Welcome to our gaming guide for “Bendy: Secrets of the Machine”! This article will provide a semi-comprehensive list of all the information currently available in the game. We hope this will be helpful to players looking to uncover all the secrets of the machine. Let’s get started!
GENERAL
JOEY DREW STUDIOS®
The following is not meant to be seen
In the pause menu, the game’s version is listed as v4.1.4 in the bottom right corner. This stays the same even after updates.
EXTERIOR (outside the building)
- CONCEAL
- DISCOVER
- ILLUSION
- REEL LIFE
- REGRET
- REMEMBER
Wheelchair
To the left of the building’s entrance is a wheelchair which looks nearly identical to the one that briefly appeared in Henry’s hallucination/flashback at the very end of BATIM CH1. Also a small metal plate with the number 34. This wheelchair also appears in the podium room, and temporarily disappears or changes its position with some updates.
Condemned + Loop Arrow
There are actually two buildings in the exterior, one condemned (barricaded) and one not. In some updates, when first launching the game, you will spawn in front of the condemned one, making you unable to progress. In this case, there will be an arrow in front of you on the ground where you spawn, pointing in the opposite direction. Follow this arrow to reach the other house, which should be unlocked. The real house should not have an arrow by the archway.
A way to identify whether the building is condemned is to check if the chimney will explode with smoke when you approach the building. If it does, it’s the real house (and vice versa).
In some updates, if you get killed by the Ink Demon, you will spawn in front of the condemned building instead of the real one. You’ll have to follow the loop arrow to make your way back to the real building.
Also, if you approach the barricaded doorway you can hear sounds of the Ink Machine running.
Moving Furniture + Toy Train
First version: no furniture
UPDATE: directly left of the gate
UPDATE: right of the gate, at the trigger for the lightning strike
UPDATE: still right but even closer to the building
UPDATE: chair was replaced by a sofa and moved to the left of the building.
UPDATE: chair and sofa were moved to behind spawn with a table that has a Bacon Soup can on it.
UPDATE: Sofa and table were removed, and the chair has moved further back and to the left.
UPDATE: All furniture has been removed.
In one update, Bendy’s toy train from BATDR could be found to the right of the archway.
Coffins & candles
First version: There is a coffin placed to the left of the building.
UPDATE: There are now two coffins.
UPDATE: There are now three coffins, and one unlit candle on the floor.
UPDATE: There are now three unlit candles.
Current version: There are now five unlit candles placed in a circle.
Ambience
If you listen closely, the exterior ambience plays the track “Hellfire Follies” and grainy film sound effects from BATIM CH1.
STARTING CORRIDOR
When you enter the building for the first time, Ragtime Guffie will stand in the corridor with his back to you, and fades away when you step forward. After meeting him outside the cinema, you can see him sitting on the wheelchair outside the building when you restart the loop. He does not appear in the corridor again unless you quit and restart the game completely.
Roaches/insects
There are squishable roaches in the starting corridor; they make squishing sounds when you step on them. In one update there were also some on the central podium; they have since moved around the podium room.
Pentagram room
A room with the BATIM pentagram on the floor is at the very end of the starting corridor, and gets more complete with each update. The Bendy cutout near the pentagram is currently unbreakable.
HUB AREA
Central podium room
West wing: Oldtime Theater/Cinema
North wing: Teaser screen room
East wing: Riley lore rooms
Target lights
There are several lights in the podium room and cinema that look like bulls-eye targets. Hitting them with cans will make them spin, but right now we don’t know what they do.
Unlocking the cinema
In the podium room, throw three cans into the long tube to unlock the cinema. A bearded old man cartoon character stands by the doorway and greets the player: “Enjoy the show, my friend.” After encountering this character for the first time, if you’re sent back to the beginning of the loop (without quitting the game entirely), he can be seen sitting on the wheelchair outside the house.
