A complete walk-through the entirety of the YIIK I.V. experience from beginning to end, and beyond.
INTRODUCTION
Let me know if you have any questions, corrections, etc., thanks for reading!
Credits for the icon for the guide is @lolotte.bsky.social on Bluesky, @Lolotte_C on vgen.
(Rest of chapter 3 will be uploaded after I see a couple of people on YIIK’s official discord get to Chapter 4, etc for the rest.)
THE BLACKENED POND
– Talk to the giant baby head in the back there. This will give your first FIELD CARD. Field cards are puzzle pieces to be used throughout this sections with this NAMELESS CHILD. You will trade them for different cards, each with different uses. All Nameless Child sections will have these, and you can see which you have in the top right corner of your screen at any time. Pausing the game and opening the cards icon will give you a brief description of any field cards you currently have on you.
– Go to the gate on the opposite side. With your field card, the gate shall now automatically open up. From here, you are greeted by a four different ways to go from here, including going back. Go to the right from here.
– Speak with the orange man at the end of the path. He tells you to Bathe in fire, and by god that is what you need to do right about now. This removes your first field card, the Heart card.
Now, speak with the orange man once more. He tells you to “Ascend the mountain to receive your name”. A jump pad to your right opens up, just follow the linear path from here.
– At the end of the path, you will speak to a mysterious angel figure. They look familiar…
– The angel gives you a new FIELD CARD, your NAME. Your sense of self. Head back down the mountain from here. Once you return to the crossroads, head south. The yellow man tells you to seek out the Good Brother.
– Going further down from here, you will have two paths, one to the left, leading towards a blonde haired man, and one towards the right. This bizarre Golden Alpaca in the way warns against traveling “behind the rock” for now, so let’s go towards the blonde haired man instead for now.
– During the cutscene, you seemed to have stepped on cat ♥♥♥♥. This gives you the FIELD CARD of Squeaky Shoes, which makes your footsteps have a silly noise. Follow the Good Brother.
– Seems like the Handsome Krow at the end of this path doesn’t want you here. Go back to the other path. Feel free to save along the way.
– Go against the warnings of the Golden Alpaca, and head behind the rock.
– William here trades in your Name FIELD CARD in exchange for an Invitation FIELD CARD. Leave William’s room, then go back towards the Nameless Krow.
– The Krow moves aside, giving you access to three iron maidens. The first (going left to right) notes to, “Seek that which belongs to you.”, the second notes to, “Find the Self, the Sun, and the Holy Thief.” and last transports you to a new area.
– Speak to the Krow on the TV. This is the replacement for the old introduction to YIIK, where all of these questions would be front-loaded at the beginning of the game. Now, they are spread through a little better. You can disable player consequences here, which changes the outcome of one scene later on in the game depending on your actions. Put in your name from here.
CHAPTER 1: A WILD CAT CHASE
– Head home, back to your family home. It’s the one with the big Welcome Home sign in the front.
– Upon entering home, read the Letter from Mom.
– Before you leave, there is a few things you can grab in home. On the bookshelf right behind you, there is a Collectable Pog. The first of many. Go to the kitchen to the right from here, and grab the medkit, refilling you on many healing items that will help you in combat. Go upstairs, admiring all the pictures on the walls throughout (As a side note, all of this pictures were taken by a family member of the Allanson brothers. This family member is also the basis for Michael.). Go in the first open room, the one with the pink bed, this is your mother’s room, and feel free to steal $20 from the drawer on the right. The room on the far right is your own room. The chest on the far right of your room is where spare items go. You can only hold 10 of the same item at a time, so any extras go to this chest. Keep this in mind for the future, as you are sure to cap on various items from enemies drops, and this chest is the best way to refill on said items.
– Head towards the exit of your home from here –
– Seems someone is calling. Pick up the phone, then leave your home and head east. Right outside of your home now is a npc by the name of Matt Hawkins. You can give him up to $10, which starts a side quest line for later and gets you a sticker. Open up any trashcans you see along the way for good healing items and money like the hobo you are.
– You aren’t required to immediately go east from here, that being said, you can explore Frankton a bit here before heading towards town, or even go far west to enter the world map a bit early, though this is not recommended.
