This guide will teach you how to unlock the achievements in the Chiron Gate and give you tips on how lucky you need to be to get them randomly.
Header
I have played for years on Mobile, so this should be complete or mostly complete.
“Accidental unlocking” refers to how easy it is to obtain it without actively going for it – stuff that players regularly do that happen every game can be very easily unlocked by accident, but things that require large amounts of luck or active attention cannot be accidentally unlocked.
A New Age
Restore the Chiron Gate
Actual unlock requirements:
Win the game.
Tips:
- You need to have at least one crew member alive to activate the gate at the end.
- Because there are several instances for crewmates to die at the Gate Nexus, it’s advised to bring at least four crew members.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
Not As We Know It
Find life based on four different chemistries in a single game
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- Upgrading your scanners to pinpoint both signs of life and organic remains makes this a matter of time and luck.
- If you’re having trouble with the initial Biology Data, upgrade your scanners to detect liquids, which may reveal life.
- Dust sometimes is either life or organic remains.
- Nebula have a higher-than-average chance to have space-dwelling life forms.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Hard)
Sunless Sea
Find life in a subsurface ocean
Actual unlock requirements:
Find either life or organic remains in a subsurface ocean.
Tips:
- Having both the Temperature and Liquid scanners make this achievement a matter of time.
- Subsurface Oceans are usually only on colder planets.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Easy)
Galactic Community
Visit the homeworlds of five interstellar civilisations in a single game
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- The Gatebuilders count for this achievement.
- Extinct civilizations count for this achievement.
- Sometimes you are unlucky with meeting other interstellar civilizations and cannot get four other ones to be discovered in time.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Very Easy)
Veteran Explorer
Have an explorer reach level five
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- Keeping your explorers alive for as long as possible guarantees the achievement.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Easy)
Space Hero
Have an explorer reach level eight
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-Explanatory.
Tips:
- Just keeping your crew members alive will naturally give you roughly to level 6.
- You’ll need to know when to stop landing the ship if it’s too risky to survey, such as if they are on the second level of injured or radiation sickness.
- On top of keeping them alive, you’ll also need to have them active in missions, so focusing one crew member’s health and keeping them as safe as possible lowers the time in recovery.
- Crew members in stasis don’t earn experience.
- There are a large amount of events that can instantly kill crew, and you have to succeed at all of them if they target who you want to reach level 8.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
All-Seeing
Have every scanner upgrade in a single game
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- It is easy to get this achievement in your first few games.
- Prioritize planetary detection over gate detection.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Very Easy)
Home Away from Home
Have every crew capacity upgrade in a single game
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- There are three upgrades that increase crew capacity. (3 > 6)
- While one of the upgrades is relatively easy to get, the other two are much harder: one requires a study on alien cyanobacteria (yes, biology) to unlock, and another requires alien insight from either a technological anomaly or a technological civilization (yes, xenology).
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Hard)
Tough Little Ship
Have every ship armour upgrade in a single game
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- There are three armor upgrades in-game. (3 > 6)
- This is arguably easier to achieve than Home Away from Home due space-dwelling life forms having higher chances in nebulas.
- You’ll still need to investigate wreckages for an upgrade.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Hard)
Chosen One
Restore the Gate using the same explorer who took the first step onto an extrasolar world
Actual unlock requirements:
Activate the Chiron Gate with the same crew member who did the first extrasolar step.
Tips:
- There is no unique trait to tell the difference between the Chosen One and people who are just inspired. Remember the name of them, or have a system in place (i.e. it’s always your first pilot).
- Never allowing the person to go on a mission ensures they survive to the Gate Nexus.
- On top of requiring them to live all the way to the Gatebuilder Homeworld, they cannot die on the Gate Nexus before activating it either.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
Everybody Lives
Restore the Gate without an explorer dying
Actual unlock requirements:
Have no crew member die the entire game.
Tips:
- This includes the final onslaught of insta-kills when on the Gate Nexus.
- You’ll have to succeed at every single event that can insta-kill crew members. If you’re actively going for this achievement, you’ll have to restart every time it is impossible to prevent a crew death.
- Going beyond the gate and leaving to a different civilization do not count as crew deaths.
- Know when it’s took risky to keep exploring – either restrict it to orbital surveillance only, or even abandon the system entirely.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
Prime Directive
Restore the Gate without making contact with a non-spacefaring civilization
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- Dead civilizations do not count against this achievement.
- Avoid exploring worlds with structures unless no life was detected.
- Civilizations will almost always have signs of life accompanying them. If there are signs of life on a planet with liquids, an atmosphere, and non-extreme temperatures, avoid investigating.
- Rarely will a civilization be on a Gas Giant, and never on a planetoid.
- Getting the civilization detector and actively avoiding all systems with civilizations makes this achievement a matter of time.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Medium)
No Detours
Restore the Gate without visiting the home system of any interstellar civilisation besides the Gatebuilders
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- Hoard your Xenology data, you’ll need at least 500 total just to complete this achievement.