Popcorn Sign + Lone Wolf poster + Scythe
At the back of the cinema seats, there is a popcorn sign featuring Chef Buck’s name (who appears in a memo in BATDR). Throwing a can at the sign will break it, and reveal a Boris poster to the wall on your right. In the latest update, the secret scythe from BATIM CH5 was also added.
The poster is an altered form of “Sheep Songs”; notably, “Dark Survival” is crossed out and seems to have been replaced with “Lone Wolf”. Furthermore, on the Steam pages for each Bendy game, the license notes have also been altered: for all Bendy games besides BATDS, the license notes features a new game called “Bendy: Lone Wolf”, which references the poster. Interestingly, in the Steam page for BATDS, “Bendy: Lone Wolf” is still present, but “Boris and the Dark Survival” is now enclosed in quotes and does not have a trademark sign next to its name. This suggests BATDS will be rebranded into “Bendy: Lone Wolf” in order to stay consistent with the naming conventions for Bendy games.
EDIT: This has been confirmed by the devs!
Naming conventions:
“Bendy and the…” = mainline games
“Bendy: …” = other Bendy games
??? = third type
Rave
WARNING: THIS SECRET FEATURES FLASHING LIGHTS
Complete these steps in order first:
- Unlock the cinema. (Throw 3 cans into the tube in the main room. Be mindful of the creepy moving Bendy dummy.)
- Throw a can at the popcorn sign in the cinema to break it.
- Clench all three gloved hands. (1 in cinema, 1 in the indent near the Riley lore rooms, 1 in teaser screen room)
- Consume exactly 25 Bacon Soup cans (NOT beans), or until you hear your character burp. Consuming bean cans will not add to the count. You can eat by pressing the right mouse button while holding a can. From what I know, you have a higher chance of getting Bacon Soup cans than bean cans from the dispenser.
- Throw a can at the Little Devil Darlin’ poster in the cinema to reveal a hole in the wall.
- Interact with the hole to look through it and voila!
You will see the Ink Demon, Twisted Alice, Wilson (cartoon), Sammy Lawrence (cartoon), and the Slicer. This scene is not canon and is intended only as comic relief. This sequence can only be viewed once on a single playthrough. Press Esc to JUST STOP!
Cinema screen
Throw a can at the cinema screen to trigger a scene that probably shows someone being infected by the corrupted ink, with the subliminal messages SUBMIT, REJECT, and the Gent logo.
In one update an animated dancing Bendy appeared on the screen. This has since been removed.
Ink Demon Jumpscare
There are currently 3 ways to trigger an Ink Demon jumpscare:
- Destroy all Bendy cutouts: 2 in the teaser screen room, 4 in the podium room, 2 in the cinema
- Going AFK for too long (even when pausing the game)
- Pressing Shift+K+4+1+4 (this can be useful when you need to restart)
In some updates, if you get killed you will respawn in front of the condemned building. You’ll need to follow the loop arrow to get back to the real one.
Ragtime Guffie Poster
If you consume a can of beans, a new cartoon poster will appear beside the doorway to the teaser/screen room. It shows the bearded old man who stands outside the cinema, confirming his name to be Ragtime Guffie. If you are facing the doorway when you eat the beans, you have to look away and turn back again for the poster to appear.
Ragtime Guffie Game Crash
If you hit Ragtime Guffie (when he is standing outside the cinema) with cans enough times he will explode and cause the game to crash. This can be done with any type of can (Bacon Soup, beans, golden).
Mystery Box
In the teaser screen room, pressing the interact button (E on the keyboard) on the question mark box 414 times will cause the box to float briefly and fall down again.
Originally the box was placed on a ledge to your right as you enter the teaser screen room. It has now been moved to the left.
Bendy Popcorn Bin (removed)
In one update, a Bendy trash bin appeared on top of the circular podium. Throwing at least ten cans into its mouth will make it endlessly spew popcorn.
Happy 414
On launch day (14 April 2024) the text on the “Escape Your Cage” banner in the podium room was briefly changed to “Happy 414”.