– If you do decide to go west, don’t enter either of the monster dens just yet. You haven’t even done the first proper battle tutorial yet! You can, however, enter into South Town, which lets you grab a few more trash can items and even a shop early. There is very little to do in South Town other than this shop and extra healing items for now.
– Right next to South Town, there is the Forest Meadow. You can’t access a majority of the Forest Meadow for a while, but there is a chest in here that gives you one of the best healing items in the game, an Ambrosia, which fully heals one party member and maxes out the party’s PP meter.
– Now that you have gotten your optional exploring out of the way, head east toward town for real this time.
– During Alex’s monologue about this bizarre cat, the cat grabs your mom’s grocery list! However, there are no invisible walls or anything from here, you can in fact still go east toward town to look through the various shops, and even be able to leave Frankton, though this is somewhat not intentional. There isn’t much to do here, and you can’t even gather enough money to go back to the record store and get an upgrade, either, so enough stalling, go into the forest!
WINDY FIELD
– Battle tutorial time. This battle system is fairly unique, so pay attention!
– A quick thing I want to note that I don’t think the tutorial explains too well is that different attacks have different speeds. Normal attacks, for instance, are nearly instant, and will move the actor to the end of the ACT timeline very quickly, often times letting them get their hit in before the enemy. Knowing the speeds of attacks and how they come out can be a good way to kill enemies before they hit you, or in the case of some abilities, even straight up dodge enemy attacks. KARTA usage will always be a normal speed ability, meaning the actor will go through the timeline at a normal pace. In my opinion, I don’t think using Karta for their offensive powers is usually ever worth it outside of some niche use cases, but feel free to experiment. This system loves experimentation from the player and rewards it nicely, but just keep in mind the defense and stat increases that come from Karta usually mean it is more worth it to have them around than not. This goes for both you and the enemy. Also, this is why abilities that target multiple Karta rows on an enemy, like Alex’s LP Toss, are very powerful.
– Defending is the slowest action in the game, also.
– At the end of the tutorial, there is a somewhat difficult battle that you are likely not going to win. The best way to defeat this foe is item spam where possible, but don’t use too much, you won’t have many spots to refill in the upcoming area, and it is isn’t necessary to defeat this guy.
– Another thing to keep in mind for battles is items are something the game is functionally built around, especially later on. There are no rez items, but powerful healing items aren’t hard to come by, and are usually cheap, too, even aoe heals. Healing items will often even restore your PP too, really making things even easier. Feel free to use and abuse healing items where necessary, the game will demand it much later on, so when you are in pickle, don’t feel bad about using a powerful healing item, as again, they aren’t hard to come by.
– Two items to keep in mind throughout the game are bandages and gauze bandages. Bandages fill one empty slot with a bandage karta, giving you a bit of defense, and gauze bandages fill all empty slots. These items are very powerful, and aren’t hard to come by, so keep them in mind throughout the game.
– After the battle tutorial is complete, head east, going deeper into the forest.
FACTORY HOTEL
– Outside the building, there are a few chests and trash cans, including one that has an Ambrosia. One of the trash cans, to the far left of the ghost girl, has a Collectable Pog.
– Feel free to save outside the building here. There are a few random encounters with weak enemies here. You can dodge most of these, or take them out for healing items and money.
– Head up the ladder to the right, going into the window where the cat resides.
– Go through this linear path, jumping through the tower.
– Follow the cat up the elevator, and you can heal yourself using the sink next to it if you have taken any damage from the random encounters.
– Seems like the power has gone out. Head south from here, picking up the Dungeon Key.
– Head back up and to the left, going towards this locked door.
– Open the door up with the dungeon key. Inside, there is Panda. Along with being your first tool to use for puzzles throughout the world, you can also use him in battle. Panda Barrier is a very powerful defensive ability that can block off all sorts of damage, at the cost of 10 PP, which currently is all you have.
– There are a few items in here to collect from the trash can. Once done, leave the room.
– Go north from here.
– There are two switches here, put Panda on one, and step on the other.
– This opens up the door here.
– Do the same for the next two switches here.
