Welcome to Kowloon: 100% Achievement Guide and Walkthrough

Welcome to Kowloon is an atmospheric, graphically impressive horror game about a student who is about to move in to their new accommodation in Hong Kong’s Kowloon district.

This is a short game (roughly 30-60 minutes) so I recommend taking your time to appreciate the visuals and soak in the spooky ambience.

There is at least one missable achievement (maybe two if you don’t drink the tea you just made) so follow the spoiler free guide below to make sure you don’t miss out on that juicy 100%.

After you pull up in your car you will find yourself at the entrance to the building. You will get your first achievement here.

Hello Kowloon (Enter the city)

Walk down the corridor and admire the fancy graphics as you take a right and make your way to the end.

Interact with the wooden door at the end on the right and you will enter a hallway and find some stairs. Your inner monologue will tell you your new apartment is on the fourth floor.

Head up, taking note of your canine pal on the way, until you get to the fourth floor. Open the wooden door on the right and head to the end of the hallway to find the door to your new apartment.

Denied! As the note on the door says we have to head all the back down to the ground floor to find the key in storeroom.

Head down the stairs, go back outside and down the corridor a little way to the next wooden door on the left. Here you will find the storeroom and in the back room on the table opposite the bed is the key we need. Before heading out, make sure you pick up the blue and yellow bag of dog food from the chair. Our puppy pal will thank us!

Head back out and up the stairs. On the way, make sure to interact with the dog’s bowl to drop off the food you picked up from the storeroom to earn your next achievement.

Love for animals

Continue on to the fourth floor and through the door to the corridor with your room. With your acquired key, you will unlock the door and earn your next achievement.

Home sweet home (Find your new place to live)

Ahead and on the right is your room and your inner monologue will tell you to leave your things on the bed. Drop your pack on the bed and ignore the multitude of roaches streaming from underneath. Also ignore the other door for now that leads to a closet; it won’t open for you yet. Instead, your next impulse is for a cup of tea so head out of your room and take a right to the kitchen.

The kettle is to your right as you enter, so interact to boil it and then interact with the mug to finish making a delicious looking cup of milky tea. Interact with the mug again to earn your next achievement.

Tea party

Finish your tea and upon exiting the kitchen you’ll feel it’s time to go back to your room. The closet door in your room will now open and you’ll find a note that’s not ominous in the slightest.

As directed, head to the front door to find it locked. What a surprise! Head back and you might see another note poking from underneath the landlady’s door, which is opposite your room. Perhaps we should stop reading notes.

Check the kitchen and the balcony door at the end of the hallway to find there’s no way out and on your way back spy the landlady’s door is now open. Head inside and move through the red lighting (and other things) to the cupboard door at the back to find a key on the shelf.

Try the key on the lock on the front door to see that it doesn’t work and instead head back toward the kitchen. After you had ducked into your room, for obvious reasons, head back toward the storeroom near the front door, but be sure to take a look in the bathroom first. Finding nothing, head back out to the corridor.

Phew! You’ll awake back in your room and after a short time the door will pop open to let you out. Head to the now open balcony door and through the next door to pop your next achievement.

It’s cozy in here (Get into your neighbour’s apartment)

The first door out on the left leads to a room with another note, but there’s nothing else here. Instead, take note of the boarded up door at the end of the corridor and move to the left where we find another padlocked door.

Head back the way we came to find a newly opened door (which may have closed on you as you originally walked down) and inside the room is a key on the table. Make sure to have a look at the picture on the wall above the desk and be sure to spin it around for a piece of information for a puzzle.

Head back to our padlocked door and unlock it with the key. Head through for another picture and a flashlight on the table. Get what you need from both and follow the path to the next picture.

I bet that woke you up, so let’s keep moving forward down the path to find the next picture on the bed. In front of us is the padlock with the code and with four out of the five letters, the code should be easy to get. Decay

Move through the door to find a crowbar and then go back the way you came. Head back to the boarded-up door (next to the hanging clothes) and interact to remove the boards.

Go on to the next section. Follow the path to the end and around to the left and you’ll come to a long empty hallway. Follow this hallway to the end and then there’s an event. Gotta run indeed!

Run away from the chasing horror and just be aware that when you come to a T-junction the path to the left will be blocked so be ready to move right. If you get caught don’t worry, you can retry with retracing some steps.

When you do eventually outrun the threat, make sure to turn around to check it’s really gone and move toward the doorway to trigger your next achievement.

Escape

Get to your feet and your interior monologue will be happy to be back on the street. Follow the path until you come to a vending machine and a shutter for the exit chained shut. Turn back around and follow the path until you see a set of narrow stairs heading up.

You’ll find an elevator with a note that says the generator needs a lever and gasoline. Let’s find the lever first.

Head back down the stairs and at the junction go away from the vending machine and the exit and follow the path to find a note on the wall telling you to look under a rock. Turn left again to head outside and find the rock next to the see-saw. Move it to find another note telling us to look in the red refrigerator. Head back the way we came to where we found the first note and the fridge is ahead and inside we will find yet another a note directing us back to where swings were to look behind the big cloth.

It almost seems as if someone is playing with us, but back we go to pull down the cloth and find a shutter which opens to reveal a hidey hole.

Read the note and take the coin and head back to the vending machine by the exit, which takes our coin and vends us the handle for the generator. Video game logic!

With the handle safely in our possession, it’s time to find some gasoline. While facing the vending machine take the door on the left and find a table with yet another note. Go forward through the door and up the stairs, past the graffiti, into a room where you will exclaim you have found the gasoline. (It’s in the white plastic canisters on the floor, not red ones like I was expecting.)

With both handle and gas in hand, head all the way back to the elevator and generator and add both to be able to operate the elevator. Once your heart starts beating again, call the elevator and ride up to the roof.

Toward the stairs (Visit the roof)

Up on the roof head around the corner to claim your prize, a set of bolt cutters.

Cutters in hand, head all the back to the exit (via the elevator and narrow stairs) and interact with the shutters to cut your way to freedom.

Escape (Leaving the city)

All that’s left now is to navigate your way to safety, watch the ending movies and enjoy another fully completed game.
