This guide will showcase all 60 Codex entries as of V1.2.4, in english.
Introduction/Spoiler Warnings
IMPORTANT WARNING – This guide covers spoilers to the endgame boss and secrets near the end of the guide, proceed at your own discretion if you are not ready for spoilers, cadet.
Hints 1 – 9
There are 9 available hints to assist you on your endeavors in the galaxy, try to keep them in mind.
Having trouble surviving? Upgrade your ships using gems, then try a run with upgrades enabled for an easier time!
Some items synergize better than others – try the Beam weapon with Warp and Parrier!
You can fire your Beam, then Warp away from counterattacks or Parry the ones you can’t escape!
Aliens will slowly grow in strength as you proceed throughout the game. Make sure to increase your Shot Power to take them out more quickly!
To get some seriously high scores, try upgrading a weapon, then intentionally discarding it by picking up a totally different one!
You can really focus on some specific builds by using gems to Burn items you’re sure you don’t want!
Having additional stock for your shots is great, but sometimes it’s better to think about increasing your reload speed!
Don’t change away from the standard weapon too quickly! Some of them inflict serious penalties you might want to compensate for first.
Confused about Combos and Multipliers? Every 20 enemies defeated in a single combo is one additional point of Multiplier until the Combo ends!
Multipliers can be permanent, but your Combo is always temporary!
Phase shots can’t block bullets. The same is true for Beam shots, so be wary of enemy fire when using such weapons.
Playable Pilots
M – 22
A hero from planet Bouncer. Full of infectious enthusiasm, but not the brightest bulb. He saved his own planet from calamity and now seeks to save as many other worlds as he can!
Has trouble with the wild and foreign idea of “Jumping”.
F – 75
A long-lived Cuniculian who spent too much of her life listening to tales of heroism. She obtained a spaceship and left her planet seeking to become the hero of her own story.
Please don’t call her “Grandma”. She hates that.
F – 33 (Passen) M – 33 (Dale)
A Musian married couple – they’re hoping that signing up for a galaxy-spanning mercenary contract will allow them to locate the fabled “Moon of Cheese”.
Failing that, the bounty will let them get a good start on building their own! Planning to have no less than 24 kids.
Curator comment – I find the fact that they both control the wheel absolutely adorable.
M – 11
A visitor to the galaxy, Ajitama is more at home composing music than fighting. That said, his kind heart means he’ll do anything to defend people in need!
He might be small, but you shouldn’t doubt his talents for a second!
M – 48
Lowe travelled from the distant 8080 galaxy to help fight off the Deadly Alien Rogues.
He might be getting old, and his ship made from dated tech, but he can still blast invaders like the best of them!
He finds polygons to be unfathomable horrors beyond comprehension.
M – ??
A tricky Tanuki from a distant world, and also a practiced magician.
Using his magic, he can enhance rockets with the power of elemental fire.
At odds with his magical talents, he’s not particularly used to piloting a spacecraft.
F – 28
A witch from the fantastic planet Rhythm and court mage of the crown prince.
Her spooky looks bely her good nature.
Not a morning person in the slightest!
F – 19
A cyborg from the forgotten planet of Albion.
She’s known to be somewhat cold and emotionless. Despite that, she believes strongly in protecting the innocent at any cost.
Her civilian name is Deidre.
Ships & Spacecrafts
A balanced craft focused evenly on defense and offense. Not particularly fast, but comes with extra bullets and shields.
A attack-focused that moves quickly, fires quickly and reloads quickly. Just be careful not to take damage!
A shoddy craft with low stats across the board. The best Passen & Dale could afford after their mortgage payments. Great for getting high scores, though!
A swift little spacecraft designed to go toe-to-toe with the Deadly Alien Rogues.
It comes outfitted with a custom-made “Sound Shotgun”, allowing Ajitama to blast enemies with catchy musical bars instead of lasers!
“So retro!”
Lowe hates hearing that – his spacecraft is pure cutting-edge tech! Armed with the Classic Gun, it can fire as fast as you can hit the trigger so long as you don’t miss a shot!
And you’d better not, because it can’t be loaded with any other weapons!
A loaner spaceship given to Pocomagi to help him fight off the DAR.
It’s an unwieldy and slow machine, but it comes loaded with rockets to best make use of Pocomagi’s enchanting skills.
It might need a few speed upgrades to help it dodge enemy fire, though.
An enchanted crystalline vessel that Primrose uses for space travel.