– Going up the ladders, put Panda on the switch that has a hand pointing on it.
– Then, go to the platform on the right, and remove panda, unlocking the path forward.
– Go to the door, open it, and then you’ll be teleported upward.
– Then, drop Panda on the switch below.
– Follow the path forward from here. Sprint jump (if on an xbox controller, hold X to sprint) to jump past small gaps like this.
– Speak to the red glowing woman. Hop across to the trash can to the right before opening the door here.
– Go into the door, and climb the ladder.
– The elevator now has power. Feel free to save. Go up the elevator from here. There is a place to heal here, so also feel free to kill the enemies here for XP, money, and items.
– The chest to the left here has a new weapon for Alex, make sure to equip it, it is a noticeable stat increase this early on.
– Go towards that tower in the back. Kiss the baby. Go inside the tower from here.
– Speak to the girl on the tree here.
– New party member get! From here, leave the way you came.
– Open either door, either way. Then enter.
– Open the left door, then the right door, (or vice versa) then enter look at painting of the Pyramid.
– Before heading south toward the cat, head left for some chests, and then right for even more chests. Various items and money are in here. Then, go south. There is a glowing door with a HP symbol on it, interact with that for a permanent +1 health for Alex.
– Then, speak to Dali. Dali can be used to hit switches from far away, and stun enemies for about 1.5 seconds.
– Go towards the carpet. Then, equip Dali.
– Go to the island to the left. Activate the switch on the left island, then throw Dali to activate the switch on the right island, then get on the carpet, and activate the left island’s switch.
– Once up the carpet, throw Dali to the switch on the platform on the bricks.
– Up the ladder, there is vending machine. Feel free to grab some healing items before the battles ahead.
– Entering to the door on the right, there will be two thrones. When say “Yes” to the prompt given from the throne. Then, go to the crown.
– From here, there will be a two disc shaped rooms with enemies to fight. Find the plugs, and then connect them. Follow the paths that open up from here, then go back to the center room. Save and heal before entering. Make sure also to equip whatever items you have found along the way.
– After the cutscene here, you will be given a yes or no choice. If you say Yes, you will be given a little extra help in this first boss battle, making it a lot easier. You can say no for a bit of an extra challenge though.
– First boss battle time. Wilheim isn’t too bad, especially if you got that bit of extra help in the form of Krow, an extra temporary party member with some moves that can really help destroy Wilheim’s health and Karta.
– First turn, I recommend immediately defending with Alex, then with Krow using Cut deck to destroy all of Wilheim’s Karta. Sammy has the Rally ability, which restores a ton of PP, so spam where necessary. Once Wilheim’s Karta is broken, spam Krow’s throw stick ability and normal attack with Sammy and Alex. Using a Panda Barrier here is good idea to help with defense, which really helps stop Wilheim’s aoe attacks that hit like a truck and can tear throw everyone’s Karta.
– This fight is fairly straightforward. Just once Wilheim’s Karta is broken just keep up that Panda Barrier and as soon as Krow’s Throw Stick ability goes throw he should be dead. If you aren’t using Krow it can be a little more tricky, but just keep up that Panda Barrier and you will take very little damage.
– Go down the elevator from here once Wilheim is defeated.
– After several dramatic cutscenes, Sammy will have been taken from your party.
– You can now leave the Factory Hotel.
– Odd note for speedrunners (?) – During this sequence of you walking Alex back home, if you get to the end of the Windy Field before his monologue is complete, there seems to be an invisible wall that doesn’t disappear until then. Odd stuff.
– Go back home. It’s the one with the big Welcome Home sign by it. Pay no attention to any stray cats that call for your attention along the way this time.
– By your home now is a money tree and a hamburger tree. Feel free to pick for free items (5 Hamburgers) and cash ($25).
– To the immediate left of these trees is a chest with a milkshake in it. Since you now have both Dali and Panda, there are a handful of chests in Frankton you can grab along the way whenever.
– Once home, it is time to Reflect on what just happened even further.
– Now on the computer, you can now explore ONISM1999. Check back here every so often, as this is where to find a lot of side quests. For now, it is all just flavor text and in universe discussion about plot details.
