The Story (1/2)
Savesta – “Why are we foraging through the forest again? I really hope it’s not getting too la- ” chinking
Suddenly, Savesta runs into a chainlink fence. The friends become curious as to why there is a fence in the middle of a dense forest. As they use a knife to slash open an entrance, they notice an entrance to a bunker with the doors blown off, with a small, discolored crater in the dirt with the steel doors deformed on opposite sides of the bunker. The doors seem to have had a logo on them, though it had since been scratched off. Inside the bunker, all they saw was an infirmary-like room with a lightbulb dangling from the ceiling while on the fritz.
Savesta remarked: – “I reckon it is just an abandoned nuclear bunker from the Cold War. There’s definitely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in here for us.”
But Kumala argued against it: – “There’s no way it’s just a pure waste of time, there might at least be something. Come on, lets go.”
As Kumala ventured deeper into the room, he failed to spot a bottom shelf, tripping over it onto some boxes that were inconspicuously stacked against a wall. As Kumala gathered his bearings, he realized that there was more to this bunker. He noticed a light switch, though it seemed to be more advanced for the time period that this bunker was seemingly built in. As he turned it on, They understood that this is no ordinary bunker. That opening behind the boxes had led to a massive laboratory. It seemed to have been in use not too long ago, yet still abandoned. As the friends were ecstatic and preparing to take the lab equipment to sell it later, a light flickers inside of a nearby room. They look back to see what was in that room through the glass, only to spot a mass of red and black mass of flesh vaguely in the shape of a humanoid resting against a wall.
Kumala: – “..what the ♥♥♥♥ is that?”
Savesta: – “I feel like we may have bitten off more than we can chew..”
Kumala turns around: – “Hold on, why does the pile of ♥♥♥♥ in this vial resemble that thi- …why did the stuff just move..?”
Everywhere they looked, it raised more questions than answers. They both turned their backs to the glass to discuss, unaware that the mass had woken up. It lunged at the glass and began clawing at it. Both of them frozen in fear, fight or flight activated, didn’t know what to do. They managed to get ahold of themselves, though as they began to run away, they heard something harrowing –
SHATTER
As the mass cried out, Kumala and Savesta began running. Too scared to look back, they had their eyes set on the exit, when Savesta tripped, twisting his ankle. Kumala unable to help, had to leave his friend behind. Savesta in his last moments, couldn’t do anything but cry out to Kumala while the Husk was closing the distance. Kumala made it out, though Savesta had been brutally murdered and “betrayed” by his best friend.
Kumala kept running and running, unable to stop balling his eyes out from the guilt. He sat on a rock until he calmed down. After he left the forest, he tried his best to forget what had happened earlier and returned home.
As he was putting the vial away, he finally noticed a small note attached to the top of the vial.
It read: – “This is our best version of what we’re cooking up for Operation ███████████. This version, named BN-004 or the Plague is insanely contagious, if it is contained in anything but an airtight container, it will spread, please handle with the utmost care. Best Regards, Dr. Otto ████████ of ███████“
Kumala: – “I know I have to do something, I just don’t know if I can, or better yet, if I should. Whoever these people are, they are definitely too much for me to handle and I don’t think I’m arrogant enough to try to do anything.”
During this time, the “Plague” had already spread to every part of Savesta’s corpse. After the Plague took over the nervous system, it struggled to maintain control, when it realized that Savesta was the only know host to keep their consciousness after being infected. Savesta awoke, understanding that he had control over the Plague.
Over the next few months, He learned how to create Husks without a living host, all connected to eachother via a hivemind. The hostless Husks are not weak by any sense of the word, though they are significantly weaker than ones with a human host. As well as makeshift bio-mechanical weapons comprised entirely of the Plague.
Soon, as night fell, he and his army laid siege on the nearby city, still seeking revenge for his betrayal.
As soon as they exited the forest, they began attacking civilians and destroying infrastructure. The Police had tried to maintain control, though they were quickly overrun by the sheer power of the army. Soon, the US Army had been called in.
