A collection of references for everything related to the House of Light DLC, including Salons, Further Stories, and the Lighthouse Institute.
On Salon
- Cooking is fun.
- Knowing more about the characters and the lore.
- During a Salon, you can steer a conversation using a Soul card, which will yield a Lesson; every Guest will have two such conversations. Salons are essentially a new, repeatable way to get Lessons.
- Only one Salon can be held every Season.
- At least 2 Guests are required to begin a Salon.
- Most locations can hold 5+1 Guests, while the Gullscry Loggia can only have 3 Guests.
- Usually, a Salon will have 5 Guests maximum, unless it is a Salon for founding the Lighthouse Institute, which will have one extra Guest (the Secretary Persistent).
- When a Salon ends, every Guest will immediately leave the Hush House.
How to Host a Salon
- In the DLC, a new item called Writing-Case will be sent to the Librarian.
- When a Visitor comes to the House, and you provide them with the consultation (a Book), they will leave their contact cards. The contact information can then be recorded in the Writing-Case.
- The only exception is Dr. Serena Blackwood – the Writing-Case is sent by her, and as such, her address is already recorded on it.
- To write An Invitation, use the Writing-Case and an Ink (or Typewriter) at a Desk.
- Invitations all have aspect requirements, and you need to meet these requirements like usual crafting.
- Hokobald’s Invitation does not have any aspect requirements, instead you need to use Orpiment Exultant to write it.
- Writing Invitations involves lots of Ink, therefore getting the Typewriter will be very helpful.
- Send Invitations via mail through the Post Office. The invited Visitor will come to the House.
- Invitations do not expire, while the Visitors still have their usual 5-minute timer – write Invitations in advance and only send them out when fully prepared.
- Villagers can be invited as well, just chat with them and slot the Writing-Case into the Topic.
- Every Salon can only have one Villager.
- Villagers’ salon cards don’t have a timer, and these are separated from their Assistant cards.
- At least 1 Food and 1 Drink per Guest.
- e.g. 5 Guests = 5 Food and 5 Drink
- At least 1 Food that matches each Guest’s Food preferences.
- e.g. 5 Guests with Forge = 1 Food with Forge + 4 other Foods
- At least 1 Drink that matches each Guest’s Drink preferences.
- e.g. 5 Guests with 1 non-alcoholic = 1 non-alcoholic Drink + 4 other Drinks
- Villagers don’t have a preferred dish.
- There isn’t any Guests that require Moth, Nectar, or Rose dishes.
- In the correct time of the day, place all the required Food and Drinks in the proper room.
- Send out Invitations and receive the Visitor cards.
- Click the servant bell panel in the room. Add Visitors into the Guest slots and start the feast.
- Villagers must be placed in the 1st slot.
- At least 2 Guests are required to begin a Salon.
- A Salon can only start if all the requirements – minimum Guests, number of Foods and Drinks, required Foods and Drinks, correct time of the day – are met.
Note: During a Salon, all the Food and Drinks in the Salon room will be consumed. Therefore, don’t use Salon-able rooms as Food or Drink storage or place random Food and Drinks in them, as everything will be considered part of the Salon dishes.
Optimal Foods and Drinks
- “Optimal” here means Foods and Drinks that are very easy to buy or craft while covering every Guest’s preferences possible.
- The list below is, of course, not the definite combination, but it should have every aspect covered, be easy to prepare, and feel like a typical British feast with stodgy dishes and malty teas.
An example of a Salon using all the optimal Foods and Drinks in this guide as well as their alternatives.
First Course – Onion Soup (Edge, Heart, Moon, Nectar)
- In Summer and Autumn, gather the Sack of Vegetables from Kitchen Garden; consider the Sack and choose Onion
- Cooking: Onions + Dripping* + Any compatible Soul
- *More on how to get this Dripping item right below.
- You may replace Onion with Leek or normal Pumpkin, which can be easily gathered from the Kitchen Garden.
Main Course – Roast Beef (Edge, Forge, Heart, Scale)
- Order Beef via mail.
- Cooking: Beef + Any compatible Soul = Roast Beef + Dripping
- Cooking Beef will yield Dripping, which can be used to cook the Onion Soup.
Side Dish – Almonds (Forge, Grail, Moth)
- Just order Almonds via mail, no extra preparation steps
- Perhaps the easiest Side Dish to make – it just costs money.
- If money is an issue, have Grape Salad or Roast Potatoes instead, as they only require gathered items from the Kitchen Garden and nothing else.
Pudding – Agalophotis Souffle (Heart, Knock, Lantern, Nectar, Rose, Sky)
- Order Milk and Flour via mail
- In Numa, gather the Aglaophotis from Physic Garden
- Dough – Cooking: Milk + Flour + Kitchen Bowls + Any compatible Soul
- Souffle – Cooking: Aglaophotis + Dough + Any compatible Soul
- It may look complex, but among Foods that can cover Knock and Lantern (and Sky) at the same time, this Pudding is one of the easiest to make.
Extra – Milk (Grail, Heart, Scale, Winter)
- Order via mail
- Milk is both a Drink and a Food for the Salon.
If a sixth Food or an extra Course is needed, buy one more bottle of Almonds.
C&H Second Flush Assam (Edge, Knock, Lantern)
- Order via mail
Milk (Grail, Heart, Scale, Winter)
- Order via mail
Mist-Kissed Water (Heart, Knock, Moon, Winter)
- In Numa, gather from the Well
Veiled Goddess Lapsang Souchong (Forge, Sky)
- Order via mail
For the fifth Drink, prepare one extra cup of Mist-Kissed Water.
If a sixth Drink is needed, have another cup of Mist-Kissed Water.