– Go to bed! First dream cutscene.
EXPLORATION
– Once in town, head east back toward the forest.
– After a brief discussion, Michael has now joined your party!
– Head east from here. If you got here early this conversation is mildly funny. Head southeast to get to the camera store. To the left of it is the record shop as well, which doesn’t have any new stock, but if you haven’t gotten the Sergant Salty EP yet, now is the time to do so. You can also invest in a x87 Digital Camera which is slightly better than the stock Disposable Camera that Michael initially gets.
– Head to the Arcade after receiving the camera for Michael. This place is the BOMB. Leave after, though feel free to pick up the single dollar bill on the ground before doing so.
– Head back up to the Factory Hotel. There are now a few random encounters along the way that you can easily kill to get items and xp.
– You will need at least 400 XP by the end of Chapter 1, which so if you havent been killing everything along the way, make sure to kill at a few random enemies here. You’ll also get a free 100 xp at the end of chapter 1 so you should be fine unless you have actively been avoiding enemies.
– Michael in battle by default comes with the skill Photoshoot, a fairly decent aoe ability that has decent speed, and later on you can unlock for him some really powerful debuffing abilities. He also comes with the very powerful Karta “The Seamtress”, which doubles his health and regenerates some lost health each turn. Using The Seamtress Karta heals all allies for full as well. Feel free to move this Karta over to Alex if you want. Photoshoot alone makes Michael honestly very strong in the early game until stronger aoe abilities on other party members are unlocked. Aoe abilities in general in this battle system are very powerful.
– Once you make it back to the Factory Hotel, you can enter through the front door this time instead of having to sneak up through the ladder. Make sure to save first.
– Soul Survivor boss fight time. You can defend or waste time however you like, as all of your attacks won’t do anything to it. You can however use Cat Burgle to get a free item off it that is pretty decent! It hard targets Alex. Once Alex is dead, finish the job and normal attack with Michael.
– Once beaten, check the pot behind where it was for a bit of Ambrosia and Holy Water.
– THIS THING IS DIGITAL, BABY
CHAPTER 2: A CHANCE SURVIVOR
– Head behind the Iron Maidens.
– Don’t touch the dark shadowy figures, they send you to the beginning of this area. Go over to jump pad that is over and around the entrance (refer to the graph to see which jump pads are safe). Then, jump down the building and go to the jump pad that sends you to the Roblox Obby looking area. Don’t fall off the platform, and then you should be able to jump pad back over. Once you have touched the water, your shoes will now be squeaky clean, letting you pass through blue and white figures.
– Go back past the Iron Maidens, and then past the Golden Alpaca and fire hallway.
– Go up the stairs. Talk to the figure behind the tree and the angel.
– Joke field card get.
– Go back to the Golden Alpaca, and speak with him.
– Joke field card removed, Serious Attitude card get. You can now pass through the red and orange figures.
– Head back up the hill, and go into the house.
– Time to name a few more things.
THE MIND DUNGEON AND YOU (AND YOU)
– After uploading the pictures to ONISM, head back into the arcade.
– This battle is actually able to be beaten, though you don’t get much out of doing so. Don’t waste items doing so either way, it really isn’t worth it.
– Once you get the ♥♥♥♥ beaten out of you, go back to Alex’s house, and show Vella the photos.
– Head downstairs and answer the phone.
– After that lengthy exposition sequence, the Mind Dungeon will now be accessible. This is your way to level up, which you can do every time you have 100 xp or more. The requirements to level up never increase, it is always 100 xp to level up. When you kill enemies, you kill them forever, so to get as much xp as possible, be sure to kill as many enemies as you come across.
– You can access the Mind Dungeon from any and all save points in the game when playing as Alex.
– When speaking to Krow, you will be given three different ways to level up. The Self prioritizes bonuses in LIF and STR, The Sun prioritizes bonuses in LUK and SPD, and The Holy Thief prioritizes bonuses in AGL and PRC. I personally like putting most of my levels in The Self and The Holy Thief, with little to none in The Sun.
