Easy Newbie build that teaches some gameplay mechanics.
Build Rationale
Culture, Class, Deity
I choose Imp, first it has a -2 inflexibility something that is useful for spellcasters as inflexibility reduces both speed and will bonuses, for a Spell caster you want to be as fast and as unencumbered as you can, also you want to be able to deal and heal as high as you can
I went for sorcerer, the reason is that it has a long range attack on stand and on hit
You could also go for Zealot
I choose Ashem, the main reason is that it increases survivability by offering 3 Prayers that are easy to charge and you should always keep them full as in the case you are overwhelmed by enemies or make a mistake your deity will ressurect you as long as at least 1 prayer is fully charged, this is known in the game as Divine intervention
Skills
- Projection: this is your main skill and the one that will become your force multiplier, as description says it perform a hit against 1 enemy at a range of 4, meaning that our nuker will be able to perform a number of hits on a 4 range radius, this is the one you want as high as possible.
- Asi Malak and Astrokinesis : will we will take 1 point each the main thing is that these skills activate on hit meaning that you will be dealing a total of 5 instances of Astral Damage per each stand action per skill of projection. While you could add extra points to increase damage we will scale it with other skill.
- CryoKinesis or Vinakinesis : will we will take 1 point in only one of the these, Vinakinesis might be better for this build but Cryo does the work it is a matter of personal preference, the main objective of these skills is the speed reduction, by reducing the speed of enemies on hit it reduces the number of actions an enemy can commit on turn, this is extremely useful on the final boss.
- ]Pyromancy : we will be making full use of this skill, these is the second as high as possible you want, as it serves a thrice purpose, first it creates a 2 radius perimeter of fire damage, second it applies scorched status on enemies and thrice it scales astral, lighting, and fire damage by the total scorched status the enemy has by the total skill level, meaning that not only does this skill damages adversaries, but also scales the damage of 3 elements
The rest are optional I went for:
- Fire Healing: Excelent skill that scales pretty well with the current build, as it provides bountiful healing when fire damage is done, but also applies more scoched status on enemies increasing the damage scale factor.
- AstroStoicism: This is purely optional but it increases survivability a lot, by providing a random teleport on being damaged it might allow you to escape a situation where you are overwhelmed or got pinned down by a ranged attacker, you could change it to another skill.
With this skills you have a quick escape in case of being targeted with AstroStoicism, you have a strong debuff of enemies using CryoKinesis or Vinakinesis and also you have a scalable damage system, by increasing the number of hits using Projection you are multiplying the number of damage dealing of Astral Damage that will be converted to a random element due to the Imp skill of applying random damage, in that regard your attacks will become unaffected by resistances making this build a universal nuker, Fire Healing will increase your survivability greatly at higher levels while scaling damage with applications of scorched.
Equipment
- Fire Staff: Deals damage to 5 enemies to enemies at any range, increasing the total Damage Dealt, remember that the element will be changed to a random one
- Fait Shillelag: its main function is to apply another debuf in the form of Entanglement, random Damage Dealth also deal physical damage, so along with Freeze you will apply Entanglement thus further decreasing enemy speed
- Jade Bracer: spawns minions that can be used as a source of healing when dealing fire damage, but also act as a potential buffer between the caster and the rest of the enemies
- Robe of Light: extremely useful body armor, add extra dodge but also offers another debuff for enemies in the form of blind, thus greatly increasing your survivability
- Sash: use any sash that re-applies damage for extra damage and potential healing.
These Items can be obtained in the first levels of each path, thus making the build viable at and early stage.
Stats
- Str: add enough to remain unencumbered, encumbrance will be a critical factor and you could die easily if this is not properly managed.
- will: increase until 15 or 20, more helps but on a regular path you might want to cap it at 15-25 depending on the cycle you are playing.
- dex: both are as important as willpower, dex will increase the number of action the caster can perform per game turn, thus it greatly increases the numbers of attacks per turn, also the increase in speed allows you to have the upper hand against adversaries and relocate in case you have not started in a favorable position.
- vigor: extremely important stat as it increases life, you want to have a high life as possible as it will allow to survive damage dealt by teleporter enemies or ranged oponents, this skill should not be understimated in any build as glass cannons are not viable builds in this game.
Gameplay
Here is an example of the build during an engagement this an enemy with high HP, Cryokinesis and the Vine Staff duff the enemy by destroying its speed thus giving the caster the upper hand in mobility, despite damage being randomized the high number of hits multiplied by damage dealing sources and skills quickly increases the scorched status thus increasing the damage dealt by turn, blindness also applies thus making enemies less likely to hit us.
you can then adjust the parameters of this build to create another caster, the only weakness this build has is that you might start next to a boss or in a room full of high dex enemies leaving you in a complicated situation, but remember you have 3 ressurects if prayers are full ( something that is easy with Ashem ) but also you have AstroStoicism that will teleport you away in case you get damaged.
