This guide includes a way to shave off several attempts at defeating the Nameless Puppet at the end. Keep in mind the strategy described is not a sure thing, though it has proven effective. Also keep in mind that it utilizes speed over power, and that results may vary according to play styles.
Perperation
Weapons
Only one weapon will be needed at minimum. Preferably something that stabs. I have done well with Blind Man’s Double Spear (or, as I like to call it: ‘Pokey’). Daggers can work, but since they deliver such paltry damage, you can ignore them.
Legion Arms
Yes, I did use the plural. Open up the extra arm slot in the P-Organ. This strategy will not work with only one Legion Arm!
One arm should be Aegis: level 2 or higher. Any lower will not suffice. Second arm should be Flamberge. Though it can be at any level, anything less then 2 will make things harder then it has to be.
Medallions
There are three ‘musts’ for this strategy. So I highly recommend you open up one of your medallion slots via the P-Organ.
The most obvious one is the Puppet Destroyer’s medallion. There’s a reason why ‘puppet’ is in the name.
Others that are good to think about are the Iron Wall, Advance (higher grade is better, but watch the weight), Strength or Technique, or even that one with the butterfly on it.
Parts
Frames are pretty self explainetory. Get the toughest one you can. Nameless delivers no status damage, so don’t worry about what type of radiation cover you have. Since most attacks are slashing in nature, it’s best to have a liner that reduces such damage.
Belt
For the upper belt: just the pulse cell, and the legion magazines. Flipping through any more can take several precious seconds. Also, I have vision problems, so glancing from the fight to my belts can eat up time, don’t know if this will actually effect everyone the same way, but try at your own peril.
The lower belt, along with Gemini, is just the grinder (with the electric grindstone) and possibly the lesser electric blitz grindstone (though not neccissary). There isn’t any need for anything more.
Bag
In your bag, stock the maximum number of Throwing Cells, Thermite, Acid Bottles, and Shotputs.
Party
Phase 1
Do not advance! If you do not have a weapon with natural electric attack, now’s the time to use that grindstone. That thing’s at its slowest in this phase, so getting enough distance shouldn’t be too hard.
Let the ugly thing come to you. But before that happens, block with Aegis! Now, this is why you need level 2 on this arm: keep hitting it while you have the shield up. You may choose to use your fable slots, but only once! And only when the thing flinches. Every other time, use a legion magazine, because you’re goinna need it.
It doesn’t need to be said, but I’ll say it anyway. Only dodge when it glows red. But keep up the blocking and attacking, and you’ll get though phase 1.
Enjoy the cutscene while you can…
Phase 2
Now, this phase is going to need some deconstruction, so take notes:
First, change out Aegis for Flamberge right away.
Badgers
There are three types of moves that are the thing’s standard: Digging Badger, Crazy Badger, and Angry Badger, names so because they can appear simmilar. You can dodge all of them by running in a curved line away from it. The Digging Badger ends with a wide slash with both blades, don’t use the Flamberge after this. Crazy Badger Has many forward and upward jabs, do not use Flamberge after this move. Angry Badger ends with it slamming its sword against the ground, this is the only Badger move where you can use the Flamberge, but be quick about it. Standard procedure is that once the thing is standing up and uncoupled their weapon, its a good idea to run.
You will already realize you will be doing a lot of running.
Rhino
It often opens with this. You will recognize when this move is about to be executed when it crouches, draws its swords in, and its eyes flash yellow. When this happens, run to the left or right, but not to far, or not too close. Use the Flamberge, then get out. The monster is rather slow to recoup after this attack, so you can get a lot of damage in before you have to hoof it.
Shrike
This is that one where you get impaled and a nice close up of the Nameless Puppet; possibly bad-mouthing you. You know when this move is about to happen when its eyes flash red. Get as much distance as you can. Once it lunges and finds nothing on the end of its sword, get in fast and burn that ugly thing.
Scorpion
This move is similar, though it happens in shorter bursts; twice! The first lunge is easy to dodge with distance, but if you find you can’t for the second, run away to the side, or even around. But, be warned, it will finish this move by jumping up and driving its sword into the ground, causing area damage. If you are to close, you can jump to avoid this damage, you are already running as it is. The thing also takes awhile to get going after this move. Get in some good damage while you can.
Bear Claw
The move where it slams the ground with its sword, issuing three blades of energy away from it. This move is easily dodged with distance. Don’t get in here though, the thing recovers fast.
Falling Tree
A move I don’t see often, possibly because it’s strictly a counter move. Red energy extends the blade of that thing allowing for an increased range for a swing attack. This comes in both vertical and horizontal forms. It is best to give the monster a wide berth after both kinds.
Tsunami
The one happens so fast, I cannot describe what to look for. Though you will recognize it when it heads for you, twirling around like a metal twister. This move only heads in a straight direction, so you need only to move aside. But, if you are too close, it may finish up with another. Do not go in for any damage!
Falcon
A move that I consider the most heinous of them all! With this move, it jumps up into the air and dive bombs you, its swords outstretched like wings. When this happens, run towards it.
Put all this into account, and you will notice the Nameless Puppet’s health go down slowly, but steadily.
So, you might be wondering: ‘what about those bombs in my extra belt?’ Only use them when the health of the enemy is at a certain point. With maximum throwing objects (8), that should be just after the ‘t’ in ‘Puppet’. Depending on how many bombs you have, this may be lower.
Remember to keep an eye on your Legion Arm, and use those magazines conservatively. Only pause to use the magazine, or even the pulse cell only right after an attack, and never when it is walking towards you, or even after you’ve attacked!
And good luck! You’ll be needing it.