– The Mind Dungeon is massive. The more field abilities you unlock, the more you can explore in it. This mini pseudo open world area also has upgrades for your characters throughout. Enemies throughout the game will also drop blood bags every so often (and in Chapter 5, every 5th enemy), which is how you upgrade your Karta. Make sure to upgrade your Karta as much as possible, especially the good ones.
– Going down from the initial spawn of the Mind Dungeon, Jocasta is back. They give you your first Karta Key in exchange for your Heart Karta. You can use this first Karta Key on any Golden Egg you find, or use it on the one nearest to Jocasta here. There are several with the moveset you have now you can find and unlock, each with a different Karta inside. Also, feel free to take The Seamtress Karta from Krow for use for you and your party members outside of here.
– The chalices throughout the Mind Dungeon include permanent abilities unlocks for your various party members. If the chalice is transparent, then that chalice is for a party member that you haven’t gotten in your party yet!
– The enemy you have to fight inside the mind dungeon seems a bit familiar…
– Also of note here is there is a jukebox. You can unlock more songs for it by beating the optional enemy challenges throughout the overworld (the “Monster Dens”).
– An in-depth battle tutorial can be access from the Mind Dungeon at any time.
– Though right now you can’t get many, later on you’ll be able to find various blue embryos that you can trade to Jocasta for more Karta Keys. Whenever you unlock a new ability, make sure to explore the Mind Dungeon as much as you can!
– To leave the Mind Dungeon, hold down RB / R1 on your controller, or the [ key on your keyboard, or fall outside the boundary of the map, to return to spawn. Then, just go back to the payphone to save and/or leave.
– After leaving the Mind Dungeon, check ONISM once more. Then, call Vella on the phone in your house.
– Once off the bus, start heading to Wind Town. As Vella said, it is just northeast from the bus stop. Along the way, you can also do one of the few monster dens you can full complete at this point if you go along the sides of the highway, though you may want to go back to Wind Town or Frankton a few times to heal, since at this point you may be a little underleveled for it.
– Now that Vella is in the party, make sure to grab the Bass Drop ability from the mind dungeon ASAP, it is another pretty powerful aoe ability that can really help deal with some of the more nasty enemies coming up really well.
WIND TOWN
– Start with the Jock by the front of town. His Karta can easily be broken with Vella’s normal attacks, and once he is weakened, he will summon a few ads. Michael’s photoshoot is particularly effective here.
– Heal up by the sink near the shops to the far top left corner of the town between fights.
– After the Jock is the Unpaid Cashier by the 777 Lucky Mart. You can break her Karta with Vella, and then just beat her down until she is dead.
– Next, go to the playground to the southeast, and beat up the brown hair child by the benches. He doesn’t have much to him, just beat him up until he dead. Nothing fancy about him, but his bullets do pierce.
– Now time for the graveyard girl. She is the only one in the graveyard. She has two skull ads that can be a little annoying to deal with here. Photoshoot with Michael ASAP to get rid with them. She is weak to Alex’s element so from here keep him alive and just spam normal attacks.
– Drunkard time. Go around the edges and then to the left to the gated house. It is the fat guy tweaking out. This is the worst fight in the game in my opinion. ASAP get the Panda Barrier up. Keep Alex alive as much as you can and spam Gauze Bandages where necessary. He heals a small amount of health once you get him to 50% too. Not much you can do to speed up this fight, just keep up Panda Barrier where possible as he hits hard and by god does he have a lot of health.
– After beating the Drunkard you finally get the key to the Mancers. Head over to the gated house and you can enter through the front door.
– Once you are done with meeting Rory, he joins your party. Rory is a bit of a odd party member – Back before the I.V. update he was the weakest, but now has quite the interesting variety of support moves that make him quite useful in lot of these early to mid game sections and autoattacks if he gets hit, making him a bit more like a combination of a healer and a monk type character. I personally like using him over Michael, but Michael has powerful enough early game AOEs that make him always good for offense, so it is really up to you what you want to have in your party depending on the situation for now. As always, when you get the chance, to go to your Mind Dungeon to unlock new abilities for this new party member; In this case it will be the Give Karta ability for Rory, the only one able to be unlocked at the moment. Alsoau decide to not use him in your party, make sure to equip the Karta on one of your party members for that tiny bit of extra XP and defense.
