Captain Pawsome: Captain Pawsome Achievements Guide

Welcome to Captain Pawsome! It’s a bit glitchy, but very lovable.

Please be aware that I am not a regular guide writer. I have written for this game because there isn’t an existing body of knowledge for it at the time of writing. It may not be the best guide you’ve ever read, but it might be the only one you read for this one if, as it seems, the devs have abandoned it. 🙁

A lot of the achievements for this game are normal in-story items that you will get through normal gameplay. Just a note, through: It is possible to accidentally pick up an item before its related quest, after mistaking it for the item you’re actually after now. (Quest items have a gold background in the inventory). Pop it in a storage box on your ship until the relevant quest comes up. Even if the item is unclear you’ll probably know it once you see it described. (I got Tinfoil Cat’s tinfoil hat early, and thought it was a weapon!) Once you’re asked to obtain it in a quest, pull it out of the storage box and put it back into inventory. This will trigger the quest to see it as found.

Also, be aware that you will max out your inventory semi-regularly and will need to use storage boxes to store not-immediately-necessary items. If you don’t have room in your inventory and try to grab an item you’ve reeled in, it will drop back in the water. However, it will stay in the shallows, so just pop into your room and shuffle some things into storage and go back and get it. It’s a slightly bigger deal if you try to buy something from the shop when you have a full inventory. They will sell to you, but then the item will drop out of your hands onto the ground or into the water when you leave. If it goes in the water, it may disappear at the time, but it will still be in the area and you’ll be able to fish it out on a future trip. Head straight back to your boat and do some shuffling to make room for it, then go back and get it.

You will complete this through normal story gameplay. The power pod, and the place you replace it once you’ve charged it up with lightning, are both under the main set of shops. Get the lightning from the top of the tall building on the left hand end of the shops.

You will complete this through normal story gameplay. The Siren is a cat decoration laying on its side under water a short way out of port.

You will complete this through normal game play. Unhelpfully, there are two clusters of mushrooms, one under the shops at port near the critter in the diving helmet, and one a little way out to sea. “The mushrooms” people talk about on occasion to point you to things are always the ones under port.

You will complete this through normal game play. A moderate distance out of port, after the first barrier, is a sunken amusement park. The critters with the candy machine are on the furthest (rightmost) end of it.

You will get this through normal gameplay. You have to raise money for your ship improvements and you do this by putting fish and found treasures into cabinets and fish tanks and waiting around in port for people to buy them. Your character restored the town’s power and is very beloved, so you don’t have to convince people to buy. If no one is coming in pretty soon, just save and sleep. They’ll come in the morning.

Raising money gets tougher later in the game if you’re mostly relying on treasures. Medium and large sized fish get a lot more. Do invest in larger tanks and cabinets, and you should also get some storage boxes for overflow inventory items. You’ll get a lot of pointless things like house decorations and clothes. You can delete them but it isn’t recommended – clothes, at least, feed in to another achievement later. It’s better to just store them.

You will complete this one through normal game play. I don’t remember much about this one, I’m afraid. I will try to find out more detail and add to this later.

This one is achieved through normal story gameplay. The crystal is at the far end of the ocean – not all the way to the end but close enough that you’d go there and then inch your way back. There was a glitch here for me – I got a crystal-shaped outline in an area that looked, er, crystally, but it was a strange silver thing. It was actually a tinfoil hat for a later quest. If you get this, put it in a storage box and keep going a bit further back towards port (not much). You’ll find the actual crystal shortly.

You’ll get this one through normal gameplay. You’ll retrieve a tinfoil hat for Tinfoil Cat (that’s the guy you buy crafting items from at ground level in port), which you may have already found while looking for Atlantis. It’s at the far end of the ocean away from port. He’ll give you a radio to drop back in the same place, and the cow alien-or-whatever will give you a mechanical item that you return to Tinfoil Cat.

You will get this one through normal gameplay. You’ll find a safe-like object not very far out of port. It will release a painting that you return to the clothes guy. It’s kind of a feline Titanic paint-me-like-one-of-your-French-girls thing.

You’ll get this one through normal game play. From memory, the monster is under the shops in port, down where the guy in the ocean helmet is (also near the mushrooms). One of the things that will happen is that a porthole in the downed craft in the water will open. You can then send your line down it to a further area beneath. In this area is a treasure chest with a captain’s jacket in it.

This achievement is for fully upgrading your ship and fishing rod. You will need a fair bit of money for these and you will probably need to fish, if you aren’t already, to get enough. Focusing on treasures, as I did for a while, will not get you all the way there. I discuss more about money under Richman Fishercat.

You get this achievement by collecting fifteen different pieces of clothing. You may get there just from found treasures, but you can also buy them with your in-game coins at the shop.

You get this achievement for getting a total of 500,000 gold coins, which you will not get from normal gameplay. Your best bet to do this efficiently is to fish at the far end of the ocean with the best and second-best bait. Use the best bait way down deep to pick up clownflsh, which are worth over 10,000 coins. You should be able to get three before they empty out, and they’ll refresh in a few in-game days. Use the second-best bait in the shallows for sturgeon and a couple of others. Those will return something around the 1,800 mark. You should be able to come back with anything from 30K-60K in a trip to the far end before you have return to port for a while for it to replenish. I don’t know how many days, but it seemed to me to be about four.

The second best bait is super easy to get in terms of the crafting pieces needed, but regardless of the bait, don’t hesitate to just buy components from Tinfoil Cat. By the late stage of the game you’ll have emptied out most of the trash and it won’t necessarily be easy to find them anymore. Even buying the crafting components, the higher end baits have a super high return on investment.

You will be struggling for fish tank space for these fish. I destroyed my little tanks and used two large ones – in retrospect I should have destroyed the cabinets and gotten a third. The clownfish will only sit singly in the largest tank, so you basically need to hang around the shop and put more fish in from your inventory as the townfolk empty them by buying. Try to work fast so the place doesn’t empty out.

One caveat about the “best” fish down deep: There was one that I got down the far port end (under the chef’s food van) that did not fit into any tank, even the largest one when empty. As a precaution, I would recommend after first catching “best” fish, try and put it in your fish tank to make sure it will go in. I did not find any others myself, but there could be others.

One more thing about this achievement: You don’t have to have 500,000 coins. If you look in the Achievements tab while in the full inventory screen, it has a counter that is much higher than your coins on hand. It clearly counts all coins you’ve received/earned during the game, including the ones you’ve spent. So don’t be afraid to spend on bait and tanks.

The official description of this achievement is “Collect every piece of clothing,” but that’s not how you get it. The clothing component of the game is unfinished. The counter for the achievement requires 41 pieces, but there are only 20 in the game, including the end-game bonus captain’s jacket. There are unused clothing slots, like glasses, so clearly more were planned.

However, the achievement is still gettable. My testing suggests that the counter goes up whenever any piece of clothing is added to your inventory, regardless of whether it’s a duplicate. It also seemed to stay there if you deleted the clothing piece (but I wouldn’t). It doesn’t go up if your inventory is full and you drop the item on the ground/in the water as a result, but if you go and clear some inventory slots and come back and get them, you’ll get them added to the counter then. So, when you’re past needing to buy other things in the game, just buy a bunch of duplicates.