Due to it lacking any actual machinery, it cannot be outfitted with any weapons beyond Prism Orbs!
By skillfully bouncing Prism Orbs back and forth between the DAR and the Properose, Primrose can rapidly deal massive damage.
A fast, extremely fragile spacecraft equipped with the Ray Gun weapon.
The Ray Gun’s power secretly increases slightly with additional Shot Speed and Penetration upgrades.
This is further multiplied when a single enemy is targeted multiple times at once!
Aliens – Invading Infantry
A bog-standard biomechanical alien attack unit. Destroy a chain of them to gain the Vertical special, a missile that will travel in a straight line upwards.
A run of the mill biomechanical alien attack unit. Destroy a chain of them to get the Left special, a missile that will turn left when it first strikes an enemy.
A normal alien attack unit. It fires shots that take two hits to block. Destroy a chain of them to gain the Right special, a missile that will turn right when it first strikes an enemy.
A simple alien attack unit. It fires shots that phase through bunkers. Destroy a chain of them to gain the Diagonal special, a missile that splits when it first strikes an enemy.
A cowardly alien unit that will retreat backwards one row when struck. Provides the Shifting special, a missile that shifts horizontal position when it strikes an enemy.
An aggressive alien unit that will advance fowards one row when struck. Provides the Static special, which will hang around for 10 seconds, damaging anything that touches it.
A trickly alien that fires diagonal projectiles. Provides the Corner special, which bounces around the screen, damaging anything it touches.
A dangerous alien unit that fires a solid beam of energy. Provides the Big Beam special, which allows you to fire a even larger beam of solid energy, damaging everything it hits.
A decidedly organic alien unit that splits into multiple other units when destroyed. Provides the Split special, which turns into both a left land right shot when it strikes an enemy.
A lethal alien unit that drops a powerful drill when destroyed. Make sure to get out of the way! Provides the Buster special, which damages enemies in a wide range above you.
A defensively-focused alien unit that shields adjacent units from harm. Take it down first! Provides the Shield special, which when fired into your own bunkers, heals them.
A brave alien unit that always moves the front of formations if possible. Provides the Crushing special, which splits into a Vertical, Right and Left shot on impact.
A seemingly harmless alien unit… until you notice the constant multiplying! Provides the Fracture special, which randomly damages a cluster of enemies on impact.
An alien unit focused on healing. It provides an additional point of shield to any adjacent enemy. Provides the Lock-On special, which attacks 10 random targets.
A noble alien unit that attacks with a swift laser. It takes a little time for the shot to charge before it fires, so use that chance to get out of the way! Provides the Lance special, which transfers HP from any enemy it hits to any barrier it also passes through.
An impatient alien unit that, if possible, will leave formation to attack you close range. Provides the Wobble special, which travels upwards while shifting side to side.
A odd alien unit that will change places with another when struck. Probably fun at parties. Provides the Swipe special, which returns to the ground after flying up. Catch it to regain some special attack energy.
A frightening alien unit that retaliates when struck. Provides the Reflect special, which stays in place for a while and will bounce back enemy projectiles that touch it.
A speedy alien unit that, when exposed, makes the entire formation move faster. Destroying them should be a priority! Gives the Boost special, which temporarily increases your stats.
A violent alien that will fire rapidly when exposed to danger. Provides the Rapid special, which fires a volley of standard shots one after the other when used.
An overwhelmingly powerful alien unit that will make all others invincible when exposed. Destroy it fast! Provides the Flash special, which deals damage and destroys enemy shots.
Aliens – Big Bosses
Like the Standard Blue, but way bigger! Gets faster when you damage it, maybe too fast when it’s about to be destroyed! Focus on where it’s going to be, not where it already is.
An enemy that styles itself to be your equal. Show them whose boss by dodging their shots and leading them into your own!
Like the Standard Yellow, but huge! It fires phase shots that pass through your bunkers and can’t be blocked, so make sure to focus on dodging.
A unpredictable boss enemy that moves left and right and targets you directly. When at low health, it begins teleporting! Play defensively!
Like the Angler, but much larger and more dangerous. Be careful of the shots it fires, as it can bounce off the sides of the playfield!
Watch out! It slams down as soon as it enters the fray, and bounces around trying to crush you. Aim to hit it when it bounces high into the air!
Just like an oversized Marauder, except it only engages in close combat when it is in danger. Don’t panic when it leaves formation, as it can no longer move down any further.