– Follow Rory around Wind Town and pretend he is making any sense. From his house, he is going to go south to around the mobile homes, then keep going west to the tunnel. Speak with him there.
– The tour continues! Head up northeast to the pond where you fought the Wannabie Cop earlier. Discussion of metaphysics continues, and now time to go the next spot on our little tour. Follow Rory up to the 777 Mart and continue your chat. Then continue the chat by heading back to the tunnel.
SEWER DUNGEON
– There are six types of enemies here, Sewer Rats, Mermaids, Slime Girls, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OCs, and Crocodiles. Sewer Rats have no Karta and 35 health. Mermaids have 45 health and two The Deep Well Karta, meaning they will be pretty slow but are fairly tanky at this point. Slime Girls have only 6 health but 3 The Crooked Man Karta that all make them immune to piercing attacks and slightly increase their health. Poos have a single level 1 The Crooked Man Karta and 16 base health. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OCs are probably one of the most annoying enemies in the entire game with their ultra high speed stats, but don’t hit hard with no Karta and 30 HP, and I am not sure if I am insane or not but the longer a fight goes on with one of these guys the faster they seem to get. Finally, Crocodiles are simply just simple enemies that hit hard and have 20 health, nothing fancy.
– Keep in mind now that you have 4 party members that when one of your party members dies, who ever is not in your front row party will join in (ie, if Rory is in your back row and Michael dies, he will replace him after a turn.)
– From the front of the entrance of the dungeon there is a door to the left. In it there is a bathroom stall that random encounters in here for xp.
– Also as always keep in mind you can use save points to go to the Mind Dungeon to level up whenever you can.
– Head right from the entrance to the dungeon and enter the door. There is a fight against two Poos and one Mermaid in here. Once beaten, the chest in the room has a dungeon key.
– Head south and in this next room, climb the ladder. Vella will give you the Amp overworld ability, allowing you break rocks. Feel free to head back to the Mind Dungeon as a lot of it just got opened up now. Either way, break the rocks, and open the locked door with the key you got earlier.
– Break all half a dozen rocks that are your way to get through this next room. Who put these here!
– Save point in this next room. Use Dali to get the chest to your right for $20, then bomb the cracked wall.
– Climb the ladder, break the rock, then use Dali to get the chest to your left for a weapon upgrade for Vella, then go south to the next room.
– After the enemy encounter, use Dali to grab the chest for a Dungeon Key. Rast past the goop to the east to the next door.
– Another save point here. After the enemy encounter, use Dali to grab the dungeon chest for 5 Fountain Sodas, then head east pull the handle on sewage. Head out of this room and climb the ladder, then open the locked door.
– Past the hallway, there is an intersection of three paths. First, grab the chest for 5 Smoke Bombs. Heading up the ladder there is a door with three different colored locks, each colored to a different door below, some vending machines for extra healing if needed, and another save point. Miniboss rush time!
– Heading through the purple door on the far right, grab the chest for $20, then enter the door to the right. This is the first of three encounters against the Samurai Tortorises, who at the very least you only have to face one of at a time. This first one has three Karta, the Deep Well, The Poisoned Apple, and The Thief all at LVL 2, has 130 health, and most importantly an absolute banger of a boss theme. Make sure to save between fights.
– After defeating him, grab the Purple Key, then head out, heal then head through the Grey Door. Past the hallway, there are two chests you can grab with Dali, each with equipment. This next Tortoise has the same Karta with less health at 113. This one can be a little tricky though as they may replenish their Karta with all new ones. Grab the Silver Key, then head out and heal up again.
– In the green door on the far left; Break the rock, then face the next and final Tortoise. This one has the three LVL 2 Wine of Fortune Karta and has 93 health. This Tortoise seems to have an odd bit to his AI of just using all of his Kartas as attacks ASAP, doing good damage to your party but leaving his defenses wide open. He also hits like a truck, so be careful! Once defeated, grab the Green Key, head out, and heal for the last time.
– Save here! Going into this next bit, I personally just got to level 10. Use all three keys on the locked door, make sure you have Vella in the front row, then enter. Welcome to hell.
