Are you ready to conquer all the achievements in Ale & Tale Tavern? Look no further, this guide will help you achieve 100% completion in no time!
Quick Aside
As of right now, I don’t think this game is possible to 100%. We did everything, maxed out everything, and made every possible potion combination we could come up with (to the point we made a spreadsheet to ensure we weren’t crazy). I think the “make every potion” achievement is bugged and currently impossible to achieve. Feel free to check our work, we got every other achievement and have all the potion recipes listed down below. I hope we are wrong! But for now, I feel comfortable concluding that it is not possible.
Beyond that, this is my first guide, and I don’t think I’ll do this very often but its worth saying that while this is definitely a small in scope game from a small and fresh dev team, its worth playing blind (ish) and not just gunning for 100%. This is just to be a reference for anyone that gets stuck on a certain achievement or needs a nudge in the right direction. Most of the achievements we got by just playing and we only started focusing on the 100% for the last few when we realized how close we were.
If someone finds the hidden magical potion that definitely exists OR the devs patch the achievement to be unlockable, I’ll update this guide to reflect that.
We played in a group of 4, myself https://twitch.tv/notabsolutelysure Jazzy https://twitch.tv/jazzywazzytv and Killian https://twitch.tv/killkilltv and our friend Suji kinda unintentionally blasted through the game in 7-8ish hours. We had a good time and I’d appreciate it if you’d drop by and say hi to any of us. Anyways, here’s the guide.
General Tips
IF YOU ARE PLAYING WITH A GROUP please, please god be smarter than us and just press T at the start. This lets you see where your tavern and teammates are at all times, its a huge help.
Hold onto apple cores for the compost bin, can make the farming achievements go really fast if you arent just doing farming passively as you go.
Only do 2 order deliveries at a time or so or they’ll time out.
Save the BIG MaxHP potion and Phys Reduc potion to use together for an achievement.
Kill every bear, spider and turtle you see because they hold all the most annoying alchemy ingredients.
You can close the shop with the sign out front at any time if you feel overwhelmed.
Keep an eye on the XP and gold gain when you open because it changes if you sell too much of one thing so keep a diverse menu.
Auto-dishwashers are VERY worth it
Decorations had no impact on gameplay that we saw (not noticeable at least) but they are pretty swaggy
Keep a hammer and weapon on you at all times
Dying only costs money, you keep your items
If you have a full group, having someone farming/ gathering and someone questing while 2 people cook/brew and serve was great for us, kept everything running at all times.
You can put food and drinks in your inventory while serving, they dont spoil or go bad and you can pick up and hang onto dirty dishes the same way. It doesnt have to be on your hotbar either, just in your inventory.
Investing into the newer brewing and cooking options as you get them will help a lot, its not worth holding off too long to build up a backlog, you get money pretty fast from new methods.
If something just isn’t spawning for you, restarting the server usually fixed it for us.
Secret recipe location, not needed for 100% (behind the waterfall)
Also, if you want to farm ghoul ingredients, don’t kill the boss, you will be locked out permanently from the cave once you beat it.
Achievements
Let the light in!: Light the candle in the tavern lobby
Middle class: Earn 1000 Money
So what’s next?: Complete the tutorial (just follow the quests as they pop up, tab to access them if they disappear)
Almost not burnt: 50 dishes cooked
Wet work: wash 50 dishes
No pay, no food!: Fight off a zombie wave (these attack at night every few days, they all appear in groups of 3-5 usually, have a sword or axe on you to fight them off at all times)
Hail the Magic weed!: Scarecrow quest complete (scarecrow is in the backyard of the tavern, pretty easy just follow instructions as they come and it’ll unlock gardening. Gardening is admittedly a pain in the ass but it can be worth doing if you have a larger group like we did)
It’s much more comfortable this way: Place a decoration (you get these all over, sometimes from loot barrels/boxes out in the open, sometimes from enemies)
Culinary: Serve 100 dishes
Say no to alcohol: Beat a drunken customer out of your tavern using a broom (whack whack whack until they leave)
Dad taught me: Fix 5 devices (This one requires the hammer and occasionally the watering can to put out fires. You just whack the hammer on whatever’s spewing steam or water until its fixed by clicking fast and the watering can just have the crosshair directly on the fire, sounds simple but it can be kinda finicky with the hitbox)
Gardener of the month: Harvested 25 plants. Pretty straightforward, you get seeds all over, you can buy them from the shop outside the front door too if you need them.
The Afterlife exists: Die. You uh… you die for this one 🙂
Golden hands: Fix 10 devices (they break all the time, this will happen over time)
I’ll feed the whole world!: 100 dishes cooked
Got a bunch of blisters: Delivered 10 orders. This will have you take a certain food or drink to somewhere marked on the map.
Gardener of the Year: Harvest 50 plants
Wealthy: Earn 10,000 money
Invisible walls. Nor surprising!: Just run in one direction until you hit an invisible wall at the edge of the map
Culimator!: Served 250 dishes
Go home fiend: Killed 25 enemies
I let the music speak: Buy the jukebox from the shop out front
The wait wasn’t that long: Give the dish to the customer at the last moment (5seconds)
Yeah, I’m going, I’m going!: Ring the bell on the main bar in the tavern 100 times
Only male deer grow antlers: Follow the quest markers, mostly in Swamp but can be all over, there are nests in the sky you knock down and then fight wolves. Wants a boar steak at the end.