Due to the pure brute power of the Flesh Army, desperate times called for desperate measure and the Pentagon had to deploy their prototype armor and weapons, still with their kinks and flaws. The US Army had been able to push back Savesta’s army, though failures in the weaponry and armor had costed the lives of many soldiers, to the point where Savesta’s army began regaining control.
Again, the Pentagon ordered the use of another ace up the Army’s sleeve. Within minutes, 32 soldiers had volunteered to be dosed with a serum that promised to give the user superhuman abilities. 30 of the soldiers died in pain due to the extreme mutations caused by the serum, proving to be fatal. 2 had lived, though 1 of them had only gained the ability to hear better.
The only soldier who had successfully gained a useful power got the ability to fly, superhuman strength, durability, speed and endurance. Wasting no time, flying straight through a wall onto the battlefield, began to make a significant dent in Savesta’s army. Savesta had been watching from afar and understood that he was fighting an uphill battle with the introduction of the Superpowered being, blending in with the fleeing crowds, reached Kumala’s apartment building.
Using his tendrils, he scaled the side of the building onto Kumala’s balcony. During all of this, Kumala had been hiding out in his home, looking down at the commotion through his windows. When he turned around to flee, hoping that the supe had bought him enough time to be able to get out safe, He saw Savesta, clear as day, standing infront of his front door.
Kumala, confused and bewildered: – “S- Savesta..? Is that really you?”
Savesta, sarcastically: – “Well, of course it’s me. You thought everything was alright after you left me to die like a DOG, that I wouldn’t come back to kill you in the very way you ‘killed’ me?”
Kumala: – “I’m so sorry for what I did, It was running so quickly that I couldn’t have picked you up in time to save us both.. It was either me or no one, I had no choice, believe me!”
Savesta sees Kumala begging on his knees for forgiveness while hugging his legs, wants to accept his apology, though the Plague whispers in his ears with an echoing voice:
– “You’ve wanted his head on a stick for SOOOO long and now is when you change your mind? When he’s right infront of you? You don’t have a choice. Kill him. Kill him. Kill him. Kill him. Kill him. Kill him. Kill him.“
Savesta: – “NO! I’ve never thought about how he had no choice, he wasn’t naive enough to think he could save us both! He had no cho- Wait, why can’t I move my body anymore?! Wait, NO!“
The Story (2/2)
Kumala understanding that this is his chance to flee, gets up, grabs his jacket, keys and the vial and limps out of his home and takes the elevator all the way down to the parking garage, gets in his car and puts the pedal to the medal, smashing straight through the boom barrier and heads for the hills.
The Plague, feeling the Mecha’s grip around their body getting tighter and knowing it will be crushed if it doesn’t act, take one of it’s sharp tendrils and cuts the fingers off of the hand holding them to free itself and climbs up the arm of the Mecha, reaching the Nuclear Reactor powering it.
They summon all Husks in their vicinity to attack the legs of the Mecha, causing it to fall due to the imbalance they created. After it fell, All of the Husks were commanded to attack the Reactor.
Soon, the Reactor had reached a critical state and would soon blow.
The Plague realizing that it was too arrogant to understand it would be eradicated by the explosion, tries to run away, though, it would already be too late.
The reactor blew up, destroying the entire city and all soldiers, Husks, building and people. Savesta’s body was also in the blast radius. getting hit by the blast and being buried in rubble.
Kumala, who had already managed to leave, looks back in horror to see the Mushroom Cloud towering over the city. He lets one tear run down his face and gets back in his car, not knowing what was in store for him next.
Kumala suddenly hit the breaks and thought a little more and decided to hold the note on the vial infront of a light, thinking it would be worth shot to see the redacted text, but doubting it would work.
To his surprise, he saw the redacted text peeking through – Operation Black Needle, By Dr. Otto Björnson of Argosec.
He suddenly came to the realization that the armor and weaponry used to fight the husk was made by the same people who made it. He rides off into the sunset, his mind set on getting revenge for the loss of his friend…
…As the camera fades, a shot of the rubble that Savesta was buried under is seen. As the camera moves closer, An arm sticks through the rock.