Your rival returns, with some upgrades! If you see them rear back, get out of the way! They’ll slam into you using their own ship as a weapon!
The boss of all Beamers, when it reaches half health it begins to fire beams rapidly! Beams can only hurt you once the white part of the beam materializes, so focusing on dodging those!
When this boss takes enough damage, it splits into smaller enemies. Each moves faster than the last, so just focus on being careful that they don’t crash into you!
Leader of all the Drillers. It’ll drop the drill its carrying when it reaches half health, so be prepared! It can be fun to reflect the drill back at it though…
A powerful boss that bounces around the screen, but annoyingly only rarely hits the corners… Be careful of the wide spread of shots it fires – try blocking them with your own!
Like a big shifter with a few extra tricks – It doesn’t need another alien to swap places with, It’ll just move elsewhere when struck!
A boss alien that loves to teleport. It spends some time remaining stationary between each warp; that’s your chance to pile on the damage!
Like a really big Buffer. But wow – this one is fast! Take them down as quickly as you can, it’s as simple as that!
A boss that aims to crush you with the spikes covering it. It’ll also try to fire at you when it bounces over you, so watch out! I feel like I’ve seen it before, somewhere…
Just like the smaller Reflecters, this boss will counterattack every time it is struck. Just make sure not to end up damaging yourself when fighting it!
Never one to surrender, your rival is back and badder than ever! As always though, just focus on dodging their shots and leading them into your own!
A huge Gunner with a huge gun. It’ll fire rapidly when it reaches low health, so be prepared to avoid a barrage of enemy fire!
The enemy’s frontline commander. Watch out for it’s orbital strike attack – It’ll slam right down after firing a beam from on high!
Miniscule and Miscallaenous entries
Have you ever seen the “Bonus Gems” section listed on the final score screen?
You can score a Bonus Gem every 100000 points scored in a run! Strategically spending your existing Gems to increase your scoring potential can quickly multiply the amount you have overall!
Boss Rush is a alternative gamemode that isn’t focused on clearing waves of enemies.
Instead, you have to fight every boss in the game in a row and beat them all as fast as possible!
Times are recorded as a score representing the number of frames of active gameplay.
Secrets & Spoilers!
Odd items appear on worlds 5, 10, and 15… Could they do anything special when you get all of them? Maybe on world 20?
To unlock zone 21 and find the DAR commander, you’ll need to collect a Sacrifice, One Hit Wonder and another Sacrifice item.
Zone 21 will only open if you collect the key item in zone 20 – make sure you have everything you need by then!.
The true mastermind behind the DAR invasion. Heavily armored and extremely dangerous. Watch out as it sheds damaged parts and play as patiently as you can – you’re almost there!
End of Codex
Now with all this knowledge at your disposal cadet, get out there and blow some alien rogue scum to bits!
Curator Hints
There are a few hints that I also want to share with you, perhaps it will help you along the way!
Certain enemies like Advancers, Drillers, Lancers or Marauders can get rather cheap shots on you if you aren’t fully focused! When being attacked by enemies like these, do your absolute best to keep your eyes on the sky for random bullets, and avoid being under real close enemies, since they can get some easy shots and get you killed rather fast.
In the case that you need to dodge, put more focus into avoiding attacks than shooting. By lategame, you should be alright focusing more on avoiding shots than focusing where you fire.
Although bunkers maybe considerable nuisances when blocking your own bullets early on, they have the potential to save your life later on in the game if you end up keeping them around.
Don’t leave the bunkers unloved, drop some upgrades onto them, mainly bunker strength or +1 bunkers. having a safe place to hide from volleys of lasers can save you from damage that you otherwise would’ve ended your run.
Selecting Phaser or Prism Orbs allows you to avoid bunker entirely, or slyly shooting around the bunkers to avoiding pushing or damaging them also works. Do your best to save the bunkers in the way you can in order to increase your defensiveness as much as possible.
Specialized builds are pretty much the best way to get as far as possible during your runs. generalized builds can get you through, but investing all across the board can drag out fights depending on your choices, cause you to be devoid of enough stock or damage, or sometimes get you in poor situations where being a jack of all trades isn’t enough.
Don’t be afraid to be a specialist, and forgo certain stats in favor for glass cannon attacks, etc. That’s where item burning comes into play. Absolutely go for burning items you don’t need, as the bonus gems at the end of your run will usually round out and net you a positive amount in the end. Burning items is very important for achievement hunting as well, if you want to throw that into the mix.
