Are you eagerly waiting for a sequel to Day of Defeat? Many of us have been wondering if Valve will ever start working on Day of Defeat 2. But fear not, this is not a joke guide. This is a genuine guide on how we can persuade Valve to start production on the much-awaited sequel. Read on to find out what we can do to make Day of Defeat 2 a reality.
1 – WELCOME COMRADE.
Hello, and welcome to the (un)official guide to achieve the sequel of Day of Defeat. Today I’ll be talking about a few key points for success, why it should even happen and exist, and answer frequently asked questions.
Please note that this guide is genuine, and not a Steam points farm.
2 – DISCLAIMERS.
Before we move on, I must disclose a few disclaimers.
- I do not condone harassment towards anyone, this includes Valve employees or communities.
- To achieve something this big, we must work together in unity and we should not be independent during all of this.
- If you have any questions related to any Steam violations of the terms of service, please head to the FAQ for more information. We set boundaries when it comes to getting Valve to work on an entire sequel.
3 – WHAT IS DAY OF DEFEAT?
Before we work on getting ourselves and VALVe a sequel, we need to fully understand what DoD even is, and why we want a sequel.
Day of Defeat is a team-based first-person shooter set during World War II. Developed by VALVe, the game focuses on the intense infantry battles of the European Theater. Players choose to join either the Allied or Axis forces, engaging in tactical warfare across various historically inspired maps.
There are two games for Day of Defeat; First, there’s the normal Day of Defeat, fully made in the Goldsrc engine. It was released on May 15, 2003 in Europe and May 6 in North America.
Then there’s Day of Defeat: Source, which is a full re-make of Day of Defeat on the Source engine. It was released on the 26th of September 2005, globally.
A lot of fans have been expecting a sequel for over twenty years from now, and it has become a burden since then. DoD:S (Day of Defeat: Source) is the 5th game to be ported into the Source engine, ever.
However, this game has become so old now that Valve hasn’t had the time to fully patch the game. This means that exploiters, spammers and other viruses are spreaded through DoD with ease. This is a 20 year old game, barely patched, that has been able to captivate so many into a war aesthetic, and yet here we are, asking for a sequel.
Here’s what we demand from Valve for the sequel:
- A full remake of Day of Defeat in Source 2.
- A full remake of sounds, assets and UI elements.
- Access for players to customize the amount of bots for private servers, including a friendlier invite system and more customization settings for private matches and servers.
- A refresh of the settings, including crosshair customization and other elements able to captivate newer players.
- A fresh remake of all UI elements. This means that Valve should replace the horrid UI from both games and refresh them with a new style. Using plain black boxes and 8-pixel tall text is not going to look good in today’s standards.
- A full rewrite of the Valve Anti-cheat system, able to suspend and terminate (VAC ban) cheaters from the sequel.
4 – HERE’S WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO.
Now it’s your turn to make a change.
We have been talking about DoD, what it is, what we demand, and why it should have a sequel. It is your turn to make progress and make history, just like in DoD.
Here’s everything we are going to do in our power to sustain this protest and make a change for everyone in the gaming community.
1. #FixDoD and #MakeDoD2
Encourage the use of the hashtags #FixDoD and #MakeDoD2. Make a new post on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, Reddit, any social media app, even Steam.
Change your name and add “#FixDoD” and/or “#MakeDoD2” to your name.
2. And a controversial one; change your Day of Defeat review to negative to support the cause. By changing your review to a negative one, we’re able to transform the review percentage to Overwhelmingly Negative. Do your part, because it will make a difference no matter what.
And please, when changing your review, make a constructive criticism against Valve and the game. This will encourage them much, much more.
Just like with #FixTF2, #FixDoD and #MakeDoD2 will be used to support our cause for a new sequel. The community is waiting, Valve.
5. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR VALVE?
For Valve, here’s what they are going to expect and what SHOULD and WILL happen.
- A massive change for reviews for Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source. From Very Positive to Overwhelmingly Negative, this is our goal to force Valve to act.
- A drop of sales for Day of Defeat and DOD:S.
- Increased visibility on the protest, making Valve have to act.
- Negative reviews and public campaigns WILL create a PR challenge for Valve, which will possibly affect their reputation and make them prompt a response.
- The DoD community will listen to this message and share their frustrations with this situation. They will post on discussions, guides, and much, much more.
6. EASIER WAYS TO PROTEST
However, I completely understand that most of you don’t have the time to do all of this. Here’s what we’re going to do, to set our voices higher and get Valve’s attention.
I have created a change.org petition online for anyone to sign. The link is on this phrase[chng.it]. If the formatting isn’t working, here’s a separate link.
š§· https://chng.it/8PwXWWrFhY (The petition link.)
This petition will be used to show Valve how many supporters there are and how many people actually care. This is vital to our success for a sequel.
If you can’t change your username right now, post on social media, or even change your review, you can atleast sign the petition, even if you aren’t a fan of the series or never even played the game.
7. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A sequel is vital for the Day of Defeat community to survive. The game is one of the more interesting concepts for a videogame out there and it’s truly amazing. We want a change for everyone, you included.
You can support the cause (protest) by signing the petition[chng.it], changing your name by adding “#MakeDoD2” or “#FixDoD”, changing your review to negative, and posting on social media with those exact same hashtags. Your support matters.
No. You should absolutely not. However, here are a few key points that you should take account for.
- Harassment: Do NOT harass anyone in the community, any Valve employees, game developers, or anyone else, ever. This is only going to worsen the situation and give yourself a bad name and, yes, is a Steam violation.
- Changing your reviews in other games: Do NOT change your review to negative on any other title other than Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source. It is extremely unnecessary to change your review to negative in other titles and will not help the cause.
- Spamming comment walls and other types of Steam violations: Do NOT spam on comment walls or anywhere else to support the cause. This is a Steam violation and you should not do any of this. You should also follow the Steam terms of service.
We continue to support the cause. Persistence is key. Don’t give up.