– This fight is tough. Going in my Party was Alex, Michael, Vella, with Rory in the backrow for this fight. The Golden Alpaca has three Karta at the start, a LVL 4 Torn Hat, LVL 4 Fattened Calf, and a LVL 4 Seamtress, along with just over 300 health at the start. Use your items liberally, and as soon you get hit with one of his powerful attacks, use an item like an Ambrosia to full heal and get max PP ASAP. After his first attack, he will summon two Soul Survivor ads, which can be dealt with either by using Vella’s Banish move or blinding the party with Michael and shooting them. Use Michael’s Blinding Flash on the Golden Alpaca ASAP, and then start taking down the Soul Survivors, as they hit pretty hard. Get up a Panda Barrier as well for the extra defense stalling. Use PP increasing items where possible with Michael/Rory and use the Vella and Alex attack the Golden Alpaca. Your whole strategy throughout this fight has to be to have one of your party members be designated as an item spammer and / or defensive ability user where possible, such as using Panda Barrier when it is down, or using PP increasing and Healing items where possible while the other two attack as much as possible. Any time items don’t have to be used, that third party member can be used for extra attack. I prefer having Michael in the front end here for his Blinding Flash ability (make sure to grab that from the Mind Dungeon before entering!) but Rory in front works pretty well because of his autoattacks as well. Just make sure to have Vella in front no matter what. You can also use Vella as a buffer and healer when the Soul Survivor ads are down, as long as you managed to grab those abilities from the Mind Dungeon first. Just play somewhat defensively and you’ll be fine. If there are any Soul Survivor ads remaining when the Golden Alpaca is defeated, they will disappear. Most annoying thing here is just how high his health his with how little damage you do at this point of the game.
– Appreciate Vella’s intense amount of patience she has with Alex here.
– Brief dream intermission.
REALITY BREAK
– Go through the green door. There are a few optional encounters here you can grab for extra xp along the way.
– There are a lot of annoying ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OC enemies throughout here. This is a fairly linear sequence, just head through the curving hallways. Once you get to an intersection of two doors, first head through the far door on the close door to the north.
Go through the jump pads, and behind the Golden Alpaca and the rocks is a chest with 30 pieces of Silver.
– Give the Silver to the bizarre looking man, then grab the VHS. Then head back out and to the door on the far left back on the intersection.
– There is an enemy encounter blocking a chest that gives you 2 Chicken Finger Platters. Going past that, there will be a chess board looking area. Head to the right, then talk to
Proto Fan, giving him the VHS. You can now sit on that chair behind where he was.
Head up the red stairs, and talk to the blue man, named The Fourth Entity. Then enter the water in the center of the area. This gives you a door that lets you exit this area.
– Alex is a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Talk to the robed Alexs one at a time as they present themselves.
CHAPTER 3: RELUCTANT APOLOGY TOUR
– Before heading out, open your chest to refill your items. Go downstairs and talk to your mother.
– Seems you need to get a job! First, talk to the robed Alexs again, in order. Don’t forget to grab more bandages from the first-aid kit in the kitchen as well before heading out.
– Go to the rocks by the construction zone in Frankton for a chest with 50 bucks and some smoke bombs. Next, start heading east and enter the arcade. Talk to Vella at the change counter.
– Go out and to the pizza shop to ask about a job. Then go out to burger joint to ask for a job. Head south to the camera shop and ask about a job. Seems that is enough job hunting for one day, time to head home and go to sleep.
– First, answer the phone! Then, go to sleep. Dream 3 time.
– Head downstairs and go to the kitchen. Speak with the Entity, then head upstairs to your room. Now, go back downstairs and to the kitchen. The door to the backyard is open now, go through it!
– Follow the Entity through the forest.
– Going into the Mountain Radio Tower, there is a save point, feel free to use it as there will be a couple of enemies up ahead with no party members but Alex to fight them. You can even test out the ever powerful combo of Fattened Calf, Seamtress and Sorrowful Maiden (In that order) while you are here to help speed things along.
– Since you are without party members for a bit, you are able to equip their Karta. Feel free to for the extra defense.