- Spend your Xenology data very wisely, as you effectively are locked out of several hundred from homeworlds.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
Stasis Pod
Return to Chiron Base with an explorer in medical stasis
Actual unlock requirements:
Return to Chiron Base with >0 Stasis Pods.
Tips:
- You can only get Stasis Pods as a research option from an event where a crew member’s health is falling due to radiation or sickness. Having a Xenologist on board will give you an option that has a chance to put them successfully into medical stasis (failure kills them instantly).
- You need at least 2 alive crew members to get the achievement: one of any kind, and one Xenologist.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Very Hard)
Through the Wringer
Return to Chiron Base with a living explorer who is simultaneously injured, depressed, suffering from radiation sickness and an alien infection
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-Explanatory.
Tips:
- Despite Terrestrial Infection and Wormhole Sickness being valid negative ailments, they are not required for this achievement, nor do they count for this achievement.
- Avoid getting the Alien Infection early on, as that kills in 2 (compared to injuries and radiation which kill in 3).
- All ailments must be on the same explorer.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Very Hard)
Crew Expendable
Return to Chiron Base after five explorers have died in a single system
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- The the point where this achievement can even be attempted, you’ll need every upgrade for crew capacity, which means your main crew will usually be high level and survive.
- Intentionally recruiting brand new crew just for this achievement and constantly getting them injured and sick on purpose only leaves it up to chance, as there may not be enough injuries, the ship will be destroyed.
- Running out of fuel in the only reliable way to get an event that has a high chance of instantly killing a crew member.
- Leaving for an alien world does not count as a crew member dying.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
A New Home
Have an explorer leave the project without dying
Actual unlock requirements:
A crew member has either gone beyond the Gates or has left for an alien world.
Tips:
- Every time you have a chance to go beyond the gates, take the chance.
- On civilized worlds, there is an event where the natives are worried about a human disease spreading to them. Trying to find a cure and intentionally failing gives an option for a crew member to stay behind.
- More rarely, an event will trigger on a civilized world where a crew member wants to willingly be left behind.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Medium)
Cupid
Have a successful shipboard romance
Actual unlock requirements:
Get the event “Love in Outer Space” and succeed at the 50/50 chance.
Tips:
- This event is quite uncommon because it only happens when in transit.
- The outcome is always 50/50, regardless of skill level.
- Every time this event triggers, take the chance.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
Can Stand the Heat
Successfully land on a molten world
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- Have a high-level Engineer and a working Fabricator when attempting to land on a world with molten lava covering the entire surface.
- Some runs you might not ever get a molten world.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Very Hard)
Jaws of Death
Rescue an explorer from a cave monster
Actual unlock requirements:
On a world with both life and caves, get the event where a crew member is assaulted by a cave monster, and fight them off.
Tips:
- This is the only achievement I have never actually unlocked, despite years of playing.
- Life cannot be non-aggressive.
- Only exploring worlds with life on them heightens the chance for one to eventually have caves,
- The event to get this achievement isn’t guaranteed, so even with all valid requirements it’s down to pure luck.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
Balance of Power
Arm both sides in a conflict
Actual unlock requirements:
On a civilized world, after arming one side with advanced technology, smuggle technology to the other side.
Tips:
- While the initial odds for getting weapons can be 50/50, an Engineer can help start the achievement, and a Xenologist is required to smuggle to the other side.
- You must successfully smuggle weapons. Getting caught counts against this achievement.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
The Great Library
Stop cultural artefacts from being crushed
Actual unlock requirements:
On a world with ruins, have an Engineer stop the collapsing structure from collapsing.
Tips:
- The chance of success is quite low for this achievement, so a high-level Engineer will help in unlocking.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: No.
The Warm Equations
Have the whole crew make it back to the Gate after running out of fuel
Actual unlock requirements:
Self-explanatory.
Tips:
- A Pilot, Medic, and Engineer are the only crew members that are valid to fire off the event to save supplies and potentially get every back. Without any of these three, this achievement is impossible.
- While high-level crew is preferred for maximum success chance, you can brute force this achievement by constantly burning all fuel going back and forth between celestial bodies until you’re out of fuel, going to the gate, and starting a new game if the event to save fails.
- If the event to save fails, a crew member will die.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Medium)
Cosmic Enlightenment
Go beyond the Gates
Actual unlock requirements:
After restoring the Gate Network, have the person restoring the gates successfully guide all surviving crew members into the Gate Network itself.
Tips:
- The success chance is astronomically low, and only the person who restored the Gate Network can be used to get the achievement, on top of requiring an entire playthrough for a single shot. Level up your entire crew as much as possible for maximum success chance, because ailments and Inspired all count towards and against this.
- Going beyond the gates does not count as dying for the purposes of other achievements.
Can be accidentally unlocked?: Yes. (Very Hard)