Golden Bacon Soup
When you get soup cans from the dispenser, there is a small chance you will receive a golden glowing Bacon Soup can. There are currently a few things you can do with it:
1. Throwing a golden can at the Bendy mannequin will make it explode, and the game restarts. When you respawn, a huge version of the mannequin will appear behind you and explode when you look at it, shaking the screen violently. After a bit the game crashes.
2. Walk up to the Bendy mannequin while holding the golden can (don’t throw/drop it). The mannequin will explode and you will be sent back to the start, with the golden can still in hand. The Bendy dummy now appears in the starting corridor, in an alcove on your right, but does not move. You can take the can to the pentagram room at the end of the corridor, but you currently cannot break the Bendy cutout.
Peek-a-boo Bendy
A Bendy cutout sometimes peeks at you through the rectangular hole next to the teaser screen room door. It will disappear if you approach it.
Podium Lights
The lights (8 in total) around the podium occasionally change.
First version: 2 red, 1 white, 1 red, 4 white
UPDATE: 1 red 7 white
UPDATE: 1 white 7 red
UPDATE: 3 white 5 red
Current version: all white
Objects on the podium
First version: nothing
UPDATE: a chair
UPDATE: a weird machine
UPDATE: Bendy popcorn bin
UPDATE: nothing
UPDATE: roaches
UPDATE: nothing
Current version: wheelchair (there is currently a bug where the wheelchair disappears if you face it in a certain direction)
Bendy Puppet/Dummy
A new Bendy puppet/dummy spawns and follows you around the main room when you look away. It activates when you first enter the podium room. It is unable to enter any of the branching rooms (cinema, teaser room, Riley lore rooms).
The dummy also whispers muffled and reversed audio only if you face away from it and let it approach you. Editing and isolating the audio reveals a voice (possibly Henry’s) whispering the lyrics to DAGames’s song “Build Our Machine”.
UPDATE: The dummy now stays near the Riley lore rooms door by default and only starts to move after you open the cinema.
UPDATE: The dummy is now completely missing and only appears after you open the cinema.
UPDATE: The dummy now functions as it originally did, activating once you enter the podium room.
RILEY LORE SEQUENCE
You will be transported into a black void with a door in front of you. Enter and pick up the crayon on the family portrait. Make a height measurement (age 6) on the wall. Then proceed to draw on all pages scattered on the floor. After a bit you will hear car sounds, followed by screams and glass breaking.
The door behind you will open. Go to the end of the school corridor. After hearing the conversation with the school psychologist, turn around and a sofa with a gramophone should appear in front of you. After a while the door should open again.
Return to the previous room. Draw another measurement (age 17), pick up the piece of paper from the sofa and place it on the drawing desk, then interact with it once to draw on it. Approach the door and a letter should slide in. Pick up the letter and your drawing, then go through the door. In Joey Drew Studios, put your drawing on all the tables. A sudden sound will play when you place the fourth one. When you place the last one Joey’s office should light up. Pick up the letter in front of Joey’s office, head back through the Gent doorway, and pick up the can in front of you. The screen cuts to black, and this should send you back to the start of the game.
Car Chase (part of Riley lore sequence)
Enter the building again, but this time go straight ahead once you enter. The path to the ink tunnel and podium room will be blocked at this time. Turn left at the end of the corridor to encounter the taxi. There will be no way to escape it. Once you get run over the game progresses, and you can reenter the ink tunnel and podium room again.
TEASER COMBINATIONS
Currently we have 5 of them.
Default setting: Dudley & Boris evil
Bendy & Boris evil: Ink monster
Alice & Dudley evil: Silent City – “This is evil.”
All evil: Bendy 3 (hinting that Shipahoy Dudley *might* make a comeback)
Bendy evil: Silent City cat
Bendy, Boris, Alice evil: Lone Wolf (Boris with a frying pan)
Turn everyone evil except Bendy, then throw a can at the light in the ceiling to hear the Projectionist’s screech.
That’s all for now, folks! 😀