– Follow the Entity and make sure to pick up the chests along the way for some pretty good items and money.
– Only enemies here are some weak Bats and somewhat annoying to deal with Aliens. These enemies are all pretty weak.
– There is a Collectible Pog in the chest that requires Dali to grab.
– If you want to avoid encounters here, you can stun a lot of the enemies here with Dali, and the chests hitboxes are all slightly larger than they look, so they can be opened through walls.
– Keep following the Entity into the radio station hut.
– After that series of dramatic cutscenes, make sure to refill your items from your chest again.
– Leaving home, go the the house directly west of Alex’s, the dark blue one with a light blue car parked next to it and a large sign next to it.
– Next, try the red house southeast of here, the one with a doghouse up front.
– After meeting with Michael’s Mom, go to the Record Store on the far east side of Frankton, directly south of the Arcade.
– Once inside, speak with the cashier inside.
– Leave the Record Store, then go to the Arcade, speak with Vella at the change register.
– Leave the Arcade. Michael has rejoined your party. Make sure to reequip him with some Karta.
– Head over to the bus stop on the south west side of Frankton, then head over to West Town.
HELL HOUSE
– You have been cursed with a new Karta, the Tank Karta. This makes you move like old school horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
– The house layout here is the same as Alex’s, just it flips horizontally across a glowing line.
– Head up the stairs quickly! No time to be reading this guide, but at least the enemies won’t move while paused.
– The Gun will be on the red room half way through on the right side.
– Once you grab the gun, you get uncursed. No more tank controls! You start with six bullets, and to reload you have to grab the various ammo boxes throughout the area. Careful with your ammo.
– If you ever get caught by the Bad Brother balloons, you will be teleported to the beginning of the sequence. You lose some progress if you get caught, as your kill count will be reset to 0.
– Your goal now is to eliminate the Bad Brother balloons. There are 3 upstairs, and 3 downstairs.
– Once all Bad Brother balloons are eliminated, go to the downstairs kitchen, on the mirrored side. Meet with the person there.
– Go get the key by going up the stairs in the mirrored version of downstairs. There will be a large blue picture on the stair case as your way to tell.
– Boss fight, sort of, time. This large baby head will shoot out rockets while the Bad Brother balloons slowly float toward you. Shoot down the rockets by the head to damage it while avoiding the balloons. If one of the rockets hits one of the balloons near the head that works too. There is an ammo packet to the top left and bottom right corners of the room. Once it has been damaged four times, you can proceed by grabbing the Basement Key Karta then leaving by way of Iron Maiden.
– Speak with the person on the mirrored kitchen, then enter the basement (the glowing red door on the normal side of the house).
– Time to name more friends!!!
RECORD SHOP TOUR
– Head over to Rory’s house. Knock on the back door, then the front. Rory has (re)joined your party. Once again, be sure to reequip them with any Karta and the like.
– Head over to the record shop from here, and speak to the cashier.
– Seems that they don’t have the LP here either. Head out of Wind Town and go to the Bus Stop. Take a bus to the Strip Mall in the Middle of Nowhere.
– Once at the strip mall, head to the burger joint. After that cutscene is over, you can buy healing items from the guy up front for cheap. Nothing great here but nice to have this option.
– Head up to the Record Store, meet up with the cashier.
– No LP here either. Take a bus to their flagship store.
– Welcome to Flag Town. The Record Store in question is on the far east side of town. Speak with the cashier inside.
– Claudio and Chondra have now joined your party! Claudio is easily one of the strongest DPS units in the game, as he can later on get some really powerful AOE attacks and buffing skills. Chondra is a bit… Odder. Probably one of the weaker party members, she is a more supportive party member with a variety of healing and enemy debuffs. Pretty similar to Rory.
– Leave Flag Town once you are done exploring. You need to head south east from here on the overworld to Mt. Town.
– Head north east in Mt. Town, going up and around the houses along the way and past the hikers to get to the mountain.
– After the cutscene, interact with Alex.
– Head up the mountain and enter the Mountain Path. At the top of the path, Rory teaches you the Hair Whip ability, letting you cut down these odd tiki trees throughout the overworld.