Further Stories
Further Stories usually involve complex choices and decisions, and different Incidents could impact each other regarding Visitors. Therefore, it is very helpful to have a cheat sheet or wiki with necessary info, and plan ahead.

- When a Visitor arrives for an Affair, give them a consultation (a Book) if possible. They will leave their address.
- Going through all the Visitors will end the Incident. Open the Wisdom Tree and check which Visitors you can follow up on a particular Affair.
- Use the Writing-Case and Ink (or Typewriter) to write Invitations for the follow-up Visitors. Save the Invitations for later.
- (Optional) Prepare all the Foods and Drinks for the Salon beforehand.
- Wait a day and refresh as many Soul cards as possible.
- Send out all the Invitations all at once (normally every Visitor will only stay 5 minutes).
- Visitors all arrived at the lower right tab of your UI. Talk to them about the Affair. Check the wiki and make a decision.
- If you need more time for the Visitors, camp them in the beds around the House.
- Wait till the next day to see the Story’s result. Collect your rewards.
- (Optional) Immediately hold a Salon and slot everyone in there, as a celebration.
On Inkling and Incident
- Complete a Further Story will yield a unique item called Inkling.
- Considering an Inkling will generate a random Persistent Memory.
- Considering two Inklings together will create a unique Memory called Avenue of Enquiry.
- At a Desk, use the Avenue of Enquiry, a Blank paper, and an Encaustum Terminale – this will force the game to draw a new Incident card.
Founding the Institute
The new UI for founding the Institute is the lonely island lighthouse at the left side of the Hush House.
First, you need to progress and finish the Further Stories. Once you finish a Further Story, some relevant Visitors will gain new aspects – Inspired, Agenda, and Fear/Sympathy – and make them suitable for the Institute’s positions.
- Inspired is the aspect required for someone to become a candidate for the Institute.
The Lighthouse Institute has 7 positions, with 1 for the Librarian, and you need to fill the rest 6.
- The candidates for every position are drawn from 4 given characters (Visitors).
- The candidates’ Agendas decide the Mission of the Institute.
- The candidates’ Fears/Sympathies decide the Foes and Allies of the Institute.
- As a result, the Agendas and Fears/Sympathies of all six candidates must NOT conflict.
- If the Secretary Persistent is left empty, then Prof. Rowena will step in and fit the position, as she once served as the one and only Secretary Persistent for the Hush House. Although it implies that this is not the best choice; Rowena’s existence is gradually waning, and her power will fade away one day.
Once all the positions are filled, and the Institute has defined its Missions, Foes, and Allies without any conflict, you can found the Lighthouse Institute.
- Note that establishing the Institute will automatically call for an “Inaugural Meeting” (a Salon) for all six founding members of the new Institute. Prepare Food and Drinks for 6 Guests in advance.

The potential candidates, especially their Agendas and Fears/Sympathies, are the results of the Further Stories, which usually involve complex choices and decisions. Therefore, it is very helpful to have a cheat sheet or wiki with necessary info, and plan ahead.
