less accessible due to the way BHVR has designed the settings menu.”
“Setting the file to read-only prevents the game from saving any changes, allowing us to retain all the minor graphical tweaks we’ve made each time we launch the game.”
Here is a fairly comprehensive guide that remains relevant to the current graphical configurations in Dead by Daylight

“Since I often tab in and out of the game during queues, while on the hook, or when spectating, I prefer to use windowed borderless mode. This is because ReShade reloads every time I switch back to fullscreen, which can be inconvenient.”