The greatest gardener in history.: Harvest 100 plants
Too smart to become a sausage: Talk to the cow right to the side of the barn, you have to remove some junk, get some food and items together (it all shows up in a list on screen for you) and then head north to the bees biome and burn them down using a torch and fight the bees that come after you. This unlocks animal breeding, so pigs and chickens. They only breed if there’s “slots” open so make sure to cull them now and then and keep the troughs full
The wild boar population is under threat: Kill 25 boars. They’re all over, drop the hatchet on 25. Just circling them keeps them from hitting you
I should not drink at work: Drink alcohol (I think they meant liquor, whiskey/bourbon is what got us this achievement, not beer or ale)
I said, go home, fiend: Kill 50 enemies
It was worth it: Eat an amanita mushroom, you find these all over the map, gobble one, it poisons you though so do it close to home if you’re worried
Culinosaurus Rex!: Serve 500 dishes
Full pockets: Break 50 loot crates. You find these out in the wild, have an axe, sword, or any weapon to crack em open
Wore my feet out: Deliver 25 orders. We had closed the Tavern (sign out front) and had our other members run orders while we gardened and stocked up on resources. Nice money and works on the achievement.
It’s not about the cabbage?: 10 animals were born. This goes for the 25 animals born achievement as well, just make sure the troughs are filled and that there is less than 10 chickens or (I think) 4 pigs at any time so more get made. We usually had 2 pigs and like 4 or 5 chickens and got this one naturally.
You are a new dungeon master!: Kill the cave boss. To find the cave and clear it, follow the river to its source and you’ll find a cave. This boss can be a bit of a pain, if you’ve been experimenting with all the stuff you get from quests, having potions to give you health/damage reduction/just general food and a LOT of ammo for the musket does a lot here. I wouldn’t recommend melee, he hits for 60 per hit. Just circle the arena shooting him and walking the train of enemies around like COD Zombies. Once the big bad dies, all the other monsters die too so just focus on him. Loot around after, grab the trophy and there’s a portal back home underground behind the arena.
High price for natural urges: Follow the quest marker to him and the orc camp that has all of his wheels is right behind him. He also wants you to clean his cart so have a broom on you, and then he wants food as well. If someone can remember leave a comment and I’ll update the guide but I believe it was 10 barley bread and a keg of beer.
Fake fairy: Fairy is in the swamp, theres a 3 wave tower defense with 3 portals. 1st wave has 1 portal, 2 has 2 portals and 3 has 3 portals. If you have a group, pick a portal per person, if not, sit on the altar with a gun and a bunch of ammo and become a turret yourself.
And where is the goldfish?: Catch 10 fish, walk to the left of the tavern in a straight line to hit the water if you’re looking at the front door, you can fish anywhere in the water. You have to do the mermaid quest line to get access to fishing rods and fishing at large.
Wanted to fry the meat, but fried the house: His house is on fire and you need to bring a watering can or 2 (10 spots, so dont miss or bring 2) 3 broken boxes have to be removed so bring an axe, and 12 soot spots that need to be cleaned with a broom. He wants you to buy a double burner stove and round table afterwards, and then you need 20 potatoes, 10 eggs and 10 raw pork and he’s happy. What a diva.
Talking fish!: Mermaid quest! Gives you a fishing rod, you need 3 pufferfish, bear liver, and you need the alchemy lab from the Herbalists quest (further down) to combine the pufferfish and bear liver for poison resist potions. Return to the coast, use the potion to walk into the green mists with an axe and destroy the logs and then pick up the stones and return them to the mermaid. She wants you to put them on the altar next to the waterfall which is right next to the coast, each stone summoned a turtle for us (enemy) so be ready for a fight. Needs trout soup at the end of the quest.
Why do all the potions smell so bad?: Create 10 potions, can be 10 of the same
I need a vacation: All quests complete
The classic 33 misfortunes: Die 33 times, pretty straightforward.
Fiend! Disappear: Killed 100 enemies
I still need my 3 wishes: Catch 25 fish, should be able to do on one fishing rod’s worth of durability
Don’t look under the pot: Herbalist quest complete. 2 bears outside her cottage, kill them. Then you need to sell a potion she gives you to the merchant, then she wants food from you 3 separate times. (it’ll pop up on your screen, I forget what exactly she wants but she will give you the exact things she needs in a checklist in your quest tab) There’s bears outside pretty much every time you go back, and one of the times you will need to plant 3 mandrakes in the garden out back.
Achievements Part 2
Oligarch! Why do you need so much?: Earned 100,000 money.
Now it’s not scary!: Light every torch in the cave before the big bad boss. Check all the corners, walls, pillars AND gates for this one, they’re everywhere and just boop the sconces with a torch to light them. This one took us a few times walking up and down the cave to find the one we were missing.
It’s not about the cabbage: 25 animals were born. Same as before, just more. Keep space open, troughs full, keep culling and it’ll happen over time.
Is that you, Rapunzel?: At the hermit house, jump to the roof with the feather potion (recipes below) and then to the window.
The smell doesn’t matter when the potion’s done right: Create 25 potions of any kind
Guys, calm down, it’s just me, and there are many of you!: 20 customers at one time. As you level up and get more space just pop down more of the 4 seater tables until you can hold 20 customers at once and it’ll happen.
Looks like I’m going to live forever: Use the Big MaxHP potion and Physical Damage resist potion at the same time (just use this when you fight the boss, you can make them or find them from loot crates and enemies)
Ready for the school of mages!: Created all the potions. This one took us awhile, all of the recipes down below were lovingly put together by (mostly) our friend Sujidu who went buckwild with a spreadsheet to try and figure it out. Now you don’t have to create as much slop from wrong combinations as we did! We gave up, we are fairly confident this is impossible as detailed at the start of the guide and below. Please check our work! We really hope we’re wrong.
Potions
Here is all the ingredients we tried and the potions we made. We could not find any other potions, and all the potions we found we were able to solve the recipe for. Suji did a psycho spreadsheet because we were all going psycho so feel free to check our work, but we found 14 potions that were able to be made. We made every other food and potion and got literally every nook and cranny of the game cleared out of content, so who knows!
